Simba and Nala have a daughter, Kiara. Timon and Pumbaa are assigned to be her babysitters, but she easily escapes their care and ventures into the forbidden lands. There she meets a lion cub named Kovu and they become friends. What she and her parents do not know is that Kovu is the son of Zira - a banished follower of the now-dead Scar. She plans to raise Kovu to overthrow Simba and become the king of the Pride Lands. This tests not only Kiara and Kovus relationship as they mature, but Simbas relationship with his daughter.

I got this movie before the lion king series went in the vault and it is by far my favorite of the 3. In the movie simba has a daughter Kiara who befriends the exiled son of scar kovu. Kovu is trained by the outsideers to kill simba and become the new king. Along the way kiara and him fall in love and the two of them bring the 2 tribes of lions together.

Lion King 2 you see the thing is it got way too complicated for kids. The whole Romeo Juliet thing was great for older kids and etc. buttotally dumbfounded the younger ones. As I watched it with my youngersibling she just enjoyed the songs. So Me I liked the movie and likedand disliked many things about. The songs (except for my lullaby) werevery well done. Especially HE lives in you Which I found MAtched up tothe lion kings opener The Circle of Life. The emotion and stuff werethe same But each building up the story ahead. Unlike many I liked thefact that they grew up fast because it gave the main characters Kovuand kiara to develop a more intimate relation un like the first whereboom they were together. The characters vibrance did disappoint me inanimation and personnality. Also Timon and Pumba Are the comic reliefthey are great so why not use them? All in all it was better thannormal. You should definitely see it. And no matter what anyone saysthe sing gazelle and Zebra are the best.

I like Kiara the best new character in the movie. Nala is cool too because she fights the bad lions. Simba is a really good daddy to his daughter. Poombah and Simon put in great preformance and provide comic relief.(review as told by Jaycee age 4 to her Father)

This movie in comparison to the first movie is definitely inferior.Although I do admit that if they released it sooner, it could have beenmore popular. Considering the fact that Disney and universal almostalways botch the sequel to any movie, this is actually pretty good. Itsa classic family situation. The daughter falls in love with the enemyand dad does not approve. Does this remind you of Shakespeare's Romeoand Juliet. Classic. I love the singing voices and the songs. Yes, Ithink some of the songs in the second are better than the first. Thesong Upendi has to be the most annoying. Whatever you do, don't listento it. It gets stuck in your head and you can never get it out. All theother songs are beautiful. Even when you change the language it isstill good.

I didn't know what to exepct when I first saw this. I am no kid but enjoyed the first Lion King a lot and must have seen it at least a dozen times within a short period of time. It's hard not to compare the first Lion King to this one as they are both connected and when you compare the huge $300 million hit to this made for video sequel.. well that just took away a little from it and that could be why this sequel just doesn't have the same heart and feeling that the first one did. The songs for example in the first are all what can be called classic scores making for a brilliant soundtrack that has sold millions. The songs in Simba's Pride defenatly lack the creativity and emotion and came off more like something written by the people who do the songs for Saturday Morning Cartoons. New and returning characters were a plus in this as what Lion King fan wouldn't want to see the characters we all fell in love with once more? New characters like Kovu, Kiara, Vitani, Zira and Nuka are all well done and given great personalities. The only problem with some of the characters is the voices they choose as I didn't feel Kiara and Kovu's adult voices were as good as Nuka and Vitani's came off as but that's a small minus to the new characters. The backgrounds and the way the characters are drawn are a step down too which sort of takes away from the effectiveness of this as a top quality sequel. The love story is a nice twist but also predictable in that Disney sort of way. The old characters were done perfectly but the lack of characters like Nala and Zazu were a disapointment and even the presence of Simba was reduced to make way for new characters. Timon and Pumba were funny in this but it seemed more like the writers couldn't find a place for them in this movie so they just became bumbling babysitters which I suppose kids would like anyway. This overall though is a good movie even if you didn't love the first Lion King this is something to see on a rainy day with your kids or friends just to see what happens next in the Simba story. I did have to fast forward through some of the songs like Upendi and My Lulaby as they became more annoying then enjoybale. Also for those that don't know parts were cut out of this sequel in the final stages and these missing scenes do make a difference as they explain a lot of stuff that doesn't quite make sense. The missing parts are available on the net somewhere and they explain more of the outlanders and make Nuka role that much more powerful. Why they removed these parts I don't know but leave it to Disney to over edit it's work. In closing defenatly see it and make your own judgements. Remember though that this probably won't be as special as the first was as you just can't beat the first but it is actually enjoyable with some good battles and good character development. Just have the Fast Forward button ready to get through some of the songs and some of the boring parts.

I liked this movie somewhat. However, there were several things that I didn't like about this one. First of all, this movie was clearly marketed towards young children, in contrast the the first, which was marketed for young adults. Meaning, that if a young child sees this one, the parent will most likely allow them to watch the first. That is not a good choice. The material in that one, is far to graphic for a very young child. Just to note that. Some of the voices are different and many of the characters are not at all the same as they were in TLK. The animation was not well done, and the soundtrack was horrible. The character of Zira just annoyed me to no end. Mufasa's ghost is used as a commonplace thing. When in the first, it was to set his son straight. Simba suffers from obsessive father complex, which makes no sense comparing his character in the first movie. Nala's character (and voice) is to much like Simba's mother, Sarabi. (And, how did her eyes turn from green, to deep blue over a time period of a few months?) However, I did like the characters of Kovu and Kiara. I would suggest this movie to young kids, But please, for their sake, don't let them see the first untill they are older.

This film is amazing can people leave it alone yes its not a good asthe original but it is worthy of being its predecessor Disney have notmade many good sequels which is why they send them straight to film butthis is amazing to begin with it starts where the first movie left ofbut this time the song "He lives in you" is played which is like thecircle of life but not if you understand plus in the first movie itsmentioned by rafiki, the song has emotion and soul although i would oflikes if they used the complete song and not the shortened version. ilove how kiara is like the girl version of simba and i like how kovucan be his own character but still have some aspects or nala being headstrong. the songs "We are one" and "My Lullaby" are another twoemotional songs but "we are one" is basically the song version ofmufasa's talk with simba about the great kings and yet its stillpowerful while "lullaby" is almost like a copy of scar's "Be Prepared"so may not be as great as the original, i would admit "in upendi" isn'tthe best song and doesn't show that much emotion like the rest andthere are not as many strong musical moments like in the first one but"Not One Of Us" is my personal favourite its so amazing the songcaptures me every time and drags me in its so emotional, the song is sodeep and meaningful and is probably the only song which doesn't have acounterpart in the first movie, but the way all the animals come as onein harmony makes it even more enjoyable and the way the animals shakethere heads, it makes me want to copy them ha. after "Love Will Find aWay" is the equivalent to "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" but still isas touching and as moving as the original i give the soundtrack 8/10and the film 8/10 I'm amazed at this and wish thank you Disney and allwho have made it what it is you will never be forgotten

After being disapointed by several of Disney's sequals (I'm talking about the crummy artistry), I was delighted with the work they put into this great movie. It did have a few loose ends (where did all the lionesses come from . . . and how come, if Scar hand-picked Kovu to be his sucsessor, he wasn't older than Kiara?) but other than that, it was a great film. Plus the names were ingenious. Did you know that "Kovu" means "Scar"? And "Zira" means "Hate"? I think that fit her prerfectly, and that song she sings "My Luliby," is positively ingenious. The one thing I didn't like was that Mufasa told Rafiki what to do about his granddaughter and Kovu . . . it goes against my beliefs. I wish they would have just left Mufasa out of this second one and had Rafiki think it up by himself. But otherwise I was very pleased. This movie is great! A must-see for Lion King fans. C.I. And I'm not exaggerating either. I loved this movie as a child and Istill love it now. Its full of the same magic as the first Lion King.Don't get me wrong, of course the first one is better. But I just lovethis one too. The songs are well-written, fun and catchy. Zira makes aformidable foe and a worthy Disney villain in my books. And thestory/plot is lovely with an important message at the end. And i thinki laughed more at Timon and Pumba's antics in this one than i did inthe original so the humour factor is also there. Disney, take a goodlook at this movie next time you feel the need to bring out a sequelbecause its definitely one of the better ones :D

I feel that this movie could be made better. The story line seems to be the same as the earlier version. The Characters of-course are good. Kiara and Kovu are the two new additions.

There is no way to deny it (and why would you?): The Lion King is animation at it's finest. The sequal, however, is no more then an attempt to cash in on the good version.Start at the beginning. The Lion King had one of the strongest openings I have ever seen, a magnificant score over an epic sweep, as Simba is proclaimed king.Simba's Pride steals a song from the Broadway musical. It's a nice song, but it's hardly strong enough to pull you in. Then, they actually have Timon and Pumba talk before the title screen. The Lion King, by contrast, had the title screen appear the second the song climaxed. The problem is, "They Live in You" doesn't climax; it fades. To be fair to the song, neither does the movie. There is sort of a zenophobic feel to parts, as Simba and Zazu talk about the "Outsiders" that were banished for unknown crimes. They are loyal to Scar, although why is never stated; perhaps because he never kicked them out. Lead by Scar's mate, they groom her son, Kovu (although, to be clear, he is not Scar's son, so no incest is going) to kill Simba and take his place. But he becomeas good, falls in love, yada yada yada, movies over. The music has some decent parts, but nothing on par with "I Just Can't Wait to be King", the weakest (in my veiw) song of the Lion King. And the background score is in the shadow of the majesty of the Lion King. There are only a few parts with choral voices as music-another minus, as singing under a scene is a universal good.Honsetly? If you didn't like the Lion King, there's nothing here for you. If you did, and you've seen it fifteen times, watch it again. There's stil nothing here for you that the original doesn't have ten times over.

This review is from: The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride (Two-Disc Special Edition) (DVD) For the longest time I had been hoping to get this movie to share with my (much) younger siblings. Upon finding it wasted no time purchasing. It was wonderful. A movie enjoyed by all. Kudos for selling a great product.

"The Lion King" was by far one of the best animated movies of all time. And like most great Disney animated films, it got a direct-to-videosequel later on."The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride" takes place immediately after the endof the first film, and it turns out Simba and Nala's new son isactually a girl. Simba's daughter Kiara befriends Kovu (who was chosento be Scar's successor by Scar himself), but Simba and Zira (Kovu'smother) disapprove. Later, as young adults, Kiara and Kovu fall inlove, and need to be together. The voice cast from the original movie have all returned (except RowanAtkitson), but they don't do near as good of a job as they did in thepredecessor.Zira is not near as good of a villain as Scar was, but she's okay. Kovuand Kiara are very uninteresting leads, and I didn't care much forZira's other children either. Simba wasn't too great in this movieeither, and Timon and Pumbaa weren't that funny at all this time. The soundtrack was rather dull in this movie too. There wasn't a singlesong in the movie that was particularly memorable, and I just didn'tlike any of them. The best thing about "The Lion King 2" is the animation, which issurprisingly amazing for a direct-to-video film."The Lion King 2" was certainly one of the better direct-to-videosequels. It's definitely not as bad as the terrible "Return of Jafar",or the forgettable "Kronk's New Groove", but it was okay considering itwas a direct-to-video sequel. It certainly wouldn't have made it on thebig screen, and it's really not a movie I like to watch often. It'sjust disappointing compared to the first film.Overall "The Lion King 2: Simba's Pride" is an average film, but goodfor a direct-to-video sequel. I still don't really recommend it, and Ithink it was really an unnecessary sequel. Not bad, but not goodeither.Rating: 5/10 "average"

I particularly would not recommend this movie for children under 6. The only positive message for kids to readily take from this movie comes at the very end. My advice: if you have to judge this movie for yourself, rent it and preview before letting the kids watch it.
