The show is just three episodes old. I couldn't resist myself to writethis review. New Girl is fantastic. Cuteness Personified. Zooey justovercast others by her natural charisma. This show is best show in thisfall. The good thing about the show is that it has huge potential andCreators are wisely using it. They have successfully developedcharacters, especially Zooey's character, Is that girl really outthere? I would like to fall in love with her. Zooey gives complimentsto writer's imagination by her acting. Format is very simple and now a days it rarely comes on TV. I thinkthis show going to stand apart from rest of other comedies.

You would think this would be perfect for me - I'm a 21 year old girlwho LOVES random crap - but this show just... sucks. Zoey is provingyet again that she can't act, she plays the same 'ditzy, cute randomgirl' in every movie. She does things in this that infuriate me. A lotof people out there are going to watch this and think OMGZZ SHE'S SOOOOFUNNY AND RANDOM!!! I even grimaced at some of the things she does. Shetries to make her character funny by singing at random times andquoting 'nerdy' movie lines. It doesn't come off as funny though, itcomes off as WOW you're trying too hard to be random. The only character I like in the whole series so far is Winston. Heactually made me laugh out loud and definitely made me smile. I guesshe's the one who's keeping me watching this crap attempt at comedy.Don't like it if you dislike Zoey - you'll hate her even more.

I was really excited about this show when I first heard about itbecause I absolutely LOVE Zooey Deschanel, and I love her quirkypersonality and sense of humor. But I feel there is something lackingin all the other characters. The most disappointing is the Nickcharacter. He's down and out, and supposed to be down-to-earth, but Ihave a hard time liking his character. He gets jealous too easily andmakes a big deal of little things. He's not very interesting and I findhis confidence lacking. I really wish he was more laid-back, he seems alittle uptight. So I can see that the show wants Jess and him to gettogether at some point, but I really think his character needs changesbefore that happens.I like the Schmidt character, I think it's hilarious how he tries sohard with women, and is obnoxious in a funny way. I don't see Winstonas really connecting with the other guys, kinda seems like he doesn'twant to be there. And the girl that Nick is dating is pretty much areplica of Zooey, I think her personality should be more distinctive.Anyways, I hope the best for the show, it has a lot of potential withsuch a fabulous main actress, but the other characters need change andmore depth.

1. The jokes are like they are written by Compute Science majors withno sense of originality. These jokes are 10 years behind when they notfunny then either. It's very painful.2. I understand that the writers are trying to capitalize on the 'Zooeyis eccentric but good looking' thing and the awkward unrealistic comedyroutine that has been done to death and better by 1 million other filmswe had to sit through. By the way, Zooey sounds like drunk pee weeHerman.3. Check this out:Comedy character financial and social status by country:UK - Low income families in small town houses. Realistic lifestyles.Australia - Middle class families in average houses by the beach. Alittle unrealistic adventure lifestyles.USA - Massive apartments or mansions. Every character is beautifulunless they want to roast some unfortunate less attractive person.Chorus lines in public places (zzzzzzz) hooded clean jumpers loungingin 4 million dollar apartments when they have no job. People that havejobs are advertising executives and high power lawyers about to makepartner and all these completely un-realistic demographics to make theaudience envy people that have 'better' more affluent lives. Ego.4. So, basically, a TV series that tries way to hard and I bet getspulled due to its unoriginality and blatant saturation of the egocentric rich kids living in massive downtown apartment stereotypecombined with micromanaged social problems based on the charactersplain stupidity and lack of awareness of what is important in life.I would give it a 0 (zero) but I am not allowed to vote that low. Maybeeven a negative double digit number.

I actually like this Jess (Zooey Deschanel), she is both cute andfunny. But I fear that the guys of this show ruins it for me. I reallydon't like any of them and they cant really act. This Schmidt dude orwhatever his name is so annoying and isn't realistic at all, and wherehis unrealistic attitude should be replaced with funny and hilarious. There is annoyances. However there is always hope and i wouldn't liketo judge it now but my guess is 7/10 for this season, I'll take thisreview down if I am wrong. Lets hope the guys are dynamic shall we.Think positive and hope for the better. I just hope that this doesn'tget worse, I would love to see more Zooey!!

I found this comedy to not only make me laugh but it managed to be attimes very cute but not sickly. The first American sitcom I have seenmanage this balance, it is pleasant and inoffensive. There were times when I couldn't watch because of the cringe factor, which is something that many US sitcoms often lack. OK the lads are notBAFTA winners, but we have to admit that but Zooey is amazing and farfrom steals the show and makes up for the lads and lets face it, she'sthe girl next door. Men want her and women want to be her. There were moments I cried with laughter. Well done for finally makingthis and please hurry up and make a second season.Jinni

I think this programme is wonderful and very well cast. Each characterhas his/ her own personality and they are all very likable. Jess isfantastic - a real breath of fresh air. I actually know somebody verylike her and I thought she was unique until I saw New Girl. I love theopening song. It's so catchy I find myself singing it often. Given achance I think this programme could be the new Friends. It's similarbut different and more up to date. I hope the characters keep to theirpersonalities and don't develop in a way that spoils them. I felt thewriters sometimes did this with Ross in Friends making him look stupidrather than geeky.I do hope they don't cut the opening song or shorten it. I want to hearthe whole song at the beginning of each episode. It cheers me upconsiderably and puts me in a much better mood than I might have beenin before it started.

This sitcom has also been played out many times before. It's been done, and overdone, and we are tired of seeing it. First, why would thesethree men need a roommate? Why would she move in with three strangers?Too contrived to be convincing. Zooey is cute, but she is exactly thesame in every single thing she is in. I kept thinking of the movie Elfand that naiveté that was at once cute and annoying. Here it is moreannoying than cute. This one will be cut from the line up soon and with good reason. At anytime, on many stations, you can find similar situation comedies playingout before your eyes. Most are done better.I don't think there can ever really be a workable remake of Friends. Itruly wish they would stop trying. It is the ruin of many careers.

Really fast.Always liked Zooey. Just didn't realize it was in small doses. No doubtabout it now however because she got really annoying really quickly. And if ever a pair of legs were made for jeans not skirts, they'rehers. The guys are bland and trying so hard not to be. Schmidt is suitablycringeworthy but he does have his moments. The writing too is repetitive. Awkward sex, conversation, singing andon and on and on... Just how much awkwardness can you stand.Broke girls is unfailingly obnoxious but still manages some realchemistry. New girl has none of that. No really watchable characters tospeak of.Will stick to watching her movies.Wish them well.Thank you.

TV comedies --- they're so many that you can't possibly watch them allunless you're unemployed and don't sleep regularly. The real questionright now is which one has something new and exciting to offer. How about New Girl? New Girl is about Jess (Zooey Deschanel), a womanwho moves in with three guys to deal with her break-up issues. It is not every day that someone as well-loved as Zooey Deschanel getsher own TV series. She may not be up there with the Oscars people butshe has legions of fans that will support whatever material she appearsin. Thankfully, these fans will not be disappointed. She takes on hercharacter Jess with such familiarity. Jess is without a doubt oneeccentric lady, but one whose innocence and frivolity get to you. Ifind it odd that she would be dumped by her ex Spencer (IanWolterstorff), but let us just assume that he was intoxicated duringthe time he made the decision and was not thinking very clearly. =) The show relies on awkward humor to keep you watching, and for the mostpart, it works. I am happy to say that it doesn't have a laugh track. Ithink we have enough of those already and it gets in the way ofdetermining whether a comedy is actually funny or just supposedlyfunny. Regarding Zooey's support, her crew of guys seem to haveinteresting personalities, but given that the pilot is only 20 minuteslong, it is not enough to determine whether they will be a goodcomplement or just bring disaster. The concept of the show is likable, although not the most original. Somehow, I can't help but think aboutRyan Reynolds' Two Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place in the late 1990s.One thing that I hope New Girl can overcome is becoming repetitive.Aside from Jess going on random dates and the guys helping her, whatelse can happen? To answer the question I posted earlier, no, there isn't something newabout this show except we get to be treated to a regular dose of ZooeyDeschanel (which is good if you're a fan but sort of worthless if youaren't). However, don't get me wrong. I liked watching the pilotepisode of New Girl. I didn't find myself gasping for breath or fallingoff my seat, but it definitely has its funny moments. Jokes were not asflat as I expected them to be. Many people were skeptic about theshow's future but since that it has already been given a full seasonorder, I expect it to at least last another season.Give it a shot, folks. And keep your fingers crossed. We want more ofour Zooey!

My title says it all. Here's what I have to say about it:For what it was it was kind of funny. It was witty. It got boring. Iliked it but it is very vanilla. There wasn't enough flavor to keep meinterested. Honestly, I'd be surprised if this show got another season.I only think that the rating are 7 plus because the only one's thatreally rated it, liked it. When you weigh this show with other showsthat have a similar time slot . . . It just doesn't match up. I reallydon't like the girl that plays the main character, Zooey Whatever-It-May-Be (Honestly, I'm just too lazy too look up how to spell her lastname). Maybe I just don't like Jess, Zooey's character, that much. Sheis way too over the top, way more dramatic and crazy silly than mosttheater people I know and she is suppose to be a teacher? She's more ofa kid than the kids I know. I know that Miss Whatever-Her-Last-Name-Iscould have taken that script and portrayed a less eccentric character. The guys are cool and all but none of them are memorable either.I honestly, don't see this show surviving and it should be pulled offair so that another pilot of a better show can be aired.
nephalinesyenite 04 May 2012
Aftering watching 9 episodes of this show, and reading many of the IMDbreviews I thought I'd give a quick review.Zooey is quirky and charming as Jess, and yes sometimes the Jesscharacter is annoying or is written in such a way that her behaviorseems stupid. Not as bad as Sarah Silverman on her show, but still abit over the top. If you can't stand the Jess character, then you won'tbe able to watch more than a few episodes of New Girl. Jess's roommatesNick and Schmidt are enjoyable, and are recognizable roommatearchetypes...I've known guys much like them. The Winston characterisn't quite working, but more is revealed about him in episodes 7&9.Certainly I do agree with other reviewers that Jess needs to be writtenwith more character development. At this point I feel that I know moreabout the roommates than I do about Jess. Why was Daman Wayans Jr. replaced after the pilot? Well he is on anexcellent comedy called "Happy Endings" which is in it's second season.Since actors never know if their shows are going to be renewed, or if anew pilot will be picked up, sometimes casting changes have to be madeif actors are committed to something else when a pilot is finallypicked for development. I would heartily recommend Happy Endings toanyone who watches the New Girl, it is funny, and quirky, has a greatcast, and I personally believe it's better written than New Girl (andfunnier). Why continue to watch the New Girl? Any show that has engagingcharacters, silliness, and can make me laugh, is worth my time. Someshows need time to "simmer", and do improve and I hope this one will.Sure beats tired comedies such as 2 1/2 men.

The show features the trials and tribulations of 3 male friends and aquirky, recently single female (Zooey Deschannel). Deschannel has beenenjoying growing success and critical acclaim following her part in'500 days of summer' 2009. Her she is perfect as the anchor of theshow, embodying the geek/adorable template exceptionally. And from thepilot onwards we are drawn to her like a moth to the flame. It's a light hearted, non Âserious comedy series that is hit and miss. The more I wanted to enjoy the show the more it seemed to struggle.Throughout the first series there are genuine moments of hilarity thatwill have you wiping the tears from your eyes. Unfortunately these canbecome lost in the banal and bland comedy of some of the other scenes. From episode to episode you will find yourself reassessing youropinions on the show and its characters. Daschannel successfully playsbetween the beauty and the geek in such a natural way we are never surehow to perceive her which also forms the underlying comedic dynamic ofthe show. The other characters that share the screen unfortunately sink belowpar. Damon Wayans Jr's character was a balance between the absurdlyarrogant Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and the pessimistic downer that isMike (Jake M Johnson). But he only features in the opening episode andis soon replaced by Winston (Lamorne Morris) much to our bewilderment.Little in no reference is made to this and Coach is never seen again.Other than very bad test screenings we can only assume that DamonWayans Jr has jumped ship for bigger fish. The show is a similar offering that we have seen strewn out over thelast few years. We have seen 'Awkward' the high school version, 'Cougartown' the mid-life/divorcée version and here we are offered the middleground. Out of school, but not yet near marriage the feel of the showis light and quirky with some random but deliberate references. We areoften dropped lines concerning recent fashion trends (Jeggings, and'deep v's') and even the obscure sexual practices that has made theshow somewhat of an underground success (For your own education you canlook up 'give me the hat' it was certainly new to me) These help keep ayouthful sense to the show and keeps the humour aimed towards thetwenties demographic. It's fun, unobtrusive comedy that is an easy watch, especially after ahard days' work. The ever adorable and sexy Daschannel will have mosthooked to the show be it for her striking blue eyes or her impromptudancing/singing/beat boxing. The show could be a lot tighter and moredepth is needed for the characters but so far as light hearted comedygoes this should do the trick for the new year months.

Overall it's a pretty funny show but Zooey Deschanel is too busy overacting. The supporting cast does a good job, as do the writers butDeschanel is too over the top. Trying to hard to sell bad jokes and actcooky. She needs to calm down and tone it down and the show would bepretty good. The supporting cast of her three male roommates and model best friendare solid role players. Max Greenfield is great as a typical "financeguy" jerk. Jake M. Johnson is a good wise old sage of a roommate who isthe smartest of the bunch but for some reason has limited himself to bea bartender. Lamorne Morris is a good glue guy. Has a certain level ofcool about him but is good to hold the group together and play whateverrole is needed for the story line. Hannah Simone plays the Deschanel'sbest friend who happens to be a model. OF course the roommates all gogaga over her.

I tend to take a while when I write IMDb user reviews, because I takeplanning them seriously. Nevertheless I was glad to write another oneon an adult series, and this is one that I'm pleased to write about, although only partially because of the charm of Zooey Deschanel.Jessica "Jess" Day is a spunky, quirky, geeky young teacher who justcaught her boyfriend with another girl while she tried to surprise himby stripping naked in front of him. So, she breaks up with him andmoves to another apartment that she found on Craigslist. The thing is,she really hasn't changed too much since she was in Junior High School, and all three guys at her apartment are annoyed with her antics. Thoseguys are Bartender and equally jilted guy Nick Miller(Jake Johnson),corporate lawyer who thinks he's god's gift to women, Schmidt(MaxGreenfield), a former Coach of some kind(Damon Wayans, Jr.), andex-Latvian basketball team member, Winston(Lamorne Morris). Plenty hasbeen written about the sudden replacement of Damon Wayans Jr. withLamorne Morris, so there's not much that can be said... other than thefact that at least they didn't try to pull a Darren Stephens on us.There are already comparisons being made to another perky brunette whohad a sitcom around 1966(Hmm, let's see... diamonds, daisies,snowflakes,... Eh, it'll come to me.). The show and the main characterare plugged as being "adorkable," but I have to admit, I originallyfound her to be more "dork" than "adorable." In the first threeepisodes, her supposedly quirky personality was hard to tolerate atfirst. She sings out of nowhere, making up her own songs on the spot, watches sappy movies and sobs uncontrollably at them. Luckliy she hasat least one friend, Cece Meyers, a model played by the breathtakinglygorgeous Hannah Simone. This is yet another case where the secondbanana outshines the star. Luckily, not that much thanks to the bubblypersonality of Jess and the actress who plays her.

I am a big fan of ZD, she's pretty, talented and funny and has theability to pull off both quirky and disparate roles. I just find it oddthat she signed up to do this show, not that it's too much out of hercharacter acting ability. I think she has been let down by the qualityof the writers. I hope that she is allowed to fly a bit in futureepisodes. I don't see a future for this show otherwise. The co-actorsare really lame in my opinion, but that maybe because I don't recognisethem thus don't know their abilities.......definitely better writingand better plots will help. Good luck Zooey! I can't get enough ofwatching you doing comedy !!

Wow, I stopped by IMDb to see how the ratings were for New Girl andcheck out a few reviews. Gee whiz people, lighten up. Bottom line, ifyou like Zooey, you will like "New Girl". She's quirky, she's funny, she wears fake teeth and talks with a British accent at weddings. Yes,it was a bit disconcerting when Damon Wayons Jr was replaced (it's nothis fault that "Happy Endings" got picked up and he couldn't do bothshows) but Lamorne Morris is doing a fine job. Sidenote: Somebody tellDWJr to get "In Living Color 2" started. Damn, he looks just like hisdad. Oh, and for all the h8rs out there...the ratings are freakingfantastic for Fox. Booyah!

I will not post insults without a developed criticism. Here are myproblems. She is like a piece of candy but I need more substance thaneating all of her sugary fake "acting". Her character is who she is inlife and that is not tolerable for this amount of time on the tube forme. Zoe may be a funny side character or bit player but she makes mytummy ill with all of the fake sugary stupid mugging. Way too fake andfull of "image" blink blink blink with the over the top eyes and thestupid look of being so out of it? The bangs the eyes the silly outfitsand the "i'm so out of it" look. Just STOP IT and try 'acting" insteadof making yourself a "brand". I do not care if she makes tons of moneyor is super famous. She is not an actor that takes her craft seriouslybut is looking for a hook...has found that hook and won't get off of itand give it a rest. Seriously ZD.....give it a go and try somethingdifferent to prove to us that you have a thought besides the singlebeat that u won't put down.

The 1 star review that shows up when I looked this up on IMDb isridiculous! I watch quite a few shows (way too many) and this onegenuinely gets a smile on my face without cheap tricks, fake laughter, annoying punchline tunes trying to convince me what just happened wasfunny. The main characters in this show are already memorable in the pilot, they just have chemistry straight away. A lot of shows that I reallylove now didn't start off as well as 'New Girl' has for me.The 'formula' feels fresh to me, I haven't seen this show before inanother form and I absolutely love Zoey in this. Her personality inthis show is exactly why I fall in love in real life. Just watched thethird episode and I'll be sure to tune in next week!
