Paranormal Activity 2

An excellent prequel to Paranormal Activity. I loved the first movie and I loved the second! Paranormal Activity 2 keeps the audience focused and scared throughout, while the first (which is still very good) keeps the audience bored at times and not very scared, til the ending. Paranormal Activity has more characters and somewhat bigger budget (than the first) with low-budget actors. The sequel is good and keeps you entertained. And for the low price you can get it at, it's defiantly worth buying!

A spiritless cash in

Now while I'll admit that I'm not a huge theater goer, I must say that in all my life I've never heard a theater full of people unanimously start booing, shaking their heads, and saying they wanted their money back as the end credits started rolling. That was until I saw Paranormal Activity 2 last night. Let it be noted that this is the polar opposite reaction I witnessed last year after the first Paranormal Activity, but since the films are basically identical visually and stylistically, what went wrong this time around?Paranormal Activity 2 is actually a prequel of sorts that becomes interwoven with the characters and events of the first film as it goes on. Here we witness another tale of a family being tormented by the titular paranormal activity and their battle to overcome it. It seems as though the demon is after their newborn son as part of some unfulfilled deal from the family's past.Although this prequel is pretty much more of the same, the elements that worked so well in the first movie don't work at all here. Pacing is very slow, and most of the time it seems deliberately slow simply to elicit more effect out of the jump scares. This is the other issue. While the first movie had several creepy scenes that actually built upon the story, Paranormal Activity 2 relies entirely upon jump scares and abrupt, loud noises to get a rise out of the audience. During the vast majority of the movie there is nothing happening at all, apart from the actors trying to make the silly dialogue sound like normal every-day conversation, and it sounds very forced.Overall this was a total bomb, and I'm sure they'll makes millions off of it too. If you have to see a horror movie in theaters this Halloween, don't bother with this one.

A rare feeling of actual terror

This is my first time reviewing a movie and I apologize if my thoughtsare disorganized; The Paranormal Activity series is a really nice break from the "horror"genre that relies on blood and cheap scares to create a sense of"fear". Blood and gore movies just aren't scary, no matter how you cutit (i promise thats the last sh*tty pun i'll use). This movie is a great sequel to the first, believable characters, jumpmoments and a sense of dread throughout. It's sad that our generationof instant gratification can't appreciate the suspense that this movieforces on you. Yes, it takes a while for things to happen, but thatspart of the fun. Having seen the first one I found myself scanning thescreen every time it was dark.Yeah, there's a couple cheap "BOOM" moments, but they're executed verywell, and constitute my favorite moment in the movie (the kitchenexplosion). I found myself both terrified and excited waiting for theentity's next attack. And when it comes, don't expect to be "released"from the sense of fear, cause the problem is still there. The demon isstill *in the room with them*.TL,DR version:Pros: not a blood'n'gore movie, genuine fear, good acting, one of thescariest moments i've ever witnessed on a screen, ties in flawlesslywith PA1cons: really i guess my only complaint would be that they didn'tsubtitle the Spanish lady.

inferior sequel, but still jumpy and terrifying

"Paranormal Activity 2" certainly won't win any originality points—ituses the same payoff techniques the original perfected last year, andthe only things added to the sequel are louder noises, more people inthe haunted house (sequels have to have a higher body count), and afeisty dog that is the wise to the demons and their bullshit.Hell, part two even plays back the scary scenes from the original, andreintroduces those ill-fated characters to this one, putting upslightly helpful cue cards that tell us "this is 63 days before Micahis killed." So I guess this is a prequel… Why are the demons terrorizing this peaceful suburban household? Why doall the kitchen cabinets fly open in the middle of the day? We neverreally find out why the demon attacked Katie and Micah in the original, but this one attempts to explain it as a revenge plot: Katie andKristi's great-grandmother was wrapped up in some financial problem andgot out of it by making a deal with a demon for wealth in exchange forthe first born son. As it turns out, the first son since then is littleHunter, Kristi's newborn son. Strange sounds come from Hunter'sroom—and the parents, Kristi and Dan, occasionally check up on Hunterand then leave Hunter alone again…only for the noises to continue.Rinse and repeat. The premise this time is more forced than the simplistic first part(which, for my money, was fantastic and inventive and glued theaudience to their seat). Which isn't to say part two isn't terrifying;when we get video of each room overnight, I was on high alert forshadows that didn't belong. The climax is more intense and jumpy thanthe original, if incoherent at times (there's a scene in a basementwhere the house is shaking and Hunter is in danger and Kristi ispossessed and…well, good luck trying to decipher what's going on inthat scene)."Paranormal Activity 2" is a quick cash-in to the unexpected success oflast year's $100 million+ no budget thriller—and it looks and feelsinferior: it may take a hold of the audience in the last half hour, yetI didn't feel connected to any of the characters like I did last time.Still, it does an admirable job plotting before the events of the firstfilm, and the filmmakers haven't lost sight of the use of an activeimagination. Like the result of seeing the first on a chilly lateOctober night, sleep may not sound like such a good idea—at least notwithout a nightlight and the television left on.Rating: *** out of ****

Creepy, but the end sucks

Paranormal Activity 2 was creepy and about as well made as the first film, that is until the ending.... The couple from the first film thrown into the movie with Katie being the sister of the mother of part 2, didn't really work for me. Katie being in this one is just convenient for the lazy ending that doesn't give us anything original. It's a shame too, since a lot of this sequel is actually better than the first film.

Different and realistic - loved it, but then again, im a strictly-horror fan

Hi allI watched this film yesterday, it came out on Friday in SA. I went to the very first 10h00 Sunday morning show as i couldnt wait for evening time.I had seen the first one and, naturally, i just had to watch the second follow up, without too much thinking.I enjoyed it of course, i found it scarier than the first one..towards the middle of the film, there is a hectic fright scene and from then afterward the ball starts rolling...it gets freakier and keeps you jumping. It was awesome.I am a sucker for these thrills and jumping out my seat just seems to increase my serotonin levels! Anyway.Back to the film. I need to mention this fact though - the producers must have made a killing on this franchise - there are no more than 7 actors all in all in this movie (if i count the priest in the first one), not much camera work needed, and if the sound guy doesnt pitch up on set one day - cool, it will just add to the intended feel for the movie. All good, all i will say is well done team.I particularly enjoyed the awkward 'realisism' in this particular movie - that they must have done their research on demonology, as is the usual well-known case of main-stream films in this genre - kids never getting hurt or murdered, its always the grandpa or the nanny to get butchered, etc. The truth is that demons will not differentiate between an adult man or a child, they get what they want. The scene where the little kid gets 'grabbed' by the demon made my hair rise at the cinema and my skin crawl. Excellent. Unbelievable special effect there. Well done thats a 10 / out of a 10-er.For real horror fanatics only.I enjoyed the ending, it tied up nicely with the first one, there is a door open for perhaps a third one as well. All in all, what else can i say..i thoroughly enjoyed the film. Its my cup of tea after all :-)I would like to just point out something that seems to boggle my mind. It is way too easy to obtain Ouija boards these days and way too easy to summon a demon, why - just ask some kids at school and they will tell you of a few 'games' on how to summon forces from the other world. It doesnt help producers showing this actual action being done in the movie.I totally agree with films and entertainment, but scenes like this - where forces are summoned might just pop an dangerous idea into a kid's mind.Age restrictions dont help, besides this isnt about age.All im saying is - dont do anything of the kind at home. Dont even think about it. Demons are real. Be warned and google some facts, about the danger and total life changing experience you might have should you mangle with these things poorly known to man.I am all for entertainment and as ive said i am a horror film fanatic, all i watch is horror. I dont do dumb romance / comedy / laughable action. I do sometimes do cheesy slasher if theres nothing out there at the current moment and if i am desperate!Enjoy the movie - in my opinion its better than the first. The 'paws' of the demon in the first one ruined it for me. For crying out loud - they dont have hooves or paws! They hardly have a shell or a body. The invisibility of the demon in this movie was portrayed well, was great. Adds to the creepy feel. Scientifically correct as well i guess. The way it should be.Kids - do not think it is 'awesome' to have a haunting, as Aly from the film thought at first.Enjoy - great movie. Different.El.

(2.5 STARS) Prequel That Looks More Like a Remake

"Paranormal Activity 2" is a prequel to the horror film released in 2009. The new chapter, which takes place several months before the events described in the first entry, revolves around Kristi Rey (Sprague Grayden), sister of the original's heroine Katie (Katie Featherston), and Kristi's family - Daniel (Brian Boland), his teenage daughter Ali (Molly Ephraim) and a baby named Hunter. The basic storyline is almost the same as the first installment. In a sense this is not surprising. Perhaps the producers thought (rightly) that they had to turn the previous year's surprise hit into a franchise quickly. So in "PA2" scares sometimes look recycled, using unexpected loud sound and moving objects. Despite the new characters (and a dog), sometimes I felt as if watching a remake, not a prequel, of the earlier film. The story of "Paranormal Activity 2" (especially its introductory part) unfolds at a faster speed. With footage ostensibly shot by the family's camcorder and several surveillance cameras installed in the house, the film tries to retain the same visual touch as the first one, but the tighter editing and more polished camerawork (and special effects) suggest a bigger budget and professional skills behind the supernatural phenomena. That is not bad thing. "Paranormal Activity 2" delivers what it promises to deliver. Only that novelty is gone.

really silly daft film not scary one bit

I went to the cinema hoping to some some intense tension out of what issaid to be the scariest film ever made well was I wrong or was I wrong.this has to be the silliest most childish not scary not worth whilebiggest load of crap ever. this film should have been tossed on thescrap pile with the rest of the rubbish. the acting is below zero ithas no special effects poorest graphics ever in a film. the most stupidthing about this was when the baby floating out of his bed I mean justhow can that be at all one bit scary it made my jaw drop for all thewrong reasons. this is the sort of film that would make a baby laughthe whole film is a complete joke and a waste of money so don't botherchucking your savings down the drain go and see something that isactually scary.

Paranormal Activity 2 (3.5 Stars)

In an age where horror films are defined by teenagers whose I.Q. rangesbetween "Dumbass" and "Hopeless", Oren Peli's "Paranormal Activity"brought needed hope not only to exhausted horror movies, but also tothe slashers that occupy them. Man. Freddy, Jason, and Myers must betired from hacking college students all the time.If you liked the original, chances are you'll also like "ParanormalActivity 2". They are similar in structure: the slow beginning, thecreepy middle, and the chilling end. Both movies take place within ahome, and both homes are inhabited by a demon. This is scary. A home issaid to be a place of rest and refuge. Once you explore the possibilitythat an evil demon might be trying out all the furniture as it plots tomurder your family, you're in trouble. Anyone who doesn't get scared bythat situation is either really really brave or a Satanist.Read more here:http://localmoviereview.com/paranormal-activity-2-movie- review/

A prequel/lead-in that makes the original into an even better film.

Paranormal Activity 2 is sort of a prequel/tie in to the huge hit thatwas Paranormal Activity. In the prequel, a family's house is tamperedwith one evening. As a way to fight their fears, the father has asecurity system installed to prevent the incident from ever happeningagain. The family soon learns that maybe their house was not brokeninto but is rather haunted by something that they can't see. Now, thefamily must try to unravel the events that continue to occur and hopethat they can stop it from happening again. When I originally saw the trailer for Paranormal Activity 2, I wasupset. All I could think was why the heck are they doing a sequel tothat film? I am one of those people who found the original to be veryoverrated. That might be because I saw the film so late in the game butto me it wasn't scary and extremely boring. I definitely was not on theband wagon when I saw the trailer for the sequel. Avoiding the film inthe theaters, I decided to pick up the sequel when I was out anddecided to sit down last night and watch it.Paranormal Activity 2 actually serves as a companion piece instead of adirect lead in or prequel to the original film. You SHOULD watch theoriginal before you see this one. There are a lot of connectionsbetween the two and the end result kind of plays out like the "Saw"films. This sequel or say prequel actually for the first time makes theoriginal feel like a better film. Its hard to explain but I will try.The original had very little story and not much background. This filmhas more story and is better explained. Also, Activity 2, probably, because of its bigger budget looks better and feels more realistic forsome reason. I thought that was odd since the original was actuallyfilmed for next to nothing and had a smaller cast in a real house butsomething about the house in this film made it feel more authentic towatch. When you talk about a film flowing, its all about its pace and how thefilm shapes its story. This movie flows well. It starts off ratherrough and I was well on my way to start mocking it within the first 10minutes. However, when the film hits the 25 to 30 minute mark, itbecomes a lot better and actually keeps you on the edge of your seat insuspense. I think the action scenes are much more scary in this filmand I actually jumped a few times here and there. I think that bringingin elements like a dog and baby added to the creepiness of the film. Weall have seen films with couples being haunted by things but when ababy and a dog are, well that's something new.I realize that Oren Peli, who wrote and directed the original, wastrying to pull a Blair Witch Project on its audience. Nowadays, afterfilms like that and the rise of amazing reality television (why oh whydoes it exist), I know I can't really believe that a film like this istrue. I think both films try to be believable and work for the mostpart. If I wasn't a victim to bad reality television, I would haveprobably believed the first film was real that is until I saw that thefilmmaker released multiple alternate endings. The scares of this filmcome from the unknown. There is something just simply chilling aboutthe paranormal. It's creepiness comes from that idea alone and itworks.I do realize that many have said that this film is poorly acted and Ihave to agree with that mark but these are suppose to be real people soit fits the tone of the film. I can't say I liked any of the charactersin the film, while I actually didn't mind Katie and Micah in theoriginal. In that case, the first film is better for having morelikable characters. The characters here were very whinny and actuallyunlikable from the start. They also seemed a bit more silly than thosein the original. In the end, Paranormal Activity 2 does two things that rarely occurs infilm. First, its better than the original and the second is that itactually made me like the original film. I know, I am shocked myself. After watching the sequel, I immediately put the original on andwatched it from start to finish. The storyline in the sequel helpedconnect some of those weird what the hell? moments that occurred in theoriginal. It also helped make the original film feel scarier. I thinkthat's a rare feat for movies like this. I admire films that actuallycreate suspense from nothing. It takes a skilled writer or writers tocreate a story that is scary without actually seeing something. I can'tbelieve I am going to say this but I am now a fan of ParanormalActivity 1 & 2 and am excited to see the third film. I just hope thateveryone involved don't overstay their welcome and keep these goinglike every other successful horror series. They should just stop withthe trilogy and not try to push their luck.MovieManMenzel's final rating for Paranormal Activity 2 is a solid 7out of 10.

A Step-Down for a Few Reasons, but "Paranormal Activity 2" Still Delivers the Thrills Overall, and is a Very Fun Ride...

I'm a bit torn. I feel as though my score of 6 out of 10 may bemisleading. For me, a 6 out of 10 film is generally a film I reallyenjoyed, but felt was a bit too basic, or had some major flaws. Andthat's what I thought about "Paranormal Activity 2." I really, honestlyenjoyed it. It's a lot of fun to watch, and is quite scary at times.I've even watched it repeatedly. It had a lot of creepy moments, it hadsome really funny humor, and it did something a little different withthe whole "found footage" genre. But all of that being said, there weresome major problems with it, hence, I had to take off a few points.Looking back at a lot of my IMDb reviews, I always wish I could changethem. I won't, just because I want to stand by my original reviews, butI will say that I gave the original "Paranormal Activity" a 7 out of10, but in retrospect, I'd bump it up to a 9. I reviewed it based on myexperience seeing it in an empty theater with my father, who doesn'tlike horror films, so I was viewing it in the context of a safeenvironment with someone who was sort-of a buzz-kill, whereas I shouldhave reviewed it on my home-viewing experience. When I recentlyre-watched it, I fell in love with it in a way I hadn't before, becausethe at-home viewing experience in the dark by myself helpedtremendously. I was able to pick up on details I had missed before, andlet myself be more "immersed" by it, and I decided that it was one ofmy favorite recent horror films. So, officially, I am saying that thefirst film is a 9 out of 10 for me. Hence I excitedly watched this onNetFlix and plan on buying the third film.I just wanted to tell you about my views on the first film to give thisone something to compare to."Paranormal Activity 2" begins a little over a year before the originalfilm. We follow Kristi (sister of the Katie character from her firstfilm), her husband Daniel, her step-daughter Ali, and their newbornbaby Hunter. We learn about the recent birth of Hunter and get to knowthe family a bit, before we cut to August, 2006, two months before theoriginal film. Hunter is now one year old, the family have ahouse-sitter/nanny named Martine, and things are great. However, one day, they return home and find that their house has beenransacked by apparent vandals- every room has been torn apart exceptfor Hunter's. The family has security cameras installed to help monitorand prevent this from happening again, which is where most of our"found footage" comes from. (That, and the camcorder that Daniel andAli carry around)This is the set up for the film. Like the original, the film elapsesover several weeks, and things begin slowly. At first, it's just smallthings- tapping on the windows or the pool-filter being removed fromthe pool during the nighttime. Little things that could have earthlyexplanations. But, over the days, the activity becomes more blatant andmore violent, and the stakes are raised when Ali's research suggeststhat this presence may be after Hunter. The film is quite startling at times. The horror works well to a point. The eerie sounds in particular are fantastic, and a few "jump" momentsare terrifying. However, here's where one of the big problems crops up-the activity is too "harsh" for a prequel. The first film was verysubtle- it wasn't until the last few days that anything trulyhorrifying occurred. However, in this film, the activity seems to rampup too quickly. Doors explode open, people are pulled through the air, electricity is affected- it all happens much quicker than in the firstfilm. It just felt like a slight betrayal to the rules set by the firstfilm. It should have been more subtle. The acting is generally good. But the problem is the characters- theyare a bit more clichéd this time. It all feels more manufactured and"movie-like", as opposed to the real-life feeling of the first film. Also troubling is the final act of the film, which has a lot to do withthe original movie- again, it felt like a slight betrayal, because theychange the rules and how we interpret the first film. Finally, some of the activity felt too much like special effects, whichtook away from the film. But all of that being said, it was still a highly enjoyable film, andworked for the most part as a decent follow-up/prequel. Like I said, this is one of those cases where the film is just too much fun tocondemn it for its flaws.I'm giving "Paranormal Activity 2" a 6 out of 10. It's flawed, but youwill forgive the flaws for the frightful good time it provides. Now offto the third film!

WTF?? Total crap heap. 2 hours of my life I'll never get back.

My God, I didn't even pay to see this movie and I want my money back!Absolute crap from concept to execution. This movie sucks more than thepool-vac, which incidentally gets my vote for most natural acting (notto mention more screen time than anyone else.) Seriously, anyoneassociated with this festering sore of a movie should be ashamed. It'sa real Alan Smithee production. Its only hope (which sadly willprobably bear fruit) is if enough people are so suckered into it thatthey'll rave to their friends and get them suckered in too, a la BlairWitch Project. PA2 is worse than BWP. It's worse than a weekend inBhopal. What a stupid, stupid concept. How this ever got green-lightedI'll NEVER know. Rated far, far less than zero.

Despite not entirely living up to the original, Paranormal Activity 2 is still another grueling excerise in subtle, intimate terror

Happening in the months leading up to its hit 2009 predecessor,Paranormal Activity 2 follows Katie's sister and her family as theyexperience a series of similar paranormal phenomenon in their home.Determined to get to the bottom of the increasingly threateningoccurrences, they decide to set up a net of security cameras in andaround the house to see what really goes bump in the night. Alas theterror only escalates, pushing each of them to their breaking points asthey confront a ruthless being that feeds off their very woe and angst, that sickeningly wallows in their fear until revealing its final masterplan...Despite arguably cloning original's formula, this is still a largelyenjoyable and chilling sequel. Although if you weren't a fan of theoriginal's slow-burning and brooding terror, I find it hard to see youappreciating this. It stays true to the original's creed, taking timeto develop characters and subtle tension as it slowly creates anincreasingly suffocating repertoire of intimate horror. The 'evil'remains invisible and shrouded in eerie shadows for the most part, playing at the terror your imagination can evoke as opposed to visceralscares. The final twenty minutes is essentially a resonation of all theprogressive tension built up, hitting hard with almost unbearablesuspense and thrilling scare sequences that bring the film homeintensely right until the very last disturbingly grim frame. But with all that being said, I can't say it totally measures up to theoriginal's level of brilliance. The security camera shots were a littlecorny and didn't have the effectiveness of the infamous darkenedbedroom shot in the original. I also found the acting to beconsiderably weaker and the pacing a tad off the potency of theoriginal.Nevertheless, the film captures the essence of brooding, intimatehorror perfectly; which is most vital.I won't spoil anything too major, but I will say it ties in with theoriginal's story with surprising competence. Katie plays a major role, whilst Micah also makes a couple of appearances. Oh, and it mostdefinitely sets up for another sequel. Paramount are obviously pushinghard to make this the next big horror franchise.Overall, I was yet again sufficiently creeped out and satisfied by thissecond journey into the 'Paranormal Activity' universe. The characterswere detailed and layered as they faced interesting personal demons aswell the evil that haunted them, the atmosphere was great as it focusedpredominantly on stark and foreboding imagery, and best of all, itwasn't a lame Hollywoodization of good non mainstream material - Itkept absolutely true to the tone of Oren Peli's subtle yet profoundmasterpiece, as well as adding interesting twists and turns to theintriguing story.8/10. If you loved and/or were scared by the previous installment, check this bad boy out. It won't disappoint.

Stale Take on a Worn Out Genre

imepass. Paranormal Activity 2 is good for 47 mins of that and nothingelse. Esp if you (like me) are tired of all the 'new-age', 'differentdimestore camera movies like Bluffmaster etc., and just want a break. This is an low rent whodunit that fails to work even though thesuspense is pretty nonexistent, because the motives are unclear, andtwists and turns are put in at all the wrong intervals. The story starts off. On the surface, everything seems to be rosy. Butsomething about his unresolved past keeps gnawing at our heroes. Willthey be able to resolve their marital issues? What will be the result? That's basically what Paranormal Activity 2 is all about.Stories like this have been attempted before in Hindi cinema, albeitsporadically. So most of the content remains somewhat predictable, atleast until the last 2 minutes. Performances are good all around. KatieFeatherston has got a great voice and she uses it to good effect. Thisis one actor that seems to have all the right tools, but somehow thatstar appeal is missing. She looks frumpy and acts reasonably well, although (spoiler) toward the end her role gets to be somewhat of arepeat of Aitraaz. Gabriel Liotta is likable in her brief appearance,as is the dependable Micah Sloat. Tod Williams 's (The Adventures ofSebastian Cole) direction is tight, and the dialogues are out of reallife. No wonder Williams held maximum number of Filmfare awards andheld undisputed record for many decades. All in all, watch this on DVD with low expectations, and you'll befine.

Amazing! Captures the first one completely!!!

This second was the icing one the cake! Not only did the director do a good job of making you not only think something other then what actually happen was the problem, but also prolong the suspense (i think on purpose) the increase the stock horror when the scary stuff came around! I also enjoyed the fact that not only did events happen in the day but also in the night. I have yet to buy the DVD/Blu ray but im about to now after seeing it in theaters and again from the Red Box lol! One main thing i love about this movie, unlike other horrors that have bloody overly dramatic violence, this movie truly displaced Dark Romanticism, which is something you really don't see any more these days in a lot of stories. I give this movie a A+

Just as good as the original Paranormal

Came back form Paranormal Activity 2. At first I didn't like it so muchbut by the end they put enough jump scares and terrifying build upmoments to finally prove i'm just a coward. The original scared me andI was thinking to myself for the sequel "i'm gonna get scared but i'llcontrol myself". Nope. I was fidgety the entire time but I was bymyself like last time, everyone else had someone to latch on to. Andsomeone brought a baby there too, what were they thinking? Poor thingwas crying during the loud jump scare moments.I think the original was better overall. It had a better cast andbetter build up. The acting, ironically, was pretty bad sometimes inthis one. Considering they had a supposedly more professional cast thistime I expected better. Plus the two person dynamic in the originalmade it more involving. With this bigger cast, you jump from severalpoints of view and don't see them get more and more terrified overtime. Most of the time its just jump scares, a couple were actually sostupid they were funny (everyone in the theater laughed). Like you cantell where things were being picked up by strings and whatnot, something the original was more clever to hide. The only time anyonelaughed in the original was when that Micka guy, or whatever his nameis, cracked a joke. The ending was good on paper, and expected, but really cheesy on theexecution. I mean seriously, look it up sometime. They could've done itMUCH better considering the budget. Also the paranormal scenes wereshown with the security monitor system most of the time and they cut toA lot to scenes where NOTHING happens at all. I thought "well, OK,maybe in the end SOMETHING will come out of it" but it never did. Atleast in this theatrical cut. Hopefully they did film scenes wherecreepy stuff was happening and restore them/have them in the deletescenes on the DVD release.Despite my complaints, I had a fun time overall. I got just as scaredas I did last time and I think it was worth the money despite what anyself proclaimed big balled macho guys say. If you liked the original orthis genre, i'd definitely recommend it.

Paranormal Activity 2 (2010)

To some this will be a slow and boring film, with a few choice moments. It is mostly tension. It forces you to bring the fear yourself. Long, wide shots of large rooms, make sure you are searching each frame forsomething out of place or abnormal. Your mind may even play tricks onyou at times. In contrast to the first film, this was a little better. The main problem I had with the original was the fact that one of theprotagonists was completely unlikable. Here we have a close family, andfor the most part, people don't act THAT stupid. The real star is thedog, coming off as a protective guardian, and honestly able to actscared and brave almost at the same time. There are some brilliantsections, but it never goes far enough. A third film seems to be on itsway, but will it run out of steam?

ks-6752 03 April 2012

Not Worth Paying For.

The film starts with a close nit family, a new born baby and of coursethe house pet, the family suffers a break-in and install cameras incase it happens again. I have to admit that I was getting pretty intoit at first and then Katie from the first movie turned up at the house.Bad move. At that point, the whole audience started muttering andbecame restless. Here was an audience, who expected the new film to bewith a new family, to have new scares and to have a whole newperception on watching horror films alone. Did we get that? No. Were wepromised it? Yes. After paying an extortionate £6.50, I at leastexpected to find myself hiding behind my coat for half of the film, orsomething along those lines. I understand that with a $5m budget youcan't afford to have special effects running through the film, but itlooks like a majority of that money was spent on both the motorisedflying baby and about 100 meters of fine string to open all the doorsin the kitchen at once. However my review can't be said for the othermembers in the audience. Countless times was my concentration divertedto the amount of people leaving the cinema screen, perhaps they weretoo scared? Or maybe just like me, simply bored. Not worth the price, not worth 2 hours of my life, not worth using your hands to shield yourview of the screen. An absolute joke.

Solid yet forgettable

Approach this sequel to last year's mega-hit as you would a hauntedhouse at the fairground; expect to scream a lot, laugh at yourself forit then move on and forget it until next year. If you do, you'll have ablast. The story's the same; family set up security cameras after break-in,only to discover burglars are the least of their worries. There's aneat tie-in to the events of the first movie (this is a prequel) andthe spooks have a bigger cast to mess with – including a toddler and adog (both used to excellent effect). There's lots to criticize, of course, from the soap-opera performanceof the Father through to the laughably clichéd 'hired help' (LatinAmerican and therefore does nothing but waft incense, clutch her rosarybeads and mumble to herself in Spanish. As Latinas do).But as a crowd-baiting horror experience it rarely puts a foot wrongand, let's be honest, this is why we're here. The best elements of thefirst movie are played on exceptionally well, with endless silences andlong static shots of nothing kicking the suspense up to oftenunbearable levels. Sometimes there's a 'big jump' payoff, sometimesthere isn't but the fun, of course, is in the drawn-out anticipation. The 'security camera' angle adds a different, unnerving narrative feeland the ratio of actual 'paranormal activity' compared to the firstmovie is about 5:1 – with two big scares alone validating yourticket-spend. Slick, quick and mindless and all the better for it.

Decent/kinda good sequal, first is better

Every movie company knows that when they make a movie and it sells well, you have to make a sequal. Unfortunatly, all these money-grabbing sequals are never as good as the originals.I was a fan of the first one. This one is about a family with a mom, dad, Nanny, Teenage daughter, baby, and a german shepard. I did not say thier names, because I never caught on to them in the movie. You never feel as connected to the characers at all, I don't even know thier names. Because of this you don't forgive the slow start to the paranormal activity happenings. It seems to start slower because the people's lives just aren't as interesting as the first and there isn't as much information about them either.By the way, this time it's told through handheld camera and security cameras. The movie does provide some great demon moments later, though. More than the first. And once it gets to that point it's alot better than the first half. As usual, I'm searching all over my TV screen, so I don't miss anything. I say these things because it's not that bad of a movie. The coolest part is that it's connected to Micah and Katie from the first. They do appear here and are these people's relatives. Not, to spoil anything, the awesome connection to the fist is amazing, and why I would suggest renting this if you saw the first.I have a feeling my review was a little too harsh on this one, because I would highly reccomend renting it if you liked the first. HIGHLY, because of that connection with it, it adds to the story of the first. But I wouldn't buy it because I don't think you're going to watch it over and over.
