Due Date is a comedy directed by Todd Phillips. Firstly, no I haven'tseen Planes, Trains and Automobiles so I am basing this film on its ownmerit. The plot tells of two guys who, after a series of unfortunate eventshave to endure a road trip together. We begin when are twoprotagonists- Peter Highman (Downey) and Ethan Tremblay (Galifianakis)meet or rather 'bash' into each other outside Atlanta Airport. Peter isa methodical, precise architect with a schedule to meet. Ethan is amessy, bumbling no-so-grown-up grown up, who is at the airport to tryand fulfil his dream of being an actor. Ethan is lucky guy butpossesses the unfortunate ability to jinx the people he comes intocontact with. It therefore leads to Ethan indirectly butcomprehensively, destroying Peter's trip by getting them both chuckedoff the flight and when Peter loses his wallet after being banned fromflying he dejectedly realises he has no other alternative but to joinEthan for a road trip!Downey Jr's character seems to come so easily to him and its nosurprise. It's Downey's signature sarcasm and distinctive slow burnthat make the movie. The ability to switch his temperament instantly ismarvellous and delivers effortlessly. Galifianakis, in a perm thatmakes for not comic gold but rather silver and they both play off eachother well, sharing banter that supplies amusement throughout. Im notsure if I felt any connection for Ethan Tremblay as his character is soinept (its fun but provides little character connection for theaudience). The soundtrack blends well with the film and provides good music forthe duration. The tempo of the film never drops because of theentertainment provided throughout, having said that, the problem is youwont miss anything from laughing to hard or to long because the filmseems to stay in 2nd gear with only a couple of very humorous bits butno real 'roll on the floor laughing' moments. This is one of my onlyhang ups about the Due Date, considering the film before it TheHangover (by the same director) was such a huge success, itsdisappointing that the most isn't being made of a good cast. The storywas there, the script could have been better- it just feels like theproduction was a bit lazy considering the actors performed highly. Imnot saying Due Date is a bad film by any means, it is just after a bitof research, you get the feeling it may have been seen or used as a'filler' for the directing team whilst they worked on a sequel to TheHangover, which is a shame as Due Date could have stood next to TheHangover rather than in the shadows. Overall Due Date is one of the better comedies produced in recenttimes, with good acting and sufficient entertainment, but if yourexpecting a comedy to match the delights and heights of aforementioned'Hangover' you will be very disappointed. If you lower the bar a bitand simply want to grab a funny, enjoyable movie to watch, then chooseyour Due Date!

Is Due Date the new Hangover? It is not. But it has its own rewards.

I didnt think this movie would be good when my friends and I saw it in theaters however I was sorely mistaken. This movie was one of the funniest comedies ive seen in awhile. I feel Hot Tub Time Machine Tops this movie but This movie was defanitly up there. alot of ppl compare it to the hangover because of Gilafanakis's roles but Due Date far surpasses the hangover as does Hot Tub Time Machine why ppl compare those two I have no idea. Robert Downey JR. and Zack Gilafanakis have great chemistry and deliver a great, strong, solid performance all the way through. I highly recommened this film if you are in the mood for a good laugh you wont be dissapointed. Blu Ray or DVD, its a comedy there are some high impact crashes that look and sound better in blu ray HD picture and Sound but the whole movie itself doesnt matter what format. Again if you have an HD LCD or LED TV youll want blu ray as blu rays regardless of genre or effects will always have better quality everything but this film really doesnt matter. Enjoy the movie if you see it I hope this review helps.

This review is from: Due Date (DVD) How much you'll enjoy Due Date depends more on your esteem for the leads rather than the quality of the screenplay; it is a mess of emotions and situations, working more than not, though tainted by that air of laziness that the entire production invites.

The critics are being pretty harsh on this film, and yet they give highpraise to such films like Role Models and Get Him to the Greek, so gofigure. But I had a lot fun with Due Date, It was a fun slapstickmisadventure, almost what we loved about The Hangover, so it is clearto say I don't agree with the critics on this one.Peter(Robert Downey Jr) an architect looking to get home to hispregnant wife(Michelle Monaghan) who is expecting in a week. And whenhe gets on a plane, he quickly gets kicked off, when he gets into anunfortunate incident with Ethan(Zach Galifianakis) a pot smoking moron, and wanna be actor, who is obsessed with the show Two and a Half Men.When Peter is looking for new ways to get home. Ethan has a car andoffers to drive him. Although it is against Peters better judgment, butfeeling there is no other way, he goes with him. Will Peter make it ontime for his child's birth, or will Ethan drive him nuts during this?A lot of people said this is a Plane,Trains and Automobiles ripoff, butyou know what who cares. This was a funny laugh out loud film. Downeyand Galifianakis have funny chemistry, they just play off each otherperfectly. Like The Hangover it is one entertaining misadventure, I saydon't listen to the critics, see this movie and form your own opinion.

So infuriating is Ethan that Due Date very nearly loses us, too, at the outset, but over time, the bearded boor manages to win everyone over, audience included.

I am going to keep it extremely short, as i feel that i already wastedenough time watching this movie. What can I say, laughed maybe 2-3 times, and i should add that therewere more instances that i was rather disconcerted than entertained. Not one character in this movie deserves to be called funny. Jokes -let me just say that there are gags including weed, masturbation anddrinking "coffe" made out of s/o ashes. I think that you'll get thepicture.I sometimes try out and watch comedies that have 4/10 on IMDb,and theyare sometimes 100% better than this one here.To sum it up - i am very disappointed!

Truthfully I wasn't expecting too much from this movie.Based on anearly reviews, which gave it clearly bad vibe it was suppose to bemediocre at best, but I was hoping that it could deliver at least fewlaughs here and there. As it turned out, it is one of the bettercomedies of 2010 in my honest opinion. Pairing Downey Jr. withGalifianakis was very good idea for a road trip movie plot, and DueDate holds on for all of its 100 minutes thanks to various reallyfunny(sometimes touching) exchanges between two leads. Also we have gotcameos of few famous stars(among others: jamie foxx, juliettelewis)which always helps to enrich the story. It is not entirelyperfect comedy, there are some weird, and not necessarily funny parts, but those are automatically recompensated, and thankfully outnumberedby those that work just fine. Some critics made complaints aboutcharacters not being well written enough, as we don't know great dealabout them when the movie ends.I say, this is comedy, not a Thelma &Louise type of road movie movie. It's not a character study, it's humoris based strictly on the dynamics between main players. I almost forgotto mention that DD is very well shot, and some moments really make youappreciate some of the landscape US can offer. So to sum it up, it is probably my favorite comedy of the year, andalthough I thought that The Hangover was good(but not "most grossing Rrated comedy in history" good), I hope that there will be people whowill also find Due Date more pleasant treat.

Welcome to the ritual humiliation of Robert Downey Jr.

I think people have too high expectations. I laughed out loud at a lotof the points of this comedy. I loved a lot of the lines ("I thought itsaid Texaco") ("I despise you on a cellular level." "I get that a lotand I'm working on it.") (When Ethan kept drinking the coffee to keepfrom choking on it.) I like both these actors. I could believe all thecharacters. It made sense that they "bonded" after Ethan saved Peter. It was worth renting. Maybe not as good as Hangover, but fun. Therewere only a few "gross out" parts I didn't like that I won't bothermentioning here. And, it was a bit much to believe the ending (thatthey would make it to the hospital on time and that Peter wouldn'tcollapse until he got there.) But I enjoyed watching this movie.

I went into The Hangover expecting absolutely nothing, as I had notseen the preview. I went into Due Date expecting The Hangover, as Ithink Zach Galifianakis is brilliant. The movie did have more of aheart than The Hangover as the relationship between Galifianakis andDowney Jr. transforms. However, it lacked the one-liner magnificence.Cars are stolen, shots are fired and babies are born. The story withJamie Foxx lacked substance, his character confusing. I didn't findthis movie to be as "R" as The Hangover. It was just as outrageous, maybe more-so. I cringed in several parts, which is not something Iparticularly like to experience in a comedy. Downey's raging got old,and it wasn't funny in the first place. Overall, the movie wasn'tterrible, it may have very well been considered a "great" comedy ifcreated before The Hangover. Galifianakis made the movie. I don't thinkI laughed at anything Downey said, despite his acting and good looks. He belongs in dramas.

This is a disappointing turn coming from Phillips, particularly since "The Hangover" was such a fresh, bracing brew of black comic fun.
Ethan Alter 14 April 2012
Too bad that Phillips and his team of screenwriters don't take full advantage of the stars' unique chemistry.
Rick 13 April 2012
Why do movie makers feel so compelled to put out crap like this? Terrible script which had to be the product of someone with serious emotional and intellectual delays. I don't think it was irony that led the aspiring "actor" to a role on "Two And A Half Men" . . . very fitting. (And not in a good way.)Unless you're a 13 year old boy, give this one a pass.

I really enjoyed this film and frankly it made me laugh from start tofinish. I was beginning to think Robert Downey Jnr had lost his touchafter seeing Iron Man 2, which was a total nightmare! I was wrong I'mglad to say and he was totally engaging in this film. I wasn't sure ifZach Galifianakis could top his performance in The Hangover, but Ireally think he came close if not possibly edging a little better. There were times that I laughed out loud and I found the the filmamusing all the way through, I was never bored and there were smallmoments where it was really quite touching and emotional. I don't wantto tell you anything to give away the story, but it's a story about twoguys, who were seriously unlikely to be friends taking an action packedand hilarious journey together. Definitely worth a watch!

This review is from: Due Date (Amazon Instant Video) I was hesitant to see this movie. I got the feeling all the good bits were in the previews. And they were. However they seemed a lot funnier in the previews than in the actual movie. My husband and I considered stopping the movie on many occasions, but somehow we did manage to watch it the end, in hopes it would get better. It really did not. I would not recommend this movie to anyone.

I've been very interested in watching this movie ever since I found outabout it. I was a fan of Todd Phillips' The Hangover and through that Iloved Zach Galifianakis. Robert Downey Jr. always does solid work.Through all of that I had high expectations and as with allexpectations there is always a risk that they will not be met.I caught a pre-screening of this in Michigan and it was highlyentertaining. It's up to par with The Hangover to me and moremeaningful. There were more sentimental moments here than in Phillips'last movie and the humor doesn't rely as much on gross-outs andraunchiness. The cinema was laughing throughout the movie. It's not an original idea(comparisons with Planes, Trains, and Automobiles are inevitable) butit was more than satisfying. I say it's the funniest movie of the yearbut I haven't seen all the comedies released this year.Highly recommended.

You should read the IMDb full storyline and full synopsis. It helps. This is a comedy so it's suppose to be funny and it is, funny enough. There are in my opinion four types of comedy. The first is so funny, you will need to catch your breath for having laughed so much; thistypes also makes you cry because you can't possibly laugh any more orany longer than you have up to when tears just start trickling downyour cheek. It's the kind of movie doctors recommend for your healthexcept of course if you had recent surgery. 'Due Date' is not one ofthose. The second type will, if you are prone to such things, make you peebefore you can reach the toilet. 'Due Date' is not one of those either. If you are prone to the aforementioned reaction, by all means avoidgood comedies and horror films. The third makes you and your friends laugh enough you would feelspending what you spent on the movie, snacks and refreshments not to bea waste of hard earned money. 'Due Date' might well be this type ofmovie. At this point I'm assuming you have a sense of humour becausethe fact of the matter is that there are far more people who believethey have a sense of humour than there are people with a real sense ofhumour. If you did not at the very least grin, reading the descriptionof the first two types of comedy, your sense of humour is calledSchadenfreude in German. Look it up on Wikipedia. The fourth is all other comedies and who gives a rat's ass about those. If you had the reaction described for the first type of comedy whilesmoking a joint, you could just as easily have been watching thisfourth type.I've read some very well written and informative reviews about 'DueDate' on IMDb as you may well have. Mine is not one of them I know.I liked the movie. I thought Zach Galifianakis' performance was hisbest yet. Robert Downey was good; it's not his best nor his worst.

In Due Date, Robert Downey, Jr., and Zach Galifianakis play the typicalodd couple in this vulgarized take on the road trip movie.Galifianakis' character accidentally lands Downey onto the no-fly list, and Downey's wife is going to have a C-section in five days, so the twomust travel cross country together to get Downey home for his baby'sbirth. Fairly standard scenario, Downey is the straight man, andGalifianakis is the guy who no matter what he does, his crazy anticswill always wreak havoc upon Downey in one way or another, and thesegags just feel tried and done before. For example, Downey has anAfrican American friend in Jamie Foxx, and of course they play theusual gag where Downey walks into the delivery room and sees an AfricanAmerican baby on the table to only find out that he went to the wrongroom, and this sort of sums up how the whole movie is. It is a moviethat seems more interested in these kind of one note gags than any hintof a real story with emotional heft. While a few of the gags are funny, most of them, like the above mentioned gag, are been there, laughed atthat before. While these gags can still make you laugh, how many timescan we laugh at the same thing, and when it's surrounded by a standard, cliché story that is light on any real consequence or conflict, youwind up with Due Date.I give Due Date a 5 out of 10!

This review is from: Due Date (DVD) There's not much bad you can say about a comedy that makes you laugh. This will more than satisfy that, but the movie itself moves into a different direction that it partially--but not fully--deliver on.Robert Downey Jr. is masterful as the dickish, temper-prone, soon-to-be father architect on his way cross county after an incident on an air plane puts him on the no-fly list. He is accompanied by a wanna-be actor, Zach Galifanakis.Of course, hilarity ensures. But with it comes a lot a heart as both recount memories of their respective fathers and how it has shaped their lives. The film, though, had much more room to grow with this though, failing, though, and contimues in the outlandish comedic actions. There is a lot of heart and as you continue to watch it, your feeling for the charactors grows. You only make it to the top of the hill, though, instead of over to the other side. But it is full of laughs front to back. And there is not much more you can ask from a comedy.
