A mini-Michael Mann effort populated by one-dimensional clichés.

I really don't know how I am going to make it to ten lines to make surethis review features. This movie is just breathtakingly awful,badly-made and incredibly boring despite all the action scenes andfirepower. It reminded me during the opening scenes of The Town (maskedbank robbers, feisty woman bank employee, well-executed and plannedescape), but even thought I gave The Town a 4, this just doesn'tregister on the scale. The Town suffered from lack of any reason for empathy with any of thecharacters but at least it had a good-looking woman among the cast,Rebecca Hall. There is no tension, there is no classic three-act story line, we don'tcare about this bunch of violent, greedy crooks, and we care even lesswhen yet another bunch of even more violent and greedier crooks comealong later.Have as many car chases, shoot-outs as you like, you won't make a goodmovie.Sad to see the grown-up Matt Dillon. He plays a cop here, but he looksmore like a thug and criminal than the real ones.Well, I got to more than ten lines.Worst film I think I have seen, ever.

Takers looked like a pretty cliche thriller just from its movie posters and trailers. Hip hop artists T.I. and Chris Brown have supporting roles in the film while African American actors Idris Elba (The Losers, RocknRolla) and Michael Ealy (Seven Pounds, 2 Fast 2 Furious) are featured, as well. These four actors are the ones you see the most of in the film and if you haven't really followed their acting career or listen to hip hop at all, then you probably won't have much interest. Paul Walker, Hayden Christensen, Matt Dillon, and Jay Hernandez round out the rest of the main cast. There was a rather large clamoring amongst fans and moviegoers of the horrid acting of Hayden Christensen while the Star Wars prequels were in theaters. If you haven't seen him in anything since then, then just know he hasn't gotten much better. While Paul Walker has certainly had his moments (mainly Pleasantville and Joy Ride), he doesn't really have much room to talk either. The biggest struggle Takers faces is that it feels like a movie you've already seen. Remember all those films revolving around bank heists? Dog Day Afternoon, Heat, Point Break, The Dark Knight, The Italian Job, the list goes on and on. Every one of those films managed to bring something different to the table or at least featured something somewhat different or appealing to make it identifiable when presented in a line up of bank heist films. Takers is so similar to last year's Armored that it feels almost pointless to have taken place in the first place. Both films contain a heist involving armored cars, a mostly African-American cast, and even though Matt Dillon seems to have switched roles in comparison to the two films, it doesn't help that he's featured in both. That along with Idris Elba and Zoe Saldana being in the film almost seemed like Takers was actually a cheap combination of The Losers and Armored, which is probably a pretty decent way to describe the film. Do moviegoers like seeing the same movie over and over again because it sure seems that way. The camera work felt incredibly sloppy, as well. In the first 20 or so minutes of the film, I felt more nauseous than I did at any point of Cloverfield. The way the camera spun around so quickly and so often combined with the way shots kept zooming in and out just didn't make the film feel like it was professionally shot. Certain scenes in the film seemed like they were too close while at other times the camera would zoom out slightly that came off like an error of judgement while the cameras just continued to roll. All in all, the camera work just felt very erratic and unfocused. This is usually the part in my review where I try to say something positive or make a compliment sandwich kind of deal, but there really isn't much to work with. Hayden Christensen's fight scene, the chase involving Chris Brown, and the gun fight with the Russians are probably the highlights. The writing wasn't nearly as bad as it could have been either although it probably helps that there were four different writers credited on the film. Takers is a stale crime thriller that consists of both an A.D.D. style of film choreography and a cast aimed at a specific demographic that will likely hurt the film more than benefit it. The obvious little twist the film throws at you sticks out like a sore thumb and the way the film ends will probably leave a lot to be desired. Whether you look at Takers as an action packed crime thriller or an entertaining experience, Takers comes up short and takes last place.

TAKERS is a movie about those who take - in this case organized thieveswhose take no prisoners reputation stumbles on vengeance form withinand a cop who takes on the impossible bunch for his own reasons. It isa group written piece (and that shows...), directed by John Leussenhopwho specializes in these kinds of noisy thrillers, and packs a cast ofwell- known actors who with a few exceptions have little characterdevelopment written for them, making them relay on their screenpresence to create credible images. The practiced groups of bank robbers who are living the good life fromprevious crimes include Idris Elba, Hayden Christensen, Paul Walker,Chris Brown, and Michael Ealy. A previous member of the gang has justbeen released from prison - Ghost (Tip T.I. Harris) - who approachesthe old gang with a new challenge worth millions and despite some badomens the gang prepares to make the heist to end all heists: a majorproblem is that Ghost is double dealing with a group of Russians andthat pits two crime syndicates against each other. Some subplots arepresent: Idris Elba's sister played by Marianne Jean-Baptiste isrecently out of drug rehab and puts a damper on plans; Ghost's oldgirlfriend played by Zoe Saldana is now Michael Ealy's sweetheart andthat churns up problems form the vengeful Ghost; the two cops who havebeen partners - Matt Dillon and Jay Hernandez - face a surprise inHernandez' past that leaves Matt Dillon alone to fight the heist. The problem with this film is not so much the fact that there isnothing new here - the cast makes it well-worth watching - but that thecinematography keeps the lighting level so dark that it is difficult tofollow the action except for the expected fire explosions thataccompany it. It is a technical problem that could have been fixed -and that may have created a better response at the box office, or maybeit is a law of the DVD. Grady Harp

Wall-to-wall music, glossy handheld camerawork and frantic editing all conspire to try and make this seem a lot more exciting than the relentlessly unimaginitive script deserves.

A respectable but watered-down heist movie.

Takers is probably the most generic shooter film I've ever seen with an uninteresting storyline making it significantly worse. What makes it uninteresting is the fact that I was able to predict the pacing, the writing, and how everything would fall into place. Why was I able to predict it so easily, you might be asking yourself? Because I've seen the same kind of crap a thousand times ever since the mid 80's. That's right- for the last 25 years I've had to endure similar predictable movie writing, and just when I thought the nightmare was finally starting to end due to the formula being overexposed to the point of utter failure and boredom, here enters Takers. Shooting scenes that do absolutely nothing to excite me whatsoever thanks to a lackluster storyline, and detective/police officer characters that don't stand out from the several others that I've had to put up with over the years starring in other identically-written movies. There's nothing original or encouraging about this movie, and that's a shame. The only fairly interesting moment comes near the end when, without revealing what happens, a huge explosion occurs. From there, the quality improves enough for me to give the film a rating of 2 out of 5 (in addition to a satisfying conclusion with a moment of tear-jerking beauty) but because I've seen this exact type of action several times already and therefore am completely exhausted, I don't feel the need to recommend such bland writing to anyone else.

Well since I didn't go into this movie with any high expectation's I wasn't let down by the aspect's of this movie. I'm not going to waste anytime so let's break it down. Firstly the movies pace starts of slow and choppy. The reason it is this way is because their were to many stars who had to get their shine which cause the writer to create separate sub plot's. There simply were to many subplots. Throw on top of that the wasted time that the director felt necessary to have 5 minute scenes with the guys arriving at places with Expensive cars and suits( I guess that was a ploy to appeal to the female movie goers). Then we have TI, who tries to use snazzy comical lines to be the comic relief of the movie. I wasn't as amused as the ladies that were at this movie seemed to be( Everything that TI said was funny and amazing to them...SMH). I guess you would have to be a die-hard TI fan to enjoy his acting in the Movie. Other than him the acting seemed to be pretty good, perhaps with a better storyline it could have been better. Chris Brown chase scene was the best of the movie, you'll enjoy it. That leads me to my next problem, the Cinematography. Though the Chase scenes and other action scenes were pretty good, they were kept from being great because of the bad Cinematography. The camera during the action scenes were to choppy and busy which made it hard to follow. The last scene of the movie was puzzling(not in a good way) and the last "showdown" was actually kinda boring and predictable, but hey maybe that's just me. So I think I have said enough, If you want to go see the movie go and if you don't you won't be missing anything. I'm out~Mike "The Movie Critic"~

I have wanted to see this movie since the first trailer I saw lastyear. I am a big fan of heist/action movies. Seeing Idris Elba andMichael Ealy and Paul Walker in the trailer, I knew I would at leastget my quotient of eye candy. After seeing some of the reviews for thismovie, I had very low expectations.Takers turned out to be a decent heist movie. They didn't do anythingthat was all that original. It was pretty predictable. It was justmindless entertainment that I enjoyed watching. I thought there wassome good action sequences...I wish there were more of them. There wasmore melodrama than I was expecting, but I think it helped give themovie an ounce of depth. Don't expect Oscar worthy material or bigunexpected plot turns and I think you will end up enjoying it.

This review is from: Takers [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) Everything was okay the only thing that was wrong with my movie is that it didnt come with the booklet. I thought a new movie would come with that??

(Synopsis) A group of five exceptional bank robbers have been able tosuccessfully rob several banks with such perfect execution that thepolice do not have a single clue to capture them. These criminals treateach robbery as a business plan that works. First, they plan each jobwith clockwork precision and are extremely careful in not leaving anyevidence behind. Second, they fence the money to get it clean. Third, they all lay low for one year between jobs to not bring any attentionto themselves. They decide to pull off one last heist that will betheir biggest score, by taking out an armored-car. Their meticulousplanning of robbing banks is thrown out the window, because of theshort time frame to do the job, and the large amount of cash they willsplit. This may be the break the police have been waiting for, whenthis band of thieves finally makes a mistake.(My Comment) The bank robbers were Hayden Christensen, Michael Ealy,Idris Elba, Paul Walker, and singer Chris Brown. The police were MattDillon and Jay Hermandez. As you can see, there are some good actorsplaying the main parts in this movie. That being said, the script isthe biggest problem with this movie. All of the actors did a fine jobof acting, but most of the writing was a waste. The armored-car robberywas just so unrealistic and stupid. You would think that you would havesomeone to root for in the movie, but you would be wrong, because Ididn't care what happened to any of the characters. There were somegood chase scenes during the movie, but that was about all that Iliked. The stunt work was amazing, and the pace was fast. However, thisis one movie that you can wait for the DVD. A slick thriller comprised of equal parts pretty actors, urban crime drama clichés, and cheesy lines... The Italian Heat Job for Dummies.

Takers was way better than I thought it would be. Expected it to be heavy on stars and light on substance but it was far from that. Funny how users give it an average A grade and "critics" give it a low-C??? Guess they couldnt handle not having Brad, Cruise, Pacino, Clooney or one of their other favorite sons not being the centerpiece. LOL! Get used to it. Its time for a new generation of talent. TI stole the show! For those critics who say he couldnt act, they must dont understand the realism his character brought to the movie. And, thank God for a non-traditional ending. Perfect ending.

A gang of clever thief's(Idris Elba, Michael Ealy, Chris Brown, PaulWalker, and Hayden Christensen) who are good at staying a step ahead ofthe law, while living the good life, even though some have there ownpersonal problems. But a former teammate(TI) who got caught, and is nowjust now getting released from prison, comes to them for a new heist, but is he part of the team or what? And two cops(Matt Dillon and JayHernandez) start there own investigation, and might close in on them.Action scenes are good, but the movie suffers from lack of characterdevelopment, performances of Elba and Dillon are effective buteverybody else is thrown in and out. And we are left confused on who toroute for. See it for the action.

Amidst the gangsta posing and some overly operatic shootouts, [Dillon] helps give Takers some crucial currency.

A lot of big names. The movie was not what it should have been. Although action packed with a good story line. The number of good actors should have brought a lot more to the movie!

This film is pretty bad. I cant think of a single thing good about thisfilm and I love movies. Lets start with the cast, matt dillon has beengreat recently but his character has no back story, hes a determinedcop with no obvious motivation. On the evil side of the plot none ofthe actors have enough time on screen to shine as individuals. Paulwalker and idris elba can carry a film but mixed in with musiciansdoing cameos they completely lose their shine. The film moves quicklyoffering no back story to any character and the most shallow ofmotivations for most of them, so quickly that you cant follow ormaintain interest in the plot. The heist parts of the plot are liftedfrom numerous other films, die hard, Italian job 2002 remake etc. Itshard to believe they managed to produce not much from so muchpotential. The icing on the cake is idris elba not being able to managean English accent despite being from London.

No doubt this movie is FIRE! I loved Takers. I loved the cast. Each and every one of them. You think itâs going to be your typical heist film but it was so much more going on. It was exciting. Action packed. Entertaining. Sexy. On the edge of your seat, running, racing, jumping, diving with the characters. My adrenaline is still pumping after being home all of five minutes. I want to see it again! Will see it again. Chris Brown did the damn thing in this movie. Team Breezy was all up in the theatre! LOL. He is such a great artist. Idris Elba, sexy as ever. Always love him. Native accent sexy as ever. Paul Walker and Hayden Christensen, oh my goodness...sexy! What! Besides the sexiness, yes, the movie was great. It was the best action packed movie Iâve seen this year. Do yourself a favor, go see this movie and don't forget the popcorn. Oh, and have your man ready when you get home because all this sexiness will have you ready to be TAKEN!

I just finished watching Takers and it sucks. It's not intelligent or cool; it's predictable and lame. Characters are flat and feel like paper cut-outs. I would recommend The Town instead.
