Sidney Prescott, now the author of a self-help book, returns home to Woodsboro on the last stop of her book tour. There she reconnects with Sheriff Dewey and Gale, who are now married, as well as her cousin Jill and her Aunt Kate. Unfortunately, Sidneys appearance also brings about the return of Ghostface, putting Sidney, Gale, and Dewey, along with Jill, her friends, and the whole town of Woodsboro in danger.

i thought for an hour and 10 minutes scream 4 was actually better thenthem all, until the end the finally 30 minutes. I mean 2 killers again?and i seen one of the killers a mile away,Jill was the exception.Shedid well but i thought roman in scream 3 had a better twist than JillSidney cousin being the killer here.My big gripe about this film isletting the original 3 from scream all survive again,I thought at leastgale should have died, and stabbed more than once, waited 11 years, i waswaiting for something huge like that 2 happen just never did.but 8 outof 10,could been 9 out of 10 if one of the main cast was killed.I guessthe twist at the end of 3,not scream 3 the movie itself is the besttwist of them all because remember roman was the one who started itall.

Fun and forgettable, Scream 4 is simply another piece of popcorn in the sequel snack pack.

I came to the theaters with anxiety and excitement. I saw the ratingsis as good as the first. So, i watched it. All the peoples in thetheater were screaming and laughing, and i was having a jolly goodtime. It's not exactly what i expected yet it's so much entertainingthan the previous one. While a new ghostface is on the loose, Sidney Prescott returns toWoodsboro for her book tour and as usual, meets her old friends Deweyand Gale (who's already married of course). She lives with her cousinshe never knew, Jill (Played by Emma Roberts) and her Aunt (played byMary McDonell). Things get worse when the person close to her is dyingone by one. Now, Sidney must face a new horror that is not going tostop. As always, the cast is still returning, with a newcomers like EmmaRoberts, Hayden Panettiere, Rory Culkin. I really love the script. Itmakes the characters really convincing.I love the opening sequence when it started as a movie-within-a-movie.It proofs that after 10 years it's still continuing the so-calledlegacy "Stab". The killings were much brutal. The ending... i'm not going to spoil it. But, i'll give you a hint. It's much longer than the proceeder. Some may say it's a drag. But, ithink it's ingenious. The weak link of this movie is the police. they didn't do anything muchwhen the situation are dangerous. Except Deputy Judy (Played by MarleyShelton). She is not what i expected, actually. If you want to enjoy this movie, don't take it too seriously. Justthink it as an entertaining movie and you'll find yourself enjoyed bythis movie.Overall, the movie was a great comeback with full of jolts and thrills. At first, i want to give it a 7. But, with that twisted ending, i'lladd a star. ****/***** (8 out of 10)

There is some fun here, but ultimately it's more self-satisfied than anything else.

So here we are again back with the returning cast of the Scream series, but is this a new fresh film much like the 1st one? Or another Scream 3with some upgrades? Truth is it's a bit of both in my opinion however let me start off bysaying I found this to be a REALLY fun film to watch something I didn'tfind in the 3rd one. This film for me is 2nd only to the original andis how the 3rd film should of been, in fact if this was the 3rd onethen the Scream trilogy would be one of my favourite horror trilogy's. That's not to say that this film isn't filled with flaws because itdefiantly does have some but I'll get to them soon enough first let'sfocus on the positives. Scream 4 has one of my favourite openings for a horror film, thisopening in my opinion is just as brilliant as the first one. The onlything it lacks is a brilliant performance like Drew's in the 1st, thegirls in this opening just give off the typical 2D slasher performanceof terrified hot teens. However thankfully it's not their performancethat sells the opening it's how the opening is constructed, and how Wesso cleverly spins the audience on themselves and then begins to reelthem in. The soundtrack in this film is awesome I loved the tracks right fromthe start when the title is displayed. Which brings me to reveal of theactual title, it's a wicked little thing just before we get the plotrolling. Rodger Jackson as Ghostface is brilliant as always but in this he'smore terrifying then ever before, you can hear some much more twistedvenom in his words this time around. I really liked the new cast of characters in this film, which surprisedme because I was certain before watching the movie that I was going tohate them. I've found that in recent slasher flicks I've seen I justcan't find a liking to any of the main characters which is important ifyou want your audience to feel a sense of urgency and worry duringscenes in which the killer attempts or is succeeding in killing them. A lot of the time the film made me laugh and jump which is sort of thefun of slashes that I think are missing and is what I loved about theoriginal. I did not see the twist coming until the very last minute it wasrevealed which means well done kept me guessing throughout the wholefilm another fun aspect I loved about the original. Now the flaws The main problem scream 4 has is that it forgets to do what made theoriginal so brilliant which is to be self aware, now that's not to saythat it doesn't completely, they mention how horror films have evolvedthrough the years commenting on things like Saw and the whole tortureporn aspect but that's about it. In one scene to try and get an idea ofwhat the killer might do next they ask two film buffs about the newrules of horror films, which they reply "modern audience have becomesavvy to the rules of the original". Thats it!? That's all your gonnatell us? They do state other things that add to the new rules but itdoesn't really show how they've evolved at all. People die in this film and yet their friends don't seem to care allthat much, a girl dies and and a few scenes later her friends are fineabout it. The film relies on the success of the 1st one a little toomuch and at times and forgets to be it's own film. some of thecharacters in this film feel out of place like they belong in a cartooninstead of a horror film. However most of the performances by are wellplayed especially by Neve Campbell There's a few loose ends that never get resolved as well but they'rehardly worth worrying about. Overall this is the best in the series 2nd to the original, it's fun,it's scary and jumpy and it's funny. Scram 4 is one of the best slahsrsI've seen in a while and also one of the most fun horror films inrecent years. It has flaws but with this much fun it's easy to overlook them.

There are so many characters and bit parts, with a mystery bathed in relentless red herrings and half-baked false scares that it turns Scre4m into an episode of Murder, She Wrote outfitted in a push-up bra designed for A cups and a bit too much bronzer.

the problem with this movie is that the dialogue is so flat where theprevious films were crammed with humor the script of Scream 4 iswitless. There are exchanges like, He: "I'm gonna go outside and see what I Can find! She: "Be Careful!"He: "I'm always careful!- - - orWife: Dewey can u promise me one thing? d arquette: what honey wife:get that bastard dammit! D arquette: I will honey, I love you! wife: Ilove you!the whole thing is just blah, the characters are the weakest of any ofthe franchise. What's poignant about the film is seeing all these actors so much oldercast opposite mostly quite provocative looking young people. All ofthem look OK in most of their shots but then there are a few in whichthey look really haggard and it's sad to see. the big killer's motive is pretty insipid. these things matter! itaffects the entertainment value vastly to have a dumbbutt script!

This was the first of the Scream franchise I watched and didn't reallyknow what to expect (I watched Scary Movie although that doesn't reallycount!) I thought that I would start of with Scream 4 because it isonly rated 15 whereas the other three are 18, I was expecting it to bea lot more gory and scary than it actually was. I attempted to watch itonce, before I really got into horror films and was scared s**tless. This one was good because as it was recent there were elements that Icould relate to. Like the previous ones it had great actors and a goodstory-line. I would say that this should be the last instalment as anymore would just drag it on too long and ruin what is special aboutthem. Overall Scream 4 is a thrilling movie that will keep you on theedge of your seat. I would give it a 9/10 and say it's OK for anyone13+

As a huge fan of the 'Scream' series, I walked into the midnightscreening excited yet nervous. This film could have been a hit or miss,a great addition to the series or a redundant, weak sequel. Ultimately,I enjoyed the film. The infamous opening sequence was hilarious, yetvery brutal. However, I was disappointed that the real Woodsborovictims part was so short. It seemed to last only 4 minutes, which didnot feel sufficient. The middle section of the film seemed to drag alittle bit, especially the introduction to the characters following theopening. Once again, a minor issue. Once, the murders start happening, the pace really begins to increase. My final overall complaint with themovie was that it was too comedic and self-referential. There's only acertain number of times you can throw in a clever one-liner or a popculture/horror film joke before it starts to get a bit annoying. Otherthan that, the film was a great experience as a die-hard fan. Theending was pure insanity, and did not end when I expected it to. 8/10

Who could forget the first time Drew Barrymore met her end after beinghunted down by ghost face in the original scream film some 15 yearsago. Its been a decade since scream underwhelmed everybody with itslacklustre third instalment and with a fourth on the way I wassceptical about how the fourth would go and how it would affect theintroduction to the review I would to write about it.In my second paragraph, I can now write about how much I enjoyed thefilm and how I can now use my summary in that Scream 4 (or Scre4m)was"great fun and I was pleasantly surprised". I can't begin to tell youhow true this statement is, the plot manages to weave a tidy littleknot of a mystery that comes to a surprising and comical climax. Thebody count is large, making killings in this instalment come thick andfast. Though with a reduced age rating, scream 4 is far more gruesomethan the previous threesome and a lot more in keeping with the currenthorror movie gore fest. To finish off the second paragraph of my reviewI will conclude that Scream manages to stick to its guns, but moderniseitself not unlike the remakes it satirises.Paragraph 3 contains scenes of critical nature. Now the film is pacedvery well, however there are a lot of characters to get through. Anddespite its self aware nature the two-dimensional characters are sounderplayed that its hard to feel much for them as they quickly getstabbed to death. The only characters you feel much dread for is Gale,Dewey and Sidney as familiar faces that you don't want to meet therebloody doom, however the new cast have so little characterisation thatyou really couldn't care less if their stabbed to death and left to dryon their parents lawns. The film also wasn't as scary as the originaland despite the "kids" knowing the rules of the horror movie they werestarring in they all seem to go outside to investigate a strange noisewhen they know they're all being hunted by a killer. Whether this isdone on purpose, as to mock other horror films is a possibility, but tobe honest it would make the film a lot less predictable if they didn'tmake there predecessors mistakes. So my conclusion is gonna be as sharp and concise as a horror movieshould be. Scream 4 is entertaining, funny and thrilling. And one ofthe last lines of one of the survivors is bloody great.

Even if you're a fan, you can feel the franchise fatigue setting in.
David Medsker 10 May 2012
It's not perfect, but it's good, scary fun, a fourth installment that any franchise would be proud to call its own.

Or Scre4m.In Scream 4, we meet new characters, re-connect with old ones, andwatch the new ones die.The movie features Neve Campbell, David Arquette, Courtney Cox as thereturning characters. And Anna Paquin, Kristen Bell, Hayden Panettiere,Emma Roberts, Rory Culkin, and Anthony Anderson are introduced. The killer in Scream 4 is copying (or remake, rebooting) the originalStab. Or as we know it, the original Scream. The movie has a lot of throwbacks to the original, a lot of referencesto the original and other horror franchises that have been remade, rebooted, or just go on forever. You may be surprised with the end, if you didn't read the script orlook for spoilers. I was very surprised. If you loved the original Scream and/or the sequels, you'll love this.If you just loved the original, you'll love this. If you haven't seenthe Scream movies, you'll probably like this. If you hated the Screammovies. Don't bother. Go watch your Scary Movie 4-pack and leave.

The first movie of the series will always be my favorite no matterwhat. Scream was new and brought back the slasher film genre. With thetwo other sequels not so much. It soon to become a parody of itself andbecame predictable. Now with the 4th installment while impressed, thefilm did have a lot of flaws.Pros: The main 3 cast members of the first 3 films are back. The filmsatirizes different genres of horror. Some of the new characters arerefreshing. The ghost face killer is a well kept mystery until the end. There is no possible way you can find out who the killer is.Cons: The killings were meh. The ending went on too long for me. Thecops were useless. David (Dewey) can't act. The over analyzing of theplot gets annoying at times and contradicts itself very often. Theopening sequence was also annoying (we get the joke and start themovie). Most of the jokes fall flat.Overall it was a good 4th installment in this series and I hope it isthe last.

OK, so SCRE4M isn't nearly as good as the original, but I could easilycall it the best sequel of the series. What Scream did to the minds ofaudiences in 1996, SCRE4M does to the likely more sophisticated andsavvy minds of 2011Ânot that people were stupid in '96, they justhadn't seen what Scream brought to the table, yet. If you liked all ofthe Screams so far, this one is for you. If you haven't seen the firstthree, it's probably best you check them out before you see this one,but not overly necessary. I recommend it to anyone who likes a scare, and a good murder mystery. I give this one an 8/10.*OK, IF YOU DON'T WANT THE MOVIE SPOILED, STOP READING, NOW* *FINALWARNING* *OK, THEN* SCRE4M truly brings the series into the 21stCentury with all the mass comm. tech. we have right now, and uses everybit of it. Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson did a phenomenal job ofkeeping the audience on their toes. Only right before the big surpriseat the end did I figure it out, and that's saying something...usually.The big surprise at the end brings to light certain social issues thatare prevalent in today's society. Issues like everyone wanting to befamous instead of make a living and privacy becoming harder and harderto find. With cameras, phones, Internet and other mass. comm. deviceswe all have, the curtains have been drawn, and there you are for thewhole world to see. The film is well-casted, well acted, well-shot andwell...not as scary. It's more of a action thriller with a twist ofhorror, another "who done it" murder mystery like the first three. Butin today's world of Saw, Hostel, The Ring and Paranormal Activity beingconsidered horror, this film is made out to be more of an actionthriller. I went into this film thinking I was going to see another badsequel. I was just going to see how my favorite characters are sincethe last time I saw them 11 years ago. They've aged a bit, moved up anddown in the world since last we saw them, and even had some work done, but they're still there. Excellent work Kevin and Wes as well as theentire cast and crew. You get my approval and recommendation. 8/10

Scream 4? More like a wheeze.
ryan-vega83 04 May 2012
Scream 4 was better than I expected; however, it was still lacking andleft me desiring more. The tongue-in-cheek, self-deprecatinghorror-genre-poking jokes that made the Scream franchise great arestill in place and have been updated to reflect technological upgradesand recent horror movies. Unfortunately, the film still falls shortbecause it focuses on these cheap jokes at the expense of a wellcrafted story, ala Scream 1. Although I was not expecting a trulyterrifying experience, I was still hoping the movie would contain thetension, pacing, and atmosphere of the original. Sadly, I do notbelieve there should be a Scream 5 and if there is, I fear it will befar worse than the second, third, and fourth installments. The worstpart of a horror movie franchise is that you can never top the firstfilm when it was so fresh and ground-breaking. My humble advice for WesCraven and Dimension Films is to create a new horror story for us tolove.
Tim Brayton 04 May 2012
It is better than Scream 3, but so are most things... I, personally, cannot recall the last time a film insisted on its own pointlessness with quite this much ferocity.
John Beifuss 02 May 2012
The 'meta' cleverness of what may be the talkiest slasher film ever made may annoy viewers who prefer their scares straight, but the movie works as both a well-cast horror-comedy and a multiple-suspects mystery thriller...
insomniac_rod 01 May 2012
Oh, I think I've lived the same situation! In 1996 Wes Craven made ahorror movie that borrowed 80's slashers clichés and glued themtogether with a slight touch of 90's and it spawned many clones, sequels, and started a new era in horror. With "Scream 4" Craven takes the most popular elements of Horror in thenew millennium and intends to reboot the franchise. First, the movietalks about remakes, "torture porn" (hate that term!), sequels, andmore. "Scream 4" is an almost remake of "Scream" but with more black humorand gore. Sure, there are plenty of moments that remind us that Cravendoes no longer cares about suspense and mystery, but still this is asolid Horror effort. The "whodunnit?" aspect is not that interesting and doesn't workperfectly as a twist but still delivers expectations. The gore is great I must add. Ghostface is very angry. The acting wasokay and I thank Craven for having such beautiful woman like Paquin,Bell, Campbell, Roberts, Pannettiere, etc. P.S. I liked the Kirby character because she was a horror freak. Wherecan I meet a chick like her?!
