Though it is a nice movie, i don't find any thing special orintellectual in the story as we have seen lots of good old moviesearlier .Russel Crowe,Elizabeth and Liam Neesom have acted verywell. The story gets its turning point after the entry of Liam Neesomwho share his experience to the Hero how to plan for the escape fromthe jail.Traces of Sentiment, bit cruelty, wrong deeds, car chasing, littlecleverness(nothing New) are visible here and there. The director hasdone a marvelous job with the available story and limitations. Can notimagine this movie without Liam Neesom who plays guest (vital) role.Nice camera, lighting,Music and editing.Main theme copied from themovies- Three Fugitives,Great Escape etc (sorry if i am wrong). On thewhole it is a better movie.

Russell Crowe plays a man who's wife is convicted of a murder he's convinced she didn't commit. After she tries to kill herself, he decides to break her out of jail. Although the movie felt somewhat slow for a portion of it, ultimately I have to say that I enjoyed it, and can highly recommend it. Here's why:1. It's a smart movie. It makes you think, and you're not told every last detail up front. In fact, you don't even know if the wife was innocent of murder or not for most of the movie. You're led through the story with pieces to the puzzle, and by the end it all comes together. It was really interesting. 2. It was not predictable. I found myself constantly evaluating what was happening, and trying to figure out what would come next. When you think you know what's coming, you realize you don't. It had some interesting turns and twists. Although it started out slow, I think the way it progressed was important for the development of the characters and the story. It was, in my opinion, a good decision to develop the story this way, and worth sitting through. 3. It challenges your values. I had to keep wondering if I thought Crowe's character was doing right or not, and I found I kept evaluating whether I wanted him to succeed. Was he a desperate man who was forced to become a hero? Or was he a man who has gone over the edge into darkness? It certainly makes you think. 4. The acting was amazing, as you'd expect from Crowe. We think he's one of the very best actors of our time. Elizabeth Banks played the wife, and she was so believable. I was surprised that Liam Neeson had such a very tiny role, and Brian Dennehy, a powerful actor, barely said anything. Still, their presence in the film added to it. 5. There was some good action. Not a ton of it though, but enough to keep your adrenaline rushing once in a while. The last portion was edge of your seat exciting. Ultimately I'd say this is a very satisfying movie experience. It's different, not a formula, and by the end you're on the edge of your seat.

I don't like Paul Haggis as a man. His work does nothing for me; I amnot altered or improved by experiencing his shapes. But I have to admit that the man knows how to tell a story. He engages, and those working with him  primarily Crowe  know how to collaboratewith his techniques. I first noticed this trait in Crowe in Gladiator. He is profoundly aware of the director's intent, and the filmmakingtechniques that support that intent but which are outside the usualscope of an actor's mission. This is essentially a film about fatherhood, though framed asaddressing justice (itself the father of revenge movies). Crowe seemsto ingest this intent as if every element of his work is addressed as achild. He is remarkable, with a remarkable ability to understand andcommunicate that knowledge. It is made explicit in a scene where hesits by the side of the highway with his wife after a near catastrophe, while we are out of breath. He and she are silent but a deepcommunication is made that recenters the film. I imagine this was thefirst scene written. Haggis is readable that way.It is also a film which engages by having every scene tell us lessinformation that we are used to, with just barely enough left out forus after a while to place our narrative listener not in the scene, butin the scene following. I have remarked that this is something Russelland Ridley seem to have invented and Haggis would have noticed. Crowesupports that here. I imagine the script girl being driven crazy.Haggis takes this "just enough omitted" technique beyond the slowlyunfolding parts of the film into the hectic chase at the end. We hardlynotice, but this editing of the exciting part is the by now common"Transformers" technique. What makes it seem more masterful is how thetechnique is integrated into the soul of the thing and not just adevice which originated in Michael Bay trying to save money on effects. If you are a parent or near being one, this will likely engage. Itwon't matter much. It won't transform you. But it may remind you a bitabout yourself.Ted's Evaluation -- 3 of 3: Worth watching.

A totally improbable sequence of escapades by the protagonist put this'thriller' in the big yawn category. Most of what happens is beyond themeans of the 'ordianry' guy. I mean who would try to duplicate prisonkeys (James Bond?...), how would a school teacher know where to locateall the counterfeit paperwork he needed? OK its supposedly on theinternet but would Mr. Nice Guy have the courage to approach criminallow life coolly and calmly? If you analyse the film the flaws areendless. How many different wigs did the kid wear throughoutfilming. And the director ought to known that suspense is differentthing to boredom. Ho hum...

Russell Crowe was at his brilliant best. This tense thriller haseverything, from a good story to the edge of your seat suspense! Nicelittle cameo part with Liam Neeson added to the thrills. Credit shouldalso go to Elizabeth Banks who plays Crowe's not guilty/guilty wife asshe certainly gives a brilliant performance of the accused wife andmother facing the slammer. But it's the get away plan the Crowe'sChaacter hatches that although in the real world improbable, for a moviemakes perfect entertainment. If you're a fan of Crowe or just love damngood movies The Next Three Days is a brilliantly gripping, thrilling andtense movie that only being a 12 certificate the whole family canwatch.I think the critics missed this one when it first came out onrelease? Best film of (2010)

Where do I begin?...This movie starts out with a bang, the first 15-20 minutes had me glued to the TV..and then the bad stuff begins...First of all this movie is WAYYY too long, by at least a half hour. The next hour and a half dragged by, with some twist and "suspense" moments that actually made me laugh out loud.(Not intentionally). I expected a lot more from this and Paul Haggis. Everything about this movie seemed forced and so many unnecessary scenes to try and throw the audience. For anyone who hasn't seen this yet, PLEASE do not buy it. One of the most disappointing movies of 2010. Trust Me, I see everything that comes out.

This is an above action thriller. It could have cut about a half hour from the beginning, but once it gets going it's a lot of fun. Underrated for sure. I recommend.

After the controversial films Crash (2004) and In the Valley of Elah, director and screenwriter Paul Haggis surely chose his next film withcare, in order not to enrage to the sectors of the society he had notoffended yet. The result is the film The Next Three Days, which despitebeing a moderately interesting thriller, did not leave me verysatisfied, at the same time that Haggis could not achieve in here theenergy from Crash or the emotion from In the Valley of Elah.I do not know if the French film Pour Elle (on which The Next ThreeDays is based) followed the same path because I have not seen it, butwhat I most appreciated from The Next Three Days is the evolution fromthe main character, who is a docile teacher who suddenly has to becomeinto a relentless criminal in order to achieve his plan. That elementwas the main thing which kept me moderately interested during themovie, and even though it has some dull moments, it was interesting tosee the fact that the tension does not come from arbitrary externalevents (like in almost all the Hollywood-style thrillers), but from theinternal fight from the main character, defeating his own instincts andkindly nature in order to fulfill with his purpose. Having said allthat, I would have liked to see another actor in that role. I do nothave anything against Russell Crowe, and I consider him to be a goodactor; but for some reason...No. It is not "for some reason". The specific reason is Liam Neeson'scameo. The first half hour from The Next Three Days gets a bit tiring, because after the detention of the main character's wife, we see himfacing the difficulties of raising to his little son, who does notcomprehend why his mother left him; we also see the frustrations offighting against the judicial system from the United States; and thetense relationship the main character has with his wife's parents. Butwhen Neeson comes into scene, the movie seems to come to life, and thatmoment made me to have good expectations with what was going to comenext. Unfortunately, Neeson only appears during that scene, and hedisappears as fast as he appeared. That made me think that The NextThree Days would have been much better with Neeson in the leading role.Crowe brings a credible performance as that character...but Neeson wasliterally born for those characters with an ambiguous morality, and Ithink that the low energy and lazy narrative from the movie would havebeen compensated on some way with that actor in the leading role. The Next Three Days tells a moderately interesting story, but I do notthink that the solemn tone which was used to tell it was appropriate. Ido not mean that I needed the presence of explosions or stunts...Isimply mean that the depressing tone adopted by Haggis decreases themovie's energy, and it runs the risk of occasionally tiring thespectator (well, at least to me) when it is exclusively focused on thepredictable family drama from the main character. Besides, Haggis' colddirection occasionally "took me out" of the narrative, and it made meto question the credibility from some elements of the story. However, despite its various fails, I think that The Next Three Days deserves aslight recommendation because it generally did not bore me.

I want to say thanks to everyone who takes the time to write a reviewhere. I have never written a review here, but I definitely read thereviews here before I watch a movie and it does help me decide on whichmovies I watch. That being said, I was out of my chair the last fifteento twenty minutes of the this film. I did not get a chance to read manyreviews on this one so I was not sure as to what it was about. I thinkthat is the best way to watch it. Either way, chances are you will berooting for some of the characters and it is not a predictable movie asothers have pointed out. I cannot say much more without spoilers.Overall excellent movie!

Watching the trailers for this film, I was sure it would be a hit. Then, it came and went without much fuss, and I didn't catch it till it showed up in our $1.50 theater. To my pleasant surprise, it is a strong film, with a good plot and some great acting. Russell Crowe, Elizabeth Banks, and Olivia Wilde more than make up for Liam Neeson's laughably short cameo--laughable, since his name got a top billing."The Next Three Days" revolves around the murder indictment of John Brennan's (Crowe's) wife, played by Banks. All evidence points to her guilt in the death of her female boss, and she gets put away in the county jail, set in the middle of Pittsburgh. The Steel City is a great setting for a film. Director Paul Haggis uses it nicely, making the numerous bridges a part of the film's plot when Brennan, a normally meek-mannered community-college teacher, decides to help get his wife out of prison. Meanwhile, his wife is not fully on-board with his plans, and his son is still grieving the absence of his mother. In the theater, audience members gasped at a few of the surprises--one of which was psychologically believable, but still felt like a bait-and-switch tactic. The audience also gasped at one or two scenes that did not play out in the typical Americanized cinema fashion. Crowe's character is not the slick, former spy, superhero that we saw in Liam Neeson's "Taken." Instead, he uses his brain to make his plans, and when brawn comes into the picture he tends to bumble things. The audience seemed to want him to kick butt.Personally, I was thankful for an intelligent thriller that built slowly around characters and plot, unfolded logically but in unique ways, and ended with some emotional satisfaction. But this satisfaction does not come in the typical cinematic last-minute wrap-up, in which everyone gets their due and the good guys lay all their emotions on the table for us understand. There are some understated moments that leave us somewhat unsettled, even as things are tied together. Like Haggis's other films, this is not a paint-by-numbers genre flick. I, for one, appreciated that.

At the risk of stating the obvious, at its core, this story is not about an escape. So those expecting The Fugitive or Die Hard 19 will be disappointed. To make this a proper Amazon movie review, I'll tell you the story, which you already know. Man's wife is falsely accused and he springs her. But the real story here is how far an ordinary person will go when pushed to the limit, or to flip the coin, what you might expect from somebody who feels they they no longer have much to lose. These two items are handled rather nicely, including Russell Crowe's transition from school teacher to desperado. The only false notes, assuming you can buy the story to begin with, are two strikingly beautiful women fighting over a pudgy community college teacher, another gorgeous young mom who really doesn't serve a purpose in the story, and Liam Neeson's odd and phony accent. But these are more than offset by some great turns like slipping through Customs and of course, finding the garbage bag at the end. Is the whole thing plausible? Well...the escape probably isn't but sadly, the prospect of being falsely accused and convicted seemed absolutely believable to me.

This review is from: The Next Three Days (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo + Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) For never seeing a preview I bought this movie with little to no expectations. Once it was done I wanted to start it over and re-watch it!!! This was a very good movie. I strongly recommend this movie to anyone looking to escape and just sit back and follow along with the characters. I have zero negative things to say about this movie!!!!

When something unfair or wrong happens to us or someone we know, peopleattempt to rectify a situation in their own specific ways. Some wouldrather play by the rules, others have it in them to bend the rules, andthere are those few that would actually break the rules if it meantprotecting what matters most. That's what separates and defines ourmotivational factors as human beings living in an uncertain world wherenot everything is securely in our grasp. The Brennan family gets a rude awakening when the wife gets arrestedand the book slammed shut for cold blooded murder. Did she do it? Well, the community college teacher of a husband stands by to protect herdespite the evidence being stacked. He's not a lawyer and he doesn'thave friends in high places, but this everyday man does have enoughdetermination to create a scheme to see his wife out one way oranother. Enough to break a rule or even ten getting there."The Next Three Days" steadily paces as a drama/thriller. RussellCrowe's character goes through a number of emotional stages andencounters various people along the way, including those who arewilling to help him, stop him or just plain got caught in the middle. There are some motivations glossed over as to how he got from point Ato B, partly to give a continuous stream of action towards the latterportion to keep a viewer in the moment and from guessing the outcome. Those attempting to hamper his plan are unrealistically suspicious andcoincidentally one step on top or behind to amp up the energy. Itcreates an escalating climax, but still feels manipulated to go acertain way by falling too much into the hands of the filmmakers tomake this more marketable. At the heart of it, the story manages to give something empowering backto those who've ever had an injustice against them, from gettingrobbed, laid off, cheated or, here, a loved one getting taken away andno chance of getting them back unless, that is, something's done aboutit. This film explores the current events of people wrongly convicted, yetit also explores jail escape. This film is full of action and suspenseand ultimately tests what a man is willing to do to protect his wife'sinnocence. The ending, which I'll refrain from revealing, was actuallya happier one than expected but with a slight twist. This movie comesoff a little like a based-on-a-true-story sort and even presents the"black market" and underworld into light. Though the film has someunbelievable moments, like him willing to travel to meet an author whojust happens to agree to meet him without hesitation, or how easily thewife was wrongfully convicted of murder, nevertheless, it tests theboundaries mankind when they know the truth in their hearts. This filmshould not be overlooked for those interested in this type of film.

I didn't know this was a remake of a French movie until I slapped themoney down on the counter and the clerk asked me if I'd had seen theFrench version. That's when an alarm went off in my head and my innercurmudgeon asked "Where is the originality these days???" And afterwatching this over-long and convoluted bore, I can't imagine the Frenchmovie being any better. On a positive note, this movie has a good cast- Russell Crowe,Elisabeth Banks, Liam Neeson and a few others. However, all but Neesonare horribly wooden in this film. It's unfortunate that Neeson onlymakes a cameo because his 5 minute performance had more emotion in itthan anyone in the 130 minute duration of the movie. Russell Crowe goesabout sounding like he is reading his lines off a sheet of paper, andBanks keeps the same monotone voice through the ENTIRE movie.I still am unsure of the movie's plot after seeing this disaster.Basically Crowe's wife is accused of murder, and the police arrest heras soon as she discovers the splattered blood on her jacket (seriouslyshe didn't notice until just days after it happened?!?!?!?!). Afterbattling the justice system for 3 years with no luck, she is sentencedto serve a life prison sentence in three days. Crowe, unable to findanything else to do, decides to bust her out of jail... and then therest of the movie doesn't make much more sense.Well, I'm all for a wrongfully accused movie- one that makes you think, one that has the viewer on the edge of their seat, but this movie is soimplausible I can't even begin to describe. My biggest problem beingthe movie's ending- it turns out she didn't do the crime, someone justbumped into her with blood on her, but we get what sounds like a clearconfession in the middle during this exchange:Banks: "You never even asked me if I did it!" Crowe: "Because I knewyou were innocent!" Banks: "Well then you would have been wrong!" This somehow left me feeling at the end "What...?". Maybe it's that I'm getting older- I'm not a teenager anymore sotherefore it's becoming easier to pick a movie apart- I understand whatsuspension of disbelief is, and I know what implausibility is- thelatter is what his movie flirts with. And plain and simple, if a movieis not believable in the least bit, I can't get into it. Let's also notforget them trying to get into Canada. A Canuck myself, Canadianofficials are NOT as stupid as shown in the movie!!! Having been inalmost every main airport, security would be able to detect aphotoshopping job in a (fake) passport. Toronto and Montreal areespecially hard on these.I wish I could recommend this movie but it is all too implausible andconfusing. I haven't seen the French movie but I already don't plan to.Ah well, at least this wasn't 3D.

I don't what the critics are thinking: about a C average in ratings? So happy that I didn't go by them. Best movie I've seen in a long time. The parallels to real-life are amazing - "last time we flew you lost our luggage". My spirit is renewed after seeing the common guy beat the system. Cheerio!

This movie was "watchable", but not a whole lot more. Being a big fanof the show Prison Break, I generally enjoy this style of film/show andthought that this movie had a lot of potential, but by the end, it justseemed like a cheap imitation. The characters were not particularlybelievable, especially Russel Crowe, who had a pretty sub parperformance compared to some of the great movies he's previouslystarred in. There were additionally a handful of minor holes in theplot that just left it feeling poorly thought out and executed. Thewhole movie just feels a little bit rushed and poorly put together, soI would not see it again. If you're a big fan of Russel Crowe or havenothing better to do, it's worth watching, but in any other instance, Iwouldn't recommend it.

I can't remember the last time I was so urgently invested in the plotof a movie to where I'm constantly yelling-willing-urging the characterto do this, do that, no! DON'T DO THAT!!! This film has a deceptivelyslow beginning but builds to a pace that is nail-biting andedge-of-your seat. Something about the characters' actions andreactions (and the amazingly TENSE situations they are in) made this amovie I got intensely emotionally invested in.Crowe absolutely shines. You feel sympathy for his sad situation, youhalf-hate his obsession, and then you hope like hell for his success. Some real swings there, all in one character and one film.Great flick. Just be prepared to grab/hit/throw something whilewatching it, just to relieve the tension!
