Pretty lame

---------------------------------------------------"I Am Number Four"---------------------------------------------------This was a pretty snoozy teen-oriented sci-fi/soap opera flick, with a tone that was distinctly reminiscent of TV shows such as "Roswell," "Veronica Mars" "Dawson's Creek" and particularly the lethargic Twilight series. Similarities include a platoon of well-groomed, overly pretty twentysomething actors pretending to be highschool kids, which is made particularly difficult because they were cast for their looks rather than their acting ability. The script is pretty leaden, and pretty predictable -- you have seen this all before: "Heroes," "Roswell," "Superboy"... Teen-alien-on-the-run poses as human kid, goes to high school and finds loyal friends and love even as bad aliens track him down and cause many explosions and much artless exposition. The film ends on a hopeful note: additional leaden exposition is tacked on telling us that the quest will continue: A sequel?? Wow... let's hope not!! (Axton)

A four for 'I am Number 4'

This review is from: I Am Number Four (Amazon Instant Video) OK. I read a bunch of the reviews but I was intrigued enough to watch the video, and then write my own review. Here is my opinion:* Did I like this movie/video? -- Yes, I thought it was action filled and had a unique premise by the original author.* Better that 'Twilight'? -- Most definitely yes. I gave it 4 stars. (I also think I'm getting a little sick of vampire movies where the female lead is such an stupid ass.)* More geared towards teens than adults? -- I would have to say yes. Still a thrilling ride for adults, though. Plus, I am a fan of Timothy Olyphant -- Justified is now in my top 5 favorite TV shows. He did a great job as the "father" in this film.* Will there be more? -- Its hard to say. Box office standards being what they are...* Would I watch a sequel? -- I believe I would, but I think it needs the same or a better vision by the director/producers, etc.* How does it compare to other action/sci-fi films released in the last few years? -- I've noticed an annoying trend in the last few years that is driving me a little crazy. Large film studios are sticking with the "tried and true" instead of exploring new stories, or new ideas. Which is why we are seeing multiple sequels of the same story (ie: Marvel and DC comics being made over and over and over...) or they are RE-making films from other countries -- like The Ring, Wicker Park, The Tourist, Three Men and a Baby, Let Me In, The Uninvited, etc.* What about a description of what you like or dislike about the movie? -- Aahh ah, ah! As they say in Dr. Who, "Spoilers, sweetie." Descriptions are everywhere on the Web. Trailers tell a portion of it, and if you are desperate for details, there are several reviews listed here that may help you, or not. I'd say, "Give it a try, what the hay? It's only $3.99 and fairly entertaining at that."Other complaints and issues with the latest movies in general:What happened to our own story tellers? What is with the 3-D craze? (I think that the 3-D is just a way to pry another $4-$5 out of our almost empty wallets for ill-fitting, ugly glasses.)Why are we searching so hard for a decent movie hero or heroine when we have books filled with them? Why are film studios not looking for those books and making good scripts of them? And that's my whine for the time being. Good luck movie fans, I hope you find what you are looking for.

Exactly what I expected

This movie isn't the best action film of the year. This movie isn'tanother tongue-in-cheek teen movie. Most importantly, this movie isn'ta "wannabe" of the Twilight franchise. This movie is entertainment forall viewers that delivers a good story, action, and desire to want moreat the end. I was lucky enough to work as an extra in this movie forabout 2 weeks and was able to see how this film came together, piece bypiece. The visual effects truly make the film enjoyable. Seeing itbehind-the-scenes, I couldn't imagine what it would look like. To behonest, I was pleasantly surprised. The acting was believable and consistent (unlike previous reviews whoclaim the actors lost steam halfway thru the film). Timothy Olyphant isperhaps the best character in the film, Pettyfer following right after. The best part about this film: the love story within the plot WAS NOTpainful/annoying to watch (such as Twilight). This movie is definitely worth seeing in theaters, as the action scenestruly make the experience. I Am Number Four is a great start to whatcould be a fantastic franchise.

Couldn't wait for it to get here after seeing trailer

The trailer made perfect sense to us, so we saw it as soon as we could, and we're glad we did. My son (22) said it was pretty good except forthe "chick moments" but my g'daughter (18) and I LOVED it all. It hadpeople we cared about; evil, ugly villains; a mystery; lots ofexciting, beautifully staged action with surprises; and even a dog. Welook forward to the sequels that will likely be coming. When the endcredits said it was based on a book my g'daughter grinned and said, "Abook!" So, of course, she now has to read it. Definitely see it on thebig screen because the fight sequences are so much better there. Wewill definitely see this one again.

Smallville and Twilight Fusion

A evil alien race called Mogadorians attacked the planet Lorien killingeveryone except 9 special Lorien Teens and their guardians. The teensescaped to Earth. The 9 can only be killed in sequence. These specialLorian teens each possess legacy powers. As they mature a new legacy isrevealed but the Mog's have traced the teens to earth and they are nowbeing hunted down one by one. One was killed in Malaysia, Two inEngland, and Three was murdered in Kenya. John is Number Four. Stayingalive and finding the others is all that matters. You want to talkabout a meal, how about a fusion of the Smallville formula and asprinkle of Twilight. This movie has a little bit of both, just enoughto capture all age groups in what I foresee a Healthy Franchise on theroad for Success. I'm not a critic but I know what makes money and THISIS MONEY. A must see and a 5 out 5 stars.

Lacks cohesiveness and overly ambitious

"I Am Number Four" is an action science-fiction thriller with an interesting premise. Number Four (Alex Pettyfer) is an alien whose home planet, Lorien, was destroyed by an evil race of hit men called the Mogadorians. Four is one of nine Lorien children sent to Earth to escape their planet's destruction. Legend says that they will eventually gain enough power to vanquish the Modadorians. So the Mogadorians have tracked them to Earth, intent on wiping out all nine. One, Two and Three have already been killed. Four must act quickly and decisively, but first he must hide in plain sight. How? By enrolling in his local high school. This movie is all over the place and far too ambitious. Sometimes it aspires to be "The Matrix," other times "The X Files," and still others a John Hughes flick. Bonus extras on the Blu-ray/DVD/Digital Combo Pack include a making-of featurette, bloopers, and six deleted scenes.

Would have been a pretty crappy movie if wasn't for the final action scenes in near the end

Now I would have passed on seeing this in theater because of how crappythe premise and the trailer looked. I am not shocked the people thatworked on "Smallville" made this movie because the trailer looked likea episode of a TV show with people with powers. For it being a 2 or 3episodes on a TV show it would had been alright, but for a movie itfails on so many levels. It really isn't worth the time to kill intheater. It was basically like watching a dull teen drama except withteens that have powers and aliens. The vibe of this movie has"Twilight" all over it, even some of the scenarios has some stuff thatis similar to "Twilight". And I wouldn't be shocked if that was thedirection it was aiming for and for it's target audiences. This isbasically a sci-fi teenage love story, but it's just boring and Ialmost fell asleep watching this. In fact this would have been a prettycrappy movie if it wasn't for the final action scenes in near the end. It's also similar like the "Twilight" movies are with it's cheesy andterrible dialogue.4/10

Really loved it...

ACTION FLICK & DATE-MOVIE - RICH TO BOTH AudiencesALEX PETTYFER dominates every scene. And TIMOTHY OLYPHANT effortlessly inhabits the guardian/father/mentor. He listens, he demands, he is a warrior, and superb motivator...the man that lurks in the harbor of desire of kids and great Dads everywhere.* Peppered with humor in an exciting ORIGINAL story, it is an action flick & it a good date-movie for the blossoming love story & without gallons of blood.Returning to ALEX PETTYFER; Alex has striking movie star good looks...the camera adores him & the director wisely stays with his reactions. In almost every scene, it was tough to take eyes off him, even when joined in scenes by any of the gorgeous females picked to surround him.Alex has matured in acting ability from Tom Brown's Schooldays [age 13] & Alex Rider - Operation Stormbreaker (Widescreen Edition) [age 15]. Working with great British actors in those, Alex clearly did not squander absorbing advice & learning acting choices from them. [Both films available on Netflix & Amazon.com]* Alex Pettyfer has a lithe sense of quiet movement; capably showing fitting emotion through facial expression, body language, & movement. The rest of the cast are well positioned for their roles, and hopefully, subsequent sequels. I AM NUMBER FOUR easily shows up 200-mil-plus effects-laden, plummeting paper weights. Let's hope that Steven Spielberg & Michael Bay stay aboard for a `next in the series' film...soon...while the actors are young enough to continue their roles.* I AM NUMBER FOUR imprints on watchers like the first Star Wars; resonating with audiences on first viewing, & then returning for second & future showings. Don't miss I AM NUMBER FOUR on a BIG screen in a movie theater.

Good but not awesome

This review is from: I Am Number Four (Amazon Instant Video) I thought the story line was pretty original. I felt like it had a lot of potential to be a great movie, but it fell short with the villains. Good weekend watch, but not a "oh my goodness, i need to watch this" movie.

bboyfarii 01 May 2012

Must see. Hope they film the next ones.

Well, I have just seen this movie on the cinema and I'm glad to say itwas excellent. Really enjoyable ! The movie is well presented, its flowis very smooth although at some points I feel that its rhythmaccelerates. The characters are very well done, everybody is perfectfor their rol, and they really carry on the paper of supernatural race. The fight scenes are excellent, and number 6, the woman, reallysurprises me to do really good fight scenes. The plot is interesting, not much original, but the entire movie is well done. Everything isnice, and the movie is open for sequels. Hope you see it, it deservesit and you will surely enjoy it. Hope the sequel come soon !

I've seen this movie 100 times before, and I still love it

Although I would say that this movie is very clichéd I still found itcompelling viewing. It contains all the aspects I have seen in manyother movies. The idea of John developing his powers reminds me of thefirst Spiderman film, the forests remind me of Twilight, also the ideaof the mysterious new kid keeping himself to himself, but then fallingfor a girl and then risking his life reminds me of many films I haveseen in the past including Twilight and Prom. The graphics were incredible and the acting wasn't bad, in fact, theacting was pretty good.John's back story and the fact that he can onlyfall for one girl made the story appealing and in my book a must seemovie even if it is clichéd!

Number four is number two, in a large portion.

How old are the guys who wrote this thing, fifteen? Taken from asuccessful book, the writers appear to have stitched this thingtogether with every cliché existent in the genre. EVERYTHING is soooofamiliar. A bastardized cross between Twilight, Superman and amultitude of other heroic stories, I Am Number Four has a bunch oflikable actors and half-decent action sequences that are interminablypunctuated by stultifyingly bad romantic scenes that any TV soap operawould instantly consign to the reject bin. Who wrote this crap? Neitherfish nor fowl, the movie sinks under the uncertainty of just what itwas aiming for. Like they say, too many cooks spoil the broth and it isobvious this movie was written by a committee. Where did the bad guyscome from, some Halloween party in a naughty part of town. (Not a badpart of town because they are just waaaay too laughable to be REALbad.) One really pulls for the actors in this movie but the materialthey are given is insulting in its juvenile approach. Obviously aimedfor an undiscerning teen market, this flick lands with a clunk at thefeet of the impressionable eight year old who hasn't been out in awhile. Great production values at work and some worthwhile actionsequences but who wrote the dialogue? OMG!!!!!!

Mav Peri 29 April 2012

One of the worst movies I have ever watched.

Oh my god. I have not seen a worst movie than this in a few years.Everything is incredibly bad. The casting, the story, the performances, the screenplay. At times the movie gets so bad that its actually funny. The only reason I did not walk out of the theater was the expensivecinema ticket.I appreciate this may upset hardcore fans, but please understand that abad movie is still bad even if you like it.One can only hope that the producers will show mercy and not try andcreate a sequel out of this (even though plenty of hints were thrown atus suggesting that the suffering is not over yet). One last thing, the special effects; You can probably see better with aplay station 2 or the original x-box. The latest generation definitelyhas better effects than this picture.

I am Number BORE

I kinda knew what i was getting into as i started to watch this film,it starts of well for the first min, then died in the ass for about 50mins. It's long boring take to build up a story was getting on my nerves, thelove relationship in here was just putting me to sleep. The acting wasOK, the action scenes were decent, but apart from that i was beggingthis movie to move at a faster pace. Overall this movie should appeal to teens or fans of Twilight. Pleasekeep your mind at the door when watching this, cause if you don't, youwould probably get angry and then fall asleep. I cannot recommend this movie to anyone. Giving it 3 out of 10 for the action and acting.

Kick some Alien Enemies.. again!

D. J. Carusso has done his magic once again. I started to like his workafter I watched 'Taking lives' back in 2004. And after some stunningmovies like Disturbia (2007) and Eagle Eye (2008) he has returned tothe silver screen with a possible promise of an ongoing movie series 'Iam Number Four'.The plot has no twists or hard points to digest like some of Carusso'sprevious flicks. It's plain simple and straight forward. John (AlexPettfyer) is practically an alien. He came to earth in order to survivethe destruction of his home planet with 8 of others just like him. Buttheir enemy is at unrest and chasing and killing them one by one.Gifted with special abilities and strengths John is getting ready for awar with the enemies who destroyed his planet. Already the first 3 ofhis people killed, Jason the 'Number Four' must survive in order tofulfill his legacy.Running from place to place with his guardian Henri (Timothy Olyphant),in a small town of Ohio he finds the girl which he falls for. And nowboth of them are to expect the wrath of the enemy while the enemy getscloser and closer in tracking them down. Packed with jaw dropping animation and thumping action sequences themovie is not boring at all. Mainly concentrated on the teenage crowedit has it little romantic moments which does not bother the main theme. There is no big character development as such but maybe since theending hints of a sequel we might get to know them well in comingeditions. Strongly with a touch of a super hero movie which the hero throws carsaway just by pointing his hand towards it, John reminds me of our oldhero Superman who landed on planet earth after his planet Krypton wasunder jeopardy. I wonder if John will become super powerful later on. And not to forgetthat there are 5 others just like him somewhere on earth with differentabilities. John gets to meet one of them in this edition and tie up aleague with her. And I think sweet dog will become a very importantpart of the plot and all this is "IF" there is a sequel. As still thereare no solid leads on that taking place yes, this movie as one has avery loose ending. Seriously hang the viewers to dry without washingthem properly!! If you expect to see a 'total' ending then don't expectit. This is fantasy and it's quite good. Fantasy movies are for enjoymentbut not for serious criticism. So I rest my case at that point.my reviews at www.flickshout.blogspot.com

Falls flat of expectations.

I liked the book and HATE the movie... I say hate because I am currently in the middle of it on demand and had to stop because it was so painful to watch. They made to many changes that I didn't agree with and then parts that I would have expected to see... the visions of home, the story of why they are after them in the first place, none of it was really there. The biggest complaint I have is the relationship between Henri and John is NOTHING like the book. In the book the part I LOVED was the loving honest relationship between them and in the movie hes just a brat kid who wont do what hes told. Not to mention that they only look to be about a 10 year age difference in the characters. In the beginning when I first saw Henri I was like really?...who would think thats his dad? (Spoiler Alert)Then the way they portray Sam, like a kid that ONLY SOMETIMES has a problem with his fathers alien abductors... He knows John is an alien and yet just texts him and says "Hey come on over I know what you are" and they talk??? In the book Sam is scared out of his mind and with good reason... he just found out that his friend is an ALIEN... as far as he knows could be the ones who abduct his father. (Spoiler over) Geeze very disappointing so far. I hope to be able to change my review but so far this is a total waste of money and time.

ccollins1982 26 April 2012

unimpressed

before i watched this looked up the reviews to see if it was worth thetime and effort ................and i wish i followed some of thereviews and ignore this it isn't that its rubbish its that its allalready been done boy goes to a new school meets girl, girls boyfriendis a idiot (i believe the word is jock)and doesn't like him "being withhis girl" while the boy plays the moody outsider and falls in love withthe girl after a few weeks this was done in twilight and a lot of otherridiculous annoying films its like nobody even makes a effort anymorethis is good to watch if you ain't got anything better to do but justsave it for a really boring day

I am Number Four Movie

This movie was terrible. It barley followed the plot of the book andskipped all and any details.Wasted my money on this terrible movie. When will directors learn thatthe reason we even see the movie is because of the book so they shouldstick to what happens in the book and not create their own story.Terrible.I truly hope Power of Six won't be as bad as this movie. They need tostick to the plot and make sure to keep all the details accurate.Sometimes I think it'd just be better if the author directed the movieso at least we could see the movie from the point of view of the bookand it wouldn't be so crappy.
