Save your money

This movie has 2 shocker scenes. And in my opinion, they just put thesein to get people to talk about the film. Other than these 2 shockerscenes, the film lacks any real funny moments. It's all toilet humorand dragged on scenes that never go anywhere. I honestly thought theycould have done a much better job with this film, but instead, theyprobably won't even make all their money back. The picture quality ispoor, and the story line was lack luster. Save your money and rent iton DVD. The best moments in this movie were in the previews, and whilethese directors have had successful films in the past, they failed withthis one.

Farrellys' film about infidelity has both raunch and heart.

Dumb and Dumber

There are lots of movies touting stupid acting guys (and an increasing number of gals - way to fight for those equal rights, ladies!), overflowing with bodily fluids, sophomoric sexual one-liners, random acts of nudity, and usually some kind of mind alteration. These movies used to just be scenes strung together via dumb jokes, but thanks to The Hangover and its inexplicable Oscar nomination, now they try to pass off as farce. A farce needs clever writing and insightful satire to work well. However, the writing has become so awful and lacking in creativity that no matter how much I prepare myself for movies like this; they always let me down because they end up far more stupid than funny, and far dumber and juvenile than I anticipate. How low should expectations be? The latest movie in this growing genre is Hall Pass, a movie I proudly lump with Step Brothers as: Worst I Have Ever Seen. Once again, two suburban 30-40something guys find themselves in bizarre situations thanks to their complete lack of common sense and intelligence. The dopes, thanks to their 14 year old sexual maturity (obvious gawking at passing women and personal gratification in the car outside the home), get a week away from their more-attractive-than-would-make-sense wives to get it out of their system. Let the madness begin. I've seen episodes of Gilligan's Island that worked better than Hall Pass. What bugs me about this movie and Hollywood entertainment as a whole, is how often guys are portrayed as sex-obsessed, parentally challenged, clueless, spineless, geeky, immature morons. Yet, in every case, they are married to superior-in-every-way women who for unknown reasons tolerate these idiots. What does this say about how we view gender roles? Is this the concept of marriage that our society reflects, as seen in the mirror of Hollywood? Highly recommended...that you do anything but watch this movie.

Is it redundant to note that this Farrelly Brothers picture is rated R, "for crude and sexual humor throughout, language, some graphic nudity and drug use"? If anything here, the Bros are sticking to their brand. Maybe it's time they grew up a little bit.

Dan Gear 13 May 2012

There were some scenes early in the film where I couldn't catch every second joke because the audience was laughing so hard.

Edward Douglas 12 May 2012

There's very little that sets it apart from superior comedies that have done a better job portraying real people as the dirty-minded beings we all are.

Peter Keough 11 May 2012

Domesticity might be comfortable, but it hasn't done much for the comedy of Peter and Bobby Farrelly.

Did they have to be so Nerdy?

Would have been a little more entertaining and believeable if they weren't so completely geeky and stupid acting. Even their clothes were tasteless. I enjoyed their sense of humor but they looked completely ignorant in all of their activities. They should have had some common sense to them and intelligence to make it more enjoyable.

Hall Pass

This review is from: Hall Pass (DVD) Funny movie. Some scenes are kind of raunchy but it still was a funny movie. Though I wouldn't let young children watch it.

So so so so disappointing

This review is from: Hall Pass [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) I was expecting such a good movie out of this one but some parts where so bad I had trouble watching it. It's not really even a comedy it has some funny parts but to me it felt more like a life lesson movie that tried to use stale humor to get people to watch it. It had some funny parts don't' get me wrong I just would not consider this a comedy nor would I recommend owning it. If you really want to see this rent it and enjoy, I would love to hear feedback on this one.....Maybe I am just missing it

The premise is immature an annoying (left-wing nonsense)

If these guys are so desperate for sex, and if their wives are moronswho don't care who they sleep with, why not just go and find someprostitutes to sleep with? They don't even have a enough time todevelop a relationship. I am so glad to see that the sense ofcommitment to marriage is alive and well in Hollywood. Apparently, thepoint of the movie is to show that people don't really want to bemarried. Casual sexual or childish teenage infatuation are morecompelling than a committed marriage where the wife and husband haveremained faithful to each other. If a husband is so immature that hegoes around like a teenager dreaming about sleeping with younger women, then he should never have gotten married in the first place. He is afool who has no clue what marriage is about.

Farrelly brothers no more

they ruined the careers of some fine actors. Everything was bad, even the lighting was horrible like I had a bad copy (no this is NOT special effects). The acting was as if they said, here read your lines. Out of an hour and a half I maybe laughed for one minute. While the idea would make for a great story, it was like a home movie trying too hard.

Comparison: Theatrical vs. Enlarged Edition

The movie itself, you can judge.. It has its moments, but is no Me, Myself, and Irene IMO...There is an extended cut of the film (Enlarged Edition) which runs approx 6 minutes longer and has an additional 8 scenes. Sadly, other than one in particular.. the scenes are nothing too special nor do they change the film drastically. The movie is a mixture of comedy and seriousness (more towards the end). Sometimes the serious scenes outweigh the funny ones..The additional scenes that are added in the extended version are listed below:1) 30 min. Day One: The guys pick up Gary from the house. Apparently, his wife doesn't know about their plans because he climbs out of the first floor window. He suddenly falls down and limps the rest of the way to the car..2) 43 min. Day Three: Rick and Fred finally start to put some effort in their pick-up attempts and are standing in front of a hip club. At first, the doorman doesn't want to let them in, however, they bribe him with 50 dollars. Still, he thinks that he might lose his job if he lets them go inside. The camera then cuts to Rick, Fred, and the doorman (who just lost his job) as they all eat a hot dog. =)3) 47 min. Day Five: Rick has lunch and leaves a message on his wife's voicemail inbox. He says that he misses her and the kids. Then, the waitress brings him a free dessert made by the cookee. Rick looks around for her but suddenly, the cookee says that the dessert was meant for the other blond guy the cookee apparently has the hots for. Rick looks sad. Cut to the office. Rick tries some online dating but again doesn't really succeed. Fred thinks that it's not the best idea to use a photo that shows Rick with his wife and family. Suddenly, Fred comes up with an idea that is to backfire later on. Apparently, they can't make strange women like them enough to sleep with them, so they should try to hit on women they already know. Subsequently he visits one of his old friends - Missy - and brings her some Greek food to break the ice; he does that because he rememered that her last name had a Greek origin. Too bad that it was her ex-husband's name. Fred explains her how his vacation week from his marraige works and hopes to be able to sleep with Missy. However, she's not really satisfied with his clumsy hit on and slams the door in front of him. Fred is frustrated and doesn't understand why she did this. Not too funny..4) 67 min. Day 6: Rick tries to impress Leigh (the hot blonde from the coffee shop) in the club by putting a huge snake around his neck. After a quick cut we see that this wasn't the best idea. This is the funniest additional scene, hands down..5) 68 min. Day 6: Rick dances on the bar without wearing a shirt. In the extended version he also breaks a glass.6) 69 min. Day 6: Rick's bill in the Club adds up to 1400 dollars because the drinks are unbelievably expensive. He tries to skip out on the tab but doesn't succeed.7) 69 min. Day 6: Rick shouts to the bartender that he shouldn't dare to put a tip on their bill. 8) 69 min. Day 6: During the scene transition the theatrical version instead shows the women's motel. All and all, nothing too much added that makes me want to just buy the combo pack with extended version..If you end up with just the theatrical version, I'd say your just fine and are not missing much. Hope it's been helpful..Enjoy-Cam

There's a healthy dose of dirty talking, most of which purports to give voice to the way men really think - a great argument starter for those brave enough to consider this a date movie.

If you are the world's biggest fan of movies that bake adultery, family, self-esteem, and your true life's purpose into a cake frosted with d**k jokes, this is your film.

Hall Pass

"... definitely isn't a memorable comedy. The Farrelly brothers could have done better than this. All of the funny parts were pretty much just shown on the commercials. Hall Pass is simply a really pointless, stupid, unoriginal, and flat movie."

ooo, a turd gun

in an era of burgeoning comedic genius, this is and pair of wrinkledtestes floating in a bowl of warm corona light. uninspired anddisastrous. everyone involved should be embarrassed. because i need 10lines for a review, i will talk about something better than this"movie". like being cut with a belt sander, rubbing a homeless man'sfeet, diarrhea Popsicles, very small parachutes, foot binding, waterboarding, being stranded in a life raft in the middle of the Atlantic, being clawed in the anus by a bear. and that is about it. I'm sure somepeople think its really funny. but its not. if you think I'm way offwatch it and tell me. but then you will look really dumb.

Doesn't live up to the Farrelly Brother's glory days but it's still a pretty funny and effective comedy.

'HALL PASS': Three and a Half Stars (Out of Five) The Farrelly Brothers are well past their prime. Now in their 50's,they're much older than when they first broke on the scene with 'DUMB &DUMBER' seventeen years ago and had their biggest box office hit in'THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY' thirteen years ago. They've lost some oftheir edge over the years, as well as originality, and now they'vedisguised this well intentioned tribute to the values of love andmarriage as a guys gone wild party film. They're films have always hadheart though and this film still has plenty of dick and fart jokes. Thetrailers may be misleading and it may not live up to their best filmsbut it's a decent comedy flick with enough good laughs to please mostFarrelly fans. The film stars Owen Wilson (who's past his prime as well) and JasonSudeikis (of 'SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE' fame) as two married men who aregiven a week pass to pretend like their not married and sleep with asmany girls as they want. Their wives, played by Jenna Fischer (of 'THEOFFICE') and Christina Applegate, think that if they let their sexobsessed husbands get it out of their system their marriages might bebetter off because of it. They also realize, as the men do not, thatthey're not the guys they used to be and will most likely fail atpicking up the young hot girls they think they can get (and it'sdefinitely a challenge for them). Things get complicated when the womenare hit on by other men while their husbands are out trying to get laidby other women. The film is directed by Peter and Bobby Farrelly and written by the twoas well as Kevin Barnett and Pete Jones (who the Farrelly Brotherspurchased the original script from back in 2005). Pete Jones was thefirst winner of the Project Greenlight film project and his filmsbefore this have both been religious themed. So it's no surprise thatthe film has a very pro-marriage conservative message. I personallyliked the theme of the movie and the characters and about half thejokes. Some jokes of course fall flat and some of the emotional dramais a little over done as well. Of course parts of the film are over thetop but that's to be expected. Wilson and especially Sudeikis are greatin the leads and the supporting cast is all impressive as well(including Richard Jenkins, Stephen Merchant and the beautiful NickyWhelan). It's not quite as hilarious as the films from the FarrellyBrother's glory days but it's still a pretty funny and effectivecomedy.Watch our review show 'MOVIE TALK' at:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j95Zjdlcbe0
