A lot of fun, people are taking it too seriously.

A mixed bag, but most of it ended up on the positive side for me. Thecharacters are all pretty shallow and there are a lot of small thingsthat made me roll my eyes but the plot is so wild that me thinking,"Oh, a person would never react that way." didn't stick in my head formore than a few seconds because it's just not the kind of movie wheresomething like that matters at all.Besides, at 80 minutes it's not like there's time to dwell on thecharacters much, which is a nice thing because it all feels slimmeddown and plot-driven instead of having a bunch of tossed in dumbmoments where the actors improv for no reason for five straightminutes. Along with that, having such a short running time the littleunnecessary slips into dramatic territory only exist for a coupleseconds so there's no time to really be bothered by it. It doesn't havethe kind of wild adrenaline that Zombieland had, but it's stillexciting and I can easily say that I wasn't bored for a second, whichis rare these days. The cast went back and forth for me, Aziz Ansari pretty much made theentire film, he had me cracking up whenever he was on screen and mybiggest laughs came from him just being Aziz basically. The wholecomedic cast just played into their wheelhouses essentially, whichworks for some of them and doesn't for some others. Michael Pena giveswhat is probably the most annoying performance I've seen all year, Ireally wish people would stop giving him work. I like Jesse Eisenberg, but there was some stuff with him that just didn't work for me at allhere. He's great at the awkward comedy, but he's so unconvincingwhenever he tries to be abrasive or vulgar in any way. The former worksfor the character but the latter definitely didn't and it came out asreally forced and uncomfortable. There were some individual lines that I was stunned actually got into afilm with this caliber of people involved just by how stupid they were, but for the most part I found myself in a constant state of enjoymentand the bank robbery scene is one of the funniest of the year for sure. Also ended on a really big laugh, which is always a plus to leave mesmiling.

Not even worth a free screening pass

The first 30 minutes are upbeat and the comic relief is par. Once theplot begins, McBride's relentless babbling just wears on the senses, dragging everything else good about this film. This movie could havebeen much funnier if McBride's character wasn't so annoying. If itwasn't for Jesse and Aziz this movie would have been a complete flop.About half way through the pre-screening some of the audience memberswalked out, I wish I would have as well. I thought the soundtrack wasprobably the best part of the film. Overall disappointing coming fromFleischer, the director of Zombieland. I would like to see more fromFleischer, just keep McBride at home next time.

" Sometimes fate pulls out its big ol' cock and slaps you right in face."

I saw this today at a special screening at a movie festival in Dublinand I went in having not read anything about it, seen any trailers orreally heard of it at all before buying my ticket to movie fest. And I must say, WOW. I was impressed. While reading the currently VERYnegative message boards for this movie just now, I felt I had to writea review to defend this movie as best as I could. Some people called it flat or offensive. I feel going into this movieyou need to be lighthearted and open minded. The whole screen (over ahundred people, I guesstimate) loved it. It was a total laugh out loud, witty, hilarious comedy with excellent performances from the two mainleads, particularly Eisenberg who kills it every time for me. I laughed at all the jokes and enjoyed every second of this film.Definitely a stand out this year for me and I would definitely see itagain. Please try to keep an open mind going into this movie as it deals witha very serious topic. Otherwise it is hilarious and throws in somegreat laughs. Definitely a must see for Eisenberg fans and fans ofcomedy in general.

Disappointed..

Most misleading movie title ever. It was longer than 2 hrs. Caught thismovie at a screening today. From the time i saw the first trailer, i hadhigh hopes for this movie. Turns out, most of the jokes are already inthe trailer.Reason i went for this screening: I am a big fan ofZombieland. Movie takes too long to setup the characters and premise.Coming from the director of Zombieland, this movie is abouthalf-engaging as Zombieland.Aziz Ansari gets the best lines. Jesse doeshis stammering- with-heart-of-gold again. Danny Mcbride is funny for ashort-while, then goes to be creepy. Michael Pena again plays aHispanic thug. The movie is not probably as bad as i make it to be, butif i didn't enjoy it after seeing it for free...

Inconsistent Writing

While the premise of this film leaves much room for hilarity, as shownby the promising trailer, it was unable to capitalize on this due towhat feels like a lackluster effort on the part of the writers. Thereare many tell-tale indications of this, such as in the inconsistency ofthe characters. Palpable tension is generated between characterswithout any warning, and then it is forgotten by the next scene.Another glaring issue was the pacing of the story. If you saw thetrailer, you would think it centered around this bank robbery by twonormal guys. However, this is only one small piece of the movie. Theopening was simultaneously slow and somewhat insufficient, theneverything sped up tremendously, and then the latter half of the filmwas dragged out to fill up the remaining time needed for the movie tobe taken seriously. In all, I would rate this film a 6.5/10 since it was still entertainingand done by clearly talented actors. However, note that this is farfrom their best work, probably because the actors were confused aboutwho their characters were.

Funny. Fast. Forgettable.

30 Minutes or Less delivers on its pretty simplistic premise make theaudience laugh by strapping a bomb to the main characters chest andthrow every sexual innuendo and hilarious situation the creators couldcome up with. Some may find this movie an abrasive with its crude humorbut it manages to stay true to what it was marketed as and in doing socreated a funny , fast and forgettable comedy.30 Minutes starts off promising establishing each pair of maincharacters ( the good guys and bad guys) and keeping a rather low humorprofile only throwing funny and some not so funny racial and sexualslurs. After the low life pizza driver Nick (Eisenberg) is abducted andgets the bomb strapped to his chest by the free loading son of amillionaire Dwayne ( Mcbride) the movie begins to escalate quickly. With Nick's predicament causing his emotions to spike he seeks hisfriend Chet (Ansari) for help. This causes crazy anxiety between thetwo friends and the movie wisely runs up the pace considerably. In thislies 30 minute's greatest strength (being fun and crazy) and weaknessbecause although the movie picks up a lot of speed it also concludesitself way to early to leave you feeling satisfied (under an hour and ahalf run time for sure). This leaves a few well constructed charactersleft literally to die… All in all there isn't much to say about this movie. Its short ,unoriginal and doesn't really reach to be great by any means. Howeverthis movie knows it is all these things and presses onwards regardless. At times the jokes are very well placed and had my audience and myselfin an uproar, while others some jokes completely missed and fell flaton there face. The ending came way to quick and felt way to simplifiedand unfinished. What the movie nailed for me was all the big fouractors stepped up and kept the main story funny (Mcbride, Eisenberg,Ansari, Swardson).Overall rating 6/10

lost potential

I waited months for this movie to come out. I thought the actor fromSocial Network was flawless in just about everything he's done lately, including Social Network. Also, I like the lead bad guy when I've seenhim as a supporting character in movies like Tropic Thunder. The otherguys, each of their sidekicks, I really didn't know much about, and thesame with the lead girl. Just the same, I went into the movie the way Ialways go into a movie, with an extra large popcorn, soda, and at leastone box of candy, and a willingness to laugh. Was it me or did most ofthe jokes fall flat? I felt there was a lot of opportunities but no onetook advantage of them. It felt like I was almost forcing a laugh hereand there because I wanted to laugh, and I did at times, but I feellike it was flat overall and not that funny. If it was supposed to bemore of an action movie, that didn't work for me, either. The lead badguy is funny in supporting roles, but as a lead bad guy, he's a no go.Also, was that movie only like 80 minutes with the credits? It feltreally long for 80 minutes.

Great Comedy, Better Than Horrible Bosses

Went to a screening and was really excited because I wanted to see thismovie based on the plot and the actors. And it actually exceeded myexpectations. I've seen most of the summer comedies this season, suchas: Bridesmaids, The Hangover II and Horrible Bosses. I woulddefinitely put this on par with Bridesmaids (rated it a 8) because Ifelt that I was laughing the whole time as was the theater. (I likedHorrible Bosses but thought it was going to be funnier; still rated ita 7)I liked the dialogue between Aziz Ansari & Jesse Eisenberg and theyseemed like the had true chemistry. Michael Pena totally stole the showfor me though! He was awesome. Every time he was in the scene, he hadeveryone laughing! Danny McBride and Nick Swardson were very funny too!Who ever did the casting in this movie got it right. There's a lot of outrageous comedic moments and if you like sillymovies, then definitely go see this! Highly recommended! **8 Stars**

Why all the negativity?

I Feel as though I'm being overly generous giving "30 minutes or less"such a high score, seeing as reviews for it in general seem to bemixed. But I found it seriously entertaining. Especially when comparedto some off the other let downs I've seen lately.I'm quickly becoming a fan off Jesse Eisenberg, considering most thingsI've seen him in have been ace. These include "Zombieland," which thisis a follow-up too, considering the same director is behind it too, aswell as it having the same star.Flick sees Eisenberg as a pizza delivery guy who is forced too rob abank when 2 bad-guys in ape masks strap a bomb too him and tell him hewill be blown up otherwise. He then goes too his friend Aziz Ansari(Who gets most off the laughs in the movie) too help in pulling such afeat off.The reason I loved this film is that I think it could off worked justas well without the jokes. There's more going on than I've mentioned inthe short paragraph above. There were different aspects too the plotwhich itself could go in any direction, and was different andunpredictable. Off course it helps when the film is also very funny. Isee people complaining about some off the crude moments in the movieelsewhere. I'd usually be on the same side as those guys if I'd foundit to be too much, but I really didn't this time.

Movie_Muse_Reviews 27 April 2012

Super quick runtime accounts for laughs, but not great storytelling

Director Ruben Fleischer should call the "making of" documentary ofthis film "86 Minutes or Less." The filmmaker who landed squarely onthe Hollywood directing hot list with 2009's rollicking sleeper hit"Zombieland" has crammed the action and laughs into another unusuallyshort runtime. Distinct advantages exist to the "all business" attitudetoward filmmaking, but "30 Minutes or Less" reveals the criticality ofgood writing in making something like this work. The narrative of"Zombieland" is much tighter, but "30 Minutes or Less" still packs thelaughs into a sufficient summer action comedy."Zombieland" star Jesse Eisenberg helps out Fleischer again as Nick, asimilar loser in the form of a pizza delivery guy, only Nick is muchcruder and gutsier. The neurotic hopeless romantic that theOscar-nominated actor perfected prior to said Oscar nod only rears itshead in the freak-out moments resulting from having a bomb strapped tohis chest by a pair of monkey-masked amateur criminals who've given himnine hours to rob a bank.Although we know that synopsis coming in, the film spends at least 20minutes attempting to properly set it up. We meet Nick, adisappointment by all accounts, and his longtime friend Chet (AzizAnsari), a school teacher. Somehow they provoke each other to the pointwhere Nick reveals he once slept with Chet's twin sister Kate (DilshadVadsaria) in high school (that he's still secretly in love with) andChet lashes back with the secret that he pushed the first domino inwhat resulted in Nick's parents' divorce. Needless to say, the two endup on bad terms before Nick comes to him the next day desperate for hishelp in solving his time- sensitive predicament.Meanwhile, Dwayne (Danny McBride) and Travis (Nick Swardson) get anunusual amount of back story for your typical dumb criminals. The twogood-for-nothings decide to take action when Dwayne's lottery-winningex-marine father provokes them by calling them out on their lack oflife direction. Dwayne convinces Travis, a weapons and explosivesexpert, to help him plot a way to kill his dad and get his inheritanceso they can open up a tanning salon that will front for a prostitutionring. They decide to hire a hit-man (Michael Peña) whom they must pay$100,000 and ultimately determine the smartest way to do that is toforce someone to rob a bank for them. These scenes give thosecharacters too much needless motivation, but the extra screen timeprovides McBride and Swardson lots more opportunities to make us laugh. For a film that should feel suspenseful if for nothing else but theimplications of the title "30 Minutes or Less," this juggling ofsubplots dampens the pace. Humor does flow constantly throughout, however, and Eisenberg's desperation to make this all seem very realand frightening in tandem with Ansari's gift for not being tooself-serious work in the film's favor. If only the camera didn't dartaway from them as often as it does and kill whatever momentum theybuilt.Broken down into categories, "30 Minutes or Less" gets good marks forcomedy, but sub-par marks for action because the writing doesn't fuelthe action like it should. Fleischer has not lost any touch in what'salways a challenging sophomore effort; he simply doesn't get as good ofstuff to work with this time around. Fortunately, the four maintalented comedians offer up enough to make this one a worthwhile 86minutes or so.~Steven CVisit my site at http://moviemusereviews.com

sick, that's what this 'movie' is

Believe it or not, this is based on a real event that happened in Erie, PA in 2003. Two criminals wanted to raise enough money to hire a hit-man to kill the father of one of the criminals in the hope to gain the insurance money. They conned a pizza delivery man, Brian Douglas Wells, into their plot to rob a bank. They told him the bomb they were strapping around his neck would be a dummy. However, when the date came & the 2 criminals had strapped the bomb to his neck, it was real. Wells was given a shotgun & a list of tasks. He was told that if he did not complete a task in time that the bomb would go off, but the 2 criminals never intended to let him go and kill him after he completed his tasks. When Wells tried to rob a bank, the police were called. Wells told the police that a bomb was strapped to his neck and that he was ordered to rob a bank or the bomb would go off. Even though the police tried to disarm the bomb, they could not & Wells' time ran out. The bomb exploded, blasting a fist-sized hole in Wells' chest.I can not even comprehend what those last moments were like for Brian Wells, as he was forced at gunpoint to have a live bomb strapped around his neck, but I'm sure it was not comedy. I'm sure it was completely and utterly terrifying. This plot has led to stories for crime dramas, and that is fine, but not the plot for a action comedy. That is just sick.Save yourself money if you want the whole story, you can find it on Wiki. Just look up "Brian Douglas Wells."

I Enjoyed it More Than the Critics, Apparently

The critical reviews of this movie serve as a reminder that I can'talways trust the professionals to assume whether I'll find a movieentertaining or not. Just about every review I saw for director RubenFleischer's action/comedy 30 MINUTES OR LESS tore it apart, even thecritics I find myself in general agreement with. It wasn't enough tokeep me from giving it a chance. I mean, come on….it's got an awesomecast and the director of ZOMBIELAND. I opted to skip the movie intheaters but caught up with it on home video, and I don't see what allthe negative fuss is about. I thought the movie made for a great time.It has a couple flaws but nothing that would go on to ruin theexperience for me. 30 MINUTES OR LESS is the story of two wannabecriminals (Danny McBride and Nick Swardson) who need $100,000 to hire ahit-man. Needing the cash and not wanting to get their own hands dirty, they nab a pizza delivery driver (Jesse Eisenberg) and strap him into ahomemade bomb vest. Now he has ten hours to rob a bank for the moneyand get it to his captors or he dies. The clock is ticking as pizza manNick enlists the help of his best friend Chet (Aziz Ansari) in robbingthe bank before the timer on his chest reaches zero. Apparently thereare a lot of complaints that this movie closely mirrors real-lifeevents in 2003, but I doubt it was the filmmakers' intentions andhonestly I couldn't care less.Action/comedies can be tricky because you need to ensure there is agood balance of both genres, and I think this movie accomplished justthat. The action is a given based on the plot and the comedy arisesfrom the actors involved. Danny McBride, Nick Swardson, and Aziz Ansariare accomplished comedians; on the other hand, Jesse Eisenberg and(particularly) Michael Peña are known more for their drama chops andprovide some of the best laughs in the movie. I still love McBride butI'm worried that he's becoming a one-note actor, and 30 MINUTES OR LESScontinues his same schtick. If you look at his more memorable movieroles (PINEAPPLE EXPRESS, YOUR HIGHNESS, and cameos in OBSERVE ANDREPORT, DUE DATE, etc.), he's always playing the over-confident,less-intelligent slacker with an ego, which he does again here asDwayne. He does it well, but I'm worried it'll be the only thing hedoes. Nick Swardson does some great stand-up and I loved his recurringbit on "Reno 911", and he brings his effeminate doofus routine to thismovie as Travis, Dwayne's partner in crime. Aziz Ansari, I'm still notsure about. I didn't see what all the hype was about when he was Randyin FUNNY PEOPLE, as his brand of comedy seems to be saying things veryloud. He's not bad here and has some funny moments, but I remain on thefence. Jesse Eisenberg is fun, even if it's hard to take him seriouslyas a slacker after his performance in THE SOCIAL NETWORK. But thefunniest man in the movie has to be Michael Peña as Chango, thehit-man. I died laughing in all of his scenes. He's funny, high-pitchedlisp and his hit-man bravado…seriously the funniest parts of the wholemovie. There's obviously plenty of improv in the movie, which means the comedycan be hit or miss depending on who's in the scene. Improv in the wronghands can lead to a lot of desperate rambling as someone scrambles tofind a worthy punchline (thankfully, most of the improv in the movieworks). I really don't know what a lot of the critics took issue with. It's a little weird how the movie is split so evenly between theprotagonists (Nick and Chet) and the antagonists (Dwayne and Travis),which means we get less time with the "heroes" of the movie. But thematerial with Dwayne and Travis is just as funny, if not funnier insome cases. The purpose of this movie is to make the audience laugh andtreat us to a few well-done action sequences to amp up the energy. Icould have done without Glenn Fry's "The Heat is On" during the carchase sequence, but I guess director Fleischer was trying to inject an80's buddy vibe to the action. Meh, it sort of weakened it. In the end,30 MINUTES OR LESS is a great movie to watch with some buddies over acase of beer.

brucev13 21 April 2012

Nope

In 30 minutes or less you will know what direction this movie is going.I really tried very hard to like it. But the little real humour thatwas to be found here was not enough for to convince me to like. Firstof all I can't believe that Ruben Fleischer who directed the brilliantZombieland is also responsible for this title. They story doesn'tflow, the characters are not that bad but far from likable. And theaction is average although the intro scene with the main characterEisenberg racing does promise a lot. Aziz Ansari is almost the only onewho is able to provide some laughs. Only don't expect too much of itbecause the jokes are very obvious.Don't waste your time with this one.

Twodude Review 20 April 2012

Good Dude Comedy

In the spirit of funny adult orientated, short summer movies 30 Minutesor Less fits the bill. Without giving away the storyline it is a uniquestoryline for a comedy and it plays well with the humor. The movie doeshave good flow but the actors walk through their lines quite a bit. With this cast I wasn't expecting King's Speech and I didn't get it.The movie cast is filled with TV actors and you can tell, the filmswriting and improvisation feel made this movie really funny. I think agreat deal of credit should go to writer; Michael Diliberti hisplacement was fantastic. This movie is written really well, with a lotof lines that make you say, did he really just say that. To me that iswhat I am looking for out of a comedy. The movie plays on an edgy plainin which Director Ruben Fleischer, Zombieland, went back to a guy hewas familiar with in Jesse Eisenberg, Zombieland, Eisenberg plays the"victim", Nick, in the movie and at times does it well at times but hereally seems uncomfortable in the part. Danny McBride, Dwayne, aveteran comedic actor is what he is also and that part is what you getout of him here, almost the same character he plays on Eastbound & Downwithout the baseball. He does deliver some really funny one liners thatcould end up on t-shirts. McBride's sidekick in the film is anotherveteran comedic actor Nick Swardson, Travis, Swardson does play thesimple sidekick real well and delivers some really funny lines as well.My favorite character is the one played by Aziz Ansari, Chet; thestraight faced and quick witted comedian is really funny and helpsEisenberg along the way to get laughs out of his lines too. The moviedoes have two attractive actresses that have spent most of theircareers on TV in Dilshad Vadsaria and Bianca Kajlich. Neither reallybrings anything all that important to the movie but both are underlyingimportant characters. This is not a movie that I would gone out of my way to watch based onthe trailer but it was a movie I was glad that I saw. It certainly doesnot have a warm and fuzzy feeling like a romantic comedy and that isnot what this movie tries to be. It is funny if you like crude lines, not a lot of nudity but there is some, the movie didn't need it to be agood dude flick. '30 Minutes or Less' delivers the goods!

The trailers make this film out to be a very simplistic film. Theywould have you believe that the only reason they are kidnapping thepizza guy and strapping a bomb to his chest is so that he'll rob a bankfor them to get them some cash. There's more toppings on the pie thanthat in this movie and it is very funny --- is it worth going to thetheaters to see? Why not... you could do much worse.. I enjoyed the way 30 Minutes or Less opens. First we're given theNick/Chet storyline and then we're given the Dwayne/Travis storyline.Nick (Eisenberg) is a twenty-something year old pizza delivery guy. Hisroommate is Chet (Ansari), a newly promoted to full-time teacher. Nickis in love with Chet's twin sister, Kate (Vadsaria), but Chet doesn'tknow it. When this information is found out, their friendship looks tobe on the skids. Dwayne (McBride) is a spoiled rich kid. His father, known only as The Major (Ward), won a state lottery years ago and isburning through the cash at an alarming rate. Dwayne concocts a schemewith his best friend, Travis (Swardson). Together, they conspiretogether and plan to hire a hit-man to kill The Major so they have therest of the lottery winnings... but a hit-man costs around $100,000.That's when inspiration strikes. Nick goes to deliver his final pizzaof the night and wakes up to find the ticking vest around his chest.Panicked, Nick goes to his old buddy in the middle of a class and begsfor his forgiveness and his help. The first act has a lot of set up, so it does move at a slower pacethan the rest of the film, but once it gets going, there's no stoppingit. It's a wild and hectic ride once the bomb vest is attached to JesseEisenberg. I loved how the film presented some problems that I wasthinking of myself, yet I didn't care to think beyond the problem, butthe film does and takes everything to a whole new level once thatproblem is resolved. They just keep throwing one scenario after anotherat the main characters, never really giving them a chance to settleinto their surroundings. A funny moment does come precisely at one ofthese scenes when they are at home desperately trying to figure outjust what they are going to do, disconnect it or call the police? Cuthis arms off or pray that google search has something useful? The action and the jokes fly fast and furious on this one. All of theactors involved bring their A-game here and stepping up noticeably isAziz Ansari (TV's Parks and Recreation). It's as much a buddy comedy asit is an action/comedy. The actors play off each other so well, youwould think that they all hang out together on the weekends and teaseeach other about who did who's mother. A very funny scene in particularwas the actual bank robbery, don't worry, these guys are professionals, they've seen Point Break, because that movie is practically a how-toguide on how to rob banks. Even the ending was very satisfying will all questions answered and nota single loose end to be had.. gotta love the foreshadowing the writersand director had in mind for the ending and Aziz even gets to spout offone more one-liner before the end credits. Be sure to stick aroundafter the credits for another hilarious bonus scene. More reviews at www.soveryterry.comFinal Grade: B+

What Humour?

Everyone is saying it is the funniest movie of the summer. There was nohumour in this movie. I didn't hear a laugh in the whole theatre. Itwas so boring I was waiting for the bomb to go off so the movie wouldbe over.I thought from the director of Zombieland it would be a lot better. CanI have my money back? The language and sex were a turn off. Near the end it did get a littlebetter..only because maybe the end of the movie was in sight. NickSwardson was the stand out character. If there was comic relief it camefrom him. Wait for the DVD to come out save your money.

Dumb and dumber (and dumberer & dumbest) odd coupling comedy/actioner has its moments with fine comedic chemistry.

30 MINUTES OR LESS (2011) ** Jesse Eisenberg, Aziz Ansari, DannyMcBride, Nick Swardson, Michael Pena, Fred Ward, Bianca Kajlich,Dilshad Vadsaria. Dumb and dumber buddies (imbeciles McBride andSwardson not exactly a stretch for either) hatch a hare-brained schemeto conduct a murder-for-hire by abducting a pizza delivery driver(Eisenberg) and strapping him with a bomb to rob a bank for thenecessary funds (!) Very loosely based on a real-life incident (withdecidedly more grim results) this goofball action comedy has itsmoments primarily between the on screen odd-coupling of twitchy/brainyEisenberg and his best bud Ansari bringing the sharp sarcasm and theTweedle Dee/Tweedle Dumb rapport between McBride and Swardson (theformer coasting on his 14th minute of fame for his increasinglyboorish, obnoxious persona; not much of a stretch here!) While directorRuben Fleischer keeps things on a laugh/bam-thank-you-ma'am even keelthe script by Michael Diliberti & Michael Sullivan runs on fumes.

I'm Done Kenny... I'm Done.

Oh how it aches my heart to speak these words... Kenny Powers we aredone. If you are not familiar with the name, it is Danny McBride'scharacter in East Bound and Down. All the crude laughter and clevercringe humor that you once had has now turn into you painfully tellingpenis and vagina jokes as if it's the only joke you know. It's likebeing at a party and you started making a couple of penis jokes, andyeah the first few are pretty funny, but then you just start soundingawkward and desperate. Yeah I'd be giggling when I was 14, but come onman, you're not even clever anymore. The fact that you want us to laughat these terrible jokes is insulting. As for the rest of the cast... Eisenberg takes him self too serious andhe's starting to come off as a douche. Aziz is funny but this characteris not. Every punchline was delivered the same exact way, which makesit painfully obvious when he is trying to queue a laugh. Nick Swardsonwas by far the most animated character, and delivered very well as heactually saved McBride from a string of terrible punchlines. All in all this movie was terribly disappointing. The movie had no paceand killed it's own momentum. The one bank robbery scene wasanti-climatic and the momentum built inside that scene was killed witha quick escape and a divert change of pace. I don't particularly like writing bad reviews but I felt like thismovie could have been so much more.

"30 Minutes or Less"

Two fledgling criminals kidnap a pizza delivery guy, strap a bomb tohis chest, and inform him that he has mere hours to rob a bank orelse...With the director's previous work, Zombieland, I had somewhat strongexpectations. Then we have the premise, which sounded very interestingand sounds like it could be a great modern comedy. When the movie cameout, the movie was bashed with bad reviews complaining how the movielacked humor and it's acting. But I thought otherwise and still saw themovie, expectations shining. The movie started, I laughed, and itended. Simple. I'm sure people expected much more but what I got washonestly all I wanted. No more, no less and I still laughed and enjoyedthis summer flick. The plot was awesome and the antics of the two maincharacters were very funny and charming. Not only, the acts of the twowhen they robbed the bank was hilarious. The movie started innocent butslowly dragged into crazy and outrageous situations. The film remindedme of recent comedies like Hangover or Horrible Bosses, but shortlyunderhanded compared to those. After the film, I questioned thereviewer's expectations and thoughts. I thought the film lacked SOMEsense and it had it's flaws, but in no way was the movie bad and Igradually enjoyed myself. If your a fan of recent comedies like thestated above, see this and enjoy it. I recommend staying away from thebad reviews and enjoy it for what it is, not what people expected it tobe. Afterward, express your opinion and feel no shame to do so. I feelas if everybody expects too much, which not everything is perfect. Withaction, humor, and lots of entertainment; 30 Minutes or Less is anothergreat addition to the comedy genre. 8/10.

Good cast and premise without the writers to handle it

The film's plot is just how it is presented, so I will just focus onwhere the film fell short despite all the ingredients for success.I saw the trailer for this and was hoping for a good, not great, summercomedy. The quality of writing in this genre can be difficult topredict based on trailers because we see two minutes of footage tryingto bring us to the theater, which often leaves the best jokes spoiledbefore the first minute. The main reason I chose to watch 30 Minutes orLess was because of Jesse Eisenburg. Coming off of his solidperformance in The Social Network and his previous roles in comedy, surely he is in a position to wait for a good script. There is a good cast here of actors who have had supporting roles orjust a brief scene in big comedies over the past few years (Aziz Ansariand Nick Swardson in particular), who outside the comedy circuit aren'trecognizable names yet. Danny McBride is getting perfect at playingthis kind of character (the drug dealer in Observe and Report comes tomind) who projects the pure alpha male ego and aggression of someone ofauthority - all while misusing every quote, saying and fact consideredto be common knowledge.I just erased a long analysis of my gripes, which aren't necessary toexplain in such detail. The script was just flawed for comedy in myeyes and no one could save it. Mainly, the movie went back and forthbetween crazy but theoretically possible and not trying at all to seembelievable. The characters are sometimes exaggerated kinds of peoplethat exist and those who cannot, and with whom no one could relate to.Good comedies require more than lots of good jokes and actors. It allmust come together in some way that works on the level presented, because context is what humor plays off. The best jokes of the filmcould be put essentially anywhere in any film and work the same.
