Follows a group of high school students growing up in southern California, based on the real-life adventures chronicled by Cameron Crowe. Stacy Hamilton and Mark Ratner are looking for a love interest, and are helped along by their older classmates, Linda Barrett and Mike Damone, respectively. The center of the film is held by Jeff Spicoli, a perpetually stoned surfer dude who faces off with the resolute Mr. Hand, who is convinced that everyone is on dope.

Fast times is definitely a movie for the more layed back type ofperson. Anyone who just wants to sit back, chill out and have a goodtime watching these interesting breeds of characters just live life. Itis quite similar to Dazed and Confused yet a little more of a socialcritique than Dazed is. The movie does a good job at juxtaposing the'fake' with the 'true'. We see how the more "mature & sophisticated"crowd (Linda, Mike, Brad and Mr. Hand) all have biased morals and thinkvery highly of their social status. Whereas Spicoli, Stacy and Mark alllet loose and have morals they themselves have established. So whetheryou're in a serious mood and are interested in a quite interestingcharacter and moral study or just chillin at home watchin the moviewith Mary Jane for some laughs, this movie delivers!

Totally awesome movie with a totally awesome cast, putting this entire casttogether again today would not be possible, there arent enough $$$ around,so it is pure luck that most of the cast had not yet reached their"commanding figure" stage of their career.I wrote the review for this a Fast Rewind so I'm not gonna write it again, Iam going to simply say that it is well worth your $$$ for the DVD or VHS ifyou can get it (out of print as of 31st March 2002).Many funny moments which occasionally allude to a deep plot about what itsreally like out there, as I just graduated year 12, I can vouch for thismovies validity, it all really does go on, except we dont look as good whenwe do it and we cant command sex the way these people can, and we tend to beprosecuted for having a bootfull or weed and so on and soforth.VERDICT= you cant make a time machine, make yourself younger and go back tothe early 80's (although if we did I doubt it would be as we remember it oras it appears in these vids) but you can watch this video in a dimly litwhite room on your big screen TV wearing a tight Rusty shirt with tightblack jeans and a Marlboro in the mouth and feel like you are at the theatreall those years ago.Watch this and Secret Admirer (also highly recommended by me) one after theother and you'll see it works.11.5/10 stars

I saw this movie with my english teacher. I think that this movie is very boring but some characters of the movie make it funny. The rating that I give is medium because the story is so fast that sometimes it's hard to fallow the story. My favorite character is Jeff Spicoli (Sean Penn) because his stupidity makes his very funny. I think that the society in our times is more violent. The school in Fast Times seens less dangerous than today's school. Its a funny and divertising film. I recommend it for persons who loves comedy movies.

Fast Times at Ridgemont High (1982)Cameron Crowe's script for `Fast Times at Ridgemont High' has totally heldup in the nearly 20 years since it's release, in its portrayal of teenagelife. Virtually plotless, the movie just follows the stories of a group ofteenagers as they go about life in high school. And like so many 80's teenmovies, it rightfully takes place for quite a bit of its run at the localmall. I find this movie to be extremely realistic, even in its somewhatexaggerated depictions of what some of the characters do (Jeff Spicoliordering a pizza in the middle of class, or Charles Jefferson's winning ofthe football game by venting his anger at the school that supposedlytrashedhis car). But this is, after all, a movie, and a pretty good one too. Andcheck out all those kick-ass 80's arcade games! *drools*I'll try and give my best recollection of each of the main character'sbasicstorylines. Let's see, Jeff Spicoli is the ideal surfer dude,empty-headed,sporting Hawaiian shirts, and talking in irresistible slang. He dislikestheuptightness of school, particularly personified by his history teacher,Mr.Hand. The two begin to have a battle of the wills. Brad Hamilton is aseniorwho goes from one fast-food job to the next, who has no idea what he issupposed to do with his life, even though everyone, including his guidancecounselor, expects a lot from him. Stacy Hamilton is a guy-crazy chick whois sensitive but who wants sex and attention, leading her first into thearms of an older man, and eventually into those of Mike Damone, a cockyhustler, when the only guy who genuinely cares for her is nerdy MarkRatner.Damone is a shady character, a charming sweet-talker who scalps ticketsanddoes what he can for a quick buck. He tries to help Ratner score withStacy, but then steals the girl. Ratner is an insecure nerd-type who is good atheart, who works at the mall movie theater, and who just wants his shotwithStacy. He finds himself broken-hearted when he uncovers Damone's betrayal.Linda Barrett is Stacy's best friend and confidante, a sexy, confidentgirlwho is constantly moving from one guy to the next and sort of becomes aquasi role model for Stacy. That's the basic premise for all of what goeson.Probably the most famous line is that uttered by Sean Penn's Jeff Spicoli:`Aloha, Mr. Hand.' I'm not sure if it's the Hawaiian talk or the idiocy ofthe teacher's name that has made this line so supremely quoted over theyears. Anyone who has seen the movie recognizes it immediately. I can sayimmediately that I have never, ever seen Penn play a part like this, and Idon't think I've ever seen a surfer personified with such grace. Eventhoughthe conflict between Spicoli and Mr. Hand is light-hearted, I alwayswantedto see them having a fist-fight in the halls. Stacy's story is actuallypretty serious.she winds up being the victim of a teenage pregnancy, whichis not often addressed in a teen comedy. Her eventual realization thatMarkis the guy for her seems natural and not scripted. And thankfully, they'reonly starting to date by the end of the movie, and not getting engaged ormarried or something equally stupid as in some lesser movies. Damone issucha weird off-beat character, and his friendship with Ratner so unusual, thatI have to give Cameron Crowe credit for making it all work. Brad seems tohave the least to do with the other characters but as an unsuccessfulgo-getter, I can definitely relate to him.In conclusion, this is one of my favorite 80's teen movies. It goes a lotdeeper than `The Breakfast Club' and its adult characters, though notwell-sculpted, are treated with more warmth and humanity than many of teencomedies. It's a required viewing for teens, young adults, and anyone withafondness for 80's culture.Grade: A

I had only seen bits and pieces of FTARH over the years. Now that I am a DVD regular watcher, I have decided to try and locate some of these older films and watched them in entirety. Particularly since DVD allows for a clearer picture and most times widescreen format (what better way to watch it).I was a teenager in 1982 so it's always nice to see a film capture that era. This movies does that, and features a soundtrack from that time. Overall, a nice snapshot.I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed FTARH even if the DVD apparently does not include all scenes. As I said earlier, I had only seen bits and pieces of the movie over the years and hardly remembered them, so any missing scenes would not have made much difference to my viewing of the DVD.Sean Penn is excellent as the stoned surfie dude. Phoebe Cates performance is also highly notable and she too has some hilarious moments. Jennifer Jason Leigh also delivers a great performance. As many are aware, FTARH launched many careers and contains a huge list of actors who went on to become big stars today. These include: Nicholas Cage (although only minor role for Nicholas), Anthony Edwards, and to a much lesser extent Eric Stolz.Teenagers in 1982 will love this movie. It definitely reminded me of situations that happened at High School.DVD Review: While you get the film in widescreen, the transfer is less than satisfying. I realise the film is over 20 years old, but Universal have not spent any time restoring the picture. It's almost blurry in parts. I'd have to rate this DVD as one of the worst transfers I've seen (please note I am basing my review on the Australian DVD transfer). The American DVD may have a better transfer.Features wise, the DVD is above average. Universal deserves praise in this regard. Just a huge pity they decided not to include any of the well known deleted scenes that MANY Amazon reviewers have mentioned. I assume this is because the DVD was only intended to feature the theatrical version.FTARH is a film worth seeing, regardless of the version you see.

This movie is the greatest I ever before last week! The things that happen in this movie seems to ring very true for this year (1982). In this fantastic movie , my favority character is surely Jeff Spicoli (Sean Penn) because he made me laugh verymuch when I saw this movie for the first time.My second best character is Stacy Hamilton, because she's beatiful! I think the movie talks a little bit about the "student life";and I think that was more funny than today's life in general. Finally, I suggest you to watch this movie when you will can.

Anone who has experienced the perils and perks of high school can easily relate to "Fast Times At Ridgemont High". Even though it was made in 1981, the film is still relevant today, since this was the film that paved the way for "American Pie", "Road Trip", "Old School", and so many more college sex comedies. It also launched the careers of many now recognized actors, including Jennifer Jason Leigh, Phoebe Cates, Judge Reinhold and, of course, Sean Penn. It also introduced everyone's favorite martian, Ray Walston, to a new generation of audiences who ate up his perfectly smarmy history teacher. It would be hard to explain what the plot of the film, since there are really several differnt plots. One tells the story of a 15 year old virgin (played perfectly by a 20 year old Jennifer Jason Leigh) trying to score, another deals with a ticket scalper (Rober Romanus) trying to get his friend Rat (Brian Backer), while another, most famously, has stoner Jeff Spigolli (Penn) getting high, hanging out with friends and getting on the last nerve of his history teacher, Mr. Hand (Walston). The funniest scene in the movie is when Hand tells Jeff to report the front office, and Jeff shoots back nonchalantly, "You d*ck!"The special features are intersting. The soundtrack highlights really bring back memories (I've always loved music from the 1980s'), while the featurette and the commentary by writer Cameron Crowe and director Amy Heckerling is truly informative and funny. For further enjoyment, try spotting small roles by future stars Anthony Edwards, Eric Stoltz, and Nicolas Cage (credited here under his real name, Nicolas Coppola)."Fast Times At Ridgemont High" is an absolute laugh riot that will brighten up your day and put a smile on your face. And who knows, you may even get a little nostalgic and long for the 1980s' for just one more day.

This is a classic movie The Bright spot was Sean Penn's Character JeffSpakoli He was great in this film. Especially when he orders the pizza inthe class room. Brad was another great character being played by the Judge. His great spot was at the end when the guy was robbing the store. They couldhave gone with out the part when he is in the bathroom that was disgusting.Overall i give 10 out of 10 stars. I HIGHLY recommend it.

Fast times is best times! Fast times is one of the movie that I have seen, and I really like it. The character are good written and well act. My favorite character is Jeff Spicoli, he's a very cool dude.He and Brad are the two best character that I like.Back then and now are not quite similar because today, lots of teens are now in gang and more dangerouse. There also plenty of riots going on today. Anyway "Fast Times" is da bomb!

I just watched the "20th" anniversary of "Fast Times" on TV. Apparently they are counting 20 years from the time the movie was finished shooting since it wasn't released until 1982. Just before I saw it in 1982 (when I was 15), a local movie critic said it basically was to the 80's what "Porky's" was to the 50's, but I think "Fast Times" is a much better movie in just about every way, especially in taste.I really don't agree with some of the other reviewers who say that it was very realistic. But what movie is? Don't get me wrong, it was a really good movie, but most high school students don't fall into those strict catagories depicted in the movie.I saw high school as a student in the 80's and as a teacher today. Despite popular sentiment, most schools are safer now than they were then, and at least in the suburbs, there are less drugs. But back to the subject. The basic storylines are a bit shallow, but they are developed well and the acting is great. Why didn't Phoebe Cates ever make it bigger?!? One reviewer mentioned that kids who see this movie (especially boys) will wish they got as much action as many of the characters!Enjoy the movie, but don't include the children. Besides all the drugs, there is plenty of foul language and one nude scene.

Sean Penn, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Judge Reinhold and Phoebe Cates starin one of the great 80's coming of age comedies. Fast Times atRidgemont High is Clueless meets Valley Girl. Timeless throughout thegenerations, this is still a popular movie with the youth market. Thetypical storyline of drugs, music, sex, friendship, school work andpart time jobs is real and emotional for this "high school" cast. Mostteen movies fail to capture the truth of growing up under the giantumbrella of peer pressure. Unlike most of the pop-culture junk that wasproduced in the 1990's, Fast Times at Ridgemont High is real. From theamazing 80's soundtrack to the wardrobe that the cast dresses in, thismovie is like a time capsule. People of this generation can stillrelate to what it was like growing up in the early 80's in small town /California esq. society. Last but not least, Phoebe Cates will live fora thousand years with her innocent, yet provocative swimming pool /dream sequence. What teenage boy can't help but love this scene!

Fast Times at Ridgemont High is, as everyone says, a terrific high schoolmovie. I say it trumps all of 'em except the immortal Ferris Bueller's DayOff. Great acting. It always kills me to see young actors turn outperformances a great deal better than those of established older actors.(Another example of that is Stand By Me.) Sean Penn is hilarious, so is RayWalston (Mr. Hand). The "where are they now" bit at the end is especiallyfunny. It's also cool to see how several now established actors got theirstart (Sean Penn, Forest Whitaker, Jennifer Jason Leigh, etc). It's also thefirst film venture of Cameron Crowe (director of JerryMaguire).Hooray for Ridgemont!

This movie is a very crude movie. Don't get me wrong Sean Penn was hilarious. Sean Penn plays a stoner named Jeff Spicoli, that has trouble with grades and his teacher. This movie has alot of stories in it. I thought the end got a little dumb and more crude. I mean some crude is funny. But it got to sexual. Overal not my favorite movie.

Fast Times At Ridgemont High is a quirky comedy with an amazing soundtrack. The movie has a seen-before story but I have to say it's cast makes this typical comedy unique. We have an innocent young girl getting ready to be bad on her senior year of high school (she's pretty much the only reason this movie's rated R), the stoner who's absolutely hysterical and the pizza ordering scene shall go down in history, the loser trying to pick up the innocent girl, and the brother and the goofball who keep it all together. It's not a terrific movie but any stretch of the word but it's hysterical how the cast play the scenes to make a mild giggle turn into a full-blown laugh-out-loud scene. Not to mention the soon-to-be rising star's from the film (Anthony Edwards, Forest Whitaker, Sean Penn, and even Nicolas Cage). If you're looking for a fun comedy, then Fast Times At Ridgemont High is the one to see.

Sean Penn is pretty hilarious as the strung out sufer dude, but the real reason to see this is if you're a guy and haven't had the opportunity to ever see the Phoebe Cates poolside fantasy sequence, wow.

Slice of life of Southern California kids dated with great early '80's tunes. Stacy Hamilton (Jennifer Jason Leigh) and Mark Ratner (Brian Backer) are interested in the fair sex, but their more experienced friends Linda Barrett (Phoebe Cates) and Mike Damone (Robert Romanus) give them hopelessly bad advice. Great performances all around, but the scene-stealers are surfer pothead Jeff Spicoli (Sean Penn), who thinks nothing of having a pizza ordered in to his history class, Stacey's older brother Brad (Judge Reinhold), who has bum luck with women and jobs, and history teacher Mr. Hand (Ray Walston), who has all the patience of a boiling tea kettle. Unfortunatly, extra scenes that appear on Comedy Central among other stations are not included here, as director Heckerling is not particularly fond of them. Look for Nicholas Cage, Anthony Edwards, and Eric Stoltz as Spicoli's fellow stoners, and Forest Whittaker as Ridgemont's football hero. Bruce Springsteen's younger sister Pamela appears briefly as a cheerleader.
