So outrageous that anyone with a passion for gritty, violent, cheesy, car chase-filled seventies action cinema will find things to appreciate about it.

DRIVE ANGRY (2010): with Nicolas Cage, Amber Heard, William Fichtner,Billy Burke and David Morse, directed by Patrick Lussier. Rating: 6/10.THIS wild, bizarre, ultra violent seventies-style grindhouse actionhorror flick finds Nic Cage wearing perhaps his most ridiculous onscreen wig yet. Cage is pretty cool, though, as John Milton, a hauntedfather who escapes from Hell (with the Devil's right hand man, playedby William Fichtner, in hot pursuit) and sets out to save hisgranddaughter from satanic cult leader Jonah King (Billy Burke) who isabout to sacrifice the infant under a full moon.Milton teams up with a tough, two-fisted, hot pants-wearing waitressnamed Piper (Amber Heard) - who has had enough of her cheatingboyfriend and certainly does not hit like a girl , and the two head offdown the Louisiana highway in a stolen 1969 Dodge Charger."Drive Angry 3D" is not subtle, and the amount of blood-spatteredviolence and the abundant nudity ensure that is not for all tastes. Noris it a particularly good film. Plus, it falls to pieces abouttwo-thirds of the way through. But it so outrageous that anyone, likeme, with a passion for gritty, violent, cheesy, car chase-filledseventies action cinema will find things to appreciate about it. Theperformances are interesting (especially from Fichtner and Morse),Heard is real easy on the eyes, a lecherous fat man gets his testiclestwisted by Piper, and it contains the funniest, most violent, audaciousand shocking sex scene/shoot out ever seen on the screen. Plus, the 3Deffects are rather good.

Thriller without a Real Story

Some good visual effects, mixed with comedy. Multiple sex scenes andnudity. . .But ultimately the plot is lacking, extremely predictable, oh and guesswhat its all 3D, and again I had to put those annoying scopes just tosee like 10 minutes of exciting 3D animation !My Rating is 4, rent in a weekend when your bored maybe this movie willappear exciting and thrilling, but there are better movies in thetheaters.Oh and p.s: Amber Heard is really hot, Nicholas cage isn't doing hisbest.

walking out of the theater not angry furious

OK I used to consider Nicolas Cage a very good actor even when he has alot of popcorn movies which are pretty far from beign good. Even seasonof the witch was hardly critizised when it is not a bad movie at all (at least in my opinion) But here definitely Cage hits the bottom Idon't think he can choose something worst than this. It is so terriblethat no matter what he does next it will still look like a masterpiece.I will admit that the first 20 minutes are great entertainment: Extremeviolence, hot chicks and ridiculous dialogues sometimes work for me.But honestly, this is so exagereted and incoherent that you don't knowif this is comedy, action, horror or just a big piece of crap that goesnowhere. I think that it could be easily the last option and by the waynever ever consider watching it in 3d it will be the same horrendousmovie just more expensive.

A grindhouse film with the all the ingredients: terrible one liners, graphic violence, and a fair amount of naked women, yet it somehow misses the mark and is just bad.

A grindhouse film with the all the ingredients: terrible one liners, graphic violence, and a fair amount of naked women, yet it somehowmisses the mark and is just bad. Not even to the point of being so badit's good, it's just bad. Nicolas Cage stars as Milton, a man hell benton revenge and on a mission to rescue his grand daughter from a Satanworshiping cult, led by Billy Burke, that plans on sacrificing her soas to bring Hell to Earth. Along the way he gains the aid of Piper, played by Amber Heard, a southern, hard ass waitress, while also beingchased down by The Accountant, played by William Fichter, who is incharge of bringing Milton back to the prison that he escaped from,Hell. That's pretty much it, there's a lot of violence, weak dialogue, and lots of sex, but even the 3D can't bring this grindhouse flick upthe caliber of other successes like From Dusk Til Dawn, Machete, orSnakes on a Plane. The 3D is sub par at best, they use it way too much for thestereotypical gimmicks like bullets, explosions, and debris flying atyou. 3D's become just another way for studios to boost ticket prices, when lately the films that use it cripple the technology and makepeople feel like it is a pointless venture. 3D is suppose to enhancethe experience of going to the theaters by placing the audience intothe film itself. But all they seem to be able to do with it is throwthings or shoot things at you, with the exceptions of few, like Avatar. There are times during Drive Angry where they do place in the scene butthese scenes are few and far between and are overshadowed by the usualgimmicks. The cast is pretty strong unfortunately there isn't much for them towork with. Heard pretty much steals the show which isn't toosurprising. You have a gorgeous blonde with a strong personality, notto mention a southern accent on top of it, who would you rather see onscreen. Nicolas Cage is his usual character here, one that he seems tobe doing a lot of lately. He has some pretty good scenes here, one inparticular that is especially funny, having sex whilst in a gun fight(unfortunately not too original, reminded me way too much of the asimilar scene in Shoot Em Up). William Fichter and Billy Burke are thevillains and are fairly compelling in their roles, almost to the degreeof upstaging Cage in the title role. What Drive Angry does have going for it is the first half of the film. It's pretty entertaining and where most of the fun action takes place, starting from the very beginning. The supernatural aspect is prettycool and makes it more than just a revenge story but I was looking formore of it. There could have been some great fight scenes betweenMilton and The Accountant however there was only one that I canremember and it wasn't even a good one at that. Basically your going toget what you pay for from Drive Angry, but I guess I was expecting moreabsurdity, more supernatural action, and really bad dialogue, insteadit was kind of like they attempted to make a grindhouse movie withstudio control and restrictions thus making this mess of a movie thateven 3D can't save.

A good example of how to make a bad movie ..

I like Nicolas Cage, I really do. I even found " Season of the Witch "entertaining and liked it. So I was waiting for this movie and lookingforward to it, but Wow, I was so disappointed in how bad this moviewas.I can see some reviewers giving it high ratings, that it was bad in agood way, making it entertaining, but i disagree. this movie was bad atso many levels, the plot was as thin as a cracker biscuit, about afather seeking revenge for the death of his daughter. they tried makingthis an occult, grind-house, old school action type of movie like the70s with a supernatural twist, but unlike " Machete" this one failed tohit the target. The script was just awful, the dialog was terrible and boring, andnothing smart came out of the actors' mouths. sure it had someexploitative scenes, but most we saw in other movies which were betterexecuted, not to mention it had some scenes ripped off from otherfilms, " Shoot'em up " ? anyone ?? action was also just about average, and the 3D was a waste, and didn'tadd anything to the movie. the acting was atrocious, Cage was OK but hewas surrounded by amateurs. terrible script, awful acting, wasted 3Dand bad action made this a good example of bad movie making. I justcan't wrap my head around how Cage agreed to make this movie, it is waybelow his level !!! what ever happened to the " Face off " and the "Rock " days ?? I hope I see him do something better in the future..

Great Supernatural Road Movie

This review is from: Drive Angry (DVD) Blending the road movie with the supernatural goes back to Director Jack Starrett's 'RACE WITH THE DEVIL'-1975 and Director Robert Harmon's 'THE HITCHER'-1996 and its remake by Director Dave Meyer. This film has our main protaganist actually escaping from Hades to exact revenge against a Jim Jones wanna be who murdered his wife and is sacrificing his baby daughter at a full moon ceremony. Introduce a hot babe into the mix who can hold her own and a satanic character labeled the 'accountant' who wants to get our hero back to hell before Satan finds out and you have the gist of Director Patrick Lussier's 'DRIVE ANGRY', an entertaining hell ride of an action movie. Nicholas Cage persists in acting in some wild genre titles and is perfect for this role , gorgeous Amber Heard is our mortal waitress who aids Cage and Billy Burke giving the villainy a great upgrade. William Fichtner as the 'accountant' steals the film and 80's B-movie stalwart Tom Atkins returns in a great cameo. The usual fight / car chase / incendiary explosions titillate the senses with Michael Wandmacher's excellent electric guitar score aiding the rush. After all the high octane action movie rushes released this year, 'DRIVE ANGRY' (its the name on the license plate of Amber's car) seems fresh and timeless. Summit Entertainment releases it in a beautiful 1.85 Dolby Digital 5.1 transfer making you not miss the lack of 3D imagery with audio commentary by Director Lussier and Screenwriter/Actor Todd Farmer and Deleted Scenes, a collage of Nicholas Cage mayhem and featurette on the making of the film. Highly recommended.

It's like a discarded episode from Grindhouse, only longer and less funny.

Matt Surprenant 01 May 2012

Fun in a Grindhouse way - worth at least a rental.

I entered this movie with very low expectations. After all, gettingaround a 5/10 IMDb ranking isn't a huge compliment. However, this isone of those pictures that I don't believe was marketed properly. Truthbe told, I didn't expect the supernatural elements to play out so wellor be so prevalent, and they come in rather early. I just thought it'dbe good ol' Nick Cage shooting at people, nothing more. The surprise? It's executed quite well. It plays out much like those ofProphecy movies with Walken. We see characters doing what they do, butwe don't figure out exactly who they are until halfway through thefeature. It's unconventional, but keeps us mentally involved. As for the action scenes, most all of them have a thread of comedyrunning through them. One-liners are there, but so is some absurdchoreography involving trailer homes, muscle cars, baseball bats, andeven bedroom antics. It all combines in a way that makes the rideenjoyable, even if the story isn't too profound. After seeing it, I'd say it is highly underrated. I'd like to see it'scumulative IMDb score right around 7.6. Truthfully, Drive Angry isprobably more enjoyable than Tarantino's Death Proof for the casualviewer. No offense to those who really like the latter. In essence, there is a lot of action, over-the-top sequences (often ofa comically adult nature), a few 3D graphics, plus some religiousthemes that actually play to the benefit of the work.If you missed it in theatres, which you probably did, rent it. I'd liketo see this one be a successful retail item, even if it was atheatrical flop.

A big disappointment.

This review is from: Drive Angry (DVD) I have always regarded Nicolas Cage as a terrific actor. His talents are wasted in this vulgar, pointless and just plain awful attempt at a horror movie. If you like Nicolas Cage, action flicks or well done horror plots better skip this one.

Not a " National Treasure "

This review is from: Drive Angry (DVD) Thouroghly enjoyed the movie ,although a definately darker than his recent offerings as denoted by the "R" rating . A "B" movie at best ,but action packed through out . A morbid satanic comedy if that is possible .

Drive Angry

This review is from: Drive Angry (DVD) I have found anything that Nicholas Cage is in is never never boring. He really plays this one to the core. I have watched this one three times and still find it very interesting. Don't care a lot of the sex parts of the movie. It's a get down bad and dirty movie. No child should ever watch this one. This is close to the version Ghost Rider. And I loved that movie even more. Good verses evil.

Amazingly fun trash movie that has more sense than most hollywood films

Pure trash cinema goodness. Gobble it up and enjoy as Nick cage dominates the silver screen with ludicrous lines and stupid violence. My wife and I laughed our butts off. Nick cage totally owns in this one. The one star review donkey-faces below obviously need to get a life and go back to donkey school. Take careful notes in the classes: "Trash cinema & your body 101" and "Cageanomics 312". As vulgar as people think this movie is you gotta respect the fact that they did not write in some dumb romance with the young girl. She is just too young for Cagemiester. In that regard this movie has more sense than half the movies in hollywood. Go figure. PS if you went to see a movie called "Drive angry" starring nick Cage and expected more than what this movie gave you the FBI should put you on a stupid list.

Out of the typical...

Open your mind and let this movie give a different experience to you;explosive, dynamic, espectacular and Nicholas Cage giving one of his best perfomances of his career. This movie could be classified as a combination of "Gone In 60 Seconds","Hell Ride" by Grindhouse releases with no imagination limits.

kyle-nicolls 17 April 2012

Most epic sex scene of all time. Thats not a spoiler, says it in the R rating.

This movie is just awesome. Everything a average, straight,beer-drinking, meat-eating guy likes. Guns, explosions, swearing, boobs, muscle cars and a plot that is not hard to follow and doesn'tgive it all away immediately. Notice I did not say romance. This movieis effectively void of any 'conventional' love plot. Which is awesome. They get smeared in almost everything now-days. I did actually like theplot too. I dare say the first car chase is actually a pretty damn goodone.People complain about Cage's newer movies. My prior room mate. Youknow, they are awesome. They don't have much more depth than a lot of Bmovies, but they do get the high production values, hotter women andbit better acting. Which is a brand of movie I love. I don't wanteverything I see to be probing as A Clockwork Orange, as sympathizingas A Beautiful Mind or sappy as A Walk to Remember. All of those are1-time watchers. This is a grab a beer, turn the lights off and wakethe neighbors with surround sound movie. So yes, my vote is extreme because I just thought this movie wasbad-ass. Was it something really thought-out, god no. I fully supportthe direction of Cages career.

Kevin Carr 17 April 2012

Drive Angry is meant to entertain at the lowest level. But the fact that it knows its place in the cinematic landscape makes it fun to watch.
