What a blast from the past!

I remember watching repeat runs of the 80's TV series this movie isbased on. Love it as a kid and then as a teenager. This movie versionis such a blast from the past. It's fun, silly and out of this world. Much more entertaining thatMission Impossible or other team-based movies of recent years. Carnahanand his crew have done a top notch job in delivering this baby to us.The casting and acting were terrific, the chemistry between thecharacters is half of the fun, and I'm glad they decided to approachthis movie from a tongue-in-cheek angle. It was the right choice.A thoroughly engaging and fun romp that stays true to the originalseries and such a treat for fans!

A hoot from the word go

The creators of the A-Team TV show were also the producers of this movie, so you have a rare affection for the original, and it shows throughout. From the second scene in the movie on, if you're paying attention you'll split your sides laughing ... and at lines and situations meant to be laughed at. Very importantly, these four guys get it right. Its always hard to live up to well loved TV characters, but this pulled it off. It didn't take long before I was seeing them as the A-Team, and not letting my eyes play tricks in subbing in the faces of the original cast. LOL This film put me in mind of the TV show, but bigger ... which is exactly what a film adaptation of a TV series should do. One big difference ... this A-Team won't shoot at you endlessly without a hit. They kill plenty of bad guys. Action scenes are interesting, which is hard to do these days when so many films with wild action scenes have come before. This film goes back to document the incident that makes the A-Team victims of an unfair court martial, and then fugitives. I enjoyed that segment of the movie, and applaud the creators for setting up the rest of the movie with that story. Viewing tip: We watched this with the sub-titles on, and that turned out to work well. There are many lines that are background asides, or delivered during action sequences and are hard to hear, but contribute to the comedic elements of the film. I guarantee we would have missed a considerable amount of that dialog without the sub-titles on.

Action Packed Reminiscient of the Series

I highly recommend this movie for those of us who grew up with the show and to all younger generations who love action movies. I was pleasantly surprised how many stunts were in this single movie and the story-line was actually pretty complicated. It was action-packed from start to finish. I grew up watching the A-team and my family and I loved this movie. The characters were fun to watch esp. BA who was tough as nails, but also full of surprises and is consistently afraid of flying and the different twists in the movie story line made it feel like I watched at least two-three different movies, but they all eventually tied together. The casting for this film was well done, and hard to live up to as I found myself thinking back to the original show alot at the beginning of the movie. The cameo with the series original "Face" (Dirk Benedict) made me wish to see more cameos with all the original-series' stars, but unless I missed them there was only the one with Dirk (obviously George Peppard (Hannibal) has passed and was missed as his twinkling eyes in the A-team series always kept viewers on the edge of our seats).

A... for absolutely brilliant!

For all of those lazy, so-called 'film critics' out there thatmercilessly criticised and frowned upon this great movie, I have justone thing to say – none of you deserve to have your cushy jobs, youhumourless, miserable twits. If you don't like this movie, then you just don't like fun movies ingeneral – it's as simple as that.Growing up throughout the '80s, a handful of cultural things shaped mychildhood, and formed me, however small, into the guy I am today – theStar Wars saga, the Indiana Jones movies, 'Ghostbusters', 'TheGoonies', 'Knightrider', Etc......And, of course, 'The A Team'.I've always fantasised about a big budget A team movie, and a few yearsback, just for fun, I even wrote a rough plot line/synopsis of what myown personal ideal A team movie would be if it ever got made -surprisingly, it more or less was not too far from this version.I was initially worried upon hearing that an A team flick was in theworks that it may end up being an outright comedy spoof, like therecent 'Starsky & Hutch' movie, but A Team fans needn't have worriedthere. This movie not only updates the classic, wonderfully cheesy TV show, making it into a (slightly) more realistic story, but also captures andpreserves, almost exactly, the original four characters too.Liam Neeson, as far as I'M concerned, IS Hannibal Smith; Bradley CooperIS Templeton 'Face' Peck, 'Rampage' Jackson IS B.A. Barracus (althoughhe's not quite as aggressive as Mr. T. was), and – best of all –Shalrto Copely IS 'Howlin' Mad' Murdock – always my favourite characterEVER in a TV show. The whole tone of the film is spot on; serious/comedic, kind of like'Bad Boys', but without the slightly annoying over-edited Michael Baystyle, yet also, thankfully, ludicrously over the top in parts too -which is just what the A team should always be.(The whole 'flying tank' sequence has to be one of the most OTT,memorable sequences ever committed to celluloid (even though it'smostly CGI), and sums up the spirit of, and what the A team is allabout perfectly) The movie starts off brilliantly; All four characters are introducedsuperbly; the main titles are great; and from then on, it's remains afun, highly enjoyable (and funny) kick-ass action movie until the veryend - full of great action scenes, but also great character moments too(Including the supporting characters as well: Patrick Wilson, as theslimy Agent Lynch, is particularly enjoyable). My only gripe - and it IS only a slight one - is that the classic ATeam theme tune is hardly played at all, and only properly heard whenthe end credits begin, but that doesn't matter too much – at least youDO finally get to hear it, and you can always argue that, as in other'origin' movies like 'Casino Royale' and the latest 'Star Trek', thetheme tune has to be earned before it can be played out fully. All in all (in case you didn't know by now), I thoroughly enjoyed thisfilm, both as an avid A Team fan, AND as a fan of action movies ingeneral, and I hope they make another one, as soon as possible.- 'I love it when a plan comes together!' - Film Guy Lee

Stupid, unnecessary, not funny, violent, lack of original spirit....

I am terribly disappointed with this unnecessary remake of one of thecult TV shows of the 80's (The A-Team). This movie lacks of any of theoriginal spirit of the TV series, it is not funny at all, it is a veryviolent movie with many dead people (did you remember dead people onthe original TV series?), and makes another proof that Hollywood haveno any new idea, they are cheating all of us with all these stupidremakes. About the actors and production values or direction, I can sayis like any other contemporary action movie: lot of camera movements(useless by the way), explosions, etc, but nothing on the originalstyle or spirit by our most loved series from children times, TheA-Team was a funny TV show, a wonderful series plenty of friendshipvalues, funny moments, action but without dead people...Avoid at all cost.

this was so bad in so many ways

What a waste of money this was. First the acting is horrible, but whatis worst is the horrible computer special effects. For a "big budget"action movie, the special effects were terrible and looked so fake, especially near the end with the flying train cars. Also the flyingtank was bad. The plot was nothing imaginative; it was boring, tryingto find stolen money plates. The writer and director of this came upwith nothing new. It was a poor man's version of an action movie likeDie Hard. Die Hard had a decent plot with some funny lines thrown in,this was dumb and not funny.Jessica Biel is poor eye candy. She's a terrible actress.FINAL VERDICT: Avoid at all costs.

Good Movie, bad recording

This review is from: The A-Team (DVD) The movie was 'new' and packaged, and the movie itself was good and quite funny. However, there are SEVERAL spots where the movie hangs up and blurs and then continues to play after a minute or so. If I purchased this at a store I would have quickly taken it back to exchange it...

Put your feet up, don't think, just be entertained

THE A-TEAM succeeded as a television series by Frank Lupo and StephenJ. Cannell because it knew how to mix gore and comedy. The same is truefor the movie version written by Director Joe Carnahan with Brian Bloomand Skip Woods - dipping in to the original series a bit. It is a fastmoving kicker of an evening's entertainment, not a challenge to thebrain but fun all the same. This A-Team has been out of action for a while but regroup to do theimpossible - enter Bagdad and capture the counterfeit plates for100-dollar bills before the 'enemy' makes a mint of fake money. Fromthe get-go this bizarre group of Special Forces soldiers seem to makethings up as they go - the 'plan' being the ideal process but one thatbasically eludes them - or does it? This particular cinematic A-Team iscomposed of the leader Col. Hannibal Smith (a gray haired but fastthinking Liam Neeson), the lady-killer stud Face (a very buff BradleyCooper), hard-nosed mohawked Baracus (Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson) andthe ever so loony Murdock (the new and very promising Sharlto Copley).Put these guys in helicopters, in tanks, in every imaginable disastroussituation and they manage to come out just fine and making hilariousjokes of the whole thing. Part of the pleasure of this otherwiseforgettable film is the obvious fun the cast members are having. Thespecial effects are better than usual, the supporting cast boasts suchactors as Jessica Biel, Gerald McRaney, Patrick Wilson, Yul Vazquez,Henry Czerny, and Jon Hamm - some in roles that pass so fast that theyalmost go unnoticed. Alan Silvestri provides the musical score that isas entertaining on its own as the film itself and the Director ofPhotography Mauro Fiore is the one that give us the impossible effectsa near tenable reality. This is a film to rent or buy for an evening of escapism. It is actionpacked and hilariously funny! Grady Harp

Not great, but not awful either...

I remember the TV show for it's humour and the clever ways HannibalSmith put his 'plans' together. Oh, and the fact that they could fire6,000 bullets in one scene without anybody getting hit. All theseelements feature in the film version and yet, to be honest, I didn'treally care for it all that much. The characters were all verysuperficial, the bad guys were bad, the good guys were not as bad asthe bad guys and I was quite glad when it was over. For a change I won't bother with a summary of the plot, there is oneclever twist in it, but I won't bore you with the details. Let'sinstead have a look at the visuals… The CGI is all very well done, butthere is an awful lot of it. There are plenty of explosions, enough torival a Stallone action blockbuster! There was some nice stunt workthough, both with vehicles and people on the ground, hats off to thoseguys. Although I saw it in 2D it was very obvious it was made for 3Dand it didn't look all that great (IMO).Moving on to performances, well everyone was just about adequate; LiamNeeson was OK as Hannibal, although I thought his accent was totallywrong. Bradley Cooper did a decent job as Face, as did Jessica Biel asCharissa Sosa, the female lead. Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson (now there'sa name to conjure with) did OK (just) as B.A. Baracus and, for me, thestar turn was Sharlto Copley as Murdock, despite the poor material hehad to work with. Moving on to the bad guys, Patrick Wilson did adecent job as Lynch, as did Brian Bloom as Brock Pike.Although visually exciting, I found this one a bit too tame, probablydue to it's 12 rating here in the UK. I would have loved to see a muchgrittier 18 Certificate version, but sadly it's all about money thesedays. At the end of the day it did have a half decent plot, althoughI've not covered it here, and the visuals and the stunts were prettygood. Plot-wise I found it all a bit too tame, but worthy of a watch…Just one mind you.My Score: 6.0/10

Another Movie Made by People who Fail Geography

It is obvious this action movie lack of the entertainment value of theseries. In addition, it is clear to me that Hollywood writers are sopoor they can afford a computer with an internet connection to searchin Wikipedia about the country or culture they are going to talk about.I find irritating, that they use a stinky town as Mexico city. Mexico city is a 20 million habitants city with skyscrapers, housingstates, highways and one of the biggest subway systems in the world. However, people in Hollywood are so stupid and racist they think thetrash in the Universal Studios back lot can pass as any foreigncountry. I not wonder why this movie was a failure in Latin America.Seriously, people I think Hispanics need to start to sue all this neonazi Hollywood directors, producers and writers.

This is the B-Team

As an action movie this was entertaining, but the only similarity it had to what made the orginal A-Team great was the fact that there are 3 white guys and 1 black guy. I grew up watching the A-Team and if you compare this movie to one of their episodes "THIS MOVIE IS LAME!!!"

Really funfilled retooling of the best, ridiculous show ever

Man, oh man. I have to eat my words about not wanting to see this andsaying that it couldn't possibly be as good as the show. This is notthe show by far, but it needs to be recognised as what it is. Silly, good fun.The four principal actors do an admirable job of playing the characterswithout going into complete parody, except maybe Liam Neeson, who seemsnot to be having any fun with the part. The whole movie is full of ridiculous stunts and old movie clichés,where you have not one, but three or more incredibly stupid talkingkillers (see Eberts Movie Glossary). The stunt that made me laugh themost was the one with the tank. Okay, you would never expect that froma live action film. I felt that I was watching Dastardly and Muttley inTheir Flying Machines.Watch out for that after credits scene too. Cameos from 2 of the maincast of the series. It's funny that the remaining one living castmember chose not to participate but you can't really blame him. Itwould have been stunt casting. The climax was a bit too visual effects heavy and you never reallybelieved that the actors were anywhere but in front of a bluescreen. That was a bit disappointing. Also, they almost took the con man out ofTempleton Peck and almost made him a romantic hero instead. Alsodisappointing. But most of the time this was a pleasant way to spend two hours. Theback story of the characters fit nicely. Why they became soldiers offortune, how they were betrayed and so on.

Confusing action sequences - hard to follow

The escapes from Mexico in the beginning and from prison later arequite interesting and amusing. But then it gets bad.Unfortunately the action sequences about the engravings were confusing. How Gerald McRaney was "killed" the first time was unclear. Couldn'tunderstand what was going on at the container port amidst all theexplosions. Poor direction and confusing camera work added to theoverall headache inducing mess. The personalities of the A Team weren't that amusing. Not much humor orwit in the dialog. Mr T was better. The TV series cast had more charm.Bradley is his usual self with no interesting lines to deliver. JessicaBiel is suitably business like here. Basically the screenplay isn't that good. Plus the directing is messy.

A-Team Review

The A-Team was one of the most entertaining films I have seen so farthis year. No, it is no Schindler's List or The Pianist, but it isstill a well-made movie from a certain perspective. This is by no meansa film you want to see if you are looking for depth, but if you arelooking for an action packed guy film, this is it. I thoroughly enjoyedwatching this film with a couple other friends. All of the actors did agreat job with their role. I was especially surprised by the UFCfighter, Quinton "Rampage" Jackson's performance in the film. With allof the explosions and gun-porn in this film, it felt like this moviejust pumped out testosterone into the theater, or maybe it was theAnadraulic State GT I took before hand! If you've been trying to getyour fix for action, then look no further than the A-Team. It's ahighly explosive film full of entertaining action scenes that will haveyou leaving the theater amped I give this film an eight out of ten andrecommend that action-lovers go see it. If you are more interested inmovies like When in Rome or The Notebook, this film will more thanlikely disappoint. However, if you are into Rambo, Terminator, andother films with paramount budgets for explosives, give A-Team a look.

Pretty Good

As it is very hard to give any movie out of 10, this movie scores anhonorable 9 out of 10. With an Enjoyable cast and memorable, (althoughperhaps unrealistic at points, but what movie isn't?) it was aworthwhile approximate two hours of film. Predictable? Of course, butthis is an action movie.I do prefer "more" intelligent movies, when I do watch movies, but thiswas quite satisfactory even for those who claim to be more "in depth"movie goers. But without revealing anything, it is definitely aworthwhile movie, and each actor plays their persona and arch-typicalpersonality pretty well.

Black spot is not revealed

I am the biggest fan of "the A-Team"-series ever wandered on thisplanet! I still watch the DVD's. I just adore the series. If you are going to see this movie while thinking you'd finally foundout how the team got together... you're wrong. Because in the series, there is one black spot and that is how the team got together. How didthey end up running for the authorities? In the first 25 minutes of themovie, I thought I finally got the answer. But while in the series theteam was framed for robbing a bank, in the movie the team if framed forstealing money plates. In the series, the wanted persons are B.A.,Hannibal and Fraceman. Murdock is there, to help the three in need. Inthe movie, they are all wanted. In the series, Dwight Schultz playingH.M. Murdock (his real first name is never revealed, although the rumorgoes it is 'James') is the best character. In the movie, Quintin'rampage' Jackson is by far the greatest actor of them all.Now the good parts: the action scenes are well directed and sometimesgreat inventions. The dialogues are good; but none of them reallyremembers me of the series in the '80's. Jumping out of an airplanewith e tank, hanging on parachutes is just a great invention. Betteris, when the tank is only hanging on one parachute only and the team isthreatened to smash back in earth. In order to make a soft landing, thyare shooting missiles on the earth. This is only one of the greaterinventions in the script.Favorite dialogue: BA (while sitting in the tank, hanging on only oneparachute and crashing back on earth):"We're flying! I hate flying!"Murdock:"Technically, we're not flying"

It should be called "The D Team"

- There's a lot of action and explosions but they're not exciting.- There's no suspense or surprise either. It's just like any old action movies I've seen before. For example, there's a scene where a guy shooting from a tank dropped from a plane. I've seen it before but I don't remember in which movie.- The acting is wooden. In short, there's nothing worth watching here. It should be called "The D Team".

Pleasantly Surprised! Extremely Far-Fetched, but Super Fun!

I went to see this movie without too much expectation. I never reallywatched the series, so I can't really compare it to the movie, butyeah, I was extremely surprised at how fun the movie was.The A-Team movie, based on the 80's TV series, is about a group of theIraq War veterans who wants to clear their names after a mission goeswrong and they are framed. This is followed by Ape-S**t Crazy Action,Explosions, Hand-to-Hand Combat and even more Insane Action. The cast consists of:Liam Neeson as Col Hannibal Smith, The Leader of the Group. He kicksass and loves it when his plans come together. Liam Neeson, as always, rocks the s**t out of everything.Bradley Cooper as Lt 'Faceman' Peck. Mmmm, don't know what to say here.He was average. Funny and Entertaining, but nothing too special.Quintin Jackson as B.A. Baracus- Had big shoes to fill, but think hesucceeded in doing that. An awesome character that beats the s**t outof anyone who messes with him or his fellow marine friends.Sharlto Copley as Murdock (the crazy guy)- Two Words "F**kingHilarious"!The rest of the cast consists of Jessica Biel (The Hottie), PatrickWilson (The Bad Guy) and a couple of other 'dont care' actors.Anyway, I really enjoyed the movie. The Special FX was awesome, thesound & music rocked and the storyline was good. In summary, it is aPopcorn Flick that I would recommend to go see if you want to have agood time at the movies. I give it 7.5 out of 10.

A good adaptation from the 80's TV series

The A-Team maybe isn't the best movie adapted from a TV series, but I'msure that is is one of the most if not the most entertaining and fullof action. The movie follows the story of a group of Iraq War veteranslooks to clear their name with the U.S. military, who suspect the fourmen of committing a crime for which they were framed. It is the typicalaction movie full of explosions, fights, lots and lots of weapons, withvery good humor, a very enjoyable yet predictable story and a decentplot. The cast is very good Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Quinton"Rampage" Jackson, Jessica Biel Patrick Wilson and Sharlto Copleyeveryone with good performances specially Neeson and Cooper, withRampage Jackson in some moments I couldn't stop thinking on Mr. T withhis catchy phrase "I pity the fool.........". In conclusion, The A-Teamis a entertaining and enjoyable movie. Excellent to remember for thosewho watched the 80's series and for those who don't knew it, it's theperfect time to begin.
