This review is from: Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage Of The Dawn Treader (Amazon Instant Video) THE VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER has always been my favorite of the Narnia books and this movie didn't dissappoint me (at least not much)! It is such a fun story, but more than that, the underlying themes hit so close to home that I couldn't help but love it. It is amazing that the primary lessons of this book still came through, even in the hands of a movie company whose bottom line is profit. The visual effects were beautiful, and even though it is a bit scary we took our stout hearted grandchildren (ages 4 and 6) to see it. We had already read them the book series, and they sort of knew going in what to expect, but to have it displayed in living color right before their very eyes was a lot for them to handle. There was some eye hiding, but with guidance, they coped very well and it didn't give them nightmares. I do advise any adults who are thinking about taking kids to see this movie to watch it alone first and determine if it suitable for your particular young ones. There are some scenes that could be extremely scary for a small child and ours did plenty of eye hiding at intense parts. They knew they were free to ask to leave, and they chose to stay the distance. There was no crying, and once we talked about it they wanted to see this movie again and handled it fine the second time around. My only regret was that the feature film time slot required that some great parts of the story had to be pared from the finished product. I really missed the sub-plot about how Prince Caspian finds a wife. I was disappointed in the whole Susan/Caspian romance that was inserted into the last movie and maybe that is why the real Caspian romance with the daughter of a star was dumbed down in this flick. Movie makers are notorious for taking liberties with much beloved stories, and this is no exception.

Edmund and Lucy Pevensie, return to Narnia to meet up with King Caspianand the Dawn Treader ship. A great evil is growing in Narnia and theonly way to defeat it is to assemble the 7 swords of the lords ofNarnia on Aslans's table. All three seek out to banish the evil ofNarnia as they make their way to Aslan's country at the end of theworld. This is why Disney needs to take back the series. The 7 sevenbooks to be made into movies is a tough one. But! It's not meant to bein 3D. 3D IS AN EFFECT. Not for an adventure movie. It's not the bestmovie out of this franchise but entertaining and I think for theHolidays a great movie to watch with the kids. Hard to find stuff towatch with the family these days but I think this is one you can watchand enjoy with the whole family.

This review is from: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (Two-Disc Edition) (DVD) I love the Narnia series of books, so even though the movies are never as good, I've been collecting them as well. I didn't get a chance to see this movie in theaters, but pre-ordered it anyway to add to my collection. I received it today, but still haven't watched it because I'm so irritated by the packaging. I haven't jumped on the blueray bandwagon yet, but for movies I know I am going to care about: Harry Potter, Twilight, Narnia etc, I always order the 2 disc dvd editions cause I love the documentaries and stuff. Now, I don't know about the rest of you, but to me, a 2 disc edition means 2 discs in the same case. That's been true with every other set I've purchased. Not this one, however. The 2 disc edition comes in 2 separate cases, and to add insult to injury, they're the new, ultra-cheap cases that I've been seeing more and more of lately. I like the movies to all be in 1 case; space on my shelves is at a premium, and if I would have known this was what I was going to receive, I would have just bought the single disc edition and gone on with life. Since both discs have different covers, I can't just put them in a double case and go on with life. I'm very, very disappointed in this purchase, but hopefully actually watching the movie will make up for its terrible packaging, at least a little. I just wanted to warn anyone else who might be considering the purchase of the 2 disc edition what they'll be in for when they receive it so that hopefully, they won't be as disappointed as I was.

This review is from: The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader (Single-Disc Edition) (DVD) Not as good as the first two in the series but it is just wonderful to watch. The casting is perfect! Loved the actors who played Lucy, Edmund and King Caspian from the first two movies and loved the new character of Eustace.I missed seeing all the Pevensie children---all the actors are just perfect for their parts and they just make the movies soenjoyable. I think all three movies have been so underated!!!! They have been overshadowed by all the Harry Potter filmsand all the other stories that may contain more dark and dramatic effects!!!! But I think all three of these Narnia filmsdeserve much more attention that they get from the media. This film is alittle different than the first two----there aresome parts that are silly or not necessary to the film but all in all it is still an amazing story!!! I never had thehonor of reading the Narnia books so I have nothing to compare it to but from what reviews I've read people complainabout not being the same as the books! I don't think I've ever seen a movie made from a book that was exactly the same asthe book! Sometimes they are better than the book because you see it visually and not have the think about what it would look like--like when your reading a book. I don't think they will be filming another one of the books---it's time hasended and people want something more violent and dark---------these generations do not understand the messages in these books---and do not appreciate this kind of fantasy stories of Narnia. I love them!!!!!!

I enjoyed all 3 Narnia movies but I have to say this one was very entertaining from start to finish, this is my favorite Narnia movie. My son who is 19 also liked it. Great story line, good for all ages.

Once again we are draw into the world of Narnia as Edmund and Lucyalong with their cousin Eustace to help King Caspian find seven Lordsbanished from Narnia by his uncle. This third film in the Narnia series is a great improvement on the lastand by far the best yet. Sadly with Prince Caspian it appears the filmmakers threw the book out the window and made up their own story whereas this one sticks a lot closer to the book I am pleased to sayalthough there are naturally a few twists and changes to the story.Seeing the film in 3D adds little as clearly it was post converted.Ben Barnes looks a lot more comfortable in the skin of Caspian thistime especially having dropped the Spanish accent. Will Poulter asEustace is a clear stand out too but being a kids film none of the castreally get a chance to show off their acting talents with any longmonologues or scenes. Reepicheep's story is also well done. The film is good fun and there are some great action pieces especiallywith the sea serpent. The special effects are well done too. A greatfamily flick for the holidays.I must also note a wonderful touch over the closing credits by usingimages from the book. A source of reference I wish had been used in thelast film. Overall a good job by Fox having now taking over the series fromDisney. Now if you can just go back and re-make Prince Caspian for meplease?

I was SO looking forward to the Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and wassorely disappointed. The film felt like they took the original story, chopped it up, thenthrew it in a blender with seven magical swords and some ridiculousgreen mist! While the film stayed true to main themes of the story, much of thecharacter development and purpose to each of the minor island storieswas lost. Unfortunately this meant that most of the magic of the storywas lost as well.I gave the film 6 stars due to the redeeming qualities that were thestunning visuals, some excellent acting (notably by Will Poulter asEustace), and a beautifully executed final scene. If you haven't read the book, then you may enjoy this film immensely, but if you are a true Narnia fan, don't go in with very highexpectations.

This review is from: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) The Blu Ray picture was very good, however the story was only OK. I loved the first movie and liked the second one. It seems the franchise takes a step back with each release.

I have read all the books twice, have been a big fan since I was a kid. I was so excited when I found out there was going to be a 3rd. After seeing the film today, I must say I was not disappointed at all. Yes they did add a few new touches that where not in the book, but that's what they do when they make movies, I have learned to expect that. I also read that the Lewis family approved the changes. Overall it was a great film, I will buy it, as soon as it comes out on disc. And it would be a great movie for any family or individual to see during this holiday season. Bah Humbug to the movie critics, I think they just like to listen to themselves complain.
MovieGuy109 29 April 2012
Michael Apted poorly directs this third installment of the Narniaseries. After the failure in Prince Caspian, Andrew Adamson did notwant to direct the next Narnia film. Unfortunately, Apted is a horriblereplacement. The action scenes are poorly staged and look so fake it islaughable. The visuals that look like they came straight out of anaction video game are ugly. Plus Apted's film has little flow fromscene to scene. The story and plot lines feel disjointed as the moviegoes on. He fails to tell the story in any form, the story does notfeel well-told in either visual or literate form. The end result willplease die hard Narnia fans but everyone else will be bored to death.

Okay, in many ways, VODT was everything you could ask for in a fantasy/action movie. It had heart, adventure, and great characters. It was one of those movies that just made me happy, that filled me with a sense of adventure and lightheartedness. As for an adaption of the book, which I love, it stunk. It wasn't as drastic a change as, say, The Lightening Thief; I'd more compare it to Eragon (but with much better acting and affects) or Inkheart. Stuck to the basic story, took out a lot, put in a lot, and shifted stuff around. There was this whole theme with finding seven swords and stopping this evil mist, none of which was in the book. I guess they wanted to make it more `epic' but I think the book was epic enough. I thought the island of dreams was much scarier in the book, when we didn't know what it was until too late. Wish the movie had focused as much on Caspian and the seven lords as the book did. There are reviews that cover this movie better than I can, but my say is, if you're not going to mourn too hard over what could have been, if you think you can enjoy something that isn't totally Dawn Treader, but still has plenty of Narnia magic, fun, and laughs, go for it. Personally, I liked it better than Prince Caspian.

My 13 year old daughter loves all three of the latest Narnia movies. Not as good as the first two or the book, this one is still fun for the whole family (beware the sea monster scene near the end for younger kids - though it saves the movie for older boys). They added a storyline about gathering lost swords to stop an evil fog that is not in Lewis' book. But it works on two levels - it connects all the subplots into one (the book is too episodic to make into a movie as is) and emphasizes the theme of resisting temptation.

I liked the first two movies in this series very much, hence myexpectations where high while going for this, but unfortunately itdidn't match. My bad experience could be partly attributed to the bad3D glasses I had, but for the most parts, the movie was 'boring'. Someof my friends even left the theater halfway. I haven't read any of theNarnia books, so my opinions about the story too will be completelybased on the movie. The portrayal of Actions and adventures were of aclichéd style. The adventures on the sea will make us recall thepirates of Caribbean, but the experience of nowhere near even in 3D. Atsome places, the settings may lead our imagination to think of someexciting twists but nothing happens and the movie takes its normalcourse. Don't know whether to blame the movie or the actual story. AlsoI didn't quiet understand how the time lines go between Narnia and thereal world. Between first and second movie, a 1000 years passed inNarnia while only an year in the real world, but in this movie, itlooks like both time lines move at nearly comparable pace. Overall, itis a decent watch for a kids and normal movie goers. But if you aresomeone with light tint of critics mind, you will find it boring, better go watch Harry Potter, which is far better even in 2D,I watchedboth in consecutive days.

This review is from: The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (Two-Disc Edition) (DVD) Thias isn't a review of the movie itself but a warning about the second disk (Explorer Pack) of the two disk set. The difference in price here at Amazon is $4.00 more between the two disk DVD set and the one disk DVD set. Four bucks isn't much but but it really is too much for this one. I am a fan of the extra features and almost always buy them but save your money on this one.

This review is from: The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader (Single-Disc Edition) (DVD) Although aimed at children I think adults will be entertained by this third (I think) book/installation in the Narnia series. Not only that, but there are wonderful life lessons like being happy, thankful, proud of who you are to go along with your entertainment as well. Thanks C.S. Lewis!

After seeing The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, I remember thinkingto myself, "that was a really good kids movie that even the adults canenjoy." After seeing Prince Caspian, I remember thinking, "that was agreat movie, period." In fact, Prince Caspian is on my list of top fivemovies from 2008. So needless to say, my expectations for The Voyage ofthe Dawn Treader were pretty darn high. Unfortunately, after seeingDawn Treader, it appears that they may have been too high. This is nota bad film. In fact, there are some sequences that worked quite well(the picture on the wall that takes the kids back to Narnia comes tomind). And when it was all said and done, it was still a mildlyentertaining piece of cinema. The problem with Dawn Treader, though, becomes more apparent when you begin to add up the sum of it's parts.Quite frankly, there were some scenes that felt as if they didn'tbelong. One example is where Edmund and Caspian almost come to blows atthe pool of water that turns items (and people if they fall in) togold. Up until that point, there was no indication of feelings ofanimosity between them. The scene felt forced, as if the makers of thefilm deemed it necessary to include some tension between Caspian andEdmund, akin to the tension that existed between Caspian and Peter inthe previous film. It's a scene that transitioned poorly, and didn'tfeel genuine. And there were others as well. Finally, the screenplaywasn't as crisp as it was in the first two films and the editing leftsomething to be desired. All of this leads to a film that's a bitdisjointed. Indeed, when it was over, I had the feeling that I'd justseen some good pieces of what could, and should have been a very goodfilm. However, just as a puzzle can never be complete until the piecesare put in the right place, Dawn Treader is a film that feelsincomplete. Some of it's pieces are just in the wrong place, whileothers, seem as if they don't belong at all.

Having seen all of the 'Narnia films so far I thought it would be ashame to miss the opportunity to see the third offering when it came upon TV recently. Although maybe not as strong as the previous two, Istill enjoyed this one. I did suffer (I thought) from its certificationthough all of the fight scenes are toned down quite a bit. Having saidthat, it's still very well made with a pretty strong storyline to backit up. More of my thoughts after this brief summary.Having been drawn back to Narnia, Lucy and Edmund Pevensie are joinedthis time by their cousin Eustace Scrubb. He is peevish, annoying andaltogether a bit obnoxious, to say the least! They land at sea and aredragged from it by Prince (now King) Caspian and the crew of the DawnTreader. The ship is on a mission to find the seven noble men, alliesof Caspian's father, who escaped to the Lost Isles. When they arrive, after a bit of a hiccup involving some slavers, they discover that sixof them had set sail to find the source of an evil that has plagued theisles. Many citizens had been sacrificed to a mysterious fog that makesthem disappear. The ship sets sail on an adventure that will test allof them to their limits. I really don't want to say any more or theSpoiler police will have me keel-hauled (again).Very well made with some excellent CGI, this film is great to look atand it really should have achieved more praise for that (IMO). As faras performances go, well I have to agree with the critics, thestand-out performance came from the young Will Poulter as EustaceClarence Scrubb. He fully deserved the nominations and praise he'sreceived for this performance. The others involved also did a good job,so honourable mentions must go to; Georgie Henley as Lucy Pevensie,Skandar Keynes as Edmund Pevensie, Ben Barnes as Caspian, Gary Sweet asDrinian and the voice talents of; Simon Pegg as Reepicheep and LiamNeeson as Aslan. Now, I have to admit that, of the Narnia stories, I have only ever read'The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe' when I was young. This meansthat I can only judge each subsequent film adaptation on the filmalone. I'm pleased to say that I quite enjoyed this one, with a fewmisgivings. The highlight being the relationship between the charactersof Eustace and Reepicheep, that really stole the dhow (for me). Overall, although not quite as good as the first two, I did find it veryentertaining and I'd deem it worth a look Recommended. My score: 7.2/10.IMDb Score: 6.4/10 (based on 29,950 votes at the time of going topress).Rotten Tomatoes 'Tomatometer' Score: 49/100 (based on 155 reviewscounted at the time of going to press). Rotten Tomatoes 'Audience'Score: 63/100 (based on 144,284 user ratings counted at the time ofgoing to press).
