Small time drug dealer Al Dean (Geoffrey Hanson) sells pot to his friends in the small Colorado ski town of Ajax, in hopes of raising enough money to buy a house for himself and his brother, who is in the VA hospital. He will finally be able to afford the house once his shipment of Nepalese Temple Balls comes in. When they finally arrive, a pig named Scrapple, which was procured at a pig chase, eats the hash balls and Al finds himself drawn into a big time drug deal in order to purchase the house.

Scrapple is indeed the best movie I've seen that captures ski bum life- and it has an awesome soundtrack. But the plot is stupid and the characters (especially the bad guys) are 2-dimensional. Worse though is that there is hardly any skiing! (just one short flashback- it takes place in summer). I'm sorry- you can not have the quintessential skibum movie without more skiing- or at least more time on the ski area or in the backcountry. The trick is to do it without it becoming "Hot Dog" or a Greg Stump movie. Anyone know a movie that does that?

Absolutely unlike ANY film I've ever seen before! The music, scenery, storyand characters leave you wishing you could return to this simpler,care-freetime. If only places like "Ajax" (Telluride) still existed today with it'sgood friends, good tunes, and good times. I've watched this video over andover and still find myself singing along, reciting my favorite lines, anddiscovering more of it's charm each time. All I can say, is if you livedthrough the 60's and/or 70's, (regardless of how much you actuallyREMEMBER...) you've got to give this film a look. It's appeal is sounusualit's hard to quantify. The search for one's self, trust and love, arenegadebut loveable pig, "temple balls", Taj Mahal's music, outstanding filmbackdrops, good friends, all combine for a very charming and creativefilm.Give it a try if you can track it down...it'll be more than worth theeffort!
