Oh well...

I thought it took too long to get interesting. I think that Resident Evil Extinction has been the best of the series so far. Some of it is starting to seem a little far fetched. I know I'm splitting hairs but I find it hard to believe they flew a helicopter from Las Vegas to Alaska without refueling. I love the series and I'll definately buy it on Blu-Ray when it comes out. You know there's going to be another installment from the way this one ended. Guys, take your time and don't rush it out, a little waiting never killed anyone.

WORST SCIFI MOVIE OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok, this movie is undoubtedly one of the worst movies of all time...its pretty much equivalent to Dare Devil. It's so unbelievably bad that you dont feel disappointed but you will actually be amazed that you will finally come to an understanding that idiocracy exists....this movie is like watching the empire state building collapse while you are visiting time square.....PEOPLE ITS BAD......ITS SOO BADDDDDDD....even if you list all the negative adjectives they won't be able to describe this disaster.............so baddddd like right now I am so furious that I just wanna write 10 pages about how this movie is but im tired...I dont want to think about...........HORRIBLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

3D, the only little savior for this otherwise dud...

The beginning despite being "inspired" from Matrix promised a lot.Though all good things come to end but it should not be this quick. Themovie loses pace and viewers' interest as well. One does not expectacting skills in movie based on a game and in this you should notexpect a "script" either. Characters come in abruptly and have nodefined role in the movie. Jovovich does what she does best but nothingeven close to special or jaw-dropping. Miller & Larter are the biggestwaste. But can't blame the actors when they have no script to displaytheir talents. The few positives: 3D, background score and screenplay. Afterlife isone of the better 3D movies. Very well shot with appropriate cameraangles, the screenplay is as per the requirement and the backgroundscore when the action begins is impressive.Go watch only if you are Resident Evil fan or have nothing else to killtime.

Wow, this sucked

I am a big fan of the Resident Evil movies, but Afterlife was beyondboring, awful, predictable, & too much like the Matrix. I own the other3 films, so naturally I went out and bought Afterlife on DVD beforeseeing it. What a waste of money, even worse I can't return it. My wifeand I both watched it and both were extremely bored. Too bad, now whenthey do the last film (hopefully it will be the last film). I will rentit from Redbox for $1.00, before I would ever consider buying it. Youguys really messed up on this one!!!! Do it right or don't make amovie. Period. Even the actors in the film, weren't even good in themovie.

A decent entry into a decent series

So, eleven years after the original movie was released, we are on filmfour in the successful Resident Evil film franchise. But does thelatest entry succeed in being a great escape from reality into anotherzombie world or is it dead in the water? The good news is that yes, this film does do its job as in it is adecent foray into the Resident Evil world and, if you head into thisnot expecting a massively marinated plot with character development andhistory defining dialogue then you wont be disappointed. The film has a little bit more of a plot than the last entry in theseries, as it focuses on the idea of a sheltering "community" calledArcadia. But Arcadia isn't what it seems. The overall plot flows fairlyswiftly and the story is told in an interesting way. However, there area few little sub-plots that really do bring the film down a little. Claire Redfield's amnesia storyline is completely pointless in thisfilm and feels as though it was only implemented to give her somethingto do. Nothing comes from the fact that she has amnesia, after beingcaptured by Arcadia, apart from her locking her brother Chris in somekind of submission technique. It would have been far more interestingif she had not had the amnesia storyline and instead had to deal withthe revelation that he brother is alive when she thought he was dead.Amnesia is often a lazy plot device and unfortunately, that was thecase in this film also. The acting was pretty decent; the cast gave out charismaticperformances, especially considering the fact that there is noparticular character development. Boris Kodjoe in particular played avery likable Luther West. While this was Milla Jovovich's weakestperformance in the series, much down to her applying a huskier tone, she still shone as the lead heroine in the film. So all in all, a decent film which offers some great escapism. If youare the kind of person who wants to watch cinematic masterpieces, thenavoid this but if your into just watching something you don't have tothink too much about and want to just have a good time, then this filmis definitely recommended.

so sad...

I have loved the Resident Evil series, until now. We, the people who watched it tonight, decided that it felt like the chapter in the middle of a really really bad book. All it seemed to do was set the story up for another movie. So disappointed. If you must watch it, don't waste your money on IMAX. Regular 3D will do.

Avatar 3D: RE Afterlife 3D Blu Ray Review: Buy it

Yes, Paul W Anderson, the director of Resident Evil Afterlife 3D, used the same Fusion 3D camera set up as Avatar, evidenced by the film credits and 3D featurette on the 3D Blu Ray, which also plays standard 2D. The 3D as a result, looks excellent and better than most 3D films out there, excluding Imax's Studio Nature productions. From the opening to the end, everything pops out far greater than you might have seen. The rain in RE:A3D looks spectacular and the depth really shines as though you're "in the movie". This is what 3DHDTV was made for. If you miss this and own a 3DTV, your loss if you like action movies. The movie has elements of the Matrix's fight scenes and slow motion, with The Walking Dead's zombie infested city. The film covers Alaska, Tokyo and Los Angeles. The opening action scene is a highlight and really slick, packed with blazing machine guns and acrobatics. There's also a Axe man scene worth buying this disc for alone, and a cool but short end fight scene with RE5's Albert Wesker. The story is a basic "escape plan" movie, but in the RE style. This is the best one so far IMO.The featurettes are 47 minutes total, and informative, including cast interviews. There's also a screen in screen presentation, director commentary track, deleted and extended scenes and more. Overall, if you own or eventually plan to buy a 3DHDTV, buy this version for a few extra bucks, as it plays in regular 2D on regular HDTV's and players and looks great in 2D, but exceptional in 3D.Movie: 8/103D: 9/10Extras: 7/10

I'd say... Purchase it, just for the 3D effect

This review is from: Resident Evil: Afterlife [Blu-ray 3D] (Blu-ray) There was in my opinion, very good 3D effects throughout movie. The movie was pretty good too. I like a 3D movie to have as much (come out at you effects) as possible. Sometimes I don't pay real close attention to the plot... that's just me, If you say a movie is in 3D, I expect to see a lot of effects. This movie for sure has it. On some occassions it did'nt need the effects, but I still rather see more than hardly any. I'd say get it!!!

Matrix-Wannabe!

I can mention at least 10 similarities between thiz film and "Matrix"(1999)! Gun fighting Vs. a group of tactical team in a hallway, smashing into building window and firing back while it falls (with slowmotion too!), bullet time technique when the villain Albert Wesker isavoiding the bullet, and even the villain character (Wesker himself) isAgent Smith look-alike! (Including the way he talks and body language)and many more. Terrible rip-off! Thiz game adaptation is a sequel ofthree previous movies, chronologically are "Resident Evil" (2002),"Resident Evil: Apocalypse" (2004) and "Resident Evil: Extinction"(2007). Paul W. S. Anderson takes back his command as Director. In myobservation, Anderson is another "Michael Bay" type of mindless popcornDirector, who always delivers mind-blowing action with extra excessivesituation and seems fully unrealistic, just like what he had shownbefore in "Mortal Kombat" (1995), "AVP: Alien Vs. Predator" (2004) and"Death Race" (2008).The brainless storyline follows Alice (MillaJovovich) who continues to fight against Umbrella Corporation, which isnow turning the world into zombieland. Like the tagline on the postersays, "She's back and she's bringing a few of her friends", the movieis featuring all of the original characters of game version such asClaire Redfield (Ali Larter), Chris Redfield (Wentworth Miller) andJill Valentine (Sienna Guillory) although she only appears as a Cameoin the ending scene. There is no such a thing called characterdevelopment in thiz movie, everything is flat. It is 97 minutes with aseries of slow motion sequences! One thing is for sure, on the movielike thiz you even do not have to worry during the film, because themain character will never die in any circumstances. Just prepareyourself for another carousel ride! Visit My Blog on JONNY'S MOVEE : http://jonnyfendi.blogspot.com

Great job done this time

Resident Evil- Afterlife is full of action, horror and some thrillingscenes .The Axeman fight is really a fantastic experience to bewatched. I have watched this movie 4 times since its release. One firstday ,i watched it twice. Those dogs are really masterpiece and remindsthe game-play of RE5.Wesker is now a powerful and intelligent guy inmovie.I loved every action sequence of movie and hope i am going towatch it tomorrow again. If you love non stop action sequence andstunts,it is movie for you,do not go for finding a story or logic inmovie, just watch and enjoy it.One more thing i love is shotgun firewhich comes with a lot of coins.

I've been a fan of the games and movies since I was a kid

The first thing I would like to say is that I played the games when Iwas a kid and I saw the movie after playing the first and secondresident evil games. The movie starts out with a huge action fight scene taking place afterthe end of extinction. The beginning already draws you into a greatstart. Mila and ali (Alice and Claire) make a great team and you cantell that they get along great. The movie does lack a little bit in theplot area but that's kinda the point the story is exactly what yourseeing it's supposed to be like a video game so the plot is thin so youcan focus more on what's happening. another complaint is that Chrisdidn't seem like Chris he was awesome but he could have been anybodythough he was cool wentworth did a great job. The end fight scene withwesker was awesome taken from the fifth game replacing sheva withclair. The action was awesome wesker was really cool and he didn't comeoff to me like matrix rip off especially since he was really cool andthe guy from the matrix agent smith or whatever his name was isn'tcool. The movies are very enjoyable personal favorites and they justget better with each installment though the 3rd was cool but my leastfavorite. The actors were great the special effect awesome in 3D it's10 times better but seeing it just on my TV is still awesome. One thingthat I would like to point out is that if your watching it withexpectations that's it's realistic then you kinda an idiot becausezombie outbreaks won't happen and movies aren't supposed to berealistic otherwise they would be boring like life also what more of aplot should there have been that seems to be a common complaint but noone ever says what they wanted to see they just hate because it's thecool thing. You know why the characters are there because there tryingto fix things and survive a zombie apocalypse starting with bringingdown umbrella and finding survivors it's pretty straight forward. Thefirst resident evil stars with being thrown into a situation you don'treally understand and having to survive until at the end you find outwhat happened the plot of the movie is is just surviving. The secondone apocalypse is about the whole city getting infected and having tosurvive through it and get out before it gets cleansed, It also throwsyou into the middle of the second and third resident evil gamesintroducing characters and storyline from them. The second one alsobegins the umbrella storyline. The third extinction takes you throughthe whole world being infected and leaves you to watch as they try tosurvive though this one doesn't really have any plot. The fourthafterlife brings you to trying to take back the world starting withdestroying umbrella and uniting survivors. HOPEFULLY THE NEXT ONE WILLHAVE LOTS OF JILL VALENTINE.

Great 3D effects

This review is from: Resident Evil: Afterlife [Blu-ray 3D] (Blu-ray) After reading an internet review of different 3D movies currently available, I bought this movie because it had highly rated effects. The visuals are stunning and even more so with live actors vs animation. The only downside is the movie has almost too much violence and blood but aside from that, very good.

A review from a player of Resident Evil 4 and 5 games

This is my first movie review, so bare with me.As a movie, I can probably say that this was a very 'ok' movie, and is worth probably a good-not-solid 4.But, since this movie seems to primarily be based on Resident Evil 5 the video game, I was only hoping that they would add those nice touches from the game.I watched this on DVD, not in blu-ray, or at the movie theaters, so I didn't witness the 3D like everyone.I also don't have a 3D TV with 3D glasses for the blu-ray either, so that's probably also something that took away from the excitement. When I first rented this (for $1 from the Redbox) I was thinking: Yes! I get to see more of Albert Wesker! Yes! I get to see the Executioner Majini! Yes, Chris Redfield in the movie for the first time! Yes, yes, yes!But while I was watching the movie, and these characters started appearing, I was more saying no, no, no!! I'll explain. They have the characters appearance down to a T, but the actors they got to play them are more-than-off.I have a big problem with the people they cast to play Chris Redfield and Albert Wesker.Since I'm coming specifically from Resident Evil 5 (As I've never played the previous ones and don't really know how Chris or Wesker looked in their thinner days), I'm expecting the actor that plays Chris to be chiseled and probably a little better looking than who they got to play, which is one of the stars from the show Prison Break: Wentworth Miller ([...])Now, I started personally liking him as a PERSON, so I started to overlook that they got him to play the part, but it was still a back-thought saying "I'm settling with less by accepting him to play this part!" Wentworth is particularly skinny and thin when it comes to this character, even though he has Chris's voice (from Resident Evil 5) down packed, but it also doesn't look right for him to be talking like that. Chris talks a little overly-dramatic, or at least KIND of, and Wentworth did a great job at that, but it didn't look right for him to be talking like that, and also took away from the character and movie.Next, it's Albert Wesker. Again, coming from the game itself I was expecting the Albert Wesker they cast to be older and more mature.Personally, it doesn't look right for Wesker to be 'Young,' seeing him on Resident Evil 4, he actually was alot younger looking than 5, but I started liking his matureness on 5. But the person they have playing this character is: Shawn Roberts ([...]). Honestly, he started looking like a Mr.Smith (from Matrix) more than Wesker. Again, I started liking this actor as a person, therefor tried to overlook the character he was playing; but unlike Chris's actor, I just couldn't. Honestly, he is way too young to play this character, and his face is a little fat and it's just not kosher. Really, this was kind of a big deal breaker for me, seeing as Wesker is one of my favorite characters, yet they ruined him so deeply. As far as everyone else goes, I never played any of the previous Resident Evils before RE4, so I don't know many of the new characters they introduced, like Luther West (Played by Boris Kudjo), if he even IS a character from the video game series.I just knew Claire from her relationship between Chris (sister/brother). But other than that, I guess they have the right casting; I pretty much just look at the new characters they bring from the game, which I think they never execute properly at all, it's always something big off in regards to the actor playing the characters, even though they can't always be the perfect match, they still can find much better people to play these parts. But enough about the characters and actors. The movie itself isn't scary at ALL, much like Resident Evil 5, so they got THAT correct. It's barely even suspenseful. It's actually pretty boring and slow until the Executioner Majini comes in to play, but in my honest opinion, even that battle was done wrong. Knowing that the Executioner Majini would be in the movie, I was happy to see how well the fight looked against him and the protagonists; but really, for him to be an Executioner the whole battle (if you wanna go as far as to call it "a battle") surely wasn't executed right at all.I don't know if the infected in this movie are Majini or Zombies or what, but they do resemble Majini's how their mouths open up and the things come out, so I'll just call them as both. I liked the way they introduced the Executioner Majini, it was slightly suspenseful and it was like: uh oh! Here it comes! But when they actually fought it, it was cool and everything, but it just wasn't right. You have this big thing, yet it goes down like any other monster with a carefully aimed shot...They tried to shoot it and show that it 'doesn't go down easy,' even with a bullet-to-tha-brain But even that felt like non-sense after a little while.I know that 'bosses' in movies can't be THAT hard or have THAT long of a battle, as it might make the scene feel repetitive, but to have THAT short of a battle just made it seem like you got ripped off. Again, like I said, this is all because I'm coming from the game itself, to critique these things as just a movie-watcher with no knowledge of the game, then it was just another boss fight done well, I GUESS.But anyways, also, a problem I had with this is the fact that they call it a zombie movie, yet there really aren't that many zombies. It seems like they just show a giant horde of zombies on the other side of the barricades to make it seem like uh oh we have to fight all these zombies! But no, really, they only have 2 if not 3 zombie encounters the whole movie. And really, besides the Executioner Majini, they didn't have any new monsters or anything that would make you say "What's THAT?" The whole movie is basically filled with talking and walking, and while there might be enough action scenes, they aren't such a big impact that would make me say, this is too much action! Which is a bad thing, because none of the scenes were overwhelming, and in a good action movie, there has to be AT LEAST a FEW overwhelming things, to accompany the boring walking and talking scenes that come after it, but no, it was just 'ok' action. Really, I'm not saying that boring walking and talking is actually boring, because it was actually pretty ok, but still, for it to be so much of this, with less-than-stellar action, it kind of makes the whole movie kind of boring, but still good.Like the title says, this is a review from someone who played the games, and is disappointed with the way they implemented things, and is also disappointed with a few of the actors they cast to play such huge roles of Chris Redifield and Albert Wesker, a few of the main hearts of the series. And if I had to rate this movie specifically in ways of a Game-to-Movie transaction, then I would rate it probably a 2, because of the disappointment. But when it comes to a movie itself, I could probably give it a 4, but you have to understand that this IS a game adaptation, if not directly. But it does come from the video game series, and they should have better thought-out the casting a lot better, and added a little more action AND horror/suspense to it. I loved the first Resident Evil movie, because it was scary in the dank underground subway or wherever, but I hate the fact that people can say "Fear in daylight" and just expect it to be scary...No, there can't be scary movies or games in the daylight, not unless it's filled with deep suspense as well.It may seem like I'm reviewing a Resident Evil game right now, but I just can't help it because I'm a fan of the game(s) and I just wanted to get into some good Resident Evil action. I was hoping, really hoping, that this movie was bring back the scary-feeling that Resident Evil: Extinction, and to a lesser extent, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, was missing. The game elements they implemented into the movie, honestly took big chunks out of the movie itself, seeing as how much they, to me, failed in all aspects of the new things added into the movie. In the beginning of the movie you might be thinking: what? I hope the whole movie isn't like this. But it changes. So, watching this as just a movie-goer with no experience of the game, it might be really boring. I know that I gave this a 3, and possibly a 4, even though I'm talking rather harshly of the movie, but I guess at most it was a pretty alright movie; but like I said, the characters they inserted into this movie (mostly Chris and Wesker) failed in all aspects of the character, beside Wentworth's spot on voice. They can't put ANYone in a black leather coat, black shades, red eyes, and slicked-back hair and call them WESKER...No...no way. I give this a 3, and it's worth a watch. It may not be worth a buy though, if you're collecting these Resident Evil movies, then the most I would say is that it will just be part of the collection, most likely nothing else. This is the worst of all the other 3 Resident Evil movies for me. I hoped this helped.

Good film if your a fan - excellent 3D even if your not.

This review is from: Resident Evil: Afterlife [Blu-ray 3D] (Blu-ray) I enjoyed this movie a lot. I have every one of the Resident Evil films and decided to pick this one up in 3D.If you didn't like the other films than I really can't recommend this one. Nothing new here to change your mind about the series. If you've got a new 3D TV though, this film has some of the best 3D effects out there. You can definitely use this movie to show off your 3D home theater.

the_wolf_imdb 09 May 2012

Maybe best served in 3D, but I saw it in 2D

I'm really surprised that so many people evaluate this movie as Great. They probably do refer the 3D version of it - slow motion sequences andlots of nonsense and illogical action indicate it was designed solelyto impress in 3D. So basically this is meant to be a 3D Tech Demo.I saw the movie in 2D and was not impressed at all. The Resident Evilseries is not great, but first and third parts of the series are "goodenough" and "clever enough" to be enjoyed on a lazy afternoon. Thispart begins nowhere (actually the begin is the ending of the previouspart) and ends nowhere as well. The rest is slightly illogical way fromstart to end with some mostly irrelevant zombies and mess assembledfrom parts of better movies like Die Hard, Blade 2, Matrix, Pandorumand other favorite movies of the script writer. I think I saw even someparts of advertisements and music videos here and there. Is it enoughto mix different scenes to create a "great" movie today? The Saw movieseries was interconnected as well, but every part of it was reasonablestand alone story. There is no need to describe silliness of the movie in detail - it hasbeen done here multiple times. The problem I see is that the series isgradually changing from zombie apocalypse movie to something likeBourne series. The world may be in ashes with almost no survivors andno solution in sight, but Umbrella with its unlimited resources, choppers filled with fresh soldiers, always perfectly clean labs andreally well dressed villains does not care. It is interested only incapturing Milla for some reason. It is not horror or apocalypse movieanymore.Except for completely artificial action scenes the movie is illogical, uninteresting and boring. It is probably weakest part of series - worsethat the second one and completely irrelevant. You may just skip thismovie to the next one and you will not even notice it.

time to change the writer/director. such a boring story

Or something. I don't know. Something needs to be done. That's two badResident Evil movies in a row. There's something about these last two Resident Evil movies that arelacking. There's this weird sense of bland, hollowness as you'rewatching it. Nothing about it engages you, it leaves you feeling like adistant spectator. I was bored out of my mind. There's just no feeling of purpose or goal. The characters are justwandering from scene to scene, with some vague sense of some nebulousdestination in the near future, but it just doesn't feel significant. The relationships between the characters are never fully explored, suchas between Chris and Claire Redfield, and you just generally don't careabout anything that's going on, you're just "watching." I like the inclusion of Michael Scofield, and his being "broken out ofprison." Nice nod to the Prison Break series, of which only the firsttwo seasons count, as everything after that are just abominations tomankind in its purest form.

The best since the first

By number 4 a series often is past it's prime and it's time to throw inthe towel. It seems like they're just not trying anymore and thedriving force is a big fat paycheck. 3-D has made a huge comeback as oflate and it looks like it won't be going anywhere anytime soon. When asequel uses the gimmick it does make one wonder if it's being donesimply to put butts in the seats or if it's to enhance an already goodmovie-going experience. People are divided on the 'Resident Evil'films, some love them and others despise them. The first sequel reallygot blasted and the previous one, 'Extinction,' was treated a littlemore kindly. So here we are at the fourth installment and it's in 3-D.Some will undoubtedly leave the theatre wanting their money back, butpersonally I was pretty darn happy when it was over.Pros: Solid performances all around, especially from Milla Jovovich andWenthworth Miller. Paul W.S. Anderson returned to the directors chairfor this outing and it's a good thing he did because he handles itbeautifully. An adrenaline pumping score that's even a bit haunting attimes. Amazing special and visual effects. Awesome production design.Moves at a good pace that is at times slow and others effortless. A fewmemorable and exciting action sequences. A bit of humor added to themix, mostly due to the great Kim Coates.Cons: Virtually no plot. Some disposable characters. Once again thingsare lifted from other movies.Final thoughts: There is still much life left in this series and itlooks like it's not over yet. It is a case of more style thansubstance, but is one of those cases where that works. The world doesneed films like this where you can just kick back and enjoy the ride. Aseries that hasn't gotten tired just yet.My rating: 4/5

The first great movie of the fall season!

I saw this movie today. It's just an entertaining as a wild roller coaster ride. It's packed with awesome 3D special effects, phenomenonal action scenes & two leading actresses who look very sexy kicking ass. This film combines the elements of the Alien franchise, George A. Romero's zombie franchise & the Matrix trilogy.Milla Jovovich is the best action heroine in action/horror movies since Sigourney Weaver in Alien. Paul W.S. Anderson is an amazing screenwriter & director who understands the action/horror genre and knows how give the audience what they want to see on the screen. If you are a big fan of action/horror films, played the Resident Evil video games or seen all the prior movies in the franchise, then you must see it asap.

leave your brain at home

attention. leave your brain at home. it will not be needed to watchthis movie. and WARNING if you attempt to bring it don't expect toleave the theatre feeling fulfilledIt bothers me that guns can fire endlessly. that is until thecharacters decide its time for a slow motion shot then they discard itand grab another from ?somewhere? It bothers me that alice supposely can fly from alaska to LA on onetank of fuel. Seriously whats with that? This movie has no plot and itwould have been much more entertaining to fill in the gap here. If youuse your brain you might have been able to surmise that she would haveneeded to land to refuel... landing at various airports trying to findfuel whilst defending from the undead would have been a more wellthought out and entertaining plot IMOIt bothers me that the Hollywood appear to burn straight for 4 years.what is it made of? If it has enough energy to burn for 4 yearsstraight then why aren't we running our cars on burning of Hollywoodsigns. this completely annoys me ... OH LETS HAVE A KEWL SCENE WHERESHE FLIES BY THE Hollywood SIGN AND ITS LIKE ITS BURNING AND ITS LIKE AREMINDER OR SOMETHING OF PAST SOCIETY AND HOW LIKE ITS LIKE OVER CAUSELIKE THE UNDEAD ARE HERE ! nevermind that after 4 years most if not ALLof the fires would be out of fuel.and most of all it bothers me that I watched an ~80 minute movie and Ifeel like absolutely nothing interesting happened. There isn't really aplot. the main character goes from one place to another. does onething. then shoots a bunch and its over. It was the same with the moviebefore this resident evil extinction. who agrees with me that boththese 80 minute movies could've been combined into one regular lengthmovie? Go watch quantum of solice or inception and you will feel likeyou've been around the globe twice and enjoyed every minute of it.well at least there is one fun thing to do while watching this movie.try and count the bullets before the characters reload. PS Paul in the next movie can you just cast KACEY BARNFIELD as the onlycharacter. don't worry about the plot or dialog just have her on screenthe entire time. god is she gorgeous

Love It! Love it!
