A retired spy (Jessica Alba) is called back into action, and to bondwith her new step-children, she invites them along for the adventure tostop the evil Timekeeper from taking over the world.I must confess up front that I am not familiar with the "Spy Kids"franchise, and only watched part four because it was sent to me forreview. Based on other reviews, this is supposed to be -- by far -- theworst in the series, and I hope those reports are right, because it issomething of a stinker.I am still confused about Robert Rodriguez. He makes kids films, hemakes gory films. He hangs out with Quentin Tarantino... he just seemsto do it all. This may be a blotch on his record. But the point I wastrying to make (poorly) is that I cannot really follow his train ofthought on writing movies...Was anyone offended by the pregnant fight scene? I was not, but I cansee other people getting upset. Did anyone else think there were fartoo many time puns? Did anyone else think it was far, far toocoincidental that Joel McHale wanted to make a show about spy hunting?I mean, he has no history with spies and coincidentally has a spy wife. How does that happen? And how does he not know about the panic room? I do hope this is the end of an era... the kids have grown up andAntonio Banderas does not even bother to show up. It is time to moveon.

I liked the films Spy Kids and Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams verymuch because they captured the tone and sensibility of the best familycinema, naughty and subversive but without falling into the vulgarityand without insulting the audience's intelligence. However, I found thethird film of the saga (Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over) stretched the concepttoo much and lost the focus on the character, making them lose anygrace. Now, the fourth film Spy Kids: All the Time in the World triedto resurrect the franchise with a new family of spies, some characterswe already knew and a potentially creative screenplay which did not endup being as ingenious as it could have been. The final result is anentertaining, but not very memorable family film, which is verysuperior to the third one of the saga, but very inferior to the firsttwo ones. The actors from Spy Kids: All the Time in the World make a good work intheir roles, starting by the kids Rowan Blanchard and Mason Cook, whoare likable and spontaneous. Jessica Alba and Joel McHale have a goodchemistry with each other, and also feel natural and credible, withoutexaggerating the humor moments nor forcing their emotions during theobligatory scenes of family conflict (Oh, no! The father works a lotand doesn't have any time to be with his sons! The kids miss theirbiological mom and resent the arrival of their father's new wife!). Igenerally don't like Alba's performances, but I have to admit she madea competent work in here. However, what I most liked in Spy Kids: Allthe Time in the World is the dog Argonaut, in part because of theanimal's charm and ability, and in part because of Ricky Gervais'energetic voice work.As for Robert Rodriguez's direction in here, it feels kinda impersonal;like if Spy Kids: All the Time in the World was only a clause in hiscontract with Dimension Films, or a quick source of funding for him tomake a movie in which he is more interested. Nevertheless, I had a goodtime while watching Spy Kids: All the Time in the World despite notbeing very memorable, and I can mainly give it a moderaterecommendation mainly as a casual entertainment to spend a pleasanttime with the whole family. But if you wanna see genuinely creativefamily cinema, I recommend you the first two films of this saga, or theunderrated Shorts, which was also directed by Rodriguez.

I don't think this was a bad film, granted it wasn't a good film butfor me I couldn't help relate it back to the original movies and inthat sense I think it did well, it didn't stray too far from theoriginal plot lines and I liked that because I was afraid after allthese years it would have changed completely. So many of these reviews rate it as "cheep and crappy", well it'sdefinitely cheap, the graphics are pretty much exactly the same as theoriginal films and its not going to win any awards for being abrilliant flick but the movie wasn't made for YOU, it was made for thekids.I think as a kids movie, or family movie, it does well and I believethe children will love it just as I loved the originals when I wasyounger. Yes the plot is cliché and predictable but to a kid it's awhole other world where they can be a hero without growing up.

Stunningly, the combination of the Weinstein Brothers, Ricky Gervais,Jeremy Piven, Joel McHale, Jessica Alba and Robert Rodriguez results ina not just a cinematic mess but not even an interesting cinematic mess.Gervais and McHale are among the smartest men in comedy and yet thefilm isn't even fleetingly funny. Rodriguez and the Weinsteins makesvisually inventive pictures and yet the film is a bewildering assaultof cheesy CGI. The core problem may be the writing  the characters mayjust have nothing funny or interesting to say and Rodriguez may havetried to overcompensate by having the animators work overtime. Thewriters certainly display a high level of ambition. The plotconjectures about the nature of time and toys with the paradoxesinherit in traveling backward in time in between fart jokes and ashopworn stepmother plot. To complain that children will not grasp theplot falsely suggests there are adults who get it. In short, there arefar more entertaining children's movies require a lot less effort onyour part.

What can I say, I thought it was a good movie. I already watched thelast ones which were quite good (part 1 and 2 were very nice! Afterthat it went all down-hill). But part 4 really beats the cake. Alright, special effects are OK, but the rest is just hogwash. There is just notempo in this film whatsoever. I think even tiny toddles will cry whenthey see this piece of garbage!!! Please, I beg you. Let the Spy Kidsgrow up to be real men and stop with the series! Now I know why this film was chugged on DVD as fast as it could: torake up even more money from gullible customers... well, one things forsure. I saw this movie for the first time last week and it wasimmediately the LAST TIME!

It's terrible. It's a tragedy that both Jessica Alba and Joel McHalefrom The Soup played characters in this. Butt-bombs, barf bags, etc. Ittakes toilet humor to the extreme. Sure little kids will find itenjoyable, but anyone over the age of 10, stay away from this and neverlook back! Also 4D, really? Doesn't most moviegoers hate 3D? Why 4D?It's just 3D, but with those stupid pop-up numbers to make you scratchthe number and smell those stickers that smell worse the cigarettesmoke. And one last thing. A TALKING Australian-ACCENT DOG (no joke)with face-palm inducing one-liners such as "Somebody put that onYouTube." and stuff like that. But there is only one thing that I likeabout this movie. Carmen and Judi are back. They got the originalactors that played them and was defiantly a nostalgic tribute to thefirst 3 movies. All in all, just save your money. If you really want tosee how bad it is, wait till it comes on RedBox.

This fourth "Spy Kids" picture isn't so much bad as it is just boring, lacking the buzz and brio of even some of the earlier entries in the series.

Anyone who hates this movie as much as some of the previous reviewersdo, has obviously forgotten what it's like to be a kid.The latest addition to the Spy Kids collection has at its core thevalues that all the previous movies had as well - it's all about kidsbecoming more mature, and about pulling together as a family. Sure, Icould do without quite as many fart gags, but I never liked those whenI was a kid, either. Featuring Jessica Alba as Marissa Cortez Wilson, and Alexa Vega and Daryl Sabara returning once again as a grown upCarmen and Juni Cortez - the original Spy Kids - this movie has somegreat action sequences and special effects, and it all adds up to agreat experience for kids of all ages - even kids who are all grown up.I loved all three previous Spy Kids films, and even primed myself bywatching them again this past week. I took my 15 year old daughter tosee this one for her birthday today, and she absolutely loved it, asdid I. She hasn't seen all three of the other ones, so she didn'trecognise any of the cool gadgets at the OSS' Spy Kids Division, butthat didn't keep her from having a really good time. I hadn't watched amovie in 3D in probably 30 years - back when you had to wear thosegoofy green and red cardboard glasses, and if you didn't wear theglasses you couldn't make any sense of the picture - so watching thisin the relatively new RealD 3D format was a real treat.Score: One point off for the modernized version of the failed"SmelloVision." My daughter and I both decided to abandon the "AromaScope" cards after the first three scents really didn't smell like muchof anything. But a bonus point at the same time because unlikeSmelloVision, which blasted the smells right in your face, now you havethe option of not using the scratch-and-sniff cards if you don't wantto. So one point down, and one point up. But one point off for havingjust too many jokes and gags based on bodily functions. The movie wouldhave been just fine without them. I give it an 9 out of 10.

You may want to count your blessings that, for a movie filled with dog farts, baby-diaper 'bombs,' and kiddie vomit, the 'fragrant aromas' are mostly absent. But at least scratching-and-sniffing is something to do while you pray for the film to be over.

Yes, Robert hasn't lost his touch. When a man has that much talent andimagination, you wonder how long he can keep it up. He is a genius, andI don't use that word lightly. He has invented a new kind of moviehere, with the spy kids series. A movie that empowers children insteadof what Hollywood has always done with children's movies. The spy kidsmovies are a refreshing change and I'm glad to see it continuing. Thefirst three were ground breaking and very special. I was so glad to seethat this one lives up to that. Although not as good as the first two, which were superb, I rate it about the same as the third one. It may behard for some to embrace the new cast, which happens every time a newJames Bond is cast. I think everyone is just as likable as theoriginals. Reviews that cut down the acting, plot or whatever don'tunderstand what Rodriguez has done. This movie, as with the otherthree, is for children and people who love children. If you don'tconsider yourself in one of those categories then you won't get it.

... a shiny, complicated toy that's silly and doesn't really do anything, but is fun to play with.
Jackie K. Cooper 28 April 2012
Kids might enjoy the cheesy jokes, the shiny gadgets and the pooping dog but for adults it is snooze time all the way.
Cath Clarke 28 April 2012
Sadly it's all fart jokes and smart-alec preteens - the stuff that can make taking kids to the pictures a chore.
Linda Barnard 27 April 2012
A pleasant time-waster kids will love with a pro-family togetherness message parents can appreciate...
Mike Hale 27 April 2012
Feels more like straight-to-DVD filler than a chapter in one of the last decade's most entertaining and sophisticated family-film franchises.
khannasameer85 27 April 2012
One of the most Awaited Movies of the year and it surely delivers. Theidea of time being sped up is really well thought of by the directorand come honestly how many $d movies have you seen Off lately. Theadded dimension to the movie of Aromascope is basically smell and youhave to experience it its totally fun. The movie is fast paced andgripping and all the character do justice to their roles. The chemistrybetween Jessica Alba and the new spy kids is very endearing whereasJeremy piven plays his part amazingly well. The movie is well justifiedkeeping in mind the target audience and assures to entertain kids aswell as adults. Totally worth a watch

Don't take your kids to see this. I never thought I would say this, but take them to see The Smurfs instead. It's a smurfload better than this pile of smurf.
Teddy Durgin 26 April 2012
Time has really not been kind to this series. It wasn't missed, and the new film is loud, crass, and annoying.(Content Review for Parents also available)

even the tangiest of confections lose their flavor eventually. For Spy Kids that "time" has arrived...
Marc Savlov 25 April 2012
Far more coherent than its immediate predecessor, Spy Kids: All the Time in the World in 4D benefits greatly from its two likable young leads and some of the series' wittiest, pun-filled writing.
