Won't watch Janene Garofolo

I can't dissociate Garofolo's radical socialist agenda from hercharacter in Criminal Minds. Despite my enjoyment of Criminal Minds, Iwill not watch this show. Regrettably, she suits CBS well. Garofalo actually called Party-goers "a bunch of teabagging rednecks,"adding "this is about hating a black man in the White House. This isracism straight up." Read more: http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2009/04/16/garofalo-tea-partiers-are-all-racists-who-hate-black-president#ixzz1IE27YqspIt's obvious to anybody who has eyes in this country that tea-baggers,the 9-12ers, these separatist groups that pretend that it's aboutpolicy – they are clearly white-identity movements. They're clearlywhite power movements. What they don't like about the President is thathe's black – or half black (applause) – and they, what also is shockingis that people keep pretending that that's not really the case withthese people.

Disappointing to say the least

I'm not sure why they made this show. There really isn't anything thatI can see to distinguish their purpose from the original. Are therereally red cells in the FBI? Is this sort of Delta Force BAU? A RapidDeployment BAU? Huh? Whitaker has done and can do much better than thejob he does here. At times he seems totally disinterested. At othertimes he just looks like a slob.Garofalo just looks like an angry toad and really can't act.Why is there an Irish (I guess Matt Ryan is Welsh) guy on the team?Hearing the accent is disorienting. I assume there is no reason anaturalized citizen couldn't be in the FBI but it seems out of place.Beau Garrett seems to be largely eye candy - I'm not opposed to thatbut she doesn't seem to have much of a role.I know that it's trying to find it's feet. Whitaker gives the show somehope since he can be quite a good actor but there doesn't seem to muchof a reason for this to exist next to the original.

ridenslide65 16 May 2012

No thanks

Janeane Garafolo in any show is the death knell. She simply can't act.Forest Whitaker? Does he have more than one emotion? Was good in TheShield but is terribly boring here. This show is another attempt tospin off another very good show and falls short on so many levels. Doyourself a favor and skip it. While the show has a good premise, thereis little new here.None of the characters "engages" you like a show of this type so badlyneeds. I couldn't care less about Garafolo and Whitaker's schtick isgetting old.Look for something else to occupy your time. Like solitaire.

Not understanding the hatred......

Personally, I find the show quite good. I do have a few issues, however. Forest Whitaker is a wonderful actor, but not as a lead rolein a television series. He's extremely distracting - and it's notbecause of the eye. It's his voice. He constantly sounds like he's outof breath...ran a marathon to get to the scene. His sentence structureis also annoying. He pauses in odd places and the whole dialog soundsforced. I was excited when I heard he was going to be on the show, butnow...he's just annoying! There's too much time spent on him and notthe rest of the team, which doesn't make a balanced show. I realizeit's early though, so hopefully, the characters will flesh out more aswe go along.Secondly, Janeane Garofalo - I don't understand the hatred of the womanand the character. I personally love her. I think she's still trying tofind her feet with the character, but she's got the potential of beingquite amusing...of being the one person on the team who will just sayexactly what she thinks when she thinks it. I really like her and I'mwilling to give her a chance to settle in the role.As for the rest of the team, I like all of them. I'd like to see moreabout Prophet's past - Michael Kelly makes Prophet such a quiet, interesting character. Beau Garret is perfect for the role of Gina -she's got that no nonsense look about her - hair stuffed in a ponytail, little makeup. She really sells Gina as the real deal. And lastly, Matt Ryan as Mick Rawson. At first, I was put off because aBrit joining the FBI seemed like something created just for the show. Iadmit my ignorance in this matter - I didn't even know British citizenscould join the FBI...although maybe he's a naturalized citizen. I don'tknow, but I have to say I really, really, really like the character. He's cocky, cheeky and interesting. He's also gorgeous, which doesn'thurt. His accent isn't hard for me to understand, but I've heard lotsof Irish, Scottish and British. So, Mick is a nice all around packagefor me.Poor Garcia...she just seems like a fill in...she's there so theviewers have someone they know and love and the producers knew thatthose fans will follow her to a new show. I'd like to see her actuallyinteract with the team, not just via communication equipment. So, I give the show an 7 out of 10 and hope that it just keeps gettingbetter and better. Thanks for listening!!Frost

complete crap WOW - 10

wow does this show miss the mark! Whiticur is got 2 go his movies r badand so is this.Needs 2 b more like the original that show is great alli can say is replace most of the cast!!!!!! the acting is awful gave 1star because i couldn't give it 0 or -10 . How hard can it be to copiethe original with a few changes to make it its own like ncis la theypulled that off nice. The concept is good a spin off i like that i wouldwatch it but they have to scrap what they got and start over. The mainman looks like he had a stroke and while your at it fire a few writerstoo plots are weak.I don't know what more i can say the show wont makeit to bad you all need to step up and give a better effort .

Disappointing

I must say I am not one of those who admired Forest Withaker in thefirst place, but I always look at every new series or movie with neweyes, giving everyone a new chance; as I have experienced many timesthat actors I normally don't like, suddenly gives a great performance.-However, this is not the case with Forest in Suspect Behaviour; Thecharacter he plays is simply very stressful, and annoying: he talks ina way that is difficult to follow, sort of throws you out of yourconcentration, demanding to much focus just to simply understand him,and requiring a lot of patience that takes away the opportunity toenjoy the story and everything else that is going on. He demands tomuch, simply but, and is not believable as an agent. The show would memediocre/OK if his character was more easygoing, and in tune with hisenvironment. -Everything would be different, if he had a completelydifferent body language, and spoke with normal rhythm. So.. the personwho probably was suppose to draw the most viewers, I'm guessing will bethe one who pushes them away instead. Either he goes, or has a completemakeover, or the show will be short-lived; that is my guess, at least!Criminal Minds original is probably the most believable, ingenious showever made in its category; a tough act to follow!

Good Show, Love It!!!!.

OK so first things first, I read the other reviews and I have to saysomething, if you haven't watched enough of the show to know the namesof the characters then you haven't seen enough of it to write a properreview. There were even people saying that they hate it because of oneof the actors without even watching a single episode. That iscompletely ridiculous. It wasn't a bad show, in fact I quite liked it.There was a good cast and the characters were starting to bebelievable, there were also back stories starting to slowly unfold, ittook a while for them to in the original Criminal Minds too, you didn'tget a good look into some of the characters until the end of the secondseason. People shouldn't compare it to the original because it's notlike it. I hate that people can be so closed minded that theyautomatically start "Hating" things because they're not carbon copiesof the originals. They canceled the show and now we don't get to findout who was shot and or killed at the end of the last episode. (P.S.for those who couldn't understand Coup because of the slight slurring,or Mick's accent you are one or both of the following, either yourgoing deaf or your just plain stupid, I'm terrible at understandingaccents and I got everything just fine. I'm assuming that those whodidn't also had trouble understanding every single person in HarryPotter, because a lot of those accents where stronger than Mick's.).

It has a ton of potential, people just need to see that.

The mind of the Serial Killer is a complicated one. And we cannotforget that this is what these shows are about. While Criminal Minds isprobably one of the most intriguing and well organized series outthere, we have to remember way back to the first couple of episodes.I've done some soul searching as of late and have re-watched the firstcouple episodes of the first season of Criminal Minds. I've come to theconclusion that while the subject matter of Criminal Minds wasinteresting, I was just thrown into the characters in the first season.I knew little to nothing about them, but slowly, I was given littlebits and pieces. And then we got the second season and BAM, there werethe characters we care so much about now. With this being said, Suspect Behavior has aired a grand total of 9episodes. How can so many people come to hate a TV show so much in 9episodes? And I can tell you why. It's because Suspect Behavior is notthe original. And you know what, I'm completely fine with that. I wanta change in scenery every once and a while, and Suspect Behavior hasdifferent characters that tackle the same subject matter. And that'scool. So I'll be honest with you. Forest Whitaker as Unit Chief Sam Cooperfreaked me out at first. I couldn't watch him on screen. But as timewent by, the producers/writers toned him down a bit and figured out howto film him. And I've come to actually like Sam Cooper. He seems to melike the father of a very diverse family, and there is this air ofmystery about him, about how his team seems to respect him greatlywithout much proof of why. And I kind of like not knowing. So who caresabout his eye? I think it gives him more character, makes him seem moreoff kilter.Apparently Janeane Garofalo is not liked by many. Personally, I don'tcare what an actor has done in the past. I just focus on what theybring to the character they're playing now. But we love, and I meanLOVE, judging and stereotyping actors on their previous roles. Example:Daniel Radcliff will always be Harry Potter. But regardless of what Garofalo has done in the past I love theemotional depth that she brings to SSA Beth Griffith. There is thisstrong woman who has been kicked off one to many teams because of herstubborn personality. Her unwillingness to not be heard. But there isalso this woman who knows that she is alone in the world. And knowingthat, yet still functioning, is such a bittersweet tragedy. The lastmoments of 'Jane' were truly sad ones.I have not had much experience with Matt Ryan, Michael Kelly, and BeauGarrett, and that's the way I like it.First off, Matt Ryan as the ex-British Special Forces sniper turned SSAMick Rawson brings experience to the team. He is the tactical expert. The typical arrogant man who is good at his job. But Mick is different. While being fully aware that he is an excellent sniper, he hates whatthat categorizes him as. He does not want to be alone for the rest ofhis life, and there's a vulnerability buried deep down.I don't know where to put Michael Kelly as SSA John "Prophet" Simms. While his is an interesting background, he seemed to go through acharacter shift from the back door pilot/first episode to the others. He seems less angry at the world and more composed. And while alldescriptions of his character lead him to be a religious man, we havenot seen to much of that proved besides with his nick name. So I hopethere is an episode down the road that will focus on that, because Ithink it has potential. Then we are brought to Beau Garrett as SSA Gina LaSalle, who is quitepossibly the most believable character on this show. Her area ofexpertise is the actual behavior of people, which is kind of ironicbecause all of the characters have to be good at this, but she seems tohave an extra edge, especially when it comes to families. Which bringsme to think that she had a broken family/childhood. There are alwaysthese long stares at the children of victims that has so much longingit makes me kind of sad. But that's about all that we know about her.Which is driving me insane. So you hear that producers! Give me moreGina LaSalle please! So all in all, there is a good solid structure fora decent show. The characters aren't too developed yet, but that'sbecause they're only a couple episodes in. And I think Suspect behaviorhas done it's job because I want to know more. They've stirred thecuriosity in me. And as a freshman show, that's what you want to do.

Zero chance of a second season

I was looking forward to this show for months, I assumed with ForrestWhitaker at the helm then the producers meant business and intended togive us a real alternative to criminal minds. How wrong i was !!!! Thisshow is at best mediocre, The casting is all wrong..In fact! Thecasting director should never work again. This show is bad beyond badand so disappointing. As great an actor as Forrest Whittaker is he isso unbelievable in this role, As for the rest of the cast , Why oh why???? This was a great opportunity for a show and they have not onlymessed it up then have messed it up beyond all realms of messing up. Ifthere is an award for the worst ever put together show then this showwould sweep the awards. I am so disappointed as i had so much hope andi even gave it a chance, The first couple of episodes were terrible buti thought it may get better! , I have now completed watching episode 5and i realise that its never going to get any better. In summary, Poorwriting and very poor casting = very poor show, Hell, They could add AlPacino and Sean Penn to the next episode and its never going to savethis dead duck. What a waste!!! Shame on the People responsible.

LOVE(d) the Show

We used to LOVE Criminal Minds until they decided to bring on politicalactivist Janeane Garofalo. We loved how each "team" member actuallyloved the others. As though they were family. The always put the otherteam member ahead of themselves. What a great concept that was. It alsotaught us what TO DO and what NOT to do (to stay safe). Valuableinformation for sure. But alas, they brought Janeane on and we had towalk away. I just wish Hollywood would just DO what they're paid to do,ACT. I don't care where they stand on this issue or that issue. But IDO care when they begin airing their racist views to any talking headwho will give them air time. CRIMINAL MINDS. Too bad. It WAS a greatshow !!!

Garofalo must Go

Suspect Behavior it a great take on the criminal minds franchiseoffering a unique perspective on the cases. I also love that Garcia isin both series. I really like Forrest Whitaker and the othercharacters/actors are good and can really grow in their parts, howeverGarofalo stopped growing at 4'3 and would not fool anyone as a FBIagent. The acting is also terrible and so robotic that we could have anAvatar do her part (that could be 6 foot tall!) For the show to succeedand be truly realistic, as you are trying to match the very successfulCriminal Minds, you need credible looking and acting people. Garofalois neither.

Needs Work - and Script - and Cast

I gave the show enough chances. The '3 star' rating is down to '0' andany hope of improvement has dwindled to nothing. What happened to theFBI – why is Whitaker the only one with answers? It almost seems likethe only reason the other agents are there, is to say stuff like, 'WOW,you are too smart' – and then go wandering off bumping into walls ortripping over air. What a joke? I know the FBI is smarter than what isportrayed on this show. And talk about team…communicate maybe? There isno team cohesion, and for that matter, no flow to the show either. Imean - it seems like Whitaker walks into a meeting room and the rest ofthe crew act like newborn baby chicks waiting to get a piece of somepre-chewed worm from momma bird. After the team congratulates Whitakerfor being too smart, they wander around – kind of aimlessly – and beginthe wait. Oops – there is one who does not need to wait. One who needsno direction or instruction. There is one who is never wrong (sited onlast week's show) - and that would be the character played by JeanineGarafalo. She is one of the most painful characters on TV. Talk about apermanent mood swing! That is one girl full of anger and hate.Previously I did try to be nice to the show. I thought I saw a glimmerof light shimmering through the new TV series fog. I wished there wassome hope for the show – but there seems to be none. Now it is only arace to the edge of the cliff between the original Criminal Minds andthis one, and I feel this one will find the bottom of the chasm first.I do not know what possessed the producers and directors to hire such apolitically charged hot potato as Garafalo, but she does provide somecover. When the show fails – she only needs to pound her chest andblame Bush and then – magically - all problems go away.

Don't look for wit of origonal here

Crimonal Minds is a great show, maybe not so great as of late, what hasbeen great and still has potential, but I don't buy into the whole lawand order effect. That is that not all good shows need a spin off. WhenI started watching this show, I hated it, I couldn't find any of thecharacters that interesting, and the plots seemed to be dumbed downversions of CM episodes in seasons 3, 4, and 5. As it kept going, Ihave grown to like it a bit more, and the characters have become betterdeveloped, but it is still not all that great. One of my peeves is Penelope. I never liked her in the first CMinstallment, she was too bright and flashy, and her character had aboutthe same depth as a ground-level fountain. If you want a big change forthat, you won't get it here, though you might wonder where the hell shehas the time to coordinate between two teams. As for the othercharacters, none really stand out, Prophet is over aggressive and seemsto have a massive chip on his soulder, the British guy is, well,British, The Black haired lady is a bit stuck up and hostile towardseveryone, and Gina just seems to be the insecure blond who knows thatshe really isn't as talented as the rest. Sam Cooper is nothing towrite home about either. The problem isn't that these characters areuninteresting, but that they are essentially clones of CM characters(Black-haired lady could be Hotch, Brit Guy Prentiss and Morgan, Cooperis a bit Gidean and a bit Rossi, and Gina is almost a clone of Seaver),so they took out Reid and called it good. And okay, I didn't reallyexpect much else, which is why I gave it a sevon, same with the L&Ofranchise, they stick to the same characters. As for the plot, while later episodes show some promise, other thenthem being more gritty then most CM episodes, the plots are the same:bad guy commits crime, normally murder, and good guys go after them.Okay. They took out some of the more character-driven plot from theorigonal series, and again, okay, good that they didn't stick to thesame formula. The fact is that the plots alone are just not worthwatching right now, I mean, there is no real difforence between thecaseloads, and really, it just becomes average fare pretty quictly.Yes, some are interesting, but not enough to set the whole show apart. In conclusion, this show is good if you want a Crimonal Minds withoutthe strong character building parts of it, and if you just want a quickfix of bad guy gets cought action. Nothing really sticks out about it,but it is on an upword spike, so who knows. Had I reviewed this afterthe first episode, I would have given it a 2 or 3, so yes, it hasimproved, it just isn't as good as the origonal.

ZZZzzzzzzzzz.......

One of the worst shows I've seen in a long time. Like most people, Idecided to watch it on the back of how much I love the originalCriminal Minds. I gave it a couple of chances because of this. Alas, Ihave now conceded that it's not getting any better. The plot is notclever, thrilling or exciting. Garcia (from the original) is in it, butthere's none of the banter between her and the team that there is inthe original. It's almost as if they hate her babbling on. There's alsosome random Welsh guy in it? Not sure why he's there? I just find himannoying anyway. However my main issue with the series is Forest Whitaker. He isabsolutely dire in it. Partially I think I hate him so much because Iknow him from so many other roles, I just keep thinking "there's thatpsycho stalker from ER"! I just don't find him believable at all. In myopinion they should have got a neutral, unknown actor to play the lead.I really, really hate his acting in this too. He plays it WAY toointense. Someone will ask him something trivial and he'll practicallybreak down crying giving his answer. I find myself tuning out when he'smid sentence.Absolute snoreathon. I won't be wasting anymore time on it anyway!

Like the Original... on Fast Forward

Watching this is like watching the original Criminal Minds on fastforward. Everything moves at warp speed. One of the things I likedabout the original--the science--is totally absent. The worst aspect is the ridiculous conclusions the characters jump to,which since this is TV are never wrong. Just because someone putseyeballs on top of a stack of newspapers isn't a good enough reason toassume that one lousy obituary in that issue is relevant. "Oh, this guyhad surgery at the same hospital three weeks ago and he died from aStaph infection. These cases have to be connected!" Give me a break. Not everyone who watches is seven years old.Forest Whitaker's acting and dialogue are wooden and dull. Hischaracter has no character. What the heck is he supposed to be? The show is somewhat entertaining in its own right, but it can't hold acandle to the original Criminal Minds.

p w 29 April 2012

Quite a letdown.

I watched this first episode with some hopeful anticipation. The storywas stereotypical of this type of show....a kidnapped child, a pervertand the "heros". We have seen this plot so many times on Law and Orderspin-offs and the ending was also to be expected. In case anyone hasn'twatched it yet, I will not reveal the ending. I was reallydisappointed. This spin-off doesn't have the pizazz of the original. While Forest Whittaker is an excellent actor - this part isn't for him.In fact the entire cast was pretty bad. Apart from Penelope, they don'tseem to have the professionalism, intelligence or looks that theircounterparts do in Criminal Minds. I hate to be so negative, but theirappearance, clothing, speaking style etc.....just doesn't work. AnEnglish accent is totally out of character for the FBI. Iwill not watchit again. It was indeed a flop.

paddy0192 26 April 2012

Not a bad start

I liked it ... If you watch the pilot and first season of L&O SVU,which is also a spin off show, it was very poor. But the producersidentified what (and who) worked and what didn't and by the secondseason fixed it and most people would now say that the show is betterthan the original. It's always the case with spin off shows, they arevery difficult to get off the ground because people can't let go of theoriginal and are reluctant to accept and get comfortable with newcharacters in the world, created by the "mother ship". Even in theoriginal show new characters are hard to integrate when they are thereplacement of a former character when Rachel Nichols came in to fillA.J Cook's position she wasn't greeted with open arms by the shows fanbase even though she is a great actress and plays her role very well. But after one episode of CM:SB I would say there is room forimprovement but on the whole, if you can forget about Hotch, Reid andthe rest of th BAU and try to view it as just another drama series thenyou'll enjoy it a lot more.

alanrhart 26 April 2012

A poor imitation of the original

Forest Whitaker needs to either sober up or get some speech therapy sowe can understand what he says. If it weren't for captioning, hisdialog would be almost unintelligible. His speech reminds me of formerD.C. Mayor Marion Barry. As with the original Criminal Minds, the"unsubs" are becoming more and more brutal and sadistic. This isabsolutely NOT a program for minors, or the faint of heart. Also aswith the original, we usually don't find out the eventual fate ofunsubs who are captured alive. We're left to speculate whether they goto prison, a mental hospital, or if some slimy lawyer gets themreleased on a technicality.

c_midkiff 25 April 2012

I like the original but will not watch this spin-off

I am a fan of the original Criminal Minds but have found this spin offa huge disappointment. I have tried to stomach Garofalo up until now. Inot only dislike her as an individual, but her acting is awful as well. The last episode on Christian Terrorism was just too political andoffensive and was the last straw. I wonder if this show will ever do anepisode on Islamic terrorism.... I seriously doubt it. I refuse to watch this show anymore, at least until Garofalo isremoved. She is too polarizing and never should have been given a rolein this series if the producers wanted to appeal to all potentialviewers.

sagebrush-9 25 April 2012

So, so disappointing

Criminal Minds (the original) is probably my favorite show on TV now,so when I first saw there was going to be a spin-off, I was so excited. And then I saw the cast. I was already put off when I saw ForestWhittaker as the lead, and then I noticed Jeneane Garofalo as well, andmy suspicions for the show being a dud ramped way up. I watched, though, hoping that I would be wrong. I was, but only because Icouldn't guess just how bad it would be.Whittaker seems to slur his words a bit, making him a bit hard tounderstand, and even beyond that hasn't managed to create a credibleseeming character.Garofalo is just a seriously poor actress. She also manages to makethings seem political in a very off-putting way.Based on these two, the casting director should be fired and bannedfrom the industry. As a previous reviewer mentioned, another one of the characters isforeign with such a heavy accent that it's hard to follow what he'ssaying. And then there's the guy with the inflated bad apple given a new chancepast which also doesn't feel very believable.Garcia (a character I love in the original) seems to be part of thecast for no other reason than because the producers could tell alreadythey'd messed up with the rest of it and needed an already establishedand loved character to connect with the audience. Even this fails, though, because her scenes feel like inauthentic add-ons.We're left with one member of the team (the other girl) who feelssomewhat genuine, and unfortunately that's not enough to carry theshow.I also felt that the ultra-elite "red cells" premise was a bad idea, because it sets them up as being even better than the originalcharacters. The situations don't seem any more dire or complex thanthose for the original, so it fails at establishing even why there's aneed for a more specialized unit to deal with them, and the actors failat creating characters that even seem equal to, let alone more elite, than those in the original series. All in all, it is a thoroughly wasted opportunity to create a selfsustaining spin-off (like SVU was to Law & Order)... and because thisone will fail miserably, they likely won't ever end up trying again, let alone succeeding.
