Aaron Greenberg (Hill) gets things done. The ambitious 23-year-old has exaggerated his way into a dream job just in time for a career-making assignment. His mission Fly to London and escort a rock god to L.A.s Greek Theatre for the first-stop on a 100-million tour. His warning Turn your back on him at your own peril. British rocker Aldous Snow (Brand) is both a brilliant musician and walking sex. Weary of yes men and piles of money, the former front man is searching for the meaning of life. But that doesnt mean he cant have a few orgies while he finds it. When he learns his true love is in California, Aldous makes it his quest to win her backright before kick-starting his world domination. As the countdown to the concert begins, one intern must navigate a minefield of London drug smuggles, New York City brawls and Vegas lap dances to deliver his charge safe and, sort of, sound. So much potential

I'm a fairly rabid Brand fan, mostly because he brings a sense ofphilosophy and sophistication to his truly crass comic material that isunseen with most modern comedians. Accordingly, I went through to GetHim To The Greek with high expectations. The opening scene - ahilarious satire of Bono/Geldof-style charity music videos - had mejust about convinced that this would live up to Brand's reputation.Sadly, for the rest of the film his own comic sensibilities jarsomewhat with Stoller's awkward scripting. Every part of me wanted tolike this film, even the reliance on toilet humour and unfunnycelebrity cameos. It worked about 50% of the time, hence the score. What I see in place of a really good movie is a really good idea thatcould have, with the right people at the helm, become a classic rock'n' roll spoof in the vein of Spinal Tap and The Rutles. Instead it's ageneric, bombastic '00s Hollywood comedy script crafted around themusic business.

Don't even rent this movie, wait for it on TNT

This movie has a handful of funny parts and that's it. Nowhere near asgood as Forgetting Sarah Marshall and doesn't make any genuine effortsto tie in the two movies at all. Diddy cannot act. Jonah Hill isn'tfunny at all in this film and Russell Brand is probably better servedas a supporting actor because his comedic routine gets old very fast. The best role comes from Rose Byrne who unfortunately only spends about15 minutes on screen, the interactions between her and Brand'scharacter as the highlight of the movie and it probably would've been10x more entertaining had they just focused the film strictly on therelationship of those two odd characters. If you enjoy overacting andsimple punchlines, this movie will be right up your alley, otherwise doyourself a favor and save ten bucks.

Close but no cigarr

I might be negative but this was one of the worst movies i've everseen. Not even all the cameos from example Lars Ulrich, Pink, KurtLoder, Himself (as Kurt F. Loder) or Christina Aguilera that made mevery interested in seeing it when i heard of it. But big mistake!Very slow-paced, not many comical moments, verbal or otherwise, ruinsthis film quite a lot since it's one of those movies that has greatpotential if only the director and script writer to name a few had madesome real effort in the making and not just rushing it.Russel Brand on the other hand is the one guy here that's actuallyfunny for one times sake so it's not all bad, but not far from itsadly. My recommendation is to stay away from this movie if you expect acomedy with lots of laughs, cause that this is not.

Seriously Funny

This review is from: Get Him to the Greek (Single-Disc Edition) (DVD) If you liked Hangover, you will probably love Greek... if not, oh well. Way funnier, I think, than Sarah Marshall (several of the same actors)... Many friends have watched and each seems to have adopted a particular scene... Hilarious! (but then I have a weak spot for sick humor... not offensive though).

Surprisingly great film

Finally! A comedy that doesn't bank of copious amounts of stupidity andoverused jokes to "entertain" its audience. Get Him to the Greekactually managed to entertain me enough to be considered not justanother silly comedy. It's not to say that the film isn't silly, orraunchy, or over the top, but it's all done in a fashionable manner. Ithad me laughing practically through the entire film. In Get Him to theGreek Russell Brand reprises his role as Aldous Snow, a selfdestructive rock star whose first appearance was in Forgetting SarahMarshall in 2008. At this point in time, however, Aldous is a has-beenrocker after the utter failure of his last studio album. Jonah Hillplays Aaron Green who is a record company intern who is in charge ofsetting up Aldous Snow's reunion concert at the Greek Theater in L.A.Aldous proves to be absolutely uncontrollable and completely insane. Hefits all the criteria of a true rock star. He's got a big personalityand attitude, he's addicted to booze and women, and he's also on drugs.Lots of drugs. The ensuing journey is full of shocking hilarity andscandalous behavior. The great thing about Get Him to the Greek is that it is just a comedythat pulls out all the ridiculous stops, but I can actually go as farto say that it is a well made film and slightly more credibility thanjust some good laughs. Russell Brand is hilarious as the overzealousdrugged up rock star and Jonah Hill, while I do tire of his typecastrole, does a great job here, stepping up his game to a slightly highermaturity level while still retaining his quirkiness. And Brand and Hilltogether as a pair do fantastic. Their chemistry is completely thereand provides for some great character interaction with increasinglyfunny results. The supporting cast do a great job as well with peoplelike Rose Byrn playing Aldous' ex-girlfriend Jackie Q who sports anadorably hilarious Australian/British hybrid accent. There is also P.Diddy Combs who plays the manager of the record company Aaron worksfor. He impressed me with some of the most twisted and monumentallyfunny moments of the whole movie. The whole cast has fun with this oneand they don't refrain from going as far into the insane world of rockand roll as they can.The other great thing about this movie is that it is a movie about rockand roll. It's a comedy first but it actually has legitimately rockingscenes that are so fun and exciting that you can't help but enjoy therocking grandeur of this comedy. It's also helpful that the filmsucceeds on these levels so that some of the issues can be forgiven. There are definitely some plot holes and odd moments that make you do adouble take as to how reasonable this plot really is. The film alsodoes seem to get lost in itself towards the end. It randomly squeezesin a bit of philosophical intrigue towards the end that breaks the flowof the film to an extent. Problems like these are excusable against thefunny and entertaining backdrop of this film.In the long line of Apatow Production films Get Him to the Greek standsout as one of the funnier films. Its a great no holds bars comedy thatyou can find humor in somewhere. And despite the issues and the gettinglost in itself, the film indeed has a heart. It's one of the fewcomedies that has come out in recent years that I would consider goingback to re watch.

Yes, I laughed but it is mostly a disappointment… the Russell Brand/Jonah Hill stuff from "Forgetting Sarah Marshall" was funnier

It's been a while since I watched FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL (and awhile since I don't write a IMDb comment). I recall watching it twicein less than four days… it's, simply, a darn hilarious movie. A spin-off? Yes, here it is. I was really looking forward to watch GETHIM TO THE Greek, and a couple of days ago I ran across its R4 DVD (itwas never released in theaters here in Mexico City). Well, I'm sure oftwo things: 1. Jonah Hill is gaining weight, as he is getting less andless funny (still he knows how to sing the Mars Volta!). 2. RussellBrand's Aldus Snow is a hilarious character that worked much better asa minor "just for the fun" one. As I remember, their stuff in "Sarah Marshall" delivered pretty muchthe greatest laughs of the movie (here Jonah Hill plays a completelydifferent character tough). It was a simple situation: rock stardealing with a fan, (who is basically in love with him). Here we have asimilar situation: same rock star dealing with a young man who works inthe music business and who is also a huge fan. Laughs? Yes, we do havelaughs, is pretty much inevitable having a guy like Brand (I would say"like Hill" too but like I said, he is losing it and certainly a not-just-for-the-fun part, the exact we have here, doesn't fit himextremely well) but the movie never really feels like something fresh, like something worthy. It's a movie to see only once, that's for sure.6.5 out of 10

It KILLED me

Russel Brand is just as funny as can be. Super cast and just very well done. Be warned, some of the humor is not for the feint of heart. Also, for those of you who didn't know, the character of Aldous Snow was featured in Forgetting Sarah Marshall and they allude to it in this movie. You will appreciate it that much more if you've seen that movie too.

Almost, but not quite what I was expecting

Going into this movie I was expecting a fun comedy movie, Russell Brandwas going to be the stand out cast member and there was going to betons of swearing and sexual innuendo. I was not disappointed. If you are after the above then go see this movie but be warned, thisis not all about laughs. I had spoken to a friend who saw this beforeme who told me that she was quite concerned with the over the top druguse portrayed in the movie. For me this didn't concern me in theslightest as in some of the scenes it really did enhance the comedy. The problem is that the writers of the script tried very hard to pushan anti-drug message throughout the movie, for which I have massiverespect. The problem was the timing of the delivery of this message. Ina lot of scenes you have just wet yourself laughing (at drug use), tobe promptly smacked in the face with the anti-drug message. This left me feeling a little guilty for laughing to be honest.Mind you, I haven't laughed this hard in the cinema since I saw TheHangover so it wasn't doing many things wrong.Despite all of this I would suggest waiting for the DVD.

it's not greek to me.....

This review is from: Get Him to the Greek (Single-Disc Edition) (DVD) this flick was HI-larious!*#!!!...i loved "forgetting sarah marshall" - and this was a worthy sequel, although it ain't really a sequel in the sense of carrying on the plot line...it's a whole new flick - just following one of the most memorable characters from the first one, played by that whacky russel brand....the guy's not only funny, and has a clear sense of his character, but is actually a good actor, bringing (later on in the film) a touching pathos to his rock star that raises the bar on his portrayal...this is not rocket science, but a brave comedy that supplies not just the now-expected "gross-out factor", but some genuine laughs and solid comedic performances, as well...and how did they get such a stellar group of actors to play such (to put it politely) "low" comedy?....colm meany can make you laugh and cry at the same time for his "loser dad" portrayal, and diane stahl manages to make the mother memorable, funny and quite scary, with little screen time and a few well-placed brush strokes from her acting kit....this one's a keeper....

One in the eye for Daily Mail reader

Aaron Green (Jonah Hill) works for a record company and is tasked withgetting hard living but has-been rock star Aldous Snow (Russell Brand, playing the character first seen in Forgetting Sarah Marshall) fromLondon to Los Angeles in time for a comeback concert, despite Snow'sconcentrated efforts to indulge in sex and drug fuelled rock'n'rollchaos instead. As a Daily Mail reader of mature years I hate Russell Brand, of course, and I deplore the vast amount of recreational drug use and the constantbad language in this movie, of course, and I have hated Jonah Hill eversince I first loathed the character he played in Superbad. So there wasno way I was going to enjoy this movie. Of course. How could I? Thing is, this is a very funny movie. The humour ranges widely fromcharacter based, to verbal, to situational (and, yes, to unmentionablebody parts, sexual matters and drugs) and is often laugh out loudfunny. The mostly young audience I watched with laughed a lot, and sodid I. Brand is a very talented man - he sings well, has an engagingscreen presence, and knows how to use his face and body to excellentdramatic and comedic effect. I even warmed to Jonah Hill, playing amuch more sympathetic character than usual. And Rose Byrne, usually soserious, was an absolute revelation, playing Snow's gorgeous (and moresuccessful) ex, Jackie Q, with earthy and very funny gusto, and anoccasionally dodgy gawd luv us cockerny accent. The music is quite good, too, being peppered with songs in the samevein as Snow's videos in Sarah Marshall, ie. effective and enjoyablespoofs of their particular genres, with lyrics which are justoverstated enough to be effective parodies of something which you oftenwouldn't think couldn't be parodied.I enjoyed this film a LOT more than I expected to.

Garbage to garbage

Russell Brand is the WORST. What an annoying human being. When he was done ruining this movie with his presence, he ruined Katy Perry.

A fun raunchy comedy that hits the mark

I was lucky enough to see an advanced screening of this movie last weekin Las Vegas and there was a short Q&A with Russel Brand and Jonah Hillafter the screening. I would say this movie is a solid 7.5 out of 10, but that isn't reallyan option. The comedy in this movie lands well almost all of the time, and the story more or less takes a backseat to the comedy until thefinal 30 minutes or so. That is really the only part where the movie falls short. The storyputters along adding more and more along the way, and the closingstruggles to wrap it all up because it doesn't do anything to investitself along the way. But the whole idea of the movie is to put thestory in the backseat and have the audience enjoy the ride of theloosely stringed together jokes, and that is where it shines.T.J. Miller (notable from Cloverfield and She's Out of My League) has afantastic turn as a concierge that Aaron has a short run-in with. RoseByrne does a fantastic job of moderately offending you while making youlaugh, and it is a definite departure from her past roles. There areplenty of fantastic cameos that serve their purpose to elevate thecomedy to another level. By far, Sean "P. Diddy" Combs steals the show as Sergio. The naturalbiased to accepting him as an actor dissolves by the time his firstscene is over and you're too busy laughing to care anymore. The powerof the comedy that was wrote for him overpowers your want for an actoryou thought would be better suited for the role. It isn't until thehotel- chase sequence that you realize the casting was perfect for him. This film sets out to make you laugh and does exactly that in spades. The only qualms come from the story aspect, and when you're going tosee a movie like this you shouldn't ever expect too terribly much fromthe story. "Get Him to the Greek" is extremely funny, easily watchable, and does its semi-source material (Forgetting Sarah Marshall) justice.

Very funny movie

This movie is just as funny as Forgetting Sarah Marshall, directorNicholas Stoller's debut as a director. He makes a very solidsophomoric effort here with Get Him to the Greek, which is a spin offon Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Stoller knows how to make the situationshilarious and how to make the laughs keep coming scene after scene.Jonah Hill is hilarious in the leading role as Aaron Green, arepresentative at a music company who has to get singer Aldous Snow(Russell Brand) to the Greek Theater in Los Angeles in three days.Brand is a riot reprising his role as Aldous Snow. Brand shows thatAldous Snow is still just as ridiculous as he was in Forgetting SarahMarshall, but he also shows us that there is to more to Aldous Snowthan we thought we knew.Rose Byrne plays Jackie Q, a singer and ex-girlfriend of Aldous. Shedoes a fine job, but she isn't given a whole lot to do with this role. The same goes for Elisabeth Moss, who plays Aaron's girlfriend Daphne.Moss is given more to work with and she does a good job.Sean Combs (a.k.a. P.Diddy) is a scene stealer and a hilarioussupporting player as Sergio, Aaron's boss. Combs is a riot and showsthat he can do comedy. The laughs keep coming and the situations are absolutely laugh out loudfunny. While not as funny as Forgetting Sarah Marshall, it is still avery solid effort from all involved. Judd Apatow is one of the bestcomedy producers out there today, and he proves it again here. If youliked Forgetting Sarah Marshall, you should like Get Him to the Greek.

I have lost hope in humanity

My mind told me to walk away 10 seconds in.In spite of that, I watched for another hour and 15 minutes. I regretit horribly and wish I could erase this movie from my mind. The people who rate this thing above a 5 must have extensive braindamage.Movies like this should be blacklisted by environmental agencies forthe health hazard that it is. I feel dumber after watching this and mybrain actually wants to puke.I will never watch another movie involving Russell Brand or the writersof this film. I swear Hollywood is trying to nuke our brains with thispoison.

Why Wasn't "Furry Walls" Nominated For A Best Song Oscar?

"Forgetting Sarah Marshall" contained many interesting characters none more than Russell Brand's Brit rocker Aldous Snow. A vehicle for Snow's character was inevitable and here you have it. "Get Him to the Greek" is reasonably funny but there's no reason to make a sequel. Apparently the public agreed because they didn't exactly rush to the box office for this one. Don't get me wrong. Brand is terrific here but the film contains so many predictable elements. There have been many films about down-on-their-heels performers and this isn't one of the more memorable ones. The cast is good notably Jonah Hill whose star should continue to rise and Sean Combs in a star-making turn as an acerbic record executive but even they can't elevate the film beyond cliche. The song parodies are pretty good. I'd almost be tempted to buy "African Child" if such an album existed. Word of caution to Brand-I hear you're starring in a remake of "Arthur", the 1981 film about a drunken playboy that starred Dudley Moore. Is it wise for you to typecast yourself and go to this well to often?

For the Younger Audience

This review is from: Get Him to the Greek (2-Disc Unrated Collector's Edition) [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) Get Him to the Greek is a great film. It's definitely a film that you can watch more than once. One concern id that the digital copy that comes with the disc is expired, so you only receive the Blu-Ray. Kind of a let down, but still a great purchase nonetheless. I would recommend the companion film Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Definitely must haves if you lo e the Brat Pack.
