A funny movie

Let me make it clear that this is my first movie review and that I amdrunk. I also like Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds. That being said, Ithink this movie was enjoyable. Let's start with the bad things. Yes,this movie's been done before. Yes, dirty jokes about penises and poophave been done before. Did you enjoy them the first time? You mightenjoy them again. How about the good things? These two actors can carrya comedy by themselves. I don't need to list you their credits, do I?Jason Bateman is absolutely hilarious, he goes 100% the other way (he'smore credible as the immature loser that has the hots for his bestfriend's wife) and Reynolds does the opposite of what he's been doingfor some time now, the immature jerk who is forced to grow up veryquickly (Green Lantern, Definitely, Maybe). Also, can you spell OliviaW-i-l-d-e? Listen, this is not an original movie, this is good cleanfun for the immature viewer, a movie lover who likes to let go ofexpectations every once in a while and enjoy some dirty humor. Yes,it's mostly for the men, but the ladies might enjoy it too if relatingto the female characters which are surprisingly well developed in thismovie. Did I mention Olivia Wilde?

The Vidiot Reviews...

The Change-UpWhen someone swaps their identity with their best friend, it usuallymeans they killed them and assumed their name. However, in this comedy, both best friends have exchanged lifestyles. When responsible, hardworking Dave (Jason Bateman) gets together withhis single, slacker, friend Mitch (Ryan Reynolds) he vents about hispassionless marriage and his yearning for the single life.Later, while urinating into a fountain, Dave's wish to switch liveswith Mitch comes true. Now, the two friends get to see how green the grass is on the otherside, while trying not to complicate each other's careers orrelationships (Leslie Mann, Olivia Wilde).A raunchy rendition of the standard body swap storyline, The Change-Updoesn't have enough genuinely funny gags to sustain its hackneyed plot. And while the debate over single vs. married life continues to wage, there remains no argument over whether or not common-law couples willburn in Hell. The Change-Up

Thanks to the fine people at Klout.com, I was able to get to see arough cut of the movie "The Change-Up" starring Jason Bateman, RyanReynolds, and Leslie Mann (she of Apatow fame.) Hilarious. Much MUCHbetter than I expected. Of course, this is the type of film better seenwith a filled theater.Of course it's a hard 'R' for vulgarity, nudity, and everything youexpect in a sex-themed comedy. The trailers don't shy away from that. One always expects great comedic timing from the likes of Reynolds andBateman. However, in these roles they truly do something different.Bateman gets to be the raunchy one. He finally gets to let loose.Reynolds holds back as the straight-laced guy who's more of a thinker.Leslie Mann was the true surprise in the film. I hope Judd Apatowwatches this "The Change-Up" and realizes one thing; THIS is how youwrite for/use your wife in your films. Leslie can act! She takes theotherwise tiresome 'wife' role and turns it into something a littledeeper.Olivia Wilde plays the unfortunate part of 'that girl.' She's not thereto serve much purpose throughout the flick, but her story is summed upnicely. But sweet merciful GOD does she look fantastic with very darkhair! Anyway, it's a great flick. I suggest you go see it, you'll enjoyit. It's not your typical "body swap" movie (ala "Freaky Friday," "ViceVersa," "Like Father, Like Son.") plus I believe it has more heart thanany of those three.

Handful of chuckles at best.

The second Jason Bateman gross-out comedy in as many months, thisbody-swap flick (that sees Ryan Reynolds womanising man-child switchplaces with Bateman's tightly wound family man) doesn't exceedexpectations like Horrible Bosses surprisingly did. In fact, it'spretty much as funny as I predicted – which is to say, not very funnyat all. There is the occasional laugh-out-loud moment, and a handful ofchuckles as well, but all too far and few between, with more than afair share of absolute clunkers – mostly the baby gags – to really dryup the laughs. The leading duo are decent if uninspiring, Reynoldsplaying the straight character in order to give Bateman the largershare of humorous dialogue. Olivia Wilde is wasted as Bateman's sexyassistant and Leslie Mann plays the completely thankless role of hiswife, whilst the bizarre use of CGI is more off-putting than useful.

Worst Movie of the Year

First of all, I have to get this out of the way. Who the HELL pees in apublic fountain? No one. And when in the HELL does that make you switchbodies with the person that's also peeing in the same fountain? Never. The very cause and base of the movie is nonsensical and uncreative. This movie is the lowest of low-brow, every other scene someone getsnaked (and don't waste your time, you don't actually see someonenaked). In the TV trailer, someone said "Fully worth of its R-Rating."Since when does being rated "R," automatically make your movie funny? It's nothing but sex jokes and toilet humor. It's nowhere near worththe money to go see it.

This is a daft but funny comedy, from good stock.

The Change-up involves a hectic lawyer father husband (Bateman)swapping places with a single bachelor friend (Reynolds). This is all far-fetched but it is played for laughs, treading a thinline at times with taste, emotion and it's daft but inevitablescenarios. This is a rom-com for couples and comedy fans and just about holds ontoa safe, silly idea with entertaining license and care-free frivolity.A good, safe, silly laugh of a film with some good acting thrown in too(Bateman and Mann especially). The Director (David Dobkin) also has 'Wedding Crashers' and 'I KnowPronounce You Chuck and Larry' on his CV - so expect a mash-up of these2 films's humour (with mixed results).

nice surprise for us...

Me and my wife were watching this movie and didn't expect much. Cince Ired the reviews first, like always, I expected a half-decententertaining movie for a pleasant evening. But we really liked it! OK,yes, it's a body switching story, a bit of 80's, so what?! There arereally funny scenes in the movie and the story is quite OK. Not amasterpiece, but very watchable. I watched three movies in a few days,Super 8, Crazy stupid love and this one and I must admit this was thebest of three. The movie is entertaining and funny. I usually trustIMDb rating and very often pass the movies with a low rating, althoughI find the scenario interesting. Also, I am watching all the movieswith high rating. And usually it's keep me on the right track, but notthis time. This movie deserves a better rating...

A Dirty 'Freaky Friday'!!!

This movie is awesome! It has a lot of dirty dark humor, and my styleof comedy. I love body changing movies, and this one does it right.Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds were perfect as each other. Batemanplays Dave Lockwood, a man who spends too much time at work and doesn'tspend time with his family. Reynolds plays Mitch Planko, Dave's lazyslacker friend and a man-child playboy. When they pee into a magicfountain they wish they had each others' lives. The next morning, Daveis in Mitch's body, and Mitch is in Dave's body. They go back to thefountain to see that it has been moved. They are forced to pretend tobe each other until they are switched back. Dave is forced to be in aporno, while Mitch is forced to change baby diapers. They must worktogether to switch back and change their lives for the better. I highlyrecommend THE CHANGE-UP!!!

Story seen before? Not like this!

I wasn't sure whether to watch this movie or not. It seemed medium goodand you might think this is some "all been seen before" movie. But fromwhat I can say it's definitely not. Only the main story is about thewhole change up thing as in similar movies like "Freaky Friday". Mostof these movies are about a mother and a daughter though. This one isabout 2 good friends who have known each other for a long time but areyet completely different. One is the family guy, 3 kids, a wife, ahouse, a job as a lawyer. He got everything he ever could dream of. Theother guy is nothing like this. No girlfriend, just affairs, a singleapartment, he's still kind of a boy inside. When they get changed-upit's a total chaos! How should a single guy know how to take care of awhole family with 2 little babies? How is he supposed to know how to bea lawyer? Really funny moments there. The other one doesn't knowanything about being single. Even though they both wanted this lifethey see how much it sucks for them. They step from one mistake toanother and can't manage to do anything right at the beginning. Andthey also find out things about each other they never knew and thingsabout themselves. All this in a really funny way. Only thing I didn't like was that the movie seemed to be endless. Ifelt like I spent 4 hours watching it cause some scenes might have beena little long. I wouldn't take out anything for the story nor thelaughs though, so just -1 point for this.

A hard-R rating because of language and nudity, but still rather funny most times.

I don't particularly like movies that use pervasive filthy languagebecause I find most of them juvenile and just dirty for the sake ofbeing dirty. Some viewers might find "The Change-Up" to be this way,but I didn't. I found that the language and nudity generally fit thecharacters and helped move the story forward, because of the differentnatures of the two men who switch lives in this story.Having said that, we were very glad that we were not watching it withour children, or even other adults, because much of the humor getspersonal.Ryan Reynolds is a smart slacker, who we find out through his fatherand friends "never follows through, never finishes anything." He livesalone and does very little except romance women while waiting for anacting job. He is Mitch Planko. His very best friend since they were small is Jason Bateman as DaveLockwood. Dave is sort of the opposite. He was class valedictorian, went to a great university, went to a great law school, clerked for aUS Supreme Court justice, and now after 9 years as a brilliant lawyerwith a big Atlanta firm is in line to be voted as a partner. He ishappily married and the father of three.(As an aside when I see relationships like this in fictional movies Iwonder if I could do that, stay friends with a slacker who has a habitof using the wrong language in public and generally screws things up. Idon't think I could. I believe we gravitate towards those who sharesimilar outlooks. Anyway...)So one night out after some drinking the two buddies decide to take aleak in a fountain on public land and, as they say in unison that theywished they had each-others' lives, the lights dim everywhere (tosignify something magical is happening) and the next morning they wakeup "different." Mitch is in Dave's body, in bed with Dave's wife, whothinks he is still the Dave she is married to. This creates animmediate funny moment as he sees her breast-feeding one of the youngtwins.Meanwhile Dave wakes up in Mitch's body and realizes that Mitch (inDave's body) has to go to an important meeting months in preparationfor a merger that is critical to his company. All he can do it tellMitch not to screw things up and that creates additional funny moments.Naturally the two eventually find a way to switch back, but only afterlots of anxiety finding the fountain that had been moved the day aftertheir incident. That it ends up relocated to a central area inside ashopping mall just multiplies the comic opportunities. No, this is not a great movie, but I found it more funny and moreenjoyable than most of the recent years "adult" hard-R rated comedies.I suppose much of that is due to the actors, Bateman and Reynolds, andtheir supporting cast members. And, there is a message embedded underthe several feet of sludge, about finding our own personal versions ofhappiness while learning that the grass isn't necessarily greener inthe lives of others. As always Leslie Mann is super, here she is Dave's wife, JamieLockwood. The "wilde card" for me is Olivia Wilde, a really gorgeousactress playing Sabrina McArdle, a junior lawyer working for Dave. Sheends up becoming the love interest of Mitch's after he accepts hisslacker attitude and begins to turn over new leaves in his life.Always dependable Alan Arkin is Mitch's Dad .

So funny I was really surprised!

This movie is not your typical change bodies movie. Justin Bateman &Ryan Reynolds were hilarious & you could tell they had fun making themovie. The language & nudity fit the R rating, but this added to themovie. Definitely adult theme & a little over the top,but I did enjoythis. Olivia Wilde was great and also was Leslie Mann. The baby twinsof Justin Bateman were really funny & the scenes were a total surprise.Worth renting, will make you laugh out loud & like the characters. Themovie did drag a little in the middle, but did make up for it with thegags. I really like the chemistry of Justin Bateman & Ryan Reynolds.Justin Bateman is so subtle in his comedy.

Funniest Movie of the Year HANDS DOWN

Got to see a private screening of this last night and I have to say Iwas thoroughly impressed. This movie has it all! I laughed constantlyand the jokes seemed fresh! Although the concept isn't new, the storywas completely refreshing from other comedies out there...that is why Ithink it will be a success. I highly recommend this film to anyone wholikes the hilarious and raunchy R rated comedies...Another great thing that sets this film apart is the story. Revolvingaround some real "family" issues...the way the humor is played outdoesn't counteract the drama being played out as well. Great story!Great cast! Awesome!!!

Should have known better..

Nothing new under the sun. This movie made me yawn more than twice. Wemeet two friends that accidentally switches body, one stupid looser andone less stupid (lawyer). Being 'switched' they decide to stand in foreach other, and does one stupid thing after another - I mean can anyonerelate to the looser? The looser somehow pulls himself together and bythe end of day two(?) seams to have grasped everything about the bigbusiness merger/takeover that his friend had been working for in monthsand becomes the hero. Someone wrote that this is adult humor? Adult?Humor? Stupid, stupid film. Had it been made some 30 years ago, I'd bemore forgiving, but today? The score of two goes to the fact that the actors are good looking, anddoes what they can with the awfully boring script.

Well done buddy comedy

Director David Dobkin has done some pretty good comedies in the pastthat include Shanghai Knights, Wedding Crashers, and Fred Claus. Dobkinhas followed those with his newest one, The Change-Up. Just like he didwith Crashers and Claus, Dobkin introduces us to his main characterswith a scene before showing us the title. In the opening scene, we meet Dave (Jason Bateman). Dave is asuccessful lawyer with a loving wife and three young kids. Dave has towake up at three in the morning to get his kids to stop crying. We thenmeet his best friend Mitch (Reynolds), who is a big time slacker. Mitchdoesn't have a stable job, hooks up with many ladies, and doesn'treally care about his father, who is his only family. They both haven't seen each other in a while. One day, Mitch asks Daveto hang out at a bar with him, get a beer and watch the baseball game. They catch up on what is happening with each other and think that theother guy has the better life. They urinate in a fountain and say "Iwish I had your life." A power outage happens right after they say it.The next morning, they both wake up and realize that they are in eachother's bodies. Now Dave and Mitch must act as if they are still themselves even thoughthey are not themselves. Bateman and Reynolds nail these roles verywell as they show that they are not themselves. Both Bateman andReynolds stand out as the two leads, especially when they have to actlike each other. Some other key players includes Leslie Mann as Dave'swife, who has played a role like this many times before. An even bettersupporting player is Olivia Wilde as Sabrina, a young associate lawyerat the firm Dave works at who reluctantly agrees to go out with Mitch. She has some better moments as an actress.Like Crashers, Dobkin has made another good buddy comedy. He focusesthe film on his two leading men and all the crazy shenanigans they gothrough together.Something else I liked about Dokin's film is that he puts a goodmessage in them. In Crashers, his message is about the importance offriendship. In Claus, he has a message about doing what is right. WithThe Change-Up, he shows us that you really don't know what you haveuntil it's gone.

Worst film I've seen in 20 Years.

I would imagine this film will appeal to a lot of men (and women Isuppose) who enjoy soft porn. There's a pornographic scene (of type)about every 5 minutes. After 5 of them, I walked out. There's isnothing funny about this film what-so-ever. It is cheap, bathroom humorat the lowest point. I'm actually disappointed in the actors that theywould stoup so low to even consider doing this film. Are they seriouslythat desperate. I didn't look up the information to see if this was adirector that originally did pornographic film because he might aswell. I haven't asked for my money back from a theater in 20 years. Idid today.

Funny, funny movie with a cute plot

Truly awesome comedy with heart warming story line. This was one of thefunniest movies ever and I would rank it as good as the first Hangover. The actors they chose are beyond perfect for the parts. Ryan Reynoldsand Jason Bateman are beyond awesome together, one as the lazy, partying single bachelor and son of a wealthy father and the othermarried to a perceived nice wife and two great infant children workingas a lawyer. It is great to see with other guys that have been or aremarried as they can relate! A must see and I bought it on Blu-Ray forfuture viewing when I need some good laughs! It is not suitable forchildren as there are some serious sex scenes and strong language.Wayne Gorsek

The terrible twos: tired and tasteless

Free admission to a movie is not to be taken lightly these days sincethe average ticket is roughly the cost of your mortgage payment. Freeadmission was the only reason I went to see this travesty since afriend had an extra ticket. What is there to say about this movie otherthan it's a premise that has been done to death over the years. There'snothing new here in body-switching land we haven't seen before. Twowildly diverse personalities make a wish and presto! They're now ineach other's body. The characters have to be complete opposites for thecomedy hijinks to begin, right? So, instead of bringing anything new tothis sit-com level flick, the director and writer give us raunch Xinfinity. You can tell you're in trouble when the first sight gag isbaby poop by the gallon. It goes downhill rapidly from there, but whereit ended I didn't see. I left after the "wife on the toilet" gag aboutnot eating Thai food anymore, which you can see in the trailer forfree. When will the public realize that Ryan Reynolds is only the bodyof the moment? He can't act and seems to think every movie he's in is a"Van Wilder" sequel. Everyone else in the cast of this grimy movie isequally bad, somehow equating fecal matter with fun. There's a fetishterm for this kind of behavior that starts with the letter "c", butit's not "comedy".

Cliché cliché cliché

We've all seen it. Hollywood frequently come back to the paradigm ofchanging bodies(or places). Background changed up a little bit in Thechange up but its still a cliché. Humour is very low and first fewseconds of the movie explains it very vividly but if you ll manage tolook pass it ll get better. I personally liked scenes with Olivia Wildshe has really strong screen presence (or maybe its just because she sodamn HOT). Anyway there will be few laughs and few WTF. Although filmis predictable and starts off awfully I must say its one of few that Iliked among 'OMG we changed our bodies' clichés.The story is about 2best friends Dave Lockwood(Jason Bateman) and MitchPlanko (Ryan Reynolds) which after drunken night change up theirbodies. That of course lead to awkward situations, gags andrediscovering your own I. Dave is a lawyer with 3 kids and lovingwife.Mitch is completely different person without career, living like amen-child and chasing skirt all the time (he also had daddy issues).Jason Bateman as an actor (and probably as a person) completely lackscharisma so he s tailor made for role of Dave. (btw he always play thesame guy). The thing is that after the "change" it just doesn't workany more. As douche he cant convey anything beside few facialexpressions. Same goes for Reynolds although he doesn't act he justlooks pretty. But who da hell cares about acting while watching lightand for most parts brain-dead comedy.I recommend it to all those who have not much experience with cinema. If want to have some fun and leave cinema rather with a smile thenwithout this is for you. For the rest of us it will work only whenwe're sad at the moment with out anything better to do. Oh and whatsimportant we get to see Olivia almost naked +1 for da movie thanks toher :P

Spoiler?? I hope so

What could have been a good movie, though not original in any way, wassmeared by the use of words and visual images having to do with bodilyfunctions to include eliminations. Anyone who thinks that "sickeningly"gross is humorous does not have much of a life. The actors involvedapparently needed the work and they sold out by not demanding that thescript be cleaned up and that the humor of various situations be atleast presented in a less juvenile, street punk, manner. As for theplot, it could have been expanded on, without the non-sensical scenesthat were apparently added to make an hour and fifteen minute movielast for one hour and 46 minutes. Movie makers have become filthoriented and seem satisfied to make films that will be easy forgotten, even though the bad taste will be with the viewer for some time tocome. There just are not any movies being made today, by the currentmorons that one will want to view again.. Take the money and run boysand girls and forget about true entertainment...

Rated "R" for all the right reasons

It's rude, racy, and raunchy.Body swap movies are not very original but this one works. Goodperformances all around. The guys are believable when they become eachother. Olvia Wilde is stunning. Leslie Mann,(Mrs. Apatow) always seemsreal.Get past the language and the baby pooh in the mouth scene. Perhaps itgoes over the top and some might be offended. The baby banging his headagainst the crib my not fly in all circles. Going to a theater where wecatch a flash of "Animal House" seems like a bit of comedy envy. It's a tad long for a comedy but it succeeds in the number onerequirement of a comedy. It makes you laugh out loud and often. It hasheart. It's a fun time at the movies.
