A tough cop is dispatched to take down a serial killer who has been targeting police officers.

To start with I have to say that Jason Statham is one of my favorites; so I may be a little kinder than I should be for this UK movie. It starts off with a nice butt whipping so it caught my attention. The rest of the movie runs a bit slow and has a lot of character building. There is a good amount of cold blooded murder, ass whipping and a killer you may call barely believable but passable for the limited imagination this movie has. I do admit I did like the ending even though you can see it coming a (Kilometer) away.It is worth a watch in my opinion.

Action star Jason Statham goes at it again in BLITZ. This time he's a loose cannon London cop on the trail of a serial cop killer. He teams up with a gay inspector (Paddy Considine) and closes in on the psycho (Aidan Gillen), climaxing in a brutal showdown.Underscoring the film is a poorly defined connection between Statham and Gillan's characters.BLITZ is a strictly adrenaline-propelled movie, not really breaking any new ground and suffers from the thick accents that often become undecipherable.Statham has a strong screen presence and Considine is effective, making BLITZ an okay actioner.

Two police detectives, one straight (Jason Stratham) and one gay (Paddy Considine) team together to catch a serial killer of police officers. (I'm not certain why one is written as gay, since there is nothing to indicate this other than a few homophobic remarks, written or spoken, which have nothing to do with the plot itself. It's all back story. It might have been a more interesting acting stretch, too, if Stratham had played the gay cop and Considine the straight one.) Nonetheless, both actors shine in their roles, as does Aidan Gillen as the sociopathic killer. This movie also features a fine ensemble cast, including such British stalwarts as Mark Rylance and David Morrisey, and newer star Luke Evans. The movie's "message" seems to suggest that for some crimes, rules are made to be broken. To put this another way, it promotes vigilanteism.

To put it into context, I have been using IMDb for about 8 years butthis is the first time I have felt so passionately about a film that Ihave created an account and written this review so that others maylearn from my mistake and avoid this terrible terrible film.Jason Statham takes another turn as whispering hardman, this time as apolice detective. Although he does no detective work whatsoeverthroughout the film and is beaten at every turn by Aiden Gilliens'Blitz' cop killer. Aiden who I am sure was trying to borrow hisperformance from Gary Oldmans character in Leon came across more of acrack head retard than dangerous killer. The plot in this film is ridiculous and is still introducing newcharacters well into an hour of the film when it needs to focus ondeveloping the high number of characters it already has in the film. There is no motivation behind any of the cop killings which would beconsistent with any serial killer... ever. I don't want to spoilanything (if its even possible, it would be like spoiling a turd) butthe reason given for the killings is nonsense. The directing, music and acting in this film is terrible but the realkicker and absolute gem in this film is the script writing whichappears to be ripped off any third class gangster film from thebeginning of time or from any other Jason Statham crapathon. This ishonestly worse than a children's TV programme, I have seen deeper andmore meaningful episodes of 'come dine with me'.The entire audience shared this complete lack of effort with the samedespise as I did, bemoaning the entire experience of this.I had really wanted to support this as an English film but JasonStatham has f*cked us again. For every Kings Speech and Harry Brown wemanage to make, 6 of these dynamite sticks of d*ck come out. I wouldactually rather have watched Michael Caine dumping a number 2 for anhour which would have been more interesting than what Elliot Lester hassqueezed out. Please please please, learn from my mistake and do not watch this. Itsnot about the tenner you will save from the cinema, or the fiver fromthe Chinese man. Its about the time you will save with your life, please do not watch this and please do not support Jason Stathamanymore. Lets give him to America and keep him out of our films, whilewe are at it, keep Elliot Lester out too.

Ahmed Al Kiremli Opinion About The Story Interesting with some twists, the criminal id kept known during the movie along with his mission. Ithink launching the movie in an American accent would be a better idea.About The Directing The director Elliott Lester is still new to thedirecting career but he still delivered a watchable movie.About The Actors Jason Statham performance was not so special andbelievable regardless that the role is within his specialty.Paddy Considine did an amazing job in the gay role and head of thepolice department.Aidan Gillen did a good job.About The Script Good script About The Sound Mixing Not bad.About The Cinematography Nice and clear scenes to tell the story butsome scenes are dark.Visual Effects Nothing difficult to be achieved.About Movie Soundtrack & Music Not so interesting but its OK to keepyou in the mood of the movie.Costume Design Nothing difficult as most of the costume is availableand not required that much customization.Makeup Its not difficult in such a movie.Ahmed Al Kiremli Rating 6.5/10 Is It In Ahmed Al Kiremli's Must WatchList? No Is It In Ahmed Al Kiremli's Great Movies List? No

It's definitely not far from Cliché Central. But if you're looking for Credibility Street, you'll soon get lost.

This review is from: Blitz (Amazon Instant Video) If you have seen one of his films than you have seen them all....Fortunately they don't get old. This was an exciting flick and definitely worth checking out.

...Lester is no Don Siegel and Statham, though credibly formidable, lacks the conscience that made Harry Callahan human...
Philip French 08 May 2012
It is an unedifying film, slickly directed and photographed, but lacking conviction and much inferior to the police procedurals you can see any night on television.

Admittedly Jason Statham is not famous for movies with much depth, but even by his standards this is an absolutely terrible stupid movie. Bad story, bad acting.
Alex Cutler 07 May 2012
One of Statham's best. Jason, as usual, plays himself, although thistime in perhaps his most realistic settings. No wires, no kung-fu, nosixth sense. Just an unhealthy, alcoholic, total b**stard of a cop. This film starts out at best amoral, and I can only conclude by the endthat it is positively immoral, with many things that are veryobjectionable. The few characters with hope or any redeeming qualitiesall get dragged down into the mire, and London has rarely looked sofrightening and depressing and worryingly real. And yet the film is compelling viewing. It won't do well because theaction is not the point, and what action there is (and there is plenty)all has a bitter taste rather than the usual cathartic "it's an actionflick" joy. Equally, because it is Statham, and the action is soprevalent, it will probably be critically lambasted. But it is reallyquite a thoughtful film.

This review is from: Blitz (Amazon Instant Video) A typical jason statham movie, strong silent type explodes when provoked. All in all not a bad show, just couldn't hold a candle to the Broncos- Steelers game.
Henry Fitzherbert 07 May 2012
Not for the sensitive, this is an efficient, well performed thriller that makes a few unconvincing stabs at social commentary.

Having read the reviews, and agreeing with most of them, I'm a littlesurprised the film scores so highly. Surely it rates mid-rangeobscurity at best? The comments about unnecessary/unresolved sub-plots,completely unrealistic event turns, and lack of character depth are allabsolutely spot on, as is the 'Ronseal' analogy. But the weak, predictable and incredibly rapid ending left us quite empty. It wasmore suited to an American TV series where an advert break happens justbefore 'Columbo gets his man'. There were also some terrible continuitygaffs, especially relating to time of day and weather (look especiallybefore, during and at the end of the hotel to trains chase). Come onBritish cinema, you can do better than this!
Graham Young 03 May 2012
While the film recognises pressure and camaraderie, the plot is stretched like an under-sized string vest over a bulging six pack.

The movie was clearly made in England, nothing wrong with that. Its not as high-speed as say Crank or Transporter movies, but good story, some CSI genre thrown in as well as Stathom at his best when he fights. Its definitly worth seeing. The 2nd main cop he works with is a strange looking English actor, but he is believable and does a fine job. Every movie he does cannot be all explosions and breaking legs, although he does do fighting in this one, give the man break and he can act too.
David Edwards 02 May 2012
It's gritty, down and dirty, and Statham has never been better.
aishwaryadasgupta 01 May 2012
If you are a Statham fan you would love all his dialogs and his movesbut definitely this was not his best work. With the wake of the recentLondon riots with hoodlums ransacking it was good to see a tough guyiron fist cockney cop bringing all the goodness back to the world. GoJason Statham, this movie did not have a brilliant screenplay to saythe least but whatever it was nobody could have done it better thanJason Statham. This role was crafted for him. Also, if you got SallyDonovan from BBC Series Sherlock as Agent Falls just for her accenthere then a thumbs up to you. That was awkward and I could get it rightaway. Not bad acting from the rest of the cast. Guy who played theBlitz did well. Good one liners and Statham in action are all thepositives of this movie. As a pure Statham fan, I'd say 10 for hisefforts, but 7 for the movie.

Jason Statham is known for playing a badass in a lot of his movies andthis is no exception although it seemed a bit forced at times in this. The one liners seemed really forced in this as well. This is adetective movie about a badass detective trying to track down a copserial killer. with elements of badass and balls to the wall. Howeverit wasn't cool and fast paced as the trailer made it out to be. And theway it showed starts off alright but starts to lose it's edge and sortof picks up at the end. The villain is not intimidating, clever orcunning but just a loser. Which I guess is a good thing, but there isnothing interesting at all about his character, even his motives are sostupid. It's alright I guess for a DVD release but it's nothingspecial. If it took a bit of a more clever approach it would have beenbetter.5.8/10
