A Mixed Bag of X-Files and Human Target

This series seems to take its premise from two sources, thejuxtaposition of the dichotomy of two FBI agents with certainidiosyncrasies mostly obviously presented in well received televisionseries The X-Files and Bones and the more mysterious elements ofscience fiction, very well depicted in the Sci Fi series, The Lost Room(2006). Warehouse 13 is an uneven mix of comedy and drama betterbalanced in the one season series Human Target (2010) and otherwell-known series such as Buffy: The Vampire Slayer and Ally McBeal.Warehouse 13 scriptwriters seem almost desperate to appeal to thebrainless audience with its supposedly wicked humor which almost becomea stupid parody while also attempting an appeal to the more cerebralwith its dazzling, off-balance sci fi items with mysterious powers. Thewarehouse itself seems ludicrous and some of the scenes seem prettyloose and tailored more for the scriptwriter's convenience rather thanthe technical tightness of the FBI protocol, losing some of itsintegrity. Warehouse 13 though at times has its powerful emotionalmoments and its creatively bizarre scenes that do dazzle. Overall,Warehouse is a mixed bag and not quite as sophisticated and qualityminded as its predecessors, yet it has its moments and bursts ofentertainment. Reviewed 11/25/11. 7/10.

Too Cutesy for Adult Entertainment

Rubinek is too fine an actor, with an excellent edge for this kind of12 year old aimed, almost slapstick direction. The shows havecreativity and could be a lot edgier without the "Man From Uncle"attitude, it's just unwatchable by anyone over the age of puberty. That in fact, may be its audience, I have no problem with that. Untilthis season, I found Fringe going in too adolescent a direction also. But this is unbearable, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea monster of theweek, with NONE of the darkness of Friday the 13th which was much moreinteresting, although now 20 years old, and also chased artifactsstored in a warehouse of sorts.I miss those shows, I thought we were on our way here, I was wrong, andremain disappointed as an adult. For those targeted, enjoy.

Love This Show

If you like Men In Black and Special Unit 2, you will love this show. Warehouse 13 has the same atmosphere as the other two shows. Two Wacky agents looking for wacky stuffs, just like Men In Black and Special Unit 2.

Its a hit!

This show is going to prove to be a hit, its original, quirky and drawson success of preceding science fiction hit series, mark your calendarsthis ones for the history books! The characters are original, theconcept is fresh and full of promise. It is about time sci-fi (nowsyfy) came out with a new show like this, judging from the viewernumbers on the premier night, like Eureka it shows promise to be alonger running series, unlike previous blunders like the Dresden Files. As the previous poster indicated, if you like the weirdness of theX-files and the quirky comedy of Eureka, this show is for you, it notonly draws from those two aspects, but as I stated above brings its ownoriginality to the table, which just adds to its allure, hopefully wewill see this last for a few seasons!

Warehouse 13 - oddities conjure humour, wonderment and the profound.

What a surprising little gem Warehouse 13 has turned out to be. I feelthe creative team in control have only just begun tapping into thealmost limitless supply of stories available to them with this crackingpremise they have conjured. Not surprising really as one of the show'screators is Jane Espenson who wrote some of the best and funniest ofJoss Whedon's episodes for Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel and Firefly. In Warehouse 13, two agents find themselves in charge of a top secretwarehouse that holds some of the worlds most troublesome and in manycases dangerous objects collected over time. Teamed with the curator ofWarehouse 13 and an enigmatic local bed and breakfast owner, the twoagents scour the world looking to retrieve, find, and trap the worldsmost unique objects, in the hope of safeguarding the planet. Will thisbe in vane or will they indeed maintain a long time, century's oldequilibrium? We can only wait and see.The fun part of this show is most assuredly with the two leads MykaBering (Joanne Kelly) and Pete Lattimer (Eddie McClintock) who have awonderfully playful relationship with each other without thecomplications of a 'Will they won't they?' subtext. Surrounded withenough warehouse curiosities that allow for humour, wonderment andprofound seriousness the show holds it's own with many in the samegenre and while the show is still in it's infancy I feel it hasestablished a solid enough first season to warrant a follow up.That said with the amount of high concept TV out there, Warehouse 13will probably have to tread more serious ground for the next season, and perhaps inject a more maturing seasonal arc if it is to sustainitself for a longer run on network television. While I enjoyed the first season I will say there was little tensionand certainly the sense of danger to the characters was never quiterealised enough for me to worry about anyone or the predicaments theyfound themselves in. However the number of clever and quirky objectsconceived by the writers to further the narrative was fascinating andalways a delight. All told this sits very nicely with shows like Eureka, Reaper and theearlier seasons of Supernatural.Looking forward to Season Two.

Warehouse 13 Review

When you added Claudia Donovan, you ruined the series, she is not onlyunbelievable but a poor actress, who exudes egotistical and low classvalues. You should have gotten rid of her after no later than hersecond episode. You can tell her lines are totally scripted and thatshe not a scientist nor does she embody an iota of intellectualintelligence. You would have done far better to hire a real goodlooking female classy scientist or professor. In either case Claudia'srole should have disappeared as quickly as it appeared. The casts ofArtie, Pete and Mycah are the essentials, everyone else is fodder.Mycah's role is not a reality, she has no more strength than any G man,in fact being ex military and ex undercover, I can tell you, I know ofno woman who can take out a top notch man, it is exactly theantithesis. If you would have made it more believable, instead ofplaying to young women, you would have had a top hit series.

Recommend Season I

This review is from: Warehouse 13: Season One (DVD) Season 1 was particularly enjoyable to me because the basic premise of the show is different--involving historical artifacts--than a lot of the TV series I've seen. The woman boss is very intriguing and an excellent boon to "Warehouse" because she just flat out strikes terror in her underlings hearts so often, appears unexpectedly, and seems to be magical in her actions.Although the story line is fun and interesting, the various episodes became somewhat repetitive for me. However, I am still considering purchase of Season II as I'd like to see if the writers can continue to use the potential of introducing surprising elements without being repetitive the next go-round.

Awesome Possum

Hands down one of my favorite new shows to date. It's like the X-Files and Laura Croft had a baby and *poof* = Warehouse 13.

Awesome!

This review is from: Warehouse 13: Season One (DVD) I read other reviews on this series and thought it sounded really interesting (especially considering all the TV shows and movies it was compared to are among my favorites!). Bought the first season and loved it! The characters Pete and Myka have great chemistry that continues to development throughout the season. Artie is great as an affectionate crotchety old man. Leena is mysterious and sweet as the resident aura reader. And Claudia is hilarious! Love her attitude and flair for the dramatic and curious cat syndrome with the artifacts! Watching season 2 right now--gotta say! Even better! :D

The Plot Needs Some Spice, But the Idea Works

Warehouse 13 is rather unique. While it does incorporate a certainX-Files-ness, it is in a different category altogether-- one that Ihave never seen. The show focuses on Pete and Myka, and of courseArtie, as they work together to gather artifacts (from a range of timesin history) with dangerous and mysterious properties. The concept isnew to me, and very enjoyable. Still, I feel that the show is sittingon the fence between being about the characters and being about theartifacts. To make it work, I think that they might need to lean to one(most would probably say artifacts). The characters still need more going on, if you ask me. Also, atwelve-year-old could figure out the resolution to the mystery half anhour into an episode. In addition, the show desperately needs a better main theme. I myselfam working on it... but I'm not really an expert on that. Or really ontelevision-- I'd like to clarify that.

Not a bad show, but...

...they should use some of that music licensing budget to boost thevisual effects.Seriously, I Will Survive and White Rabbit in the same episode? Thatcan't be cheap. With all the guff the SciFi channel gets about itscheesy effects, you'd think licensing classic hit singles wouldn't bewhere they'd choose to spend a budget surplus. I mean it's a nicesurprise to hear a great classic song sometimes, but that's what, 3minutes of novelty appeal in the grand scheme of a 45-minute episode? It's a sci-fi show that relies heavily on effects, and thus, moneywould be better spent on them, which might improve the overall qualityof the show.Okay, I've said my piece on that. As for the rest, it's all been saidby other reviewers, I think. To recap, the show is fluffy familyentertainment, for the most part. It's a decent show for what it is,and mostly succeeds in what it sets out to accomplish, which isn'tmuch. It's no tour de force, and it's not meant to be. Its problems arewith effects (as aforementioned) and maybe a bit weak on the femalelead -- She's an adequate actress, in that she's believable; she's justnot that interesting to watch, like the other characters are. Needs tobring a little more depth and nuance. That's it.

I'm done

Tried to watch the latest Xmas show and have finally given up on thisseries. I put up with the leading actress's boogered up lips andleading man's moronic personality traits because I liked the story lineand the supporting characters. But the latest iteration -- a laWonderful Life ripoff, where leading man has never been born -- isdeveloped so moronically it's an insult to actor and audience alike. For a guy who deals with the impossible every week to not grok he's inan alternate universe for the first 15 minutes of the show is insane.Sorry to take this off the record list, it had possibilities. But thedirection and writing have sunk to new lows. Eureka isn't far behind.Does Sci-Fi hire interns to do this work?

26 April 2012

Hilarious - really?

Maybe I've got a different Warehouse 13, but the names all match, so I doubt it. I couldn't get past DVD 2 of 3. This is, in my opinion, X-Files meets the Night Stalker. (For you young folk, a 70s era newshound who gets mixed up in ancient Indian rituals, strange magnetic fields, etc.) I'm a very long time scifi fan, but these shows require way too much of a leap of faith for me. Having read a comment about how the later shows were better, I will have a look at the third DVD before dumping this into Goodwill donation box.

Interesting Story Lines

This review is from: Warehouse 13: Season One (DVD) I purchased this show not knowing much about it and really got to like it. The family also enjoyed it. The characters are fun and the hidden love between the two main players is always good to give the story a push out of the doldrums as series are inclined to do. We all like a little romance! The warehouse has what seems like 1000's of gadgets so the stories could go on for ever. For viewers who like Indiana Jones and other similar heroes you will love this show.

A Lotta Fun

This review is from: Warehouse 13: Season One (DVD) Figured I'd try this after reading so many great reviews, and seeing the tempting commercials for season 2. Though not big Sci-Fi fans, I've always enjoyed the x-files, and more recently had seen the miniseries "The Lost Room," that I adored! Because several views often mentioned these two shows as corroborating styles, I took the plunge! This show is great! Funny, Witty, silly and dry humor, precarious situtions, adventure and a whole lot of unknowns and, of course, the warehouse! The characters grew on my quickly, and it was an absolutely joy to watch season one.DVD packaging is okay, nothing stupendous, though I never pay much attention to extras.Season two should be released soon. :-)

Upbeat and Safe

This review is from: Warehouse 13: Season One (DVD) If you want to watch something that won't make you think too much but entertain you by creating absurd situations, this is a good pick.

Warehouse 13

This review is from: Warehouse 13: Season One (DVD) I loved this series from the very first episode. Kept them recorded on the DVR until it was released on to DVD, even watched the series again !! The Retro equipment - the computer keyboard, Tesla, and various artifacts are sometimes visually stunning. Characters are important in the development of any series, and Myka, Pete and Artie were likable individually as well as in ensemble. I liked the word-play between the characters. Was an X-Files fan in the day, but I like this series much better because it has it's tongue in it's cheek! What can I really say-I am big fan of Warehouse 13 and have already recorded the 2nd season so far on DVR, which I'll keep until the release on DVD next year. Can only hope they keep renewing Warehouse 13 for years to come.
