My expectations were met completely. The story is very intelligentwritten. The cast as Liam Neeson, Diane Krüger and Bruno Ganz playedtheir roles very cool. There are many puzzles to solve and many turnsand twists. I love it when there is suspense. There were a few slowpaced sequences but it didn't stop the dynamic countdown. The car chasewere really top mixed with some product placements. The action sceneshave also been executed on a very high level. The cinematography seemedtoo much displaced and could have been better. Anyway, congratulationsto all the stuff. This is another example how thrillers of nowadaysshould be made. I could really feel the atmosphere of Berlin and it isa nice city to visit once. 6,5/10 Don't miss TAKEN.

An American couple arrive at Berlin for a summit on biochemistry; thereis peculiar atmosphere, a suitcase left behind. Is it going to unfold aFrantic-type (the Polanski film) fish-out-of-water scenario about theincreasingly bewildered American losing himself in a strange place? Isit going to be some cheap Face/Off clone except without the actual facechange? Is it going to rip off The Game, some other film about the heroa hapless pawn in shady conspiracies? It gets worse as you keep watching. More exasperatingly implausible, downright stupid. Bruno Ganz shows up and, of course, he rattles offabout the shame of Nazi heritage to a stranger he met just two minutesago. He is completely wasted, as is Frank Langella. Liam Neeson - who,for some reason, I keep thinking as the Randolph Scott of our times, with the benign face and rugged demeanor - mostly coasts through this. With Taken, he at least seemed to be mildly interested in the role ofthe avenging father. So, it's basically bottom-of-the-barrel stuff, a slot-filler for themultiplex while catchier stuff awaits release. It's a b-movie with acast of recognizable faces to save it from the straight-to-video bin.Avoid.

The trailers made this film out to be an action/thriller starring the man who trained Obi-Wan Kenobi and Batman. However, it's a slow-paced boring piece of film. If you were looking for a film like "Taken", you won't find it here.

What makes this a weak movie is all the little and big things thatdidn't make a whole lot of sense.1. At the beginning, the briefcase is left at the airport accidentallywhich makes sense if Neeson is a normal Joe, but this is his importantlecture, so there's no way he'd leave it at the airport. But once weknow his secret, it makes even less sense.2. When he does find out that he left the briefcase, his wife is like40 feet away, a normal person would tell his wife in person that heleft the suitcase at the airport and he would go and get it. In themovie, he leaves unexpectedly and tries to call her and of course getsno cell reception -- false suspense. 3. At the first car chase, the taxi girl should be driving -- she knowsthe streets and has clocked multiple miles driving vs Neeson. Why doesNeeson drive? Because he's the star. 4. It's Thanksgiving and a Sunday -- which is impossible. This was therationale for not being able to contact the US Embassy and his buddy inthe US. How convenient. 5. After all those dead bodies in the hospital, don't you think thepolice would believe his story about a conspiracy? You'd think Neesonwould go to the police after that. 6. The Stasi agent seemed to give up too easily. Doesn't he have anyfriends he can hide out with? He knew what was coming, so he could haveleft. I was actually waiting for him to show the airport photo to Coleand have Cole deny that the man at the airport was Martin Harris. 7. Having Neeson recover the briefcase at the airport. Um, those superspies with massive resources and lots of fake ids can't recover onebriefcase from an airport lost and found? The movie makers wanted thisso Neeson would have access to fake ids. 8. After breaking multiple necks and multiple car crashes, they have tostage an accidental overdose for Neeson? WTF, just shoot him in thehead and dump his body. The mission is not low profile anymore. 9. The head spy dies with his eyes closed to prove that he's a bad assand resigned himself to death. Ugh. I would at least prefer that hiseyes remained open. 10. Movie amnesia. Two knocks on the head restores lost memories. Thatis so wrong and so stereotypical. Not only that, but early on, hefights incompetently until he recovers his memory. His driving skillswere superb though. They should take a lesson from Bourne Identitywhich seemed more realistic.

I watched this movie with no idea what to expect, except Liam Neeson'sgreat acting skills. When I finished watching this film, I wasastounded and deeply satisfied with it. The film was enveloped in deepmystery, action, and drama at every minute. Liam Neeson portrayed asgreat work or even better as he did in his previous Action/Crime rolein "Taken." However, after viewing the film, I saw the trailer for themovie, and realized that important and rather revealing parts of thefilm are exposed in it. This disappointed me. My advice to you is, ifyou haven't already, don't watch the movie trailer. It will make moviemuch more enjoyable. Overall, Unknown is a great Action/Mysterythriller that everyone can enjoy.

I always enjoy a suspense movie that actually keeps me in suspense right up to the ending. There were some moments of slowness in the movie, however the overall affect of this movie I thought was good.

I liked this film because I really felt like I didn't know what was going on until Liam did. Lots of clues and who done it's in this one. Keeps you thinking, what happens next? :)

This review is from: Unknown (DVD) I am a big fan of Liam Neeson movies. I thought it was a great movie that made you think about what was going on. I thought it was suspenseful and held my interest. I actually saw this in the movies and brought on dvd. I thought the ending was mind-boggling and me go HUH and think twice I really enjoyed it.

An interesting flick that will keep you on edge for the entire film. I am especially fond of Liam Neeson who plays a botanist whose identity is âstolenâ - January Jones, the wife, doesnât do anything for me but is an excellent actress. The âstarâ in my humble opinion is Diane Kruger the cabby. What a hottie!! Remember her in Inglorious Bastards? She was the starlet in the basement, etc.Anyway, the film UNKNOWN has a pretty good story, excellent acting, great location (Berlin, near the Brandenburg Gate, as well as all over the city), and will have you saying, âI would have never thought that, would you?â once you leave the theater. Go see it.

Very simple really. Why did I click on possible spoilers? Because Ifyou've seen "Total Recall" with Arnold Schwarzenegger then you've seenthis film. Change it from Science fiction to action, change the settingfrom Mars to Berlin and replace Sharon Stone with January Jones andit's the same thing. Why did I give it 5 stars? Because it kept me guessing until just thesame spot that "Total Recall" did. When he finds out that he's notreally who he thinks he is, you pretty much know where it's going to gofrom there. I found myself fast forwarding just a little bit at a timeand nodding to myself. It was still entertaining.

While it's not a sequel, one can see this film and call it 'Taken' with a twist and they wouldn't complain. They would get their money's worth.'Unknown' has plenty of action, suspense and dramatic moments to keep one engaged and satisfied.

...or at the least rarely watched, this faux-Hitchcockian thrillerhelmed by Jaume "House of Wax" Collet-Sera, with a script by twowriters of no renown from a novel by an author of somewhat greaterreputation, simply cannot transcend the weakness of its premise or theflimsiness of its characters. Act One trades on contemporary fears ofidentity theft, Act Two sends our hero and his gal sidekick (Diane"Inglorious Basterds" Kruger) in search of answers, and Act Threeunleashes a trick ending that fairly well beggars the imagination aswell as all credulity. Leading man Liam "all kinds of movies" Neesondoes what he can with the material, but none of it stretches his chops, and all sorts of other name actors take their paychecks as well, withthe only genuine standout being Bruno "Downfall" Ganz as an ex-Stasiagent conveniently brought into the nonsensical fray. All in all, it'smindless entertainment of a very pedestrian sort, and makes me thinkthat Collet-Sera's upcoming live-action version of "Akira" will be adisappointment. Next time, Liam, don't forget your suitcase, eh?

This is a decent popcorn flick, but the story has been told before much more skillfully. The story is composed of the first 15 minutes of The Bourne Identity (Single-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo) with a hint of Shutter Island [Blu-ray]. In order to make this movie stand on it's own, it needed another twist. Without it, it's a predicable action romp with its only saving grace being Liam Neeson in the starring role. You'll likely know how the story will play out within the first few minutes and, unfortunately, the action has all been seen before with higher production values. Caring about the characters can turn a predictable plot into something special, but the character development in this is pretty weak. All that said, its a decent movie to rent on a boring Sunday afternoon.

Big Liam Neeson fan here, but this movie is below stupid. Based on a French novel that's probably much better, the film follows a professional assassin who, after a car accident, forgets his true identity and believes he is his cover identity, an agricultural biologist. Along the way he meets a displaced Bosnian illegal immigrant who shows some incredible fist-fighting skills (and who just seems too German to be Bosnian), and his real boss who turns out to be a gentle gentleman. And of course, the "bad guys" never kill the protagonist without a long speech and, therefore, a chance to get killed first. The last 30 minutes are especially pathetic. It's also a pity that handsome German actor is never put to good use.

Tacked onto a perfectly respectable thriller, Unknown's mass of unlikely turns and implausible reveals make the whole film seem retroactively less sophisticated.
Garth Franklin 27 April 2012
The action beats, when they hit, are fine but in the end this is only a serviceable thriller that's easily forgettable.

UNKNOWN Â CATCH IT ( B+ ) Unknown is pretty good attempt in revivingthe success and method of Taken. Liam Neeson has somehow stronglyemerged as an action hero thanks to immensely successful surpriseblockbuster "Taken". Unknown is also as thrilling as Taken was andfilmed in beautiful foreign locations but the only thing I didn't likepersonally was the length of the movie. The story which could have beeneasily told in 1/2hr movie was told in almost 2hrs. Anyway the suspensewas worth it though I think some of the action chase sequences wereforce just to cash on Taken. Liam Neeson was a perfect choice and trustme he has our sympathy. It's very rare to see an action hero abrilliant actor as well. So, in this case Hollywood as well as theaudience is lucky to find him. Dianne Kruger is fantastic. Here Ireally want to talk about January Jones, she was Ice-Cold (though thisis not the movie, she is playing Emma Frost). My memory of JanuaryJones's acting is very forgettable. First time I saw her in 2003 in"American (Pie 3) Wedding". And after almost 4 years she becamehousehold name in USA with her performance in critically acclaimed "MadMed" (Which I yet have to see, so can't comment how great she is in MadMen). Considerably her critical acclaim she must be brilliant on MadMen but here she was Gorgeous yet Ice-Cold or maybe she was supposed tobe like that as he role required? I'm confused. Overall, it's not Takenbut very close. Little long but the suspense was indeed somethingno-one has expected!

Just came back from movie theater ...Since first minutes i was afraid that this movie will be Taken-twin - alone man is trying to find answers in foreign country. But the way theUnknown build is much better than you expect.Very intriguing plot, which keeps you nervous all the time, solidcharacters and of course Diane Kruger who can adorn every movie.Bruno Ganz is very convincing and draws a lot of attention to his smallrole of ex-spy. Beyound doubt, the best amnesia-action thriller i have seen for years. Will go to watch it again for sure.

Well written and acted movie. Not your typical guess what is going to happen next movie. This was great from start to finish, I did not see the ending coming the way that it did. Liam and Diane were great casting choices. I highly encourage people to see this thriller. It will have you on the edge of your seat for 2 hours, and you will not realize that you have been there that long. Well written, directed and acted all the way around.

I have no idea why I even watched this film; I hate Liam Neeson'sacting with a passion! I think I was bored or possibly high at thetime. The film is very confusing. But on the whole it is about a manwho loses his memory and employs a former Nazi, illegal immigrant andhis own inane grumblings at random people to ascertain who he is.Neeson's acting of a man who has lost his memory is not very believableas he seems way too driven and angry and the chronological order inwhich he regain's his memory is very tedious! It ruins the mystery. When he meets who he is supposed to be it become glaringly obvious whatthe story is about, there is a final twist however and that I didn'texpect but it wasn't enough to save this heap of refuse!Without giving too much away, the reason's for his memory loss and whathappens at the end do not seem strong enough. The audience is not madeto connect with the back story and the characters within. There is afeeling of unimportance throughout the film and then at the end whenall is revealed it is more of an, "ah! so that's why this all happened"feeling than one of complete satisfaction and attachment.I hope Neeson stops making films after this!
