This was and still is the funniest movie I have ever seen. Gilmore (Sandler) is hilarious in his quest to win back his grandma's house. Hilarous scenes with things golf has never seen before, are throughout the movie. Excellent.

Warning: if you can't stand Adam Sandler, don't watch this!Okay, with that said, I must say that this is one of the funniest moviesI've seen. I almost got muscle cramps a couple of times because I waslaughing so hard! Adam Sandler plays Happy Gilmore, a wanna-be hockey playerwho can't skate and has no control, but he can kill the puck. Hisgrandmother is about to lose the house his deceased grandfather built forher unless she can come up with a quarter million dollars in overdue incometaxes. This leads Happy to his discovery that he is the best long-ballgolfer in the world, and with a little coaching (from Carl "Apollo Creed"Weathers) he can turn pro. He does and there begins his hilarious journeytoward saving Grandma's house. As with his other movies, if you don't like Adam Sandler, then don't rentthis. It will drive you insane. If you do like him, however, you'll have ahoot watching this one!

Hey Kids, It's Adam Sandler Week! Our next film of the week followHappy Gilmore played by Adam Sandler who is not a very good Hockeyplayer. He decides to switch his sport to golfing which sadly Does notwork well either. But when Happy Gets Angry(Ha Ha) He actually doesreally well at golf. Even when he is competing with ChristopherMcDonald. This is yet another film that the critics cannot have fun with and sayit is to stupid. But I love it and is one of the classic comedies. Ilove this movie and I always will until the very day that I die.Rated PG-13 For Language And Comic Sexuality.1hr 32min./92min.****/****

Adam Sandler is perfectly hilarious along with the fabulous cast of supporting actors. The girl in it isn't funny at all but in order to make the plot deep and well-rounded there had to be a love interest wth dramatic flair. I can say the same for "Billy Madison." It doesn't mater whether you like golf or not. The movie's about more than the game. It's about a dream and a guy named... Happy.

Happy Gilmore is one of my top ten favorite comedies and brings outwhat little humor their is in golf. It's the best golf comedy sinceCaddyshack (1980) and really puts you in the golfing spirit. Happy Gilmore (Adam Sandler) is the grandson of loving grandmotherGilmore (Frances Bay). He is in love with hockey but can't break intothe roster of the local hockey team. After being cut he returns home tofind his girlfriend leaving him. After a crazy night with a Japaneselady, Happy gets a call from his grandma saying that she is beingevicted.Happy doesn't know what to do so he takes her to the local nursing homerun by a psycho orderly (Ben Stiler). Happy goes back to the house tomake sure everything is going alright to find the movers playing golf.Happy tells them to go back to work but say that they're on break.Happy says that if he can hit a golf ball past the two guys than theygo back to work.Happy does more than that by hitting the ball 300+ yards and hittingtwo people at the end of the street. Happy, after meeting Chubbs (CarlWeathers), goes to the Waterbury open where he nearly kills his caddybecause he thinks he's getting robbed. After winning he is on the protour and ready to get his grandma's house back.Along the way, Happy must deal with pro Shooter McGavin (ChristopherMcDonald), Bob Barker (Himself), and hostile fans who he ends upbeating the hell out of. Happy is kind at heart but has problems withanger when frustrated or unhappy. One of the funniest scenes involvesBob Barker saying he should be working at the snack bar and Happy headbutts him.The story is just plain old fish out of water story with someunforgettable laughs. Happy's official caddy is the best part as a hobobathing in the 8th holes pond or washing his underwear in the ballwasher. This film is funny, it's attractive, and it really brought Sandler intoacting. The golf scenes are pretty well filmed and accurate with realgolf. Chris McDonald is sinister as the hostile pro competing for theGold Jacket and Richard Kiel is hilarious in his cameo as Happy'sex-boss turned loving fan.Happy Gilmore. Starring: Adam Sandler, Christopher McDonald, JulieBowen, Frances Bay, and Carl Weathers.4 out of 5 Stars.

Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison were the two movies that launched AdamSandler's impressive career. They both were equally impressive moviesbut I am going to focus on Happy Gilmore of course. This movie is agreat mixture of comedy and sport. Even though I despise golf greatly,I had a blast watching this film. This film is about Happy Gilmore, a guy with serious anger issues. heenlists in the Pro Golf Tour to win money so his grandmother can moveback in her house that was taken away by the IRS.I though Adam Sandler was great here so screw that Razzie nomination. Ithink he is funny in every movie that he's supposed to be funny. Iloved the cameos by Bob Barker and Ben Stiller. That made this movieeven better.Overall, this movie is hilarious and one that I would watch over andover again. I rate this film 9/10.

This is such a good movie you can watch it over and over and not get tiredof it. This movie made Adam Sandler become the ridiculously wealthy personhe is today. It's very funny and there are many stand-out scenes. I think itis so popular because it makes fun of one of the most boring sports ever tobe played - golf.

Formula? Clearly Predictable? Yes. But if you don't watch this filmwithout a permanent smile on your face, go get Bridget Jones.Everything works.........from the second shot knocking the woman out ofthe window to the kid getting hit by the baseball machine to CarlWithers with his arm (?) round the alligator. I would have a preferreda greasier (popular) anti-hero to play 'Shooter' but that may well havetaken the point away from Stiller sending up the 'looser' movie. BeingEnglish, and a cricket fan, I can identify with Stillers legwork andarm swing in hitting the ball. It's a classic 'leg forward, batfollowing' technique. I wonder where he learnt that. And before anybodyanswers, I know the ball was CG.

Happy Gilmore is your everyday die-hard hockey fan. Every year he goes to tryouts, but never makes the team. He never got the hang of skating, and his control is isn't that great. He can fire a slap-shot 400 yards, though. But one day, while making some money off of bets from moving men, Happy discovers he can whack a golf ball pretty far. He goes to the shooting range and gets even MORE money off bets. Ace Golf Pro "Chubbs" finds out about him, helps him learn some skills. In a battle to save his Grandma's house from stuck-up golfer Shooter McGrive, Happy undergoes lots. He beats up loads of people, he breaks loads of golf clubs, and he loses some golf balls. This has been my favorite movie for years, I hope you all like it, too!

Even the most jaded, cynical Sandler hater will be hard pressed not to laugh at this movie. It's the only entertaing film ever made about golf, and hearing Sandler say "Friends listen to 'Endless Love' in the dark..." is enough to make me laugh. Watch it and prove me right.

Happy Gilmore is not a clever movie. It's not a movie for those whodislike Adam Sandler. It may not even be a movie for those who dislikegolf. But, for me, Happy Gilmore is absolutely hilarious and a film Ican watch over and over again.Sandler plays the main man, a wannabe ice hockey player who hasproblems with his temper and self-control. But the man can whack a golfball further than anybody else around, as he finds out by some strangequirk of fate that makes the entire movie possible. So he becomes agolfer. And he becomes quite a celebrity, thanks to his mix of rawtalent, unpredictable temper and unorthodox manner. On the one hand, the golf world loves him for boosting ratings but on the other theycannot allow him to carry on with his behaviour unchecked. But Sandlerneeds to keep playing AND to win against his main rival ("Shooter"McGavin played by Christopher McDonald) so that he can save hisgrandmother's home and get her back in there, safe and sound. What can I really say to win people over about this movie? It ISstupid, it IS basically centred around Sandler's angry man-childschtick and it IS of no real cinematic value whatsoever. But, as I saidabove, it is also hilarious. This and The Waterboy are, arguably, thecomedy movies that best worked for Sandler's particular on screenpersona and this one edges ahead thanks to it also poking fun at thestrait-laced world of golf.Sandler is just fine in the main role, McDonald makes a great nemesis,Carl Weathers is on good form as a wise old golfer who offers to showHappy how to improve and then you have hilarious cameos from people asdiverse as Bob Barker and Richard "Jaws" Kiel. If you approach thismovie in the right frame of mind then you really can't go wrong ifyou're after lots of big laughs.Denis Dugan directs but it's a great concept that needs nothing morethan simply being left alone. We get the montage moments, we get thelight and enjoyable soundtrack, we get the hilarious outbursts ofanger, we even get the tense sports movie cliché finale. Seen it allbefore? Yeah, but it's rarely been quite so funny.See this if you like: Caddyshack, The Waterboy, Billy Madison.

Lots of swearing, but still funny! I loved it when Happy got his butt kicked by Bob Barker! Heh heh. It was awesome when Happy played golf and made a hole in one !!!

Happy's golfing talents are discovered in this action-packed sportscomedy movie that drove into the box-office this week. Ice Hockey"wonnabe" Happy Gilmore introduces his 400 yard golfing talent andbegins to change the way of golf as the IRS re-processes hisgrandmothers home due to not paying taxes. Happy( Adam Sandler) has awell under par golf performance, but a spectacular acting one as hehits the spot every time.As a rejected Ice Hockey player, Happy discovers his golfing talentsand ex-pro Chubbs Peterson (Carl Weathers) helps him progress. Gilmorewith his popular 400 yard drives is aiming for the hole-in-1's to raisethe money required to get his grandmothers house back. Happy's talentand rage creates the media interest that he needs to join the Pro tour.Competing with bitter rival Shooter McGavin (Christopher McDonald) onthe tour, they have their ups and downs to say the least and thepractical jokes keeping coming.Comical moments are throughout this box-office spectacular such as thesoaking of Gilmore on the green at 9pm where he expects to meet theother pros' and his rival Shooter is to blame. Gilmore's anger and ragethreatens his place on the tour which Shooter encourages his beingthrown off. But due to the public interest and viewing figures Gilmorebrings he remains on the tour although the outburst the fight with BobBarker isn't the best moment for Gilmore.Gilmore's anger is a key part to this comical film as several timesthroughout the film he lets himself go as he relieves his anger. Suchas at the mini golf course he decides that the clown that keepslaughing at him when he misses a put would be better without a big rednose. Or the fight on the Pro AM with Bob Barker after they come lastand Bob isn't pleased or the pushing of Happy's caddy but none thewiser Happy believes it's just someone pinching his clubs.Adam Sandler has yet another comical film but this has to be rated ashis best performance yet in a positive acting career. This film is asports comedy which is a must-see although the rating of 12 isappropriate as there are some sexual comical references. Gilmore hasmade this a must-see and the film is well worth a top spot at the boxoffice as Gilmore bring a whole new life on golf.

I loved it when Bob Barker and Adam Sandler got into a fistfight. It's theonly reason I went to see the movie. I am a huge "Price is Right" fan andhave been to two tapings of the show. Unfortunately, I was never called ondown, but an old geezer I met in line was. If he'd only have listened to mewhile playing the Card Game, he would have won a brand new Mercury Tracer. Pity. I think Bob Barker should make extra money hurting bad actors like AdamSandler. (Maybe "Punch-Drunk Love" was a fluke: but there are no absolutesin acting.) Bob could bash Jennifer Lopez' teeth out with a Plink-O chip orrun Joe Pesci down with the Big Wheel. "Happy Gilmore" was a real turkey. Blech.

Happy Gilmore is probably one of the funniest movies since thisday. I truly recommend a lot of people to go see this movie. This is AdamSandler's best film and it sure will be for a long time. The humor of thisfilm is outstanding. At it's best!!! Golf has never been better althoughCaddyshack might be a little bit better than this but I'll tell you thatthis was great. Norman McDonald played excellent as Shooter McGavin. Hewasso funny. " I eat sh*t like you for breakfast."" You eat sh*t for breakfast"" No!" Omg that part was just so funny and also when Shooter brags it'sfunny. I also love Happy's dreams and Chubs was great to with no hand. Ilove this movie and I hope you love it to.10/10

This review is from: Happy Gilmore (DVD) The DVD is released in fullscreen instead of widescreen, otherwise this is one of Adam Sandler's best movies. Critics panned this movie, but the movie going public didn't care. This movie is great fun even for people who hate golf. With most of Adam Sandler's movies, always missed by the critics, there is always the underlying theme of "being there" to support one's family. In this case, his concern is for his grandmother about to lose her home to the IRS. Happy is an aspiring pro hockey player with a killer slap shot. The gift is accidentally used on some old golf clubs, discovered by a former pro-golfer turned instructor Chubbs Peterson (Carl Weathers) and Happy then finds himself on a professional golf tour to earn money to get the house back. There are a lot of hilarious scenes too many to name, mostly while playing golf. Great supporting cast with Julie Bowen (pre NBC TV's ED),Christopher McDonald as Shooter McGavin, Carl Weathers, Ben Stiller, Bob (The Price is Right) Barker, Lee Trevino and great direction from co-star Dennis Dugan.Note: Classic Lines - "If I dressed like that (referring to golfers) I'd have to kick my own [rear]!" and "He spends more time on the 'sand' than David Hasselhoff!"

After I had seen Billy Madison, I thought it to be all over between me andAdam Sandler's comedy. But then, shown to me was Happy Gilmore, a movie witha decent plot and much, much more intelligent humor. The other charactersare not tailored to make Sandler look less like an idiot than he should looklike (Billy Madison), but rather they are great elements of the story, andSandler himself is a more sensitive, intelligent person in this one, andeven after toning himself down he is able to execute a hilariousperformance.(to all billy madison fans I mean no offense)
Movie_Muse_Reviews 05 May 2012
A temperamental aspiring hockey star with no talent finds he has a giftfor the game of golf and uses it to make enough money to buy hisgrandmother's house back. This has light- hearted sports comedy writtenall over it. Toss in the comedy of Adam Sandler and then you go fromlight-hearted to wacko and borderline stupid. Either way, "HappyGilmore" is about as easy to watch as rain drops on a window.Like all collaborations between Sandler and director Dennis Dugan,"Happy" is full of strange characters (grandmas, midgets, awkwardlytall people) and stuck up, obnoxious antagonists (like Shooter McGavin)that make you like Sandler's terribly flawed character merely bydefault. Like many of his earlier films, "Happy" is one of Sandler'sangry roles, where the physical comedy reigns supreme. Not his bestgig, but amusing enough. The scene where he is learning to putt andtakes his frustration out on a mini-golf robotic clown head pretty muchsums it all up.There are a few humorous nuggets from this film that have a high placein the list of top Adam Sandler comedy lines/moments, like the fightwith Bob Barker accompanied by the timeless "the price is wrong, bitch." Other than those few great lines and funny scenes, there isn'ta whole lot to love about "Happy Gilmore," but it acknowledges that anddoesn't waste your time at just 90 minutes long.
