A fun filled ride both kids and adults can enjoy. They certainlycouldn't copy the first film with location and story, so they had to goall out with the story in a new direction to keep things fresh andinteresting. Following the ever popular spy-thriller genre, for me,they succeeded - I love spy thrillers. What's next? Cars from Space?(haha - Carboys and Aliens).I saw this film in 3D, and Pixar never ceases to amaze me. Thelocations are beautiful, the story is good, and the humour is stillthere. Pixar sticks adult jokes or references in there that most kidswon't understand (like Mater in the washroom, or certain bondreferences), and locations I have been to recently (namely Paris) werea welcome sight for me to visit in the film. The only thing I can say for sure is that I don't think it will leavean impact as the first film did for me: Cars 1 was really my firstintroduction to Pixar, when I fell in love with their work. That filmblew me away, and I will never forget my experience watching it. Theonly thing new in this film for me was the scenery and the story. Butthat doesn't mean I enjoyed it any less.

To those who don't think it follows the storyline from the first movie.IN the first movie McQueen races 2nd movie McQueen races! Yes there arespies but this movie is wonderful and there are unexpected surprisesand yes it's different then normal Pixar movies but that's why is wasan excellent movie for me!!! It's a great film to see and unlike othermovies you don't really need to see the first Cars to understand thisone. If you want to better understand the relationship between Materand McQueen then yes watch the first movie but this movie washilarious, fun to watch, and even more a fun way to celebrate a friendsbirthday. If there's a movie you want to watch to see some action, comedy, and a minor bit of romance this is the movie to watch becauseit wonderfully executes all qualities of those 3 genres. I loved it andmy friend loved and when I heard that there were bad reviews I wasshocked, this is a movie to see this Summer.

If you're looking for another Pixar masterpiece, you'll won't find ithere. But if you are looking for a good time at a family movie thissummer, Pixar's "Cars 2" is just the ride, no matter which version yousee it in {3-D and 2-D}.In this sequel to the hit 2006 film, Mater mistakenly becomes a secretspy, while his friend Lighting Mcqueen rides in the World Grand Prix.Mater uncovers a plan to stop Allinol gasoline.Most of the voice cast is back, with some brand new characters. OwenWlison is good but a little underused as Lighting. Michael Caine andEmily Mortimer are both clever and smart respectively as two newcharacters,Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell. John Turturro is veryfunny as Lighting's newest rival, Francesco Bernoulli. But the movie'sreal star is Larry the Cable Guy as Mater. He steals the picture fromstart to finish.John Lasseter is back in the director's chair and he gives the pictureits magical, cool and dazzling vision. Ben Queen's script is smart andoutrageous. Michael Giacchino's hot score helps gives the film itsmagic touch.This movie is hip and cool as it gets. Together with a brand newremarkable short featuring the gang from "Toy Story 3", it makes it aperfect time at the movies for the whole family.My pick: Green light {See It}

Warning: This review was translated from Spanish electronically. Anymisunderstanding, please consult with me before. This review containsspoilers, it is recommended that before you read, watch the movie.Since creating the first commercial feature film entirely designed andcomputer-animated "Toy Story" in 1995, Pixar - Disney has beencharacterized for creating animated fantasy worlds using new techniquesof 3D animation. Their stories are everyday characters for our livesbut at the same time are transformed into unique characters, such astoys that never leaves you, a fish of a coral reef, a rat cook, a racecar, an ant, an old man a house fly with balloons, and innovativeimagined and created such characters as a series of monsters to scare(not scare), a compact robot that collects trash and a family ofsuperheroes. This time gave way to the second part of the race car"Lightning McQueen's" that or rather "who" in the first part was theprotagonist of a story which aired speed small a message about theimportance of friendship and humility. In this second part of Cars, therole of "Lightning McQueen" he eclipsed his best friend Mater a "TowTruck" who in the first half was like the actor. Despite the naivetyand stupidity of Mater, managed to confuse two British intelligenceofficers who mistook him for a spy and in turn recruited to completethe mission they were assigned. The two friends travel to Europe afterMcQueen Mater rolled in a global race against an Italian F-1car,organized by a guy who intends to commercialize a fuel alternativeto gasoline. Parts of the plot felt bored, because of the complexity ofthe circumstances presented, particularly felt I was seeing a chapterof "Chavo del 8" and the confusions, misunderstandings, assumptions andother entanglements, made the "stupid tow truck" enlisted with secretagents, apparently experts, and these have not been able to decipherthe true identity of Mater. Besides that, a secret agent was "a" lovelycar, which end is known as the girlfriend of Mater. Mater, performedthe tasks most spectacular in its "life" would have dreamed of, such asflying on a parachute powered by rockets installed deceive a stack of"Mafia", among others. Leaving the main character, "Lightning McQueen"as a simple race car. Another small detail was that he played downSally, Lightning McQueen's girlfriend, who only came at the beginningand end of the film. The film is for children, but the plot ispresented can be confusing and complex even for an adult. It is assumedthat these movies are for fun and laugh as dwarf the duration of themovie, enjoy a stay with good animation and a message. However I felt Ihad to decipher a series of paradoxes, remember the key issues anddealing with assumptions. Moreover, the Pixar animation is pretty goodand the level of detail in backgrounds, lights, shadows and textures issublime, it highlights many European landscapes such as Paris, Londonand the Italian Riviera. The characters are excellent, and nowintroduced an antagonist, which is not allowed to reveal until the endof the film, adding some excitement to the poor plot. Latin SpanishDubbing is very good although a bit colloquial idioms that are used inMexico. Thanks to Pixar for the film, but the story did not meet myexpectations, a score of 10 on IMDb I put the first, the second under7. No doubt the animated film produced by Pixar Animation Studios, myleast liked, the story and plot. But I give the title of "PopcornSunday."

I was actually looking forward to seeing this movie after watching thefirst Cars movie at least 25 times. My wife and I brought our 2 yearold son to the theater yesterday. The movie looked promising during thefirst 10 minutes, but it quickly fell apart after they went on theirworld racing tour. I was really hoping that Owen Wilson's characterwould have more of a role in this movie, but he had very little time init. Just a few racing scenes. Our 2 year old was interested in it forthe first hour then he lost all interest whatsoever, and startedrunning up and down the theater, playing with the other children. So wedecided to leave the film about an hour and 15 minutes into it. Themovie is horrible and it is not even worth waiting for it to come outon DVD. My advise is to skip this movie and see something else.

John Lassiter violates his own mantra of "story first" in this "politically-correct" pandering to the anti-oil lobby (mostly California-based, I presume). I didn't mind (well, too much, anyway) the subtle anti-corporation message in Wall-E, but in Cars2 it was blatant. This is particularly ironic (and hypocritical) since Lassiter came up with the story line for Cars1 while taking an extended vacation with his family in an RV! Beyond the PC pandering, this movie was a flop since it had no "tears-in-the-eyes" moment (as did all of the other Pixar films - e.g., the scene in Cars1 when Lightning McQueen is leaving Radiator Springs after being outed by Doc Hudson - a real tear-jerker). Further, the movie was a flop because: (1) things moved by too quickly for one to appreciate all of the subtle background art and automotive-related references; and (2) there was too much potty humor (e.g., Mater leaking oil during an episode of excitement). This will be the first Pixar movie I do not buy on DVD. I hope Lassiter and George Clooney enjoyed the picture, because (based on the reviews) most of the rest of us did not!

Lightning McQueen and Mater return for another round of fun and thrillswith "Cars 2". The movie follows McQueen racing the world grand prix, while Mater signs as a secret spy. Okay, first off, on the positiveside, the movie was quite exciting and thrilling, and it was funwatching Mater make the audience laugh, while McQueen makes his famous"ka-chow" on the track. The characters were enjoying, and the amazingsights and sounds were impressive, and the spy story was kind ofinteresting. But on mixed thoughts, although enjoying the spy story, itmade the movie feel more like another James Bond movie, instead of aCars sequel, and it lost track of the movie's potential. And it lostcomplete focus on the movie's true heart of friendship and loyalty. ButI didn't mind on the mishap just one bit. Well, I thought the movie waspretty great, and had its way of entertainment, and this sequel neverdisappoints. Looks like the first "Cars" movie just brought a biggerand better piece of Pixar entertainment with their very own sequel."Cars 2", in my review, "impressively entertaining, and has itsmoments".

I don't like that my 6 year old son had to ask a number of times, "Is that car dead?" throughout this movie. I really bothered him that cars kept dying. I agree with the reviewers that state this movie is more for the older 8 and up crowd, it was just too much for my little guy to comprehend.

We went to see Cars 2 with my boys who are 6 years old. We all lovedthe first movie, it had a simple to follow, heart-warming story and NOVIOLENCE!!!This movie had TONS of violence, guns, "dead" cars, cars gettingbashed, burned, tortured. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!?!? Just because it wascars and not people did you think the kids wouldn't notice? It was avery hard to follow story for them. A full-on James Bond movie, withtwists and gadgets, except in animation and with cars instead ofhumans. My twins could not repeat the story back to us when asked afterward.Espionage, oil wars and the likes were lost on the younger audience. The violence was full-on. Even Mater, the plain, redneck, lovablecharacter was fitted with machine guns!! In fact the movie was more aMater movie than a Lightning McQueen movie. We see McQueen in very fewscenes compared. It more like a full feature Mater Tale than a sequelto the movie... plus it wasn't about racing at all but rather about oilwars.Very disappointing. My husband made a good point, he said it was as ifit was aimed to the 8 year old who watched the original 5 years ago andare now 13 years old. Certainly NOT aimed at young kids. If your kidsare very young and you do not approve of violence, beatings, killingsand guns DO NOT TAKE THEM. I wish someone had warned us, we wouldn'thave gone. I can't fathom what Pixar was thinking! I am now dreading Monsters INC2... it will most certainly be ... I don't know... full of blood andguts? That seems to be their next step...

My two young boys (ages 5 and 6) have been Cars fans for years. Needless to say, we had the opening night of Cars 2 on the calendar for months. We went opening weekend, and to say we were disappointed is the understatement of the year. The "Mator as a spy" premise, if done correctly, could have been great. But there was no substance, solid moral ending, or true story development -- what the movie did provide were multiple violent and disturbing scenes that scared both of my (normally brave) children. The whole thing was a heaping mess. Both of my children made comments about the level of violence, and complicated story. They may just be 5 and 6, but they know a bad movie when they see it. So disappointing, because they were both such fans of Lightening and Mator before.I don't know if Pixar has "lost their way" as some other reviewers have stated. But after watching this disaster, I think it's a real possibility. Our world is filled with enough real-life garbage (torture, bombs, and evil, greedy oil tycoons are frequently tv news topics). Must we subject our young children to this junk at the movie theatre?

Firstly lets all try to ignore the band wagon jumpers, shills for largecompanies and the paid to be haters this is an amazing movie. It tackles some adult issues and does so with style and aplomb, thereis a strong spy story vibe running through the film and it makes forquite an exciting action movie. All the people asking for a sequel for The Incredibles here it is, it'sjust called Cars 2.Pixar are clever people, they know fools love to flock to hate sothey've made a sequel to one of there most favourite stories and set itin the Cars universe, this reveals the fools from the dudes, anyonebemoaning this film as rubbish is an idiot, sure they deserve thereopinions but there opinions are wrong. 8)Ordinary people love to crow about perceived "failures" they also tendto be they type of fools to judge a movies success on it's bank, thistells you all you need to know about there love of cinema and how theysee success, like a banker or businessman, and whilst that's great ifthat is your job as a movie lover it sets you apart if your favouritepart of a film is it's box office.Ignore the drones, fools, haters, people who don't know better and thekiddy wanna bee's, this is a great movie from any studio, it being fromPixar just makes it even cooler.Start your engines.

It's a challenge to critique movies for which you are squarely notwithin the intended audience. It's part of the reason why I skippedJudy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer. While I'm sure we would have donewell to get in touch with our inner Heather Graham, we just didn'tthink it fair to toss a pair of bad grades at a movie aimed at littlegirls. We'd much prefer tugging on their pig-tails and saying they havecooties. That being said, Pixar has always presented itself as not onlythe superior animated movie product to beat, it typically producesfilms that are creatively accessible on multiple levels. In fact withinWall-E and Up there are segments of pretty high end pieces of cinema. So for that reason, we're reviewing Cars 2.Except it appears that this time something went wrong.Perhaps the creators were on a Hawaiian vacation much like Ken andBarbie enjoy during the throw-away Toy Story short that appears beforethe feature presentation. Yes, I know, I know. We should be so lucky toeven get cartoons before our movies. But I remember when these thingswere completely original shorts that were almost as buzz worthy as thereason why we were in the theatre to begin with. Disappointment sets inearly, though Woody and Buzz do try their best to remain relevant pastthe completion of their trilogy last summer. When it comes to Cars 2, we're treated to what is essentially a JamesBond film featuring Larry the Cable Guy's character Mater. Quickly I'mreminded of Arthur and how Russell Brand was in nearly every singlescene. Except instead of a man-child out of control Brit, we insteadget an even more grating redneck caricature that's more hijinks thanha-has. Mater has been misconstrued as a spy, and there's a whole caperinvolving alternative fuels. Yes, Pixar is all about the greentechnology, so you gotta have a bit of environmentalism with your funas usual. The only problem is there isn't much fun to be had. At least not for anadult. The kids will likely enjoy some of the antics, as Mater screwsup things but by doing so manages to solve problems along the way.Lightning McQueen is hardly featured. And everyone should really payattention to just how marvelously beautiful the scenery is in the threeinternational cities the World Grand Prix takes place in. (An effortincluded to no doubt boost international box office.) But really thespy story is just kind of lame. Not to mention rather violent for arated G movie. I mean, cars with guns, rocket launchers, and tasers? So, in conclusion, you probably can skip this movie unless you havelittle ones. Yes, the visuals are stunning and enhanced to some degreewith 3D technology. And there is just a sliver of heart to be found inthe midst of all the madcap espionage. But generally speaking, it's allabout the annoyance of Mater and marketing so that following the film'sconclusion you can buy lots of stuff featuring the Cars brand. Afterall, when I bought my ticket I was given a small pamphlet that let meknow Target has 'everything Cars'.
DICK STEEL 04 May 2012
Pixar had always treaded carefully when it came to follow up films, with only Toy Story getting the honor given its established fan base, and soon, Monsters Inc getting a prequel as well. As to why Carswarranted a second film would be anyone's guess, but I suppose thestory allowed some bandwidth to break out of the small town of RadiatorSprings and into the big leagues of an international racing circuit tothe tune of a lot more merchandise and toys to make money from, that itperhaps proved to be irresistible. The idea is a no brainer, since there's F, the World Rally Series andothers to tap more ideas from, that the story by John Lasseter, BradLewis and Dan Fogelman could adapt from, featuring cars of all makesand series being put together and competing with one another around theworld. Or at least that's what the initial premise was thought to be,until someone decided to include a major plot to centre this around aJames Bondish espionage tale about oil versus bio fuels, sideliningwhat would be simple to follow for the kids, and making this onevehicle based spoof of Bond, complete with gadgets, planes, trains andmore automobiles. But that's not to say I didn't like the idea, since it had a veryinteresting motivation and adversary built between the elites - thosebranded, luxury models and the lemons, mass produced vehicles who don'thave prestige nor prominence, but go about their daily chores if notfor faulty and cheap parts to break them down at times. This was anaspect that was present, but could have played up a lot more, especially since we are dealing with fat egos in Lightning McQueen(voiced by Owen Wilson), and that of his rival in this installment, theFormula One Italian car Francesco Bernoulli (John Turturro) with aneven larger ego that came complete with ill wisecracks. And who knew the main character of the film swung from LightningMcQueen to his small town buddy the tow truck Mater (Larry the CableGuy), who enrolled his race car friend into a competition organized bySir Miles Axlerod (Eddie Izzard), a tycoon bent on proving bio fuels tobe a safer alternative to oil. So a crew from McQueen's posse atRadiator Springs got put together, and off they go into three legs of arace around the world, in Japan, Italy and England. But it's spy versusspy stuff with Mater got tangled with British spies Finn McMissile(Michael Caine) and his assistant Holley Shiftwell (Emily Mortimer) asthey go about trying to uncover who the mastermind is behind thesabotage of the race, and perhaps these episodes were the most fun, having the bumbling Mater working together with the slick spies in manyset action pieces. It's pretty adult with its espionage theme completewith torture and murder, so parents you've got some explanations to do.With Pixar you can be quite assured of the quality of animation in thisfilm, but somehow when compared to the other Pixar films of late, fromWall.E to Up to Toy Story 3 even, those films had a lot of heart andemotion put into their characters, whereas this one lacked thatemotional punch, coming close to reiterating the importance offriendship again, but overall feeling too superficial, focusing a lotmore on the technical aspects of an animated film, and the buffoonishMater for comedic effect. It's akin to waxing the exterior of a vehicleto shiny perfection, but pop the hood, and the flaws show up with thelack of a proper, driving engine to fuel the story. It's still not that bad when compared to other animated films in recentyears, but given that Pixar had raised its own bar so high, Cars 2 fella little short, though still no less entertaining as a film, just neverbeing able to reach the company's stratospheric heights in terms ofstorytelling, and heart. Those who missed our friends from Toy Story will do yourselves a favourby coming into the cinema earlier to catch the usual short previewbefore the main Pixar feature, where we see the toys rather settled intheir new home and new owner, and turning their play environment into aHawaiian paradise so that Ken and Barbie can share their first kiss. It's a short feature, but these precious minutes prove to be quite thepowerhouse with drama, romance and comedy all rolled into one, and initself worth the price of an admission ticket.

So, you've got an evil clandestine organization of Pacers and Gremlins (made by American Motor Cars) who work for an evil German monocle wearing stereotype who together are sitting on the largest new oil field in the world (owned by the Americans and defended by US Navy Independence Class frigates) and some british spy cars that are trying to defeat them. Americans bad. Big oil bad. The irony is that all these adorable cars are trying to get rid of the fuel they were designed to run on because they'd rather run on "alternative fuels" that don't exist yet, much like so many Americans want to run away from their own greatness for some utopia wonder-world that exists in their imagination. Oh, and since this movie has dredged the 1970's for some of the most awful cars, how about some exploding Ford Pintos? I would have added another star if I'd seen some of those. At least try to see it once before you pay cash for a clunker.----------------------Edit 11/20/2011Got to see the movie again without spending any money. In the 23rd minute of the movie it is explained that the Americans "discovered" this "biggest oil reserve in the world". What the Americans discovered was the platforms already existing and being controlled by evil lemon cars. So, the drilling platforms were not themselves owned by Americans. An American agent was working with the brit spies. So, I missed that and I'll admit that I was wrong. I changed the title of my review to remove "anti-American", but I still think the whole thing is a preachy propaganda piece that I have no desire ever to see again.
04 May 2012
I almost skipped this movie because of the reviews. That would have been my loss. No, it is not like the first "Cars". It doesn't develop the characters as well because it is a fast-paced spy movie. But the humor is good and the graphics are amazing. Especially for kids ten and older, and adults who enjoy NASCAR, this movie is fun! Given all the junk that is out there for kids to watch, why be so hard on this movie?
thekyles99 03 May 2012
I like these Cars movies and this one was just as good if not a tadbetter than the original! This time the directors John Lasseter andBrad Lewis bring a few new characters to the mix as in Francesco (anindy type car) who after Mater's ( this time voiced by Larry The CableGuy) bating challenges Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) to race him in achampionship race in his home country of Italy. Also new to the mix arePixar's version of James Bond's 007, Finn Mcmissile (Michael Caine) andM Holly Shiftwell (Emily Mortimer) two British top super spies who findunknown and very hidden espionage talents within Mater's rusty parts. This second visiting with all the folks of Radiator Springs, brings usmore of Mater then Lightning, which some have found annoying, iremember reading one critics review in which he wrote that Pixar hadfound their very own Jar Jar Binks. Well I for one like the Matercharacter and found he along with the little forklift that assists himat the garage only adds to the laughs. If you and your family loved thefirst one then you will definitely love this one as well. I love allthe Pixar films and always say bravo to them upon every review!

The original Cars movie was a great story wonderfully built up all theway to the end. There were several subtle themes along the way: Route66, the old streets connecting the world, and about friendship, faithand courage.I never watched NASCAR, was never a racing fan, and even I know what"pit stop" means now.Cars 2, God only knows what it is. A spy caper? Why? And even if itwas, at least it could have been built up to a crescendo. From Tokyo to Paris to Porta Corsa to London, and then on to RadiatorSprings, the movie zips along at such a furious pace, without makingthe pieces glue together as a narrative. Even the moral, to be what youare, is as hollow as it can be.My son, a huge fan of the Cars movie, wanted to get out within an hour.He is OK with me buying him Cars 2 toys, the Finn McMissiles, but hedoesn't want me to buy the DVD at all. That says it all.

This review is from: Cars 2 (Five-Disc Combo: Blu-ray 3D / Blu-ray / DVD / Digital Copy) (Blu-ray) Whoever is selling these is buying them, using the security key and digital copy and selling them back. So if you are buying the bundle for the inclusion of the digital copy don't wast your money.

Ugh. Let us never speak of this again. Let it be consigned to the list of terrible sequels along with such dregs as Highlander 2 and The Chronicles of Riddick and The Return of Jafar. The first Cars was kinda mediocre, but still fun and sweet in its own way, if not terribly compelling. This is not a Pixar film. It's a studio film, coutesy of Disney. It had good toy sales, so it got a sequel, a sequel where every decision was a bad one ("Hey, let's take the most annoying character and just go off the rails on a ridiculous spy adventure and forget the whole cars and racing and freedom of driving thing"). Pixar is bar-none my favorite. My favorite movie is Wall-E, and I'm 30! The Incredibles was the first movie I actually went to see twice in the theater. UP still makes me shed a tear in the first 10 minutes. We just watched Finding Nemo in the hospital while my wife was recovering from her C-section.Visually, Cars is impressive, but who cares! Plenty of terrible movies look great. For all the action, I was bored out of my skull and just wanted it to end. I have a hard time bringing up specific complaints because I've worked so hard to forget this movie. If you want to watch a decent animated British mystery/conspiracy movie, just watch The Great Mouse Detective. Much better movie. In fact this was pretty much the worst animated movie of the year (with the highest production value). With Pixar, story is usually king, which is why I like them. I'm a writer, I like good stories. But the story was just some incoherent crap based on a marketing jam session shoehorned into this execreble beast of a film. I would dissect it, but there's no point. It's a pile of garbage that makes no sense, yet was somehow ridiculously predictable. Even Owen Wilson must feel some embarassment for having to play second fiddle to a Larry the Cable Guy spy thriller in his own movie. My main complaint was that this movie was no better than what competing studios like Dreamworks put out. In fact the other studios put out FAR BETTER MOVIES this year (Kung Fu Panda 2, Rio, Rango...). Sad to see Pixar get trounced by virtually everyone out there. FOR SHAME!!! This is loving discipline. Pixar is great, we know what it's capable of, it showed us what animated movies could be! Don't reward bad behavior. Deny Disney any revenue from this film. Don't buy it, don't buy any associated products for your kids. Reward good behavior, good movies. Go buy any of the other animated films that came out this year instead. Let this one die. Let the glut of merchandise and discs be buried next to ET: the videogame in a pit in Nevada. Let us never speak of it again. And let's go watch Toy Story 3 again.
