Portland detective, Nick Burkhardt, has seen some gruesome crime scenes, but nothing prepares him for the strange visions he begins seeing seemingly regular people momentarily transforming into hideous monsters. A visit from his only living relative reveals the truth. Nick has inherited the ability to see supernatural creatures, and as a Grimm, he is tasked with keeping the balance between mankind and the mythological. A reformed Big Bad Wolf becomes his greatest (and also reluctant) ally and confidant. Its not long before his work as a policeman leads Nick to the criminals he once thought were only found in fairy tales.

Would have gotten an 8 or 9 out of 10 if there wasn't a FATAL FLAW INTHE PLOT: How's Capt Renard, Grimm's Boss, one of the bad Mythological Creatures? It's too close of a relationship to Grimm (Nick Burckhardt). You can't focus on the Mythological Creatures because of a nowconvoluted story line. There's more than enough material with Grimm, the Creatures, Griffin and Monroe. Adding Renard as an additionalantagonist makes it too easy. Same flaw with 'No Ordinary Family' andthe character of Dr. Dayton King...too close...conflict from too manydirections.Less is more.

After viewing the pilot of this show, I think it has a lot ofpotential. Yes it follows the tried and true formula of expose modernindividual to some sort of secret war/history/duty/etc, but there is alot they can do with it from there. It did its job as a pilot:introduce characters, introduce conflict, and give you the general ideahow the episodes will go. I think it is about time we had a new showthat runs the good old man vs. monster bit, especially one that isn'tprone to becoming some touchy-feely WB-esque teen drama. While its tooearly to judge the show as a whole, it promises good things. I hope itdelivers.

'Grimm' shares the same premise as 'Once'  fairy tales are not justfantasies your learn as a child but real stories about a supernaturalworld blended into our own.'Grimm,' is the darker and more dramatic of the two, while 'Once' playson the twisted Disney take on the stories. The show's hero is Oregonhomicide detective Nick Burkhardt (David Giuntoli) who is new to theforce and fears he could be suffering from a mental breakdown. Nickstarts to see creepy hallucinations of random people whose faces morphinto demons, goblins, wolves and worse. At least I think they were somesort of demon.Nick's aunt (Kate Burton), whom he loves like a mother, arrives forwhat seems like a normal visit. Instead, she's come to tell him he'sabout to inherit the family curse. The good news is that Nick isn'tcrazy; the bad news is now he has the ability to see evil in true form.Nick is a descendant of the Grimms, who are demon slayers fated tobattle with werewolves, demons and witches, oh my! Now it makes sensewhy the producers of 'Buffy' and 'Angel' would get involved with a showlike this. So far, the choreographed fights and demon make-up arereminiscent of 'Buffy.' Nick's aunt ends up in the hospital afterbattling a demon, who tries to kill her and Nick with a scythe bearingthe inscription 'Reapers of the Grimms.' "We have the ability to seewhat no one else can," Nick's aunt says. "When they lose control theycan't hide, and we see them for what they really are." The nurse in thehospital later says to Nick, "What kind of work was your aunt in? Shehas knife scars all over her body." Nick's response, "She's alibrarian." Well, time to wake up Nick and face the demons of theworld! (Also sounds similar to Buffy?) Nick pairs up with reformedBlutbad (in our words, a wolf) named Monroe (Silas Weir Mitchell, thebest character in the pilot) and the two venture off to find the badguy of the moment.Russell Hornsby is cast as Nick's partner Hank, who hasn't been givenmuch to do yet save some slight comic relief. Bitsie Tulloch plays hissoon to be fiancée Juliette, who hopefully will be given more than juststaring out the window looking worried.Grimm's first episode played with the tale of 'Red Riding Hood' and hadcertain scenes that made you cringe and gasp. As the show progresses, Ihope we see more underlying Grimm tales like 'Goldilocks,' 'Hansel andGretel' and 'Snow White' come out to play.

OMG I LOVE this show it is so much fun to watch nothing boring aboutit. It makes you think ahead I'm debating over in my mind about hisgirlfriend I think she has a few secrets too! I love his friend andthink he is pretty funny. There is so much to this show and so muchthey can do with the story line. It's a blast to watch. Just like theMedium was. I miss that show a lot. Grimm is just pure fun andinteresting to watch. Give it a shot you won't be sorry. I find itmight be a little scary for some kids under age 9 they might not getwhat is going on.They will probably be scared of people changing intomonsters and not get why. Parents need to know what their child canhandle watching as this show could cause some kids bad dreams. Thenthere are some kids that nothing scare them so I'm just F.Y.I.ingparents out there. Grimm is a fun show but not for all kids to watch.

This show has appeal and intrigue, which is why I really like it. Inmany ways, it is believable, or makes a solid attempt to be (althoughelements of fantasy might not be a match for some peoples limitedreality). It awakens your imagination and pushes it a little further. It is exciting and the action is constant in its delivery, which keepsyour interest. You don't always know what to expect, while at othertimes, you may try to solve the mystery and prove yourself right, orwrong. The characters are engaging and likable, for the most part. There aresome that are waiting in the wings to make their "big move", but youkind of assume that and wait for it. You may not be certain as to their"true" role in the grand scheme of things. While some "horror" elements exist, they are limited, appropriatelyconcealed for network TV, and easily digested. This does not, in myopinion, take away from the x-factor that this show delivers. The showmakes you feel as though you are a part of it, and allows you to putyourself in one of the roles, if you dare to imagine. In the beginning, I thought that it was a blend of CSI and Buffy theVampire Slayer. However, after watching all the episodes, it has madeits own unique mark. Therefore, the GRIMM has a "thumbs up" from me.Keep it going, or at least find a good adoptive station to carry itsflag.

It's tough to do a new horror/fantasy show with Fox's "Supernatural"still on the air, even if "Supernatural" itself has grown stale afterseveral seasons. "Supernatural" is the equivalent of "Law and Order,"the crime/courtroom drama against which all similar shows must bejudged. Or take the original "Star Trek." The only show that has evermeasured up to that groundbreaking sci-fi effort was "Firefly." But Idigress. "Grimm" attempts to be a bit of "The X-Files" and more than abit of "Supernatural." It also employs a gimmick that I haven't seenused since a couple of those syndicated Canadian jobs years ago, wherelaw enforcement types were actually benign vampires or resurrected fromthe grave to fight crime. In the case of "Grimm," the leading man -- adetective, of course -- has the ability to see demons and otherpreternatural/supernatural creatures. "Grimm" isn't all that bad. Theplots are derived from old German fairy tales (hence the show's title),and there's a bit of violence and nastiness in every episode. Theleading man (David Giuntoli) and his partner (David Hornsby), however, are generic and utterly bland. They are no Sam and Dean. The least theshow's producers could have done was hire someone like the actor whoplays an FBI agent on "Warehouse 13," who clearly was hired for hisphysical resemblance to the ruggedly handsome David "Angel" Boreanaz.Every time I see Giuntoli on screen, all I can think of is this kidneeds a haircut and about 10 more years on him. He looks like hebelongs n high school. A quirky civilian who helps the cops, and who isa sort of werewolf, is far more interesting. Thank God for the actor,Silas Mitchell, who plays him. Mitchell reminds me of Eric Balfour, whoplays a similarly quirky civilian who helps the similarly generic, bland law enforcement officials on SyFy's HAVEN. I don't see "Grimm"lasting more than a season or two. See what you think. It is moderatelyentertaining for what it is.

Of the two "fairytale" shows that exist now, Grimm has the morebelievable characters, better plots and has immense room to develop andgrow.Starting out with a detective as the Grimm was a great way to add dramaand he and his girlfriend are really likable and interesting people (Iswear there is something magic about his girlfriend we don't know yet). The wolfen friend was a great start to delving into the Grimm world. Now the wolfman has a girlfriend in the potion business and she is anawesome addition. What has been most enjoyable is there is a continuousunfolding of a complex and magical world where there is drama, mysteryand surprise.I don't like much prime time TV but Grimm is an immensely creative andwell developing show. Its not Grimm its awesome ! My wife and I AREHOOKED. My only advice is to not limit yourselves to the brothers Grimm storiesbut feel free to add in new creatures and magic that his aunt had notyet found, like trolls. Tall and burly (not fat) men and women who liveaway from the cities who are much heavier than they look (they avoidstairs and elevators) who are immensely strong and hardy (likearmored), move casually, laugh hard, eat weird things and avoidinteraction with most people. Fingers and limbs are thick and oftenbearded (women too) Maybe we need a group of trolls to befriend ourerstwhile heroes and sometimes help in their endeavors.

I had high expectations for the show. The first couple of episodes metthese expectations. Afterwards it's all been downhill. There is so much potential in the fairy tales of brothers Grimm, buteverything is so poorly executed. The SFX are quite poor, the scriptsare bad, the tension non-existent. The acting is OK though, anddeserves some praise, especially because the actors have so little towork with. For instance, the episode about the Pied Piper. Seriously, that wasterrible in so many ways, not scary at all, very uninspired. It's like the people behind the show had a good idea, but don't knowhow to actually make it work.

Grimm largely follows the line of most crime dramas, but with the funtwist that the bad guys are characters from fairy tales andfolk-stories. The main character is reasonably interesting, hispartners (one his human police partner & a new friend that is basicallya big bad wolf) are mildly amusing, and the crimes are intriguing. Onlytime will tell if it can stay interesting, but for now I am extremelyoptimistic. It is a show that can appeal to fantasy fans (like me) andcrime drama fans (like my husband).Being one of two fantasy themed new shows on network television, Grimmis inevitably compared to ABC's Once Upon a Time, which is a bit morefantasy. I am enjoying Once Upon a Time a great deal (my husband hasn'twatched since the first episode), but frankly it seems more like amini-series. It has an end written into the story & if they try to dragit out too long it will start to seem ridiculous. Grimm on the otherhand, can last as long as the writers keep finding more folktales &there are thousands of those.

I'm not the best at giving reviews, I am only sixteen, so bare with me.I found the pilot interesting, to say the least. It did a wonderful jobat introducing the main characters and the main gist to how everyepisode will go. I think this idea the creators came up with has a lotof potential. I enjoyed watching this and hope it will be continued onfor more than just that, a pilot. I can seriously picture myselfsitting down every night to watch this. I have yet to find a seriesthat I can follow with for more than a few episodes, and I do believe Ican sit down and watch this through out the entire series. I'ddefinitely give it a shot it I were you; depending on if you like showsthat have the main character chasing after monsters that were writtenabout in old folklore just to save someone they don't even know. Ican't wait for more episodes. Definitely worth ten stars!

Cop is a descendant of the brothers Grimm (of the fairy tales) and cansee the real nature of the monster which walk among us as normalpeople. So he hunts the bad ones down. And that's it! Okey, okey, this would be a very bad review with only three sentencesso a bit more info: Ever episode he investigate a murder with... ofcourse... a "monster". They vary from the traditional werewolf to giantwasps and fatal-attraction-frog-eaten-goats. This series is almost the same as "lost girl" but not as great as"supernatural". Every time the investigator gets a lead to a monsterand needs to hunt and mostly kill the beast. BUT... normally they alsohave a large storyline hanging above the small investigate-identify-hunt-kill episodes. In this series the large storyline is so thin thatit's hard to suppress the irritation of all the clichés Still, the character isn't bad looking so during the wait for thebetter stuff (True blood, Walking death) this is a nice way to killtime.

After watching the first episode, I'm pretty optimistic that this showhas something to offer. Unfortunately the acting may have been a bitoff at times, and the continuity was lost during a few scene. It ispossible a lot of the issues regarding continuity could be worked intothe plot later, and it's also common knowledge that the acting duringthe first few episodes of a new series will always be reserved andcautious.Hence why I'm optimistic. My only issues were with issues that appearduring the pilots of every show. If Grimm rebounds even in theslightest over the next few episodes, I'd consider it a good watch.

Just watched the pre air episode of Grimm and I can't believe how badthe pilot is. I don't know if the premiere will be different, but itcertainly won't matter much. Grimm is a recycle formula, a pretty boydetective can see something strange, something supernatural, then hegot 'life changing' information that he is the last of the grim fromhis dying aunt (really?!) That's not the joke, the ridiculousness lieson the actors, the lead actor can't act to save his life, and othersupporting actors don't adds up too. Many plot hole which might bedifficult to explain(yes it's that many). I don't see the future in this one, the whole 40 minutes while watchingthis, all I could think of is that it reminds me so much of Buffy thevampire slayer and Supernatural, which is mile away better. Your choicefolks!

I watched this show out of pure boredom with nothing else to do. But Iended up enjoying it. The first 20 minutes were quite boring. spoilers:It didn't even get interesting until the cop and the wolf first went tothe mans house. but after that is what drew me in. Too be honest I amnot quite sure of what to make of the show just yet, but I am hopingsomething amazing does come of it. It has some weird seductivenessabout it, that makes you think: whats a grimm, what type of show willthis be, what the hell happened in the end of the first episode. I willdefinitely keep watching just to see what will happen later in theseason. The main problem they have is the dull boring moments, I justwish they would explain more what kind of show this is going to be. Isit going to be a cop show, with criminals and solving crimes everyepisode, or understanding this guys special power and into his world of"magic".

This is a GREAT show!...Cleverly written and the actors are wonderful! Our Family LOVES this show! The way the writers mix the Grimm's Fairytales into present day plots are very interesting. SeeingPortland,Oregon in all it's beauty and lushness is quite breathtaking. We especially liked the refrigerator repair man on "Danse Macabre". Ofcourse Monroe is always fun. Kate Burton was a wonderful surprise onthe pilot episode. David Giuntoli and Danny Bruno are AWESOME!!!!!!!The special effects are amazing. We like the autopsy scenes too eventhough pretty gruesome! It's way cool! I hope that NBC does the smartthing and keeps this one going... It's certainly a HIT in our house.Sincerely, Nancy Di Leo and Family.

David Greenwalt was one of the regular writers in the "Buffy" (and Ithink "Angel") series. Both of these series had character development, plots that were interesting and showed that something was afoot.Grimm starts out that way in the first episode, where the grandmotheris in hospital and effectively "hands over the reigns" to her grandson(the detective). A murder attempt is made in the hospital against herlife and then (I think it was in the second episode), a minor referenceis made to her being attacked and the identity of the person setting upthe kill. Then, there is nothing more mentioned about her attacker orthe role of the new "Grimm" for a number of episodes. Most of the episodes seems to be a stand-alone installment and moreoften than not, there's no linking of the episodes towards acliff-hanging series finale.I also find the police characters frustrating - both are both wooden inthe delivery of their lines and don't seem to engage the audience.Unless the series starts to get more taut and the writers start tothink along the lines of Buffy /Angel, I think this series will get theaxe sooner than later.
pfeifferpack2003-1 25 April 2012
Going to try to avoid spoilers in this review. The writers have melded formula cop material with horror in a viableway. Add in a mix of humor, sprinkled carefully, and you have themakings of another Angel or Buffy. Beautiful locations that add to thegeneral mood, rounded out with a good cast argurs well for this to be asuccessful entry. The premiere gave all the basic information to follow the premise of afamily line that can see the supernatural and have been dealing withthe evil around us for centuries yet is letting the viewer "learn"along with the main character (the latest in the line to discover his"gift"). The supporting cast, human and otherwise, are strongcharacters as well. Nick (the latest "Grimm") already has a job as acop with good instincts and his new talents, so far, have enhancedrather than disturbed his career.Given the quality of writing and acting shown in this entry the showshould draw viewers looking for something a bit different yet stillwithin a comfort zone.

I really don't understand the 7.5??? Why is it bad? This show isgutsy.....not many shows deal with, or show the kind of things thisshow does...I watched it in Sweden,(where I live...yeahhhh)all fourepisodes, and didn't realize until the 2nd episode that it was run onNBC.I really thought it was a cable produced show.......not only doesit deliver sweet looking co-ed dismemberment after attacking werewolfbasically eats her to death, but also shows pedophiliac monsters, actionand arm ripping jokes....I mean yeah, sure, somethings are off.....this city is crawling with blödbaden seemingly running wild, yet everysingle case is assigned to the same detective(are there any moredetectives?and why is that specific Chinese cop always fetching whatthey need?I'm guessing they're his superior but he dresses like therest of the cops.....,and the model looking vet girlfriend who makes mewonder if the next episode is the one where she dumps him.....otherthan that........ It's funny, scary, creepy, interesting, and not verypolitically correct, which is great....I don't know maybe I'mexaggerating ,but I can't wait to see what new Blödbaden they come upwith...cool show...even more so after a smoke....

Once upon a time there were two brothers Grimm who collected fairytales. Then Hollywood began making TV shows and films based upon saidtales. Some of them were good, some of them so-so, and some of them notso much. The latest incarnation has potential to be good and I want itto be because I'm sick of vampires (that aren't Angel) and tweenershows with whiny actors (who really are whiny people). Unfortunatelythe casting is off. David Giuntoli looks and acts like an odd ClarkKent, but the awkward Clark never becomes Superman, he just staysawkward and stiff. There is no chemistry between him and RussellHornsby. Silas Weir Mitchel, the future hairy sidekick stands a goodchance of stealing the show. I don't mine the fairy tale clichés, asthat's central to the show, but if the acting doesn't being to click,I'll at least get my Fridays back.

That's what the future looks like for this turkey. One look at the werewolf and all will be clear.Been there, done that and done better.Way Better.Don't understand these half hearted attempts to create series.Such a lame introduction to story/character is unlikely to arouse muchinterest or loyalty. The lead is a featherweight.Writing's on the wall when your dying aunt looks more badass than you.The story was even more of a throwaway than he was. The comic relief was the only one who looked even remotelyaccomplished.Realize it's their careers and livelihoods, so wish them well inproving me wrong.Thank you.Renewed for second season.
