I'm a total sci-fi, horror, and alien movie fiend. Aliens have alwaysfascinated me. The simple idea of them existing, all the differentdesigns of them throughout film history, I love it. So this movie, forme, was a no brainer. I won't say that I was disappointed by the entirefilm, but the last 20 - 30 minutes pretty much ruined it. I won't explain the entire plot, mostly because all the reviews I readalready covered it. I, unlike some people, enjoy the technique ofslowly and suspensefuly drawing out the reveal of the monster/creaturewhatever. Two of my favorites are "Super 8" and "Cloverfield", and theyplayed off your imagination and growing desire to see the menace.Whereas "Super 8" and "Cloverfield" utilized this, when we finally getto see the creature up close it's a powerful moment. "Apollo 18" triesits butt off to do this, but fails miserably. For one, the reveal isFAR too short, letting us see the moon menaces for about 2 seconds inthe whole damn film. Seriously. And, as others have said, they arealmost laughably ridiculous. There is absolutely NO explanation as towhy these friendly astronauts are being attacked. They didn't mess withthe creatures, or anything. They aren't even the type of beings whocould eat humans. Maybe all of this would've been able to be looked over, if only we weregiven any sort of time with them. Too bad, cause it coulda been reallygood.

Have to admit i've been excited about the concept of this movie since iread about it about 7 months back... However, i also have to admitthat, given it's release date, I was a bit worried that it would windup a stinker...I went in with adjusted expectations, wanting to enjoy it but alsopreparing for the worst..I'm happy to say that it winds up a pretty effective little conspiracy-theory chiller..The producers really do a great job of building tension in thiscloseted, isolated atmosphere, to an agonizing crescendo and thendelivering with some truly horrific imagery.Really wound up liking this one.

December, 1974. Two American astronauts are sent to the moon on a topsecret mission funded by the U.S. Department of Defense. During theirmission the astronauts discover something awful and deadly on the moon.Director Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego, working from a tight and absorbingscript by Brian Miller, does a bang-up job of creating and maintaininga great deal of claustrophobic tension and makes the most out of thecramped confines of the lunar landing module. Better still,Lopez-Gallego ably crafts a spooky atmosphere that becomes moreincreasingly grim, eerie, and unnerving as the story unfolds towards adevastating downbeat conclusion, with an especially bleak and harrowinglast third. Moreover, Lopez-Gallego's fine eye for meticulous detail, the lo-fi, yet nifty and believable special effects, and therough'n'grainy documentary-like style add a certain frighteningplausibility to the fantastic premise. Kudos are also in order for theexcellent and convincing acting by the three capable non-star leads:Warren Christie as the amiable Captain Benjamin Anderson, Lloyd Owen asthe rugged Commander Nathan Walker, and Ryan Robbins as the easygoingLieutenant Colonel John Grey. In addition, it's refreshing to see acurrent fright feature that downplays gross gore and cheap scares infavor of nerve-rattling suspense and a scary gloom-doom mood. A realnail-biter.

What a terrific piece of junk. This was clearly the worst excuse for amajor motion picture release I have seen since Paranormal Activity 2.Take a huge piece of crap like Paranormal Activity 2, mix it with atotal waste of time like Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (2011), toss inyour very worst Super 8 home movies from the 1960â²s, add a pinch ofstupid campfire stories and you will still end up with better qualitythan Apollo 18. It is such a bad a film, it's insulting. For starters, the actual filming was awful. When I go to see a majormotion picture release, I expect quality cinematography. It is fine ifthe director wants to toss in a film reel or two from 1972 NASAarchives, but even old NASA footage is of much better quality. TheBlair Witch Project (1999) had better editing and camera work. Why doesthis entire film look like it was filmed with a rusty Super 8 homemovie camera? Terrible acting, worse writing and a stupid plotÂit's asure fire ticket to oblivion. This film should get targeted in aconsumer class action lawsuit for fraud. This only positives were that it was over before I died and it had a0.0 P Factor. Trust TMG, do not waste your time or money. Find an oldtube television that does not work and stare into it for an hour and ahalf in a dark closet while eating popcorn. You will get the sameeffect.

Yes, the concept is catchy, but Apollo 18 was just dreadful. A horrormovie that could have been remarkably better. I am embarrassed I satthrough it all. The plot just didn't make sense and the scary-nessfactor was formula and unrealistic. An un-announced mission is sent tothe moon to set up a security station, but things start going awry whena strange moon rock ends up in one person's suit and embedding itselfin his stomach. Infection sets in and time is running out. A Russianmoon lander is found and apparently the infection has already gottenthe worst of them too. Why was this mission supposedly sent out? Thatissue was never addressed.Save your time and money...Apollo 18 is a no-go. I found myself cravingto watch Apollo 13 with Tom Hanks again to flush out my system.

Following the craze revived by "The Blair Witch Project" (it had beendone before with movies like "Cannibal Holocaust" and "The LastBroadcast"), "Apollo 18" presents itself as footage of NASA's "last"voyage to the moon in the 1970s, showing us the "real" reason why wenever went back. Through said footage, we follow the exploits of threeAmerican astronauts - two on the lunar surface and one in orbit abovethe moon - as they discover that the moon is hiding a terribly darksecret. Apparently, there's something already there which has nothingto do with either the Americans or the Russians, and it doesn't want usthere... or maybe it does, but for unpleasant reasons. This is not aspoiler, by the way; the trailer reveals as much. The pros of this movie include, first and foremost, that it's a ratherunique idea for a story. Ever since man has first walked on the moon, there really has been no speculation of whether or not the moonsupported life (and no, I still believe it doesn't), and ever sinceApollo 17, there has been speculation on why we never returned (thoughit likely has more to do with time, money, and risk than anythingelse). Another pro is the film's realistic look; the lunar landscapeappears realistic, and the special effects are convincing as well. Asfor the scares, they're plentiful without being overly so."Apollo 18" is not without its flaws, though. One thing that had mescratching my head is the high amount of gravity which was shown insidethe lunar landing vessel. Contrary to popular belief, there IS gravityon the moon as well as between any two forms of mass, though it's notnearly as strong as what we would find on Earth. You can see theastronauts jumping at large distances while walking on the lunarsurface, but not inside the lander. Secondly, I kind of wish they haddeveloped the lunarian creatures a little more. The filmmakers usecreative camera work to keep several things hidden, which does help addto the suspense, but I still think it would have helped things more toshow the lunarians a little more. In spite of these flaws, the filmkept my interest.I see a lot of people hating this movie. While they have every rightto, I'm kind of lost as to a reason why. No, "Apollo 18" isn't a greatfilm, but it's not terrible, either. Just take it for what it is.

Today, I went to see Apollo 18, as it looked very interesting. I'd sayit was. So apparently, we have this "found footage" aspect of the movieto be the plot. Hey, even if it fake, if I was cool with this in"Cloverfield", I'm cool with it here, despite what anyone else mightcare to think, thank you very much.Because of the lost footage aspect, whoever had this idea wasrestricted to making it look like an Apollo mission, and at this job, this succeeds. Wait. The critics collectively thought this sucked?Well, screw those bozos. All they ever do is eat, sleep, walk theearth, and write negative reviews. I thought the camera stayedrelatively true to its Apollo heritage, which is what this movie wasaiming for.Okay. The character development was bad, but what did you expect? Didyou expect Ben Anderson and Nate Walker to slowly turn into Batman andthe Joker? The movie isn't ABOUT the character development. It's abouthow these two astronauts explore the moon and find out theseweirded-out Moonian insect-parasites are plotting to feast on theirflesh.Hey, this might be the case in the future. NASA could decide to screwthe retirement of the Apollo franchise, send 18 out on a mission to theMoon, and those weirdos could attack the astronauts NASA sent out, which would results in the actors laughing their butts off and thedirectors would be saying "I told you so." Of course, NASA could alwaysend up reading this and decide that I am some pile of cow dung whoshould go screw himself and not launch another mission to the moon justfor the purpose of being jerk-offs to mere people like myself.Instead, take satisfaction in the fact that this would be a great movieto watch for a sleepover that requires watching a horror movie because, let's face it, this horror movie actually WAS scary. Hey, you couldhave a nightmare in which you were in the Moon dealing with theseweirdos. Also take satisfaction that this actually explains the nature of theseextraterrestrial killers. It'll disguise itself as rocks and awesomelytransform into these little spidery devils that can't wait to have itsnext meal. Yum yum.But hey, what do I know? I'm just some crazya$$ buffoon who thoughtSkyline was actually a decent movie, loathed Shutter Island, andthought the first act of A Clockwork Orange was whimsical. The onlything you should worry about when deciding is whether or not youactually want to see it, not what these "critics" have to scathe aboutit, like normal people do. (September 7th, 2011) Grade: B-/B (7.7/10Rating) P.S. If you didn't get the satire by now, then "Ding DingDing", joking around is now the answer to the equation 1974e divided bythe negative square root of -37 pi.

I understand the affects and why they filmed it that way, but bad idea.We could not see nor understand what was going on through the entiremovie. I don't usually ask for my money back after a bad movie, but inthis case, I could sue for pain and suffering. Good try, but in a casewhere something is missing, well in this movie, everything was missing.Don't waste your money on this film unless you just need a cool placeto take a nap. I feel very sorry for the director, producer, the actorsand anyone else associated with this film. A lot of hard work I supposeand nothing in return. Oh well, we all have to learn from our mistakesand I am hoping they did so the next film won't be a flop.

I am going to be plain and simple. This movie had so much potential.Filmed kinda like 'Paranormal Activity', this movie could have gone somuch further. Seeing as this is my 1st review, and it was a MUST, sinceI had just gone and seen it. This movie should be taken down from allcinemas across the world. I stood outside the doors and watched aspeople left shaking their heads in disappointment. (I myself and agroup of friends, doing the same). I Asked around if people enjoyed thefilm. Not one, NOT ONE! enjoyed this film. It had its moments if iwould say so myself, but nothing that stopped me from standing up andleaving, as a matter of fact, i did so, while everyone (in the theater)laughed as i took a walk of shame, not for me, but for this movie. Igive it a 2 of 10, and thats for the effort. The acting was very good, and the overall visuals were also top notchbut the script could not hold up. If your looking to watch a decentalien movie, I would say 'Attack the Block' would be a 10x better filmthen this. I give credit, though. It is tough to compete with all thesenew movies, and more edgy crowd. Everyone wants 10/10 movies, even me,but this could not even hold up against my love for crappy movies. Ilove horror, but this, this was not even close to a horror. NO jumps,no screams, just... crap. My opinion is my opinion, if you still wannasee it, sure go waste 10 bucks, but i would wait till it comes out onDVD, but even then i would advise going over to a friends house whobought the movie, cause i would not waste another cent of this.-Dan

If you put Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity through ablender, the result is this frightening journey into the realm ofastronauts and their 'real-life' encounters on the moon. Directed byGonzalo Lopez-Gallego and produced by Timur Bekmambetov, the sci-fihorror centers around a fictional premise of an actual Apollo 18mission that was launched in December 1974, that supposedly neverreturned and as a result, signified the real reason why the UnitedStates never commissioned another expedition to the Moon. It is awell-made film that is gripping in its style and will draw you deeperinto the unknown. The reality of what really happened is overshadowedby the immense possibility of what could have happened. This is whatmakes it so intriguing, the fact that there is no distinction betweenthe what if and the what did.

I'd been looking forward to this film for months after seeing a posterfor it. The concept of a secret 18th mission to the moon drew me ininstantly. After hearing a few mutterings from critics though, I was alittle worried it might not be quite the film I wanted it to be.However, after seeing it tonight I'm happy to report that it's justwhat I expected :)I'm a fan of The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity and thisfilm fits into that genre. The special effects are brilliant. At no point did I believe theyweren't on the moon. Which is daft, but honestly, they were great. Thefeeling of impending doom and isolation was quite palpable and I tellyou this, I can't remember jumping back in my seat so much in ANY filmbefore at certain bits! All in all a good solid film.

Oh my goodness gracious, what do we have here? I really do not knowwhat to say. First off, I am really tired and sick of all of thehand-held camera type of filming. It is really cheap and stupid! Eversince Blair Witch Project, movie studios have been humping Hollywoodwith all these hand-held camera crap. I really am sick of that. Filmdirectors seem to like to do the cheap way of filmmaking. Well, I gottatell yeah, this is not how you are going to surpass making movies inHollywood. I usually never go to the bathroom in movies, but this was the firstmovie in a long time in which I did. I just had to stop watching andtake a breather from such a bad movie. I swear that there were momentswhen people in the theater, including me, were laughing and rolling oureyes at all the 'scary moments' this movie had. If they wanna pretendthat this is real, at least have some good effects, to make it seemreal. I bet you a third grader could do better effects than they didhere. So, in case you did not guess from this review: TERRIBLE!

This movie is bad enough that giving it a mark out of ten ismeaningless. On the pass or fail scale it fails on multiple levels.First half the movie is very slow. Sometimes in these type of movies, this is to be expected.Second half of the movie is creepy/shocking at some points but has noreal substance. If you're anything like me, you'll walk out of the theater wondering ifthe ending or the antagonistic forces could have been any more cliché.We've all seen this movie before--it just wasn't on the moon and therewere way fewer digital effects to make it seem like the movie was shoton film.Paranormal activity was MUCH more effective at drawing the viewer in;skip this movie for now and thank me when you "rent" it.

STORY: Apollo 18 is a found-footage type of movie where it takes placein 1974. Two astronauts were sent on a mission to go to the moon, andsince then, they had never returned to earth.THE ACTING: The actors in Apollo 18 looked like they had no idea whatthey were doing. I don't want to discuss the actors' performancesbecause they were pretty bad.MY THOUGHTS: Back when the movie came out in the beginning of Septemberof 2011, I had absolutely NO interest of seeing Apollo 18. But sincethere wasn't another movie to see in theaters, I decided to go see itjust for the heck of it. After coming out of the theater and beggingfor Apollo 18 to FINALLY end, I had to say that this movie is not onlyone of the worst movies from 2011, but one of the worst movies that Ihad seen in my life. The camera-work used in this was incredibly lazy. The pacing for themovie was slow in which I almost fell asleep through a scene or two.Even if Apollo 18 is a found-footage movie, it just looked unbelievablyfake all around . It also has one of the most anticlimactic endingsever. And also, there were absolutely no good qualities about thismovie at all.IN CONCLUSION: Not only Apollo 18 was an incredibly boring, slow, lazyand uninteresting found-footage movie, it's also a contender for beingone of the worst movies that I had seen in my life. Every time I thinkabout this movie, especially after seeing it in theaters - I hate iteven more than I actually did before. Avoid this movie like the plague.0/4

This movie is like a practical joke, saying at the start that this isfound old footage, as the movie went on I believed it. Then when thecredits roll, it says directed by, and starring, it's like the jokes onme. Why couldn't they say, this film is based on theory. Don't say thatthis found footage, your like trying to insult the audience. It was shot in the style of a documentary. It did have a few goodscares, and the two leads do alright, the material they are giving. AndI wished they could showed the enemy in a unseen sort of fashion. Butthey don't even do that. I would have liked it better if the filmmakerswould have been more honest, instead of trying to deceive the audience.

(May contain spoilers) I would say this is a good movie if you need toburn some time. The scares works quite OK, i was sitting on the edge ofthe seat when stuff started to happen. BUT, the first 45 minutes wasvery slow and and felt quite boring and drawn out. But overall, i would say watch it if you have some time to spend. It isslow and a bit boring in the start but picks up at the end. The endingit self was very predictable. The alternate endings are actually quitefun. I liked those better, mostly because you get to see more of thecreatures on the moon. My personal favorite ending was ending 3. Butoverall i liked it, but i am also a sucker for the jump scare movies. If you liked the PA series and movies like that i would say give it arent.
love_razor 07 May 2012
In all honesty, this is as far as I can go. What I say about this filmis the only way I can honestly articulate my thoughts on this movie. The script, written in rainbow colored crayons. The producers, writers, and directors, could not have been more than twelve years old, or withany education past the sixth grade.I could have gone to the sewage processing plant, swam in their poolfor an hour and a half, and come back with the same sensation I didafter viewing this film.At no point did the movie entertain, or capture the mind with any senseof quality or merit in the concept. I give this a 0. I only rated 1because it did not have 0 as an option. The 80s movie Creature was farsuperior, and for those of you who've seen Creature, you know it issaying something horrible to claim it was better than any movie. Please do not watch Appolo 18; I ask you out of compassion for thebetter of your mind and intelligence. I have seen many a strait to DVDlow budget film which were far superior (again, think of Creature). Ican't believe A18 was let into theatres. Recently, I watched the lastHellraiser: Hellworld and it was better, and I didn't even see morethan five minutes because it was so bad, but if I had to choose, Iwould watch all of Hellraiser : HW than 1 minute of A18.SPOILERS: Moonrocks come after the astronauts and kill them all. Itwould have been hilarious if not so boring. Boring, idiotic, andridiculous, and boring. Boring; boring and stupid. I only type so muchagain, out of compassion in the hope I can save people some good time.

This is like the Blair Witch Project. The difference is that it takesplace on the moon. Totally Shot with shaking cameras and first personviews. There is something creepy out there and the characters in themovie don't know it. And sure hell we don't either. There is somebumping around in the low gravity environment and rocket languagefilled with strange acronyms like 'R2D2' which no one can understand.Overall it sure is a science fiction which speaks of creatures on themoon other than a rabbits. Just watch it if you fancy space stuff. Buttotally avoid it if you fancy horrors and thrillers. My advice is watch "Moon" (2009) 3 times instead.
weissaa 05 May 2012
where was the plot lead up?, this movie tried to be artsy andhistorical while being fictional at the same time, it couldn't reallyaccomplish this with the lack of plot build up. it relies mainly onscenes of panic and "what the hell just happened" situations, whilethis works at startling you, it never really adds to a plot that isbased on an event that seems to be true, but not true, it all seemsvery vague. movie made me jump a few times, but over all, not that impressed, thereare a few better ways they could have gone about delivering the story. If you have seen such movies as Quarantine, or other raw film shotmovies, and you like that style, you might like this, but if you preferthe more professionally shot horror films, go see something else.if there was a little more historical base for the film, i think itmight have been better over all.
