First of all, to anyone that thinks this movie is supposed to be deep, realistic and taken seriously; don't. I don't believe it was meant to be taken seriously, however it's still not funny. Yea, it has a few giggle moments here & there but most of the scenes made no sense. Weak Plot. Too many scenes that tried too hard. It wasn't necessarily boring but simply not funny. The dry humping scene was extra, totally unnecessary. The teachers other than Cameron Diaz were torture to watch. Seems like a lot of things were just thrown together at the last minute from the producer. I recommend ages 18 & older only to watch, anyone younger is just inappropriate. It suits young adults who need a brainless movie to watch while high on marijuana.

I don't understand how anyone could not like this movie. Cameran Diaz played the role to a tee. Justin Timberlake did a great perfomance as well and it was nice seeing the two together again on film (loved the dry humping scene!) Also as annoying as she was I loved the character of Amy Beaver not only because of how over the top corny she was but because I think we can all relate to someone similar to her character who has annoyed us at some point in time in our lives. I will definitely be watching this movie over and over again.

I just saw it in a theater today ($1 on Tuesdays for these second run films).I'd read the mixed reviews here on Amazon before I went and wasn't sure what to expect. Turns out I enjoyed it. Perfectly good way to pass 90 minutes of time. Certainly far more enjoyable than many other films I've had the misfortune of seeing. No, it's not going to be critically acclaimed nor go down in history as one of the greatest films of all time remembered by future generations. But I sure don't care. I just wanted an enjoyable comedy and this certainly gave me what I wanted. In addition to being funny, it was actually rather sweet how Diaz's character comes to finds that love is more important than money, falling in love with a low-paid teacher who will never give her the vast pile of cash she previously thought so vital.I can see why snobbish critics would dislike it. It's not dark, depressing, and so dull you'd like to shoot yourself just to get it over with.

This movie is awful and I hate that I spent money to see it in theaters. I was advertised that Jason Segul would be in it, in which he was. He couldn't have been in this for more than ten minutes. He was pretty funny every time because of his demeanor but... this entire thing revolved around Cameron Diaz and she's just not funny period. Then she realizes her flaws out of nowhere without any convincingness. The jokes were pretty awful and I don't mind low brow jokes but this was terrible. This movie was by far my least favorite movie of the year.

OK,So I'm new to rating the movies and I don't go to many in the theaterbut wait for them to come out to cable/DVD/Netflix, etc. I have to saythat I am a fan of Jason Segel from How I Met Your Mother and his othercomedies, IE. Forgetting Sarah Marshall and I Love You Man. And I likePhyllis Smith from The Office. I have seen Segel and Diaz making therounds promoting the film and it looked like a fun Friday night datemovie. Lettermen was raving about it so I went to see it. I was prayingto the movie gods to not this be another "Every funny thing in themovie was thrown into the trailer...but" SPOILER ALERT: It was and itwasn't funny at all. I wanted to like this movie I really did, but asone reviewer said, something just felt off, and it felt off for 92minutes. I'm giving this a 3 rating b/c of the fact that had I not seenthe trailer before hand those parts would have probably made me laugh. But in the theater where I watched the film there were LONG stretchesof silence and very few laughs. In fact many times in the theater itwas dead silence where thy writers seemed to put: PAUSE FOR LAUGHTER INTHE SCRIPT. The problem was there were none. If you want to see thismovie now, re-watch the trailer and wait for the DVD. That is if youhave an hour and half to kill one night. Remember it's an hour and halfof your life you can't get back.

Bad acting and bad screen-writing ruin "Bad Teacher", an unfunny comedywhich tries and fails to parrot the gross-out jokes of Billy BobThornton's "Bad Santa". Mega-stars Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlakeare our leads, but they have no gift for comedy. Most of their jokesfall flat. The film's plot, in which a foul mouthed, money and body obsessedteacher learns that money and image aren't everything, is bothinconsequential and predictable. Most interesting about the film is theway Diaz's character, a 39 year old slob every bit as rude, vile andsex obsessed as Thornton's bad Santa, elicits no sympathy. Why are weuncomfortable with openly "loose", vulgar, hard-drinking, beautiful, demented, sex crazed women (Cameron's raunchiness was toned downbecause male test audience members were "turned off" by her character'sswearing, particularly her use of the "c" word, usages of which weresubsequently cut), but find such attributes in a male lovable andendearing? Use a less attractive, slobby actress for Diaz's role andsuddenly you'd have a hit movie; put a sex bomb in there, and suddenlybrains are scrambled.Incidentally, on IMDb, female voters rate this film higher than males, suggesting that there is some kind of cathartic identification going onhere. Meanwhile, men squirm. 4/10 - Worth no viewings.

I've just seen this movie and I feel like it's one of the worst I'veseen in a while. The writing is terrible, the whole idea of the movieis just silly and it has no substance if you think about it. It shouldend in like 10 minutes but a ridiculous amount of details andunnecessary events are being integrated into the flick. This movie issupposed to be funny because it's regarded as a comedy but there isn'ta single scene that brought a smile to my face. The only attempts werethose typical tainted tendencies of American humor ( I don't want tooffend anyone here but it's the truth ): sex jokes, swearing, thatain't funny folks.I feel like I've wasted one hour and a half of my life by watching thisbut I don't want to complain. The only reason I kept watching till theend was for Cameron Diaz because she's a good actress but this moviejust wasn't for her in my honest opinion. My advice is not to waste time on watching it but if you're reallybored or want to give it a chance because of Diaz you can but be aware,it isn't a joyful ride.

Let's face it, the reason many people call Bad Teacher the "worst movieever shot" is not rational, it doesn't have to do with the movie itselfin any way. From the reviews I have read on here the main problem seemsto be the moral values in this film leading many "oh so shocked"viewers to give bad reviews, question people's sanity for producingthis movie and hate everything about it - whether they admit it's thereason they dislike it or pretend to hate everything about anobjectively well crafted film. But this movie is not supposed to teachanyone life lessons, it's not supposed to have some big, moral messageabout how to live your life in a good way. This is a film for adults. And films for adults do not have to follow certain morals because anadult is expected to judge morals on their own without needingguidelines. An adult can enjoy movies with main characters doing thingsthey would never find acceptable because it's not about agreeing withthe character's actions.Normally, I would rate this film 6 stars, but I rated it 8 to keep someof the irrational reviews on here from bringing the score down too far.It has solid jokes, a mostly good cast, OK direction but also somereally bad moments and the main character goes completely out ofcharacter towards the end to achieve the usual Hollywood "we need akiss! FAST!!!" Happy Ending, but overall a good comedy I would watchagain with a great performance from Cameron Diaz.

Gold-digger Elizabeth Halsey (Cameron Diaz) is forced back into theteaching position she despises after being dumped by her richboyfriend. Instead of instructing the students and nurturing theiryoung minds, she shows them movies like Lean On Me and Dangerous Mindswhile sneaking in sips of booze and cat napping at her desk. She honesin on Scott Delacorte (Justin Timberlake), a handsome substituteteacher who belongs to a family of considerable wealth but, to herdismay, he falls for the star teacher, Amy Squirrel (Lucy Punch).Intent on snagging herself another sugar daddy, she starts saving moneyfor breast implants but her efforts to afford the $10,000 price tagaren't enough. After she learns the teacher whose class receives the highest statetest scores is awarded a $5,700 bonus check, she starts making herstudents apply themselves but her aggressive teaching style yieldsnothing but bellyaching and malcontent. Determined to win the money, she poses as an investigative journalist following up on claims thatthe state exams discriminate against blacks and minorities, allowingher an the opportunity to steal the test questions from Carl Halabi(Thomas Lennon). The hostile rivalry between Elizabeth and Amy turnsinto full- scale war after Elizabeth's students scores are, not onlythe highest in the entire county but, enough to unseat Amy's three yearvictory. There are plenty of rotten pranks and downright nasty schemes that goon throughout the film, along with drinking and drugs, lots ofswearing, an awkward dry-humping scene, and a pair of surgicallyenhanced breasts that will have men's eyes popping right out of theirsockets. The humor is hit-and-miss but when it succeeds, it'sshamefully funny. It's no comedic gem but it does satisfy a guiltypleasure to see Diaz play a greedy, thoughtless, conniving bitch. InHollywood years, she's 'old' but, damn, she is looking better than everand I give her props for flaunting what she's got in Bad Teacher.I loved Lucy Punch as Amy Squirrel. Who is this woman who nailed therole of a well-intentioned but batshit crazy teacher so perfectly? Shecaptured all of Amy's neurotic tendencies, exasperatingcompetitiveness, nervous tics, and the smarmy smile that I kept hopingElizabeth would knock right off of her face. Thumbs up to Jason Segelas Russell, the school gym teacher pining for Elizabeth, John MichaelHiggins as the overwhelmed Principal Snur, and Phyllis Smith asreserved, mousy Lynn. The only person I didn't get was JustinTimberlake's character - he was just plain weird and dull. This was a mediocre comedy saved by its cast. There is a lot thatdoesn't make sense and you basically have to toss your morals to thewayside. Don't get too analytical. This movie is not an attack on thefine men and women who sacrifice salary for their passion to teach. It's a short-sighted, bawdy summertime flick that wants to tickle yourfunny bone, even if it doesn't always succeed.

This review is from: Bad Teacher UNRATED (Amazon Instant Video) If I could give this movie a "pretty good" 3.5 stars I would. I'm a fan of Cameron, Justin, and Jason and the previews made this one of those movies that I felt I absolutely HAD to see. The first half of the movie was honestly very disappointing. It was boring and the scenes were so choppy. It was like...here is scene 1. Now scene 2. Now scene 3 and none of the scenes flowed or came together. I barely laughed in the first half. The Christmas scene and onward is when things picked up and I began to enjoy the movie. There was much more humor and it was fun seeing what the bad teacher would do next. Nothing was off limits for her. For me, the awful beginning and awesome ending cancels out so it's an "okay" movie at worst and "good" at best.

Cameron Diaz seems to be showing her versatility these days in thescripts she picks and i don't fully blame the crappiness of this filmtotally on her. Without her it would've been ten times worse in myopinion. I liked her attitude in this as it only adds to her aroundsexiness. Now if a director is new to making a film which contains alot of vulgarity in it may i suggest calling up the king himself JuddApatow and getting some suggestions on how it's done. One thing i willsay for movies that promise loads of laughs and that don't deliver atleast they have an entertaining script along with a storyline as tokeep us watching in one way or another.

The problem with "Bad Teacher is that she simply isn't bad enough.Elizabeth (Cameron Diaz) puts in her time as a teacher at a junior high school, all to prove to her sugar daddy fiancée that she is the marrying type and not really a gold digging viper. But her future step-mother puts a stop to the wedding and Elizabeth returns to the school unready and bitter about having to teach her classes. The job is now necessary to provide a living, a very modest living. The first day back, she runs into the new substitute teacher, Scott (Justin Timberlake) and quickly learns he comes from a rich family and recently broke up with his buxom girlfriend. Elizabeth becomes convinced the way to Scott's heart is by getting a new, expensive boob job. Elizabeth desperately comes up with an assortment of ways to earn, scam and steal the money for the operation. Russell (Jason Segel), the gym teacher, shows some interest in her, but because he is a gym teacher, making a gym teacher's salary, she couldn't be less interested. But he continues to make overtures. Amy (Lucy Punch, the stalker in "Dinner With Schmucks") is a good teacher, who takes great pride in her job, so naturally she and Elizabeth develop an ongoing rivalry. Then, Elizabeth's friend, Lynn (Phyllis Smith, TV's "The Office") tells her about a teaching prize, a prize Amy has won every year. Elizabeth has a new goal."Bad Teacher", directed by Jake Kasdan ("Zero Effect", "Orange County") has a handful of laughs, but just as it seems to be fulfilling the promise of the concept, it starts to pull back, as though the filmmakers are afraid to push the envelope too far.Diaz's portrayal of Elizabeth is basically a one-joke pony. The teacher is foul mouthed and doesn't seem to care who hears it. That's pretty much it. Occasionally, she does something that could be considered 'bad', but these moments simply don't go far enough. The problem is everything is too easy for her. Once she gets an idea, it goes according to her plan. The complications arise from the other people around her. But because these complications don't really present much of a roadblock, everything seems too easy for her. Imagine if Lucy Ricardo had found a job she was good at, a job to earn the money for her new hat, if Ricky had let her into the show, countless episodes of "I Love Lucy" wouldn't exist. "I Love Lucy" is such a timeless classic because Lucy has to work very hard to get to her goals and they are extremely funny because she almost always gets in her own way. "Bad Teacher" misses a lot of opportunities to be funny because she doesn't have to work hard enough, there aren't enough complications. In fact, the funniest moments come from Amy Squirrel, the character played by Lucy Punch, because she can't convince anyone that Elizabeth is a terrible educator. And, because she is complaining so much, the focus begins to shift to her and we start to learn things about her.Lucy Punch played easily the most unfunny and annoying character in "Dinner With Shmucks", her previous film. Which is saying a lot. Everyone in that film was annoying and unfunny. In ""Teacher", Amy has some vague similarities, but because her efforts are consistently thwarted by Elizabeth, she becomes desperate and a little funny. This goes on so long that everyone else starts to turn their attention towards Amy, dredging up her unwelcome history and turning a spotlight on her actions. And because of this, Amy becomes the funniest character in the film.As Diaz is the star of the film, we want and need her to be the center of the story. She is the 'Bad Teacher'. She needs to be bad, to shock us. She sure has a foul mouth, but that is pretty much the extent of it. Maybe some people find this to be enough, but I don't. We need to see and hear more examples of how bad she is. If you are going to make an 'R' rated comedy called "Bad Teacher", really push the boundaries. Diaz and Kasdan don't do this. The set-up for "Teacher" is funny. We quickly get why Elizabeth is a teacher, what she is trying to do and how she plans to accomplish it. But then everything in her life comes crashing down and we begin to learn a little bit more about Elizabeth. She is a truly desperate person and begins to come up with some ideas about how to get herself back on track.Justin Timberlake plays Scott, the too-sweet, too-naïve substitute teacher who captures Elizabeth's eye. She corners him and learns more about him. He could be the ticket to the Sweet Life. Initially, his "aw-shucks" naïveté is fun and so different from Elizabeth that we can't help but chuckle. And then he seems oblivious to the ongoing battle between Elizabeth and Amy, which is also amusing. But these ongoing situations only carry the humor so far. When nothing else is developed, the film dies quickly and resorts to the Timberlake staple; he starts singing an older song in a weird way. He has done this repeatedly, on "Saturday Night Live", in films, it even seems to be a part of his new film "Friends with Benefits". It was a funny idea the first few times. But it has now played out.Jason Segel plays Russell, the gym teacher, and he also has a few good moments. When he initially makes a play for the bad teacher, he is quickly rebuffed. But this doesn't seem to faze him. Later, he does become miffed and decides to retaliate. Again, good for a few moments and then nothing happens. This is the main problem for the entire film. All of the set-ups are good. For a few moments. But they don't evolve and take on new dimensions to continue to surprise us and entertain us."Horrible Bosses", released two weeks after "Teacher", would seem to be ripe for the same problems and criticisms. But "Bosses" delivers on the "Horrible" promise. Each of the three bosses is very bad, for very different reasons. And each of the three actors seems to relish and enjoy the chance to push the boundaries. In "Teacher", Kasdan and Diaz seem to pull back, afraid of going to that darker place. And because of that, "Bad Teacher" doesn't just give an 'F', it gets a D.
Twodude Review 04 May 2012
There have been many memorable acting performances in which teachersare portrayed: Edward J. Olmos as Jaime Escalante in Stand and Deliver;Michelle Pfeiffer as Louanne Johnson in Dangerous Minds; and RobinWilliams as John Keating in Dead Poets Society just to name a few. AddCameron Diaz as Elizabeth Halsey to that list. All four had a stronginfluence on their students; Escalante, Johnson and Keating werepositive influences, whereas Halsey's influence is enough to make onequestion a school's hiring practice. She's lazy, disinterested in herstudents, and clearly has one goal in mind to find a rich a man thatwill take care of her. If that's not influencing your kid on how not toturn out, I don't know what is.The cast of Bad Teacher is terrific, from top to bottom. Cameron Diazis a riot throughout the movie, whether she's being seductive, deviousor a cold hearted bitch. Elizabeth Halsey is someone easy for hercolleagues to dislike, but as a viewer I found myself rooting for her.Diaz appears to genuinely enjoy the role she's been cast in. JustinTimberlake looks and acts the part of a geek, which appeared to be theintended result. J.T. is a rising star in film, and with his goodlooks, charisma and talent is capable of standout performances inanything he does; I can't say that he's very memorable, but he isconvincing in the part. I was unfamiliar with Lucy Punch, but thoughtshe really held her own surrounded by a talented and experienced cast. The back and forth between Punch's Amy Squirrel, the 'good teacher',and Diaz's Halsey is extremely entertaining and is what drives thefilm. Jason Segal isn't in the movie very much, but when on screen headds additional hilarity in a subdued way. Minor supporting rolesplayed by John Michael Higgins and Phyllis Smith assist in drawingattention to the fun.The closest comparison to Bad Teacher I could think of was Bad Santa. The difference being that I felt Bad Santa was excessive in its use ofprofanities. There would be cursing when there just wasn't a reason orneed for it. In Bad Teacher, the profanity and raunchiness werehysterical, regardless of how over the top. There's one particularscene that comes close, but it's done with purpose to further thestory. There are easily going to be people who find this type of movieoffensive or excessive. I'm just not one of them. I'm confident thatwith a weaker cast that Bad Teacher would have just been a bad movie.Thankfully that wasn't the case, and the strength of the film lies inthe performers.Oscar worthiness: none Summer movie Grade: C+ Age appropriate: 18+ (notsomething you want to take your mom to)visit our site at www.twodudereview.com

This is a black comedy about our upside-down world in education. As itshould, it is not always intended to be funny. Also, the main characteris not intended to be a nice person. I find the work of the writersvery original; in fact, too original, in the sense that thisupside-down world, where villains are heroes may be too bold fortoday's audiences. It is actually tragic how education is being managed by ourcivilization, these days. The movie manages to walk the fine linebetween comedy and the "not so funny" stuff with elegance. And itmanages to show (and never tell), in ninety minutes, all that's wrongwith education. I won't add spoilers. so go and see it for yourselves!

Who made this film? Mayor Bloomberg, or New York's Daily News or Post? This is just something they would concoct in their never ending assaulton teachers. Teachers come across as lazy, incompetent, uncaringpeople, who smoke weed on the side and engage in outrageous behavior aswell. What a role for Cameron Diaz! I read somewhere that in real life shecouldn't wait to get out of high school. While this is supposed to be a comedy, it was made at the wrong time.Teachers are terribly unappreciated by society and this piece of junkonly adds fuel to the anti-teacher venom spreading throughout thecountry. The Peter Principle is applied here at the film's end, but by thenyou're really annoyed at what you've seen during the 90 minutes thatthis garbage is on film.By the way, where were the parents if the teacher were as bad as thefilm depicted? The principal was also out to lunch. As for the onesupposedly outstanding teacher in the building, if her's was an exampleof great teaching, I'll eat my hat!Awful film.

So, this movie was released in theaters around the same time asBridesmaids. ALL anyone could talk about was "Omg Bridesmaids isamazing! Bridesmaids, Bridesmaids, Bridesmaids!" So, I ventured to thetheater and bought a ticket for Bridesmaids. It was funny, but notincredibly so. Kristen Wiig is one of my favorites but I found hercharacter lackluster and felt she could have done it better. ANYWAY,later, I decided to go see Bad Teacher out of complete boredom. Ididn't know what to expect, I wasn't a Cameron Diaz or JustinTimberlake fan. Actually, I only really was excited to see Phyllis fromThe Office. This movie was hilarious! Oh my gosh, how could I ever dislike CameronDiaz? My view completely changed about her! She doesn't hold back, shedelivers and has perfect comedic timing and brings insane positiveenergy to the movie. If it wasn't for Cameron, this movie may have beenso-so. I say this because her character is very unlikable and shallowand rude on paper. Cameron brings charm to this character and doesn'tnecessarily make her likable, but just makes her hilarious! So funny! The other actors are great as well, especially the woman who plays Mrs.Squirrel! Go see it! Ignore the bad reviews! Decide for yourself!

Some teachers just don't give an F. For example, there's Elizabeth(Cameron Diaz). She's foul-mouthed, ruthless, and inappropriate. Shedrinks, she gets high, and she can't wait to marry her meal ticket andget out of her bogus day job. When she's dumped by her fiancé, she setsher plan in motion to win over a rich, handsome substitute (JustinTimberlake) - competing for his affections with an overly energeticcolleague, Amy (Lucy Punch). When Elizabeth also finds herself fightingoff the advances of a sarcastic, irreverent gym teacher (Jason Segel),the consequences of her wild and outrageous schemes give her students, her coworkers, and even herself an education like no other.so its done, weekend is over and all the four movies i saw were bad orbelow average but this one was ans average movie. will this may not bethe best R rated comedy you will see, its not bad either. if you haveseen the trailers and stuff, the whole movie is based on the jokes thatwere shown in the entire trailer. yes but Cameron's character and thefunny cat fights situations in the movie may keep you interested.very few moments where i actually laughed but throughout the movie as ilook back now wasn't very funny or laughable. i was surprised by theamount of strong language or nudity and crude humor has been shown, forwhat i thought it will be filled with many but it actually had less, very less. that is good right. i had a somewhat good time watching thismovie. been entertained with this concept which i though could havebeen used a bit better.Directed by Jake Kasdan, i liked how he kept the movie easy going andshort. he did a nice job not good though. Screenplay has some flaws.written work of this movie could have been better. Edited badly. allthe other stuff was okay. Cameron Diaz as a foul mouthed weird badteacher was really nice, i liked her in this character. she could havedone better. other actors like Justin Timberlake, Jason Segel, JohnMichael Higgins, Lucy Punch, Molly Shannon and others did an okay job.to be honest Cameron somehow sparks throughout the movie.i liked the cat fights of Cameron and Lucy's characters, they bothcan't stand each other.you might have a bit of a good time with it, Mildly Recommended.

Admittedly, when we heard that Cameron Diaz was to do a comedy filmabout an American school teacher, especially a film called "BadTeacher", the thought was shadowed with Billy Bob Thornton's "BadSanta". So where would Cameron Diaz pick up where Billy Bob left off?Having been a teacher for only a year at a local middle school,Elizabeth Halsey has plans of marrying Mark a wealthy businessman whosuddenly gets information that his wife to be Elizabeth has beenspending money like it's going out of fashion. For this he calls boththeir wedding and relationship off, but that is the least of MissHalsey's problems  she is now homeless.Returning back to the school as a teacher Miss Halsey decides she needstime to evaluate her position and make every effort to make enoughmoney for a boob job, so that she can attract the perfect wealthy manwho will support her for the rest of her life. It is the in-betweencapers that this teacher gets up to which makes this movie work, as did"Bad Santa" with Billy Bob.Filled with a lot of off the wall jokes, hilarious undertones and sidesplitting tongue in cheek, up front and in your face humour; it will be"Bad Teacher" that puts "Bad Santa" into the minor category of a PG-13Rating  and this is regardless of Billy Bob's colourful language.A warning may be needed for some viewers regarding this film as somescenes may cause spontaneous laughter and that of the occasionalfalling tear due to excessive comedic mastery put into the script. Allin all, we loved this film and we loved how Diaz has changed her actingdirection to concentrate on Comedy.DVD Archive Rating: 10/10 (+1 if Catherine Tate would have beenintroduced as Miss Squirrel's younger sister)

In a film that makes her star turn in "The Sweetest Thing" look Oscar-worthy,Cameron Diaz plays what can only be charitably referred to as a filthy tramp who, only through the skewed logic of bad movies, has somehow become a middle-school teacher.None of the supporting cast, their roles nor anything they do in this gutter-minded,badly written misfire,is worth mentioning, possibly save for Phyllis Smith, whose character is so likeable, you wonder manner of wager she lost that forced her participation in this debacle.
