The Other Guys

I which I say "The Other Movie", I had feelings that this movie wasn't going to be good and I hoped it was going to be, but it was just flat out stupid. I even liked Ferrell's stupidest movie (that he says that is his worst), Land of the Lost. I loved Land of the Lost, which was in fact dumb, but actually enjoyable. The Other Guys was just painful to watch, I was consistently waiting for the movie to end. I usually LOVE Will Ferrell's movies, but he hasn't made any outstanding movies recently. I believe this has to be one of the worst movies he's made to date. It was just as bad as Grown Ups.

Watch it if your into comedies

Great movie, forget all the people giving 1-3 for this. The plot issuch, that stiff serious people will not like this movie and give it abad review. But if you have a funny bone and your into good comedies and your notserious, then watch this movie. The acting was as good as it gets, what more could a guy ask for. Thisfilm is definitely underrated.Sit back and enjoy a nice easy film with many great jokes that had meand my wife laughing.Would I pay the cinema price? Definitely.

The Other Guys, WIll Ferrel is back.

I was sure that Inception was going to go for 4 weeks in a row on topbut The other Guys topped them with 35 million.Holy crap this movie was awesome. I did not expect anything to comefrom this film because of the fact that Will Ferell had lost his touchin film for a while. With his streak of terrible movies I thought thestreak would continue. This movie was more funny than Dinner forSchmucks, Step Brothers, but not as funny as the Hangover or Hot TubTime Machine.I was particularly happy for two reasons one, my favorite wrestler ofall time is Dwayne Johnson, and that they used the song "My Hero" bythe Foo Fighters, those were just two little kicks for me.Not going to spoil the movie but basically Terry Hoitz (Mark Wahlberg)and Alan Gamble (Will Ferell) are detectives who hate each other, butthrough out the film they learn to co-exist. This is like any typicalcop comedy, but this one packs in all the punches and jokes. Anyways 7out of 10 stars on my part.

TERRIBLE

Ok let me start off by stating I have loved, I mean really loved all Will Ferrell movies and all his SNL skits.. Seriously this was the worst movie I have ever seen in my 32 yrs on this earth. I kept watching only hoping it would start to get good, did not happen! I don't know how this could be so bad considering the amazing cast, please do not be fooled by the names in this movie. All writers and directors were high or really drunk when written/made. Acting was bad, nothing to do with the actors, pretty sure it was just the script. Again let me save you 2 hrs of your life you will never retrieve if you see this 'movie' ... sorry and thanks for letting me vent. .I would have given this -stars if it were possible. (and I want to add an extra 'BOOOO')

The second act moves too slow, but the movie is just hilarious. Excellent stunt driving, too.

In the film, Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg play Adam Gamble and TerryHoitz, two desk jockey police officers who seek to get higher notorietywithin their division. After the abrupt death of the two most respectedcops within the station, they see this as their chance to finally getout of their slump, but they find their plan to bust a hugeembezzlement case with a corporate CEO (Played by Steve Coogan) at itscenter, foiled at every turn by dastardly criminals, and their ownfaulty antics. The film is written and directed by Adam McKay, whose body of workincludes offbeat but exceptionally funny movies such as Anchorman andTalladega Nights. The Other Guys is not always perfect, but it benefitsfrom the perfectly mismatched chemistry of Ferrell and Wahlberg, andgets in some great laughs, which range from witty one-liners to sideachingly tickling WTF sight and sound gags. They're joined by a castthat includes Eva Mendes, Michael Keaton and Rob Riggle, who all get intheir own unique laughs. Even Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson intheir small roles are hilarious. While The Other Guys has some serious good points, such as the film'saction, which includes some of the year's very best stunt driving andfight choreography, it still has a tendency to feel flawed. Most aresimply minuscule and can be forgiven, but the most evident of them allis the film's quest to find consistent rhythm. The first act is a tadtoo rushed, and the second act is too slow, but the third act finallymanages a solid tone.I give The Other Guys *** out of ****

Unexpectedly good

Don't get me wrong, my wife and I are big fans of Will Farrell. Even when the movies themselves aren't great, he makes us laugh. I completely realize that there are people who don't like Farrell -- but this movie might -- MIGHT -- make those people laugh. Here Mark Wahlberg takes on the more outburst-y role while Farrell plays it a bit more reserved. Both roles give these guys moments to shine.I actually didn't expect this movie to be as good as it turned out -- it seemed a little below the radar leading up to its release. But it has all the stuff that makes a Farrell movie great -- repeatable lines, improvised stuff, and perhaps best of all his relationship with his wife and Wahlberg's response to the ludicrous nature of it.Anyway -- worth renting if you haven't seen it, and worth getting for those Farrell-friends that you have in your life!

Just what we need for a year end hilarious blockbuster !! A fine closure for next year comedy to come!!

This movie peak of altitude is simple: 4 big stars + 4xActions +4xHillarious!! The casts are great and perfect to their roles!! Youhave 2 action veterans- Samuel L.Jackson & The Rock; supposing threebut casting Mark Wahlberg as a grumpy cop suites him better!! Hedoesn't need to be literally funny just to fit into the movie but allthose dark and sadistic humors make his characters solid!! WillFarrel, amazingly funny as he's always deliver; could have blown yourorgans right out and you don't feel a pain!!! When you see The Rock andSam L.Jackson on screen you can fantasize them as Nick Fury and Agent23 compromise every intact actions with ease and Super-Heroic!! Andthen for the Lame cops, you see a stress and powerless Max Payne andHarold Crick failing every tasks. These guys did a descent job for youto laugh out loud on the sarcastic COOL cop, LAME cop routine!! As forthe supporting casts, it is nice to see Michael Keaton(the Batman fame)being adorably bossy around with Eva Mendas's sexy essence seducingMark Wahlberg and Steve Coogan committing lousy crimes. Not to mentionMr. Punisher(Ray Stevenson) messing with the cops with cocky Australiancharisma as well!! The plot is.....hmmmmm...rather typical and cheesywhen it comes to last 20 minutes of the movie. It is kinda Eye-sick tosee those slow mo actions with Lame cops dodge off all bullets and getbad guys busted. I wouldn't expect the ending to be much differ fromother movies of same genres anyway, so i got to avoid being fussy aboutthe ending. Since the movie entertains us well enough to keep us onscreen for 1 hr and 20 mins!!Lots of dark, sexual, awkward, stereotypical and action humors will tickles your guts mentally!!

The Other Guys

With a cast like this, there will be something for everyone. If you'relooking for a serious gripping plot with an end game, forget this.Indeed the producers did a great job with the trailer, as, it perhapshas the best bits of the film in it. That said, there are somegenuinely laugh out lines here to keep you amused. Will Ferrell has aknack of creating these over the top characters, sometimes to the pointof making you cringe. But I would let this film wash over you, thereare some great ideas here, but do leave you thinking "I wish they couldof expanded that idea."The Other Guys won't win any awards, but it wont offend either.

It was painful!!!

What was that,Will Ferrel supposed to be funny!!!! Well,I was lucky todownload the movie,so I didn't have to go to the cinema. The beginningwas quite OK,but after I was thinking a few times to stop and watchsomething else, but because of the great cast...... I tough it has to besomething........Well I was wrong,it was one of the movies when youwant see the end, when the cast is rolling, just fished now, please Iwanna see the end....... and forget it!!!Maybe it is funny for theAmerican public because they so dump.........So don't even think aboutto go and see ind the Cinema. Trustme.....................................!

BUDDY COP MOVIES RESURRECTED!

A while back I wrote about a movie that I thought would end buddy cop movies forever. Yes, COP OUT was truly that bad. And this is coming from a fan of both Kevin Smith and Bruce Willis. But the buddy cop movie has been born again with two unlikely leads in Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg. And they're bringing it to life as the anti-thesis of the buddy cop heroes by being THE OTHER GUYS.THE OTHER GUYS starts out like every other buddy cop film made in the past with two mega heroes in the forms of P.K. Highsmith (Samuel Jackson) and Christopher Danson (Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson) chasing a car load of criminals. Suffice to say that they costs the city millions, do a ton of damage to vehicles and eventually blow up the front of one of the Trump Towers all in an attempt to arrest this carload for some minor offense. They're declared heroes and return to the precinct to let everyone know that they're leaving the paperwork for the rest of them to fill out...for the other guys.Allen Gamble (Ferrell) is fine with this. He's there to back up the page grabbing hero's crumbs and take care of the dirty work they leave behind. But his partner Terry Hoitz (Wahlberg) isn't as pleased. He wants to take on the bad guys on the street. He was on the rise at one time, heading for the limelight when he accidentally shot...well I won't say because that ends up being on truly funny joke.Gamble and Hoitz are left behind to do paperwork and in a way not be much in the line of detectives; even if that's the area they're assigned to. That all changed when Highsmith and Danson jump off a building while trying to catch a group of crooks who used a zip line. Again, what happens is hilarious and I don't want to spoil it but it results in the heroes deaths. Now the city needs a new team of heroes and Hoitz wants it to be a part of that. But he can't stand his partner. Gamble has a lead on Sir David Ershon (Steve Coogan), a businessman who has building construction going on but hasn't filed for permits for scaffolding. Neither of them realizes that in trying to serve the arrest warrant for this minor offense the two of them will find themselves taking on a top level criminal. Along the way they face opposition from their captain (Michael Keaton), the D.A. and various other law enforcement organizations. They even find their case turned over to the S.E.C. where their lead agent is Ershon's lawyer. Taken off the case and demoted to lower positions, the only way to get the bad guy is if they do it on their own terms. So much for the bare basics of the movie. Surrounding this plotline are all sorts of jokes that are some of the funniest I've seen in some time. Enough so that on occasion you find yourself using the pause button until you stop laughing or to back up and witness what made you laugh all over again. One running joke is that every hot woman that the duo comes across wants to jump Ferrell's bones. The first glimpse of this is when he takes Wahlberg home to meet "the old ball and chain". His wife is played by Eva Mendes, looking quite attractive and doing everything she can to please him while he tells Wahlberg how plain she is. All Whalberg can do is keep asking, "No really, who is she?" He can't believe this is Ferrell's wife. And the same holds true for every attractive woman they meet who tries to get Ferrell's number.Wahlberg's character is the stock shoot first and ask questions later kind of guy. In his mind every criminal ties into some drug deal. Ferrell is the more cerebral one who looks for deeper crimes which seem to stare him in the face and he still doesn't get. They make the perfect pair, combining to make a winning team. Or at least you would think they would. Instead they more bumble into the crime being committed and are fortunate to simply survive. There are all sorts of comedy at play here. The verbal jokes are funny, the physical humor is hilarious and the stabs at the standard buddy cop films are spot on. I've never been a huge fan of Ferrell feeling that he got too caught up in playing the seemingly same character over and over again. But this is one time that he shines in a role meant for him. And Whalberg with his demands to be let lose to fly like a peacock and constant referencing to things he learned as a child to use to bully the kid down the block is funny in his own way.I wasn't sure I would like this movie. I was afraid that it was going to turn out like most movies with a decent trailer where the best scenes were offered there with tons of filler surrounding them. That doesn't turn out to be true. Sure those scenes are funny, but the entire film has funny scenes from beginning to end. This movie is not just a movie to watch a single time but to add to your collection. Its one that I know I'll end up watching more than once.

Not Good. Not Good At All.

I didn't have high hopes for this Will Farrell (Megamind, Everything Must Go) movie. The trailer looked horrible and I figured this would be a typical Farrell movie. At this point in his career if you've seen one Will Farrell comedy, you've seen them all.I do like his work in more serious/drama films. The Other Guys are Farrell and Mark Wahlberg (The Fighter, Invincible); two detectives who are on the bottom rung of the police force. Farrell is a money man and Wahlberg shot Derek Jeter during a baseball game. They're the joke. But they get their chance to be heroes after some crazy circumstances. (I wasn't sure what to think after The Rock and Samuel L. Jackson plummeted to their death)I will say that Farrell knows how to do oddball comedy. Some of the things that come out of his mouth are genius in their timing and totally from left field. Most of the time, though, I wasn't laughing. The language is over-the-top but more importantly, the movie is just bad. Or maybe stupid is a better word to describe it.I'm beginning to wonder if this guy is trying to make movies that are only funny after you've been awake for 12 hours straight. As funny as he is, Will Farrell made a bad movie here.

29 April 2012

Not that great!

I was looking forward to this movie. It sounded pretty good. But for an action comedy, there is little action and most of the comedy just falls flat. Will Farrell was just not funny in this one. Mark Wahlberg is actually kinda funny in this. Don't waste your time or money on this one.

I would have rather watched the movie with Samuel L. Jackson & The Rock, but this had funny moments

nonstop laughs

I just loved this film; everyone in my house did from age 9 to 50! It was certainly entertaining but it also made you stop and think. There are a lot of messages the viewer should take away from this movie.

25 April 2012

I should have rented "The Other Movie!"

I put one star, only because Amazon will not let you put zero. This was a terrible movie. The three or four funny moments in no way made up for the fact that this movie flat out sucked. The plot was non-existant, which I could overlook if the movie is one funny scence after another, this was not. I am so glad that I waited to get it from Redbox, and didn't waste $20 at the movie theater. Badly timed humor litters this movie. It is like a bad SNL sketch that just keeps going and going. Do not rent / watch this movie, you will be disapointed. If you want to see a good Will Ferrell movie, watch Step-Brothers (that is a laught a minute movie from start to finish). If you want a good Mark Wahlberg flick, then chose The Fighter, or The Departed.

Great Movie

This is by far the best comedy of the summer! I also like it because of the variety of comedy in it. Great movie

Here are the Goodies

This review is from: The Other Guys (The Unrated Other Edition) [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) Crisp clean picture, amazingly funny, laughed throughout the movie. Plenty of extras, gag real, line-o-rama, creative process, insights into the true persona of some actors. great movie, great purchase, awesome price! ($12 new in sealed box) Fun to watch Wahlberg cut his teeth in comedy. fun to see and hear will and the director riff lines during scene shooting. Liked the theatrical version, really liked the uncut version.

HI-larious Movie!! One of the funniest I've seen, by far :)

HI-larious Movie!! One of the funniest I've seen, by far :) Great duo; hope to see them together in future films...Even Michael Keaton was a star!!

Everything you expect it to be.

I saw an advanced screening of this movie last night, so maybe some ofthe things seen in the movie will not make it into the final cut, butanyway. As to not reveal any spoilers, you all have seen the trailer and knowthe story. I'll tell you how it actually panned out as a film."The Other Guys" was surprisingly well in the beginning. Will Ferrellis not typecast as some obnoxious leading man but plays well as ado-nothing cop. Mark Wahlberg is over the top with his performance, which is what more than likely was expected of him in this type of filmanyway. Eva Mendes does really well in this movie and brings in more ofthe laughs than the movie's leading men.The film starts relatively funny, with banter by Ferrell and Wahlbergthat make the movie seem not as predictable as first thought. As thestory progresses, the comedy becomes stale. It's as if they had a goodconcept for a parody of cop action films, but they didn't know how tofinish it properly, and it becomes the thing it is parodying. The plotnear the ending can confuse many if not paying attention, and for thismovie you would think you wouldn't need that much of an attention spanto understand it.Bottom line, it promises something new, but ends up being the same ol'buddy cop comedy that we saw 5 months ago when "Cop Out" came out. Theidea was there, but they couldn't continue with something fresh andhumorous.Wait till this movie is out on DVD, or dollar theater. Don't spend 10dollars unless you have a date that you REALLY want to spend the nightwith. It's an okay movie.(On a side note, if anyone cares to know, Jon Brion scored this movie, which you can barely tell because it sounds like the soundtrack to anyother action film. See if maybe you can point out some Brion-isms inthe music.)

21 April 2012

HILARIOUS!!!

The Other Guys is one of my favorite comedy films ever made! The humor is A+, the script is great, and there's also some great action/action set pieces! Will Ferrell is fantastic, Mark Wahlberg is awesome, and all the rest of the amazing all-star cast that includes Michael Keaton, The Rock, Samuel L. Jackson and Eva Mendes rocks. I nearly die laughing every time I watch this top-notch movie! The Other Guys is hilarious and I definitely recommend it to anyone!!! Check it out.5 out of 5
