the animals weren't that funny

I like some kids movies like this, but I didn't find this one to bevery funny. First, you would think the target audience is 8 year oldkids, but the animals tell some adult humor not appropriate for youngkids.I like Kevin James in some films, but I didn't think he pulled the roleoff. I mean when you have a guy take a talking gorilla to dinner, it'shard to make that work.Plus, the girl he liked, Stephanie, was so mean to him on the beach. There is no way a guy would want to take someone like that back.FINAL VERDICT: There's a lot better movies with talking animals outthere, watch one of them.

Got The Job Done

We went out to the theater with my young nieces looking for ababysitter of a movie and a real time killer. This one gets the jobdone and it actually was not all that bad.I spent half of the time trying to match animals with actor voices. Theother half listening to two gals camped out behind me incessantlygiggling at everything Kevin James said or did. I guess they liked themovie too. My nieces did and believe me, they let you know when a movieis bad by their behavior. They did not squirm or complain once.Overall, the movie delivers the usual feel-good story with a twist. There are some funny moments and some not-so-funny moments, but nothingthat morphs into a nightmarish experience. For that reason, I giveZookeeper a hearty 6 out of 10 stars. After all, four women laughingand not whining is pretty good day in my book.

Give it a break!

I just watched Zookeeper and I must say I was pleasantly surprised.Kevin James plays Griffin Keyes, a caring zoo keeper who tries to winhis ex-girlfriend back who broke up with him five years ago. Hisslapstick performance along with the animal lip-syncs and their funnydialogues basically carried the movie. Rosario Dawson looked stunninglybeautiful as always and it makes me wonder why I still haven't migratedto New York yet. Also the rest of the cast was fun to watch especiallyGriffin's bitchy ex-girlfriend played by Leslie Bibb. So I don'tunderstand why so many people gave it one star. Do you really expectevery film to be a life-changing experience with plot twists youhaven't seen before and a mind-blowing ending? Some reviewers said thatthe story was predictable. Any story is once you have reached a certainage. Just take a look at some of this year's blockbusters which brokethe billion mark. I'm sure if you took away the CGI effects from DarkSide of the Moon or Johnny Depp's character in On Stranger Tides youwouldn't have a box office hit. A good film doesn't always need to havea compelling story line. It's supposed to serve its target audience andthat's what Zookeeper does. You should take the film for what it is: Anentertaining family movie you take your children to. Nothing more andnothing less.

Very cute movie!!!

I'm not sure why this movie got a 3 out of 10 and neither does my 13year old daughter who can be the biggest critic of them all. It was avery cute movie that was funny and goofy and just down rightentertaining. Made me remember we all need to laugh and be silly moreoften than we do. OK so I like goofy movies but I like the shoot 'emand kill 'em and gory ones too. The movies are about entertaining andforgetting the REAL life crap we deal with on a day to day basic. Verymuch well worth the cost to see. I feel a little more light heartedthat I took the chance and didn't go by the 3 stars and read thereviews instead. I was not disappointed. By the way, it does say PG soyes it's aimed at kids.

Animal love

I rented this movie and loved it until the animals began to talk, then I realized this flick was for children. Then it turned into a love story and I began to regain some hope, until the cliche ending of racing to the airport. But since airport security has lost their mind, you can't do that anymore. However, if one were to try, forget using a cell phone, perhaps riding an ostrich or a gorilla would be easier. But what do I know?

Totally silly, but totally funny

The positives of the movie are many. The special effects with the animals talking and moving are terrific. Kevin James is as likeable as ever. The main female leads are attractive and interesting There are many laugh-out loud funny gags. There are a few good throwaway lines and several touching moments between the Vet and the Zookeeper. The movie is clean: it has no nudity and no bad language I can remember. The scatological humor is kept to a minimum. Since a monkey is one of the most talkative characters, scatological humor could have taken over the show. The only negatives are the plot and some of the bizarre characters. The plot is just full of holes. A person starts hearing animals talk and never seeks help? A couple of the minor characters are strange and not really funny. However, in a screwball comedy these defects are really minor. My wife enjoyed the movie immensely.

Zookeeper

This review is from: Zookeeper (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo) (Blu-ray) If you can get past the silliness of the plot, there are many funny scenes and dialogue. It ismore of a romantic comedy, but the talking animalswill appeal to children, though much of the humorwould be over their heads. Best for teens? ?

Laugh out loud funny

This review is from: Zookeeper (Amazon Instant Video) After being hounded by my 8-year old son, I reluctantly rented this movie and we watched together. HIllarious! He and I laughed throughout the entire movie. I did not expect to like it, but I did. We recognized the voice of the gorilla as having been the voice of the bear in the movie "Over the Hedge". However - the monkey stole the show.

Great Family Film

This movie is a must see! I loved this movie from the start to end. It kept me laughing nonstop. The storyline, animals and actors in this movie were awesome. If I had to pick a favorite scene it would be Gorilla and James at TGI Fridays. It was too funny for words! I am a huge fan of Mr. James and glad he made this film.

Review

Always expecting something funny from Kevin James, I got what I wasafter. This film is funny and entertaining. Although cheesy at times itis a solid film. When you watch it, you begin to get into the movie andnot want to get up to go to the bathroom or get more popcorn. Overall Iwas satisfied and entertained at the conclusion of this film. Irecommend this movie to all audiences, its funny and totallysatisfying. The critics out there that criticize this film areill-considered. This is a good movie, maybe not great but it gets thejob done. Kevin James is excellent in this movie, he plays funny asalways, but he serves dramatic roles and succeeds. He is continuallyshowing he is a versatile actor.

Zookeeper Needs Its Cage Cleaned

I like Kevin James as an actor. This liking did not save "Zookeeper"for me at all.So, the Zookeeper wants to man up and win the affections of an oldflame and the talking animals of the zoo are helping him out becausethey don't want to lose him as their keeper ala he might go get a moreimpressive job as a means to woo the lady. The animal voices are done by well known celebrities and are allannoying. All of them. The lines and "jokes" if you want to call themthat are terrible. Adam Sandler has his humor all over this and hefails to make the monkey he voices funny. How do you mess up a monkeybeing funny? I am being harsh. This is a kids' movie! Or at least itshould be. The plot does not seem like a kids' movie plot exactly. It'slike a romantic comedy for adults done for kids and failing to actuallycater to the adults enough. This movie is a stinker! Children 8 andunder may want to try this movie out, though parents may not want themto, and really I don't blame them, give the kid a book instead. KevinJames earns the movie a two instead of a one for me, his presence wasthe only thing going for it.

Dr Dolittle should have put a few down....

Paul Blart lands a job as a zookeeper, but his love life is paying forit. His girlfriend rejects his proposal, and leaves him full ofdisdain.Years later, he bumps into her and as a last ditch attempt to get herback, he contemplates leaving his zoo for a better job.Did someone say talking animals? Wheres Jerry Stiller?....It's not as bad as what most critics say, but it's still a bit of amongrel. It's not James fault, he is always endearing in anything i'veseen him in, and he has great chemistry with the cast. It's the lousy writing and a poor attempt at a crudish 'see how far wecan push the ratings' Dr. Dolittle. It doesn't have any funny lines in this film at all. And yes, whenJames gets hit once, my daughter laughed. After a few repeats of this, even she was looking for more Nick Nolte, who saves the film by doingwhat the film should do. Giving the animals that little human edge.Stallone and Cher are okay, but all they do is argue with each other, and it becomes annoying after a while. So all in all, it's not a bad film, but it could have been so muchmore, and Sandler should have known this and given more input.

In every zoo, there is poop...

I love Kevin James. I think that he is hilarious. I knew walking in that `Zookeeper' had the poor reviews that usually indicate a real stinker, especially in this genre, but I always consider Kevin James a presence that can and usually does make even a terrible film worth watching at least once.Yeah, not so much for this one.Honestly, `Zookeeper' may be the worst film I've seen in a very long time. There is very little funny here, in fact possibly nothing at all. I think the ONLY time I even cracked a smile was during the wedding scene, and half of that was out of sheer awkwardness (but it was semi-humorous at that). Overall, this film is a gigantic mess; a mix of wasted talent and uninspired regurgitation of potty humor that never hits where it intends. The story is that of an oaph of a man; Griffin. He is a large bodied, simple living zookeeper that is undeniably sweet natured and so, somehow, a girl as hot and self-centered as Leslie Bibb is interested in dating him, only to reveal that his profession is too much for her to handle and so she turns his marriage proposal down. Years later he's still dwelling in misery over it all. He complains about his loneliness to his animal friends at the zoo and so when they see an opportunity to get Griffin and his long lost romance back together, they take action. Soon they have Griffin roaring and walking with his package extended and peeing in potted plants and basically making a total fool of himself and yet, magically, it starts to work. But, in changing himself he begins to regret his decisions and, well, you'll guess from the pretty early on who he's going to wind up with anyways; but that's the nature of the beast.Sadly, this talking animal flick has nothing to offer. The animals are the worst part of the film. I remember when Eddie Murphy did `Doctor Doolittle'. Honestly, it was pretty clever and while some of the gags were predictable they were effective. This is such a polar opposite. The animals are crude and unfunny, and their interactions and staged comedic dialog is awkward and far too lowbrow for its own good. The voice work, especially Sandler's, is obnoxious and cringe-worthy. The `message' aspect of the film is poorly executed (the mean caretaker side of things was an afterthought entirely) and certain sequences are just too ridiculous (TGIF) that it makes this whole experience a complete and total waste.I still love you Kevin; I just advise you to steer clear of Adam Sandler.

Excellent Family Movie

I don't know why this movie doesn't have a higher rating, perhapsbecause it doesn't have lots of sex and violence. This movie has lots going on in it, enough to keep the kids and grandmaentertained for it's duration. If you have lots of underage company forthe holidays be sure and have this movie handy during the holidayseasons to put a whole lot of cheer in the hearts of everyone.Everything about this movie screams " Well Done ."This movie should melt the hearts of anyone who has a heart!I enjoyed this movie very much and I know you will too!People need to stop rating horrible movies good and good movies bad!

Good line up, big let down

There were some big names in this movie and it had such great potential but it was a big let down. They took it way too far in terms of animal and human interaction. I mean, bringing a guerrilla to TGIF and he ends up dancing with a girl and the girl whispers "I'm so glad I met you!" Come on!Definitely some funny parts, but overall I would pass on it. I don't know that it would even appeal to the younger crowd. I think Dr. Doolittle was better in terms of the storyline mixing animals and people.

IMDb rating is fairly low, in actuality a pretty solid of a movie: Delivers....

Zookeeper is an absolutely entertaining film. Have no doubts aboutthat...But before I go on to review the film, I would like to say a thing ortwo about the so called professional reviewers of our online media. Each genre and each storyline will have a different yardstick dependingon what the film is setting out to achieve. Don't go looking for logicand 'intelligence' in a film when its primary motive is to make peoplelaugh and have a good time. And I will host a grand party the day Kevin James ditches Mr. FrankCoraci. That aside, Kevin James is a film which will make you feel good andhappy and Kevin James absolutely deserves credit for this. Hisperformance as Mr. Keyes is an absolute delight to watch and themannerisms will leave you in splits of laughter. And then, theperformance as Keyes is the icing on the cake.I wont say anything moreabout this as it will spoil the experience for you.Kevin James, take a bow. This is amongst your best performances to date. The new face of the film, Rosario Dawson deserves special mention forthe way she acted and carried off the role of Kate. There isinnocence, charm,a certain vulnerability and tenderness in the characterbut at the same time she can be quite a force to reckon with ifprovoked. And Dawson lived in the role. For a debutant, its amazing.Ken Jeong as usual was his excellent self as the best friend of Mr.Keyes and their moments on screen are truly rib tickling. The 'Zookeeper' song is very good and so is the background score. Itadds weight to the film and to the comedy. All the other songs arepretty decent. The way the zoo was shown is also very nice and the rich productionvalues of Frank Coraci films is clearly visible in each and everyframe. And finally, for the director. Welcome back Mr. Frank Coraci. We missedyou and we hope that you make movies a little more often than you do.Maybe, the ending could have been handled slightly better but then itsnot a major gripe. Some parts of the story may defy conventional logiclike the way Griffin Keyes manages to juggle his different 'careers'.But as I said earlier, these kinds of films are not about logic orintelligence. They are about making you laugh and have a good time andin that Zookeeper is eminently successful. All in all, Zookeeper is a very feel good film that you can go out andwatch with your whole family. 100% Paisa Vasool film

It's for kids, but still funny and entertaining

Zookeeper is the latest effort of comedy actor Kevin James and directorFrank Coraci. In this one James stars in the title role as Griffin, aman who has been working at the zoo and is happy with his job.In the beginning, we are introduced to Griffin and his girlfriendStephanie, played by Leslie Bibb. They are riding on a horse on thebeach, where Griffin has made an elaborate setup to propose toStephanie, who turns him down. She says no because she doesn't like thefact that Griffin is a zookeeper. We then transition to five years later, where Griffin still works atthe zoo and loves the animals that he takes of. He is holding a partyfor his brother and fiancé, where Stephanie shows up and makes himnervous. When she comes back into Griffin's life, he tries to win herback. That is where the zoo animals come into play as they have a codeof silence when it comes to humans. The animals decide to break their code in order to help out theirloving zookeeper. At the same time, he has a co-worker named Kate, played by Rosario Dawson, who likes Griffin for who he is and likes thefact that he loves his job.James shows that he can carry a movie as a leading actor. James is asevery bit funny as he is believable. Dawson does a good job as one ofGriffin's co-workers. Ken Jeong, also known as Mr. Chow from TheHangover and Chang from Community, has a couple of funny moments asanother one of Griffin's co-workers.The animals are fun to watch as they communicate with Griffin and eachother. The standout of the animals is Nick Nolte as the voice of agorilla named Bernie. Other notable cast members include Adam Sandleras the voice of a monkey named Donald. Sandler is also a producer onthe film. Sylvester Stallone voices the lion who first talks toGriffin. Movie director/producer Judd Apatow voices a hystericalelephant. It is clear from the the beginning to the end credits that Kevin Jamesand director Frank Coraci were making a movie that is intended forkids. Kids will find many laughs out of Griffin falling down many timesand making himself look stupid. There are also a lot of other laughs inthe film that come from more than James's slapstick.

Very weak hardly any laughs

I am a fan of Kevin James but the movie is a pretty bad. The comedy isso weak it runs out very quickly. It's painful for most of the movie. The only good part is the way the animals talk is well done. Theeffects are seamless. Children may be quite amused by this. The centrallove story is not interesting and there is no chemistry with RosarioDawson.Kevin James tries hard and it's always surprising how agile he is.Supporting cast are not attractive.Like Mall Cop this one doesn't have a lot of laughs but this is weaker.Don't bother at all.

23 April 2012

We enjoyed it.

I have to say this kept us entertained. Most movies these days I can't even get through the whole thing so that says something. Some really LOL scenes and some unrealistic beyond what I can even let my imagination wonder scenes but enough of a balance that it was good for the whole family. I'd actually give it 3 1/2 if I could but I can't so I rounded up....
