doesn't really add anything to the story

There was really no need to make this movie other than to make moremoney. It's not like it added anything to the Shrek story. Plus itwasn't as good and had a really short run time at well under 90minutes. Nothing made me laugh in this, but I'm sure kids will stilllove it. This time, Shrek signs a deal with Rumpelstilskin to erase aday of his life so he can be a scary orge again. What he doesn't knowis Rumpelstilskin has plans to take over Farawayland and be king. To dothis, he must see that Shrek never saved Fiona from the dragon. So,Shrek is taken to an alternate world where he never met Fiona and mustget her to fall in love again or disappear forever. Quite a few of theother characters make appearances, but Donkey is the only one givenanything to do.Final Verdict: a story works good the first time, but by the thirdmovie it's old. skip it.

Blu-ray and DVD combo pack

This review is from: Shrek Forever After (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo) (Blu-ray) My only comment is that I was disappointed to discover that "Donkey's Christmas Shrektacular" is only included on the Blu-ray disc and not the DVD in the combo pack. I feel a little ripped off by this.

Shrek 4

This review is from: Shrek Forever After (Two-Disc Blu-ray/DVD Combo) (Blu-ray) I was prepared not to like this movie because the last one was so disappointing. I was pleasantly surprised to really enjoy this movie. It was almost as good as the original! I think everyone will be pleased with this purchase.

All good things have to come to an end.

I like Shrek 1 and 2, but part 3 was so annoyingly bland. But ShrekForever After makes up for that, it had great animation, and a greatstory also.Shrek and Fiona are settling in family life with there three kids. Butthe stress of everyday family life begins to catch up with Shrek. Andhe begins to miss the old days. Ends up running into Rumplestillskenand makes a deal to have a day to himself, but Shrek quickly discoversthat he signed his whole life away, and that Donkey, Puss N' Boots, andFiona don't know him. And Shrek has a whole day to get his life back orhe will be erased out existence.Mike Myers is always good, as the voice of the lovable but cantankerousogre Shrek, Eddie Murphy Cameron Diaz and Antonio Banderas are good inthere returning voices as Donkey, Fiona, and Puss N' Boots. And notmention Walt Dornm, Jon Hamm, Craig Robinson, and Jane Lynch, arememorable also. It's a shame that this is the final chapter, but I likeI said all good things have to come to an end.

Enjoyable but not much originality

Shrek 4 is enjoyable but it is clear the franchise has reached the endof its tether. There are a few good gags and the affection we have forthe main characters almost wills us to enjoy the ride but we are goingover very familiar territory.Shrek becomes bored with mundane family life and does a deal withRumplestiltskin for a day as a "real" ogre. In return Rumplestliltskingets to erase the day Shrek was born which means (the details aren'treally important) that Mr R now rules Far Far Away. As a characterRumplestiltskin has a few amusing quirks, such as having a differentwig for every occasion and having witches for henchmen. However heisn't as entertaining as the original characters. The rest of the film involves Shrek trying to get out of the deal aswell as convincing Fiona (who now doesn't know him) that he is her truelove. We also meet alternative reality versions of Puss and Donkey. The kids will enjoy the slapstick and funny voices but accompanyingadults will realise early on that this film was really only made forthe money.

Going Green has never felt Better!

For a fourth movie, it is quite entertaining! I suggest going to the 3D version, because IMO... 3D makes everything better!I won't give spoilers, but really PUSS IN BOOTS IS THE BEST EVER! you should watch it just because the kitty and donkey are funny.

movies

I loved the first Shrek. It was part of my childhood growing up. Thesecond was when I was a teenager. The second one was just as good asthe first one. Third one was a huge let down for me. As was this one.Part of the reason why I liked this was because the whole cast returnto do their character voices. So it's great that no one pulled out, fantastic! The problem with this movie is the humor falls flat as doesthe plot and characters. The first two we would understand and feelsomething for the characters. in this one you just don't care not onelittle bit. I wont explain the plot, but you will see what I mean. Thewhole plo9t just seemed pointless. It all ended up being predictableand you knew exactly what was going to happen. SOMETIMES things can bepredictable and fun, in this one it's just predictable and stupid.I really don't know what else to say. The script was badly written.Only thing I can recommend this for is if you are Shrek Die hard Fanswho will love the characters no matter what! 4/10 Was the above reviewuseful to you? http://diethealth.weebly.com

Shrek Forever After

This review is from: Shrek Forever After (Donkey's Christmas Shrektacular Double Pack) (DVD) This Shrek is better than the 3rd one. The Christmas Shrektacular DVD, the part with Donkey is not very good but Shrek's yule log is cute.

I enjoy them..

This review is from: Shrek Forever After / Donkey's Christmas Shrektacular (Two Pack) (DVD) I have to say i love the Shrek movies especially the 2nd one but its enough now with the full lenght movies, although i do very much enjoy the shrek the halls and the holloween shorts they do. That would be enough for me.

A

I have to give 'Shrek Forever After' an A. I use to absolutely hate the Shrek movies and I went to see the musical in NYC cause that looked pretty good and ever since then, I fell in love with Shrek. I love all the movies now and this one is no exception. I thought the story was good. I never truly laughed out loud at a movie and Shrek Forever After had me cracking up. I still can't get over the graphics - if you really look at them, it's amazing how they get freckles and everything that you wouldn't see unless you were close up. It still amazes me. The only downside for me was the 3D. Without 3D glasses, watching any of the Shrek movies, they all look 3D already at least to me. So therefore, the 3D glasses didn't really do anything for me and was a wasted extra $3.00. I would see this movie again in a heartbeat though. I definitely recommend it.

Entertaining but lacks punch

Nothing can surpass the success and originality of the first couple of Shrek movies. However, this movie still delivers with updated themes and jokes. The Shrek series is the best satire animation series and is good at making fun at popular culture.- Familiarity. Characters are relatively the same. Good character development as usual.- Animation. Good as it has always been- Story lacks a little bit and doesn't give us quite a punch as before. I was not blown away or impressed with the story. Very safe and doesn't take risks like previous Shrek movies- Themes are appropriate.Definitely suitable for adults and adults will get the jokes, but children may not understand some of themes. Overall, funny and good entertainment

The second best one... so far.

In a nutshell, better than the second and third movies, but not as goodas the first. It wasn't nearly as funny as I expected. At first I figured this wasdue to a fairly empty auditorium (you know how infectious laughter canbe). Then I began wondering if perhaps I was just becoming too old andlong in the tooth for that particular brand of humour. Finally itdawned on me that much of my own amusement was diluted by the fact thatI'd seen most of the funny bits already... on the movie trailers.Shrek 4 is yet another victim of the trailer curse, which definitelyseems to ruin comedies more than any other movie type. As per usual, the two trailers I'd seen before finally catching the movie, seemeddetermined to show all of the laugh-out-loud moments.Have you ever noticed that comedies such as Knocked Up and The Hangoverare so much more successful and talked about simply because thetrailers show far less (in Knocked Up's case, they used just onescene).Anyway, Shrek 4 was entertaining enough despite the afore mentionedissue. I did laugh out loud a couple of times as did most others in thecinema. The story is fun and quite clever. The voice acting is topnotch as always and the animation is as fantastic as you'd expect. So if by some miracle you can avoid the movie trailers then I expectyou'll enjoy this movie more than I did. Otherwise, watching this funbit of animation isn't a bad way to spend an afternoon :)

A More Mature Shrek - A Worthy Last Installment

Our favorite ogre Shrek is back for its final installment, and this waspresented in 3D. 3D is getting to be norm nowadays, it seemed alreadyordinary. There are only few scenes in this movie that the 3D actuallyinspired awe. Maybe watching in 2D would be enough, in retrospect. In Shrek Forever After, Shrek is getting bored with his routine familylife and misses his terrorizing ogre days terribly. After his emotionalbreakdown during his triplet's birthday party, Shrek signs a deal withthe devious and cunning Rumpelstiltskin to experience to become realogre again for a day. However, in return, the contract makes Shrek losemore than he bargained for -- everyone he loves. To break the spell,Shrek to make Fiona fall in love with him all over again. The theme is definitely more mature. The scenes where Shrek was tryingto reconnect with the warrior Fiona were actually heartwarming andcharming. The lines towards the end about love and family were verynice and touching. Shrek's very last words were a most meaningfulparting message to the dads and moms in the audience.Donkey and Puss were there to provide effective comic relief, asalways. I did not really like the look of the main villain,Rumpelstiltskin, so that detracted from my total enjoyment. I thoughttheir interpretation of the Pied Piper, however, was quite smart.I thought the Shrek franchise went the wrong direction with its insipidthird movie. The first two were really animation classics in terms ofcomedy and action. This fourth one fortunately went back on track inthe correct path. While not in the same caliber as the first two, thiswas certainly a very good last episode of the franchise.

Senior Citizen review

My husband and I are both seniors. I must admit that I got so caught up in the movie until I forgot it was animated. It was a great story and very well put together! We both loved it!

May this be the last

This review is from: Shrek Forever After (Single-Disc Edition) (DVD) Shrek is the animated corollary of the Aliens, Friday the 13th, Predators and Indiana Jones franchise; stop after 1. Each successive incarnations of Shrek have been less funny, less original and less engaging than the previous one. But they have all been financially profitable, including this fourth and final one. Starring almost all the same characters found in the first or second movies, this one has the plus of having fewer spoofs of other movies. There are funny scenes, all in the same style as the previous 3 movies; a mix of gallows, toilet, black and slapstick humor. There is a new antagonist, though all the protagonists are the same. And there is Shrek's children, though they do little besides provide bodily functions. Overall, an OK film, and a quiet denoument of a successful animated franchise, unlike the glorious ending of Toy Story 3.

Nice Aerial Action Scenes

This 4th installment of Shrek is very unique in that it has some very impressive Aerial Action sequences.Firstly there is Shrek and His Family riding along with Donkey and his family. What is really cute about this scene are the small Donkey/Dragon kids that are flying alongside their mother. It has all the makings of a cool high flying family outing.Next there is the action scene where Shrek is riding a witch's broom. He is being chased by a bunch of witches that are hurling bombs at him through various corridors and levels of a vast castle. It reminded me a bit of the final action sequence in the very first Star Wars movie (Episode 4).Finally Shrek and Fiona go into a sort of high flying circus act to tie up the dragon (Donkey's wife in the alter universe). In my opinion all these high flying action sequences make this movie well worth the watch!

Not the best Shrek film but a fine closure for the series

Since 2001, Shrek has touched our hearts with humor and charm and hasbecome a major icon in the animation industry. The first two Shrekfilms were great fun delivering amusing fairy tale satire and memorablecharacters. Shrek the Third however, never got my attention and I herdit was pretty bad so I decided to skip it.Now we have Shrek Forever After (aka, The Final Chapter), the four andfinal film in the series. I didn't get interested in this one either. But when I saw that this movie was playing on a Qantas flight I was onto Sydney, I decided to give it a chance. The plot in the final installment is fairly interesting. Shrek hasgrown tired of being a father and a celebrity and wishes to live thedays of an ogre again. He is later scammed into a deal withRumpelstiltskin to become "ogre for a day" and finds himself in twistedversion of Far Far Away where Rumpelstiltskin is King and Shrek isknown to nobody (not even Fiona who is now an hunting ogre). Shrek muststop Rumpelstiltskin's evil deed before it's too late. It's a decentpresentation.DreamWorks gives out plenty of action in this entry (which the secondone lacked) and this does bring the memories of the first film.Speaking of previous films, Forever After has a good number ofconnections with past events in the series. There aren't as many laughsas there were in the previous films, but it does deliver it's funnybits quite well such as break dancing witches.Visuals are a big treat in this installment as they have improved a lotover the years. They're fantastic. All the main cast are back and theydeliver a reasonable performance for their characters. Walt Dohrnhowever, does a great job providing the voice for the antagonistRumpelstiltskin showing a great expression of wit and evilness.Overall, it's a fun entry for the series. But is The Final Chapter thebest of the four Shrek films? Not exactly, but it doesn't have to be.Shrek 4 may not have the magic from the first two films but what itdoes do is improve over it's poor predecessor and end the once doomedseries with charm and dignity. Shrek's Wonderful Life

This fourth intallment of Shrek, SHREK FOREVER AFTER, is, IMHO, the best of the Shrek films. The fun is back (minus the juvenile potty humor that invaded the 2nd and 3rd films), the story is delightful, and the message is clear. My kids (13 1/2 and 5 1/2) both loved this movie, as did my husband and I.SHREK FOREVER AFTER is based losely on the story from "It's A Wonderful Life." Here, we find that our favorite ogre is confused by his new role in the kingdom. He used to live a solitary life, scaring people and doing whatever he felt like doing; now he has a family, responsibilities, and is viewed as a folk hero. In a fit of frustration, Shrek wishes that he could be a regular ogre and live his former life, just for a day. Rumplestiltskin overhears his wish and tricks Shrek into trading his "ogre day" for the day he was born. Shrek finds that he never rescued Fiona, he never had a family, never met his friends, and that he will diappear at the end of his ogre day. But there is a way out of his contract with Rumplestiltskin. Can true love still conquer all and save the day?SHREK FOREVER AFTER is cute, fun, and charming family entertainment. The animation is beautiful, vibrant, and vivid, the story is engaging, and all our favorite voice actors are back. The message of being happy with what you have is perfect, and is understood by children of all ages. SHREK FOREVER AFTER has heart, and should not be missed. If this is the final installment, then SHREK FOREVER AFTER is truly the perfect way to end the franchise.
